My point of contention is that if there is anything of value that can be found here, it's ours by right of conquest. The gith are more than welcome to stay as guests and honored allies.

This is the kind of thing best made clear from the start to avoid future problems.
We could always loot it, then lease some/all of the land to them similar to how irl certain military bases, crucial ports, and embassies in general are set up. Being the source of the a new heartland for the Gith shouldn't be underestimated; a little generosity now could earn us a strong planar power as a an ally later.

I'd be perfectly fine with giving the gith access, or leasing a portion of the land. That's extra firepower to defend against any invaders.

@Duesal, good enough?
[X] Everything you know, they have been honorable allies so far and you see no reason why that would change
-[X] If they prove interested in this, we are offering joint research into the phenomena. Gith having access to a stable piece of reality in Limbo, or even just a more efficient method of stabilizing it, would mean more of their forces free to fight our common enemy.
-[X] Preliminarily, we're claiming the whole place for ourselves - in the interest of seeing the Petitioner souls on it safe and not dropped into the Limbo - but we'll be open to negotiation once the exact principles of the locale's workings are established, and we are sure it won't disappear from under everyone once Renly is gone or they all are made aware of their reality.
--[X] Make sure that Gith don't see this as us being overly greedy - we see them as good allies and partners and would be completely open to negotiating them making use of the wast territory, if that's what they wish, once we are done ensuring the overall safety.
-[X] By the way, do they want any more battle beasts, having had the first batch tried? We can make those in spades :V
I'm straining real hard to think up reasons for grabbing/claiming this as ours from the get-go, without coming off as unreasonably greedy, nor somehow offending Gith, one of very few large extraplanar groups in the setting who kinda fall under the definition of "the Good guys".

It's not greedy, we have a legitimate claim to this place. And we're happy to share it, but at the end of the day it is ours.

Anyway, thank you for making that distinction.

The only potential complication I see from this is if there is some sort of one-of-a-kind artifact being used to stabilize this region of Limbo, or the effect otherwise not being possible to replicate, and the Gith insist on exclusive access to it. But even then, the Gith can hardly fight us for it, as that would risk their current homes. If the worst happens, it will come down to how well we can navigate the politics of the situation. Keeping a potential ally out of the loop out of fears of stumbling over issues with diplomacy and research is silly when that is literally our primary foreign relations strategy.

@egoo, the reason we are not militarily claiming that place right now is that doing so might destroy it. Don't mistake being careful for being unable to do it.

Overall, there is some immense military value in having an off-plane holding in the metaphysical boondocks, so I'm very firm on claiming the place for us. That being said, the place is huge and I'm perfectly fine with letting the Gith settle most of it under some conditions and with a firm agreement.

Exactly. This is pretty huge for us. This is the kind of base we can use to strike at Deep Ones in the ruins of Nirvana, or organizing raids against Efreeti, etc.

So, uh, do we send off the remaining few people who are with us to halp the other Fey-hunting group, or is this finally 'too much dakka'..? :V

This here is kinda a state-toppling firepower. I'm more afraid we'd get something on top of the Court's remains with how much forces there are moving around :o

Nobody expects an attack from Limbo. ;)

Lol considering our info-sec history I'm expecting our enemies to get wind of this soon enough. However, in line with Visery's uh anything, whether or not they can properly take advantage of this info is another thing entirely. See Tarly seeing the drakenbeasts out in the open with no attempts to hide whatever the fuck they do and realizing with all his knowledge he's fucked. Like yeah I'm sure the Efreeti have a bit more resources than a Westerosi lord, but even if they do find this place, do they have the resources to go Limbo hunting with the Shaitan and Genies are knocking on their front door?

The Myrkdraki and mind dragon draw straws to choose which among them will stay to watch this strange realm, they all cheat so creatively you have to officiate the process.
I meant to point this out earlier, but forgot. Nothing important, just thought it was funny and a neat way to add a bit of personality to our homegrown Dragons.

If we manage to stabilize this place and keep it for ourselves we can definitely build another super fortress here to fend off any major incursion.

God no send more people Indigo Mask might be the only one confirmed to join the Others but he might not be the only one joining them. And even if he stays being the only recruit that doesn't mean the rest of the Indigo Court wouldn't be happy to slaughter our minions. You don't need to be aligned with Winter to hate us. :V

The Lost Lands are kinda reminding me of Outland from Warcraft, large masses of land floating around in basically magically deadly space.

I'd rather not heavily invest in static defenses due to the utility / cost being incredibly low.

The main goal should be to put infrastructure in place that supports and maintains a mobile strike force that can be used for offensive and defensive deployments.

Morally questionable massive brainwashing, and letting them die to Limbo predators just to "play the role" still remain highly objectionable offenses then, even if they did technically save most* of the Petitioners from dying to Warp Limbo predators.
I mean, is that so different from other afterlifes?

They are all created by something that draws petitioners there for its own purposes. All those afterlifes follow the rules of their creating god.
I don't think one should apply the same perspective we have on living people on these ones.

Any afterlife that has monsters randomly creeping in and eating the souls in it because whoever made it doesn't give a damn is a bad afterlife, and the one responsible deserves to be eaten by Yss.

You are correct in that they are not special for being Fae doing it for Fae reasons, we'd also kill a God who did this.

Most if not all afterlives have monsters creeping in and trying to eat the souls. There's an entire ecosystem of monsters dining on souls and an entire economy around people trading them.

This "afterlife" is intentionally inviting in the monsters though and even generates more of its own so that Renly can get up to some heroics.

So, the petitioners are somewhere between "essential furniture" since they are needed to set the scene, "monster bait" since they are what draws the local predators for Renly to kill, and "ritual fuel" since they are what keeps this "crucible" lit.

And always remember: this is what they wanted for the Reach, if not all of Westeros. Lovable scamps. Really regretting that we murdered them all.

It depends, really. Trying to protect incoming Petitioners, but too weak or with too many enemies to do it successfully?

1) Why are you too weak? Maybe we can help.
2) Why do you have so many enemies, I mean ones dedicated to coming after you specifically? Real important.
3) Why haven't you made any allies?
3.1) So you can't get along with anyone. That sounds like a real pickle. Maybe you should change?
4) So you have a lot of enemies, not a lot of power, and not too many friends, but nothing is really getting in the way of fixing all of that, you're just really fucking unlucky? I think we can do business.
If no, then go to -->

5) You've got power to spare, you've got allies enough or at least chaff/meatshields in-between you and whoever else, and no real doctrinal troubles preventing you from fixing all of that if you just chose to do so, and still act callous enough with your Petitioners that they're just eaten by Far Spawn horrors and enslaved by raiding parties?

Into the blender you go.

Yeah, but I mean there's a difference between a couple heavenly hosts between you and the monsters, and one rascally knight errant and his three lovers / four archetypical composite characters hunting them down after they've already slaughtered your entire village.

And always remember: this is what they wanted for the Reach, if not all of Westeros. Lovable scamps. Really regretting that we murdered them all.
Fey: You killed all of our friends, slaughtered them, and not just the men, but the women and children too! You destroyed our way of life! AND YOU'RE NOT EVEN SORRY?!
