Wow. RIP Robb. You're not coming back from that.

Hopefully by the time we see you again we figure out how to cleanse Void taint out of a damned soul so we can resurrect you.

@Goldfish Do we have a containment method we can use on the body? Being able to reverse whatever they do to people like Robb or Rina reliably doesn't sound like bad research.
I'd like to speak up against this, on the basis of "Potentially/likely dead-end RAs are bad, more now than ever, now that we don't use Scholarum Branches for sensitive RAs, which most of them are" and "We have objectively better RAs to throw at the Void, from advancing Rina's class ability, to taking what Djinn have so far and developing on that".

I do not think this is worth investigating.
Frankly, this is as niche a case as it gets, too.

We could rig up something to keep the Soulless Robb contained and hidden, though doing so while also making him available for research would be far more difficult and dangerous.

DP also said that avenue of research would be something that would take months and could end up being a dead end. I don't think the risk and time investment makes the gamble worthwhile.

I feel like we don't know nearly as much as we should about Winter, the Void or the Wall and Brandon's other projects.

We need to study Keeps and the Wall and start capturing viable research specimens.

And:

We need a way to do this regardless. Working on a gribbly strong enough to give us info about the Void/Winter is going to require ready access to it while imprisoned, so we need to figure out how to make that safer anyway.

I'm also firmly opposed to trying to contain a conduit of the Void for months on end. We couldn't even store the Crown of Flowers safely and the consequences of a containment breach for a Void tainted being would be much, much worse.

Yeah, I'm all for burning the body now that I know there's not much we can do and we do not, at present, have good enough containment methods.

But I am for developing those containment methods. We are going to need them if we really want to figure out how to win against them.

Best bet would be to establish a small research base in the outskirts of Heaven's Shore then. Somewhere where Void influence is strong enough to allow some research, but still low enough that we don't run into the hyper-unpleasant things existing outside of the settlement.

We have anti-god tier divination wards, so it's not like it would be a terrible idea, so long as we're not too obvious about our activities.

Wow, what an update.
I love how completely casual we were about telling Ned that we knew all along, too :D
Will we see the conversation between Daenerys and Jon, DP?

It's a bit vexing that every time someone criticizes Lyanna (or the Starks in general) it is taken, at least by some, as "[Stark] is the antichrist!"
Sorry!
I think we're missing each others points. I didn't mean to say that about you, and I think I might have misunderstood your previous posts anyway.
It's not like I like the Starks, anyway. Hey, the search function will even return old posts of mine where I complain about the focus on them in this quest despite their utter irrelevance!

And to be entirely honest, the post of mine that you quoted was mostly an excuse to credit Lyanna with saving the human race by starting the Usurpation ;)

Secondly, I see that Qyburn has ascended, I look forward to getting my ass kicked by him in the next Bloodborne game.
This is the best shitpost in the thread this month, and I love it. Funny, unexpected, and perfectly fitting!

Containment for research purposes rather than merely as a future sacrifice would involve a custom Greater Demiplane, one preferably linked to a place we wouldn't miss too much, such as Hellven, with the standard Forbiddance wards, along with things like Hallow, Celestial Brilliance, and a Wildfire-based self-destruct mechanism. We would coat the interior in lead, plaster the whole thing with the godblocking anti-Divination wards, add in Source Severance and Spellbane, and tailor the Demiplane itself to inhibit the types of magic used by the research subject, such as Cold, Necromancy, etc.

I would also recommend that all research be done from off-site using remotely operated Constructs or Golems.

EDIT: For added safety, the entire area would be filled with a Permanent Maximized Searing Cleaning Conflagration spell cast by Viserys at a boosted 30th caster level. Even if the subject did manage to escape from its tiny little containment vessel, it would immediately be incinerated by 180 points per round of Searing Fire damage.

  • [X] They already have the context to what the Void and Winter are, lay out the facts:
-[X] You cannot bring Robb back, no one can - his soul is with the Enemy, and warded beyond even deific divination.
-[X] The body needs to be destroyed as soon as possible, it cannot be used to restore Robb, but the Enemy can and will raise it as a puppet instead.
[X] Begin preparations to assault the Lands of Always Winter to mess with the schedule!

We are kinda behind the game when it comes to void research, really.

A pity that most of our stuff is currently tied to god-making

We've held down a successful business in the CoB for months, so I'm seeing no reason why we couldn't hold down a few shacks in Heavens Shore while people experiment with the background radiation in the warded cellars. It's not as if we need something rare. Low-level Void influence is literally everywhere.

Sorry!

I didn't so much feel accused by you then that I wanted to point out that any criticism of the Starks tends to get blown out of proportion.

...so, Maelor's going on another loooong trip, then?
:V

Viserys: "I want those Void-asses, apprentice! Chop-chop!"
Maelor:

@DragonParadox can Jon Snow be used to track down Robb's soul if the old gods get enough sacrifices? He's blood related, made an oath to stay by Robb's side, and he's some sort of necromancer? It just seems like Jon was the closest to Robb out of everyone and even his class brings him closer to this sort of magic.

Robbs own body is the strongest connection we can possibly have and even that isn't enough.

Odds are we're seeing Robb again with his soul twisted into a Winter Champion or something. Even being Void-tainted, the Others are still the Winter Court. They can't resist the narrative deliciousness.

We need to make sure we've figured out how to contain Void-tainted creatures fully by then, and how to cleanse them of the filth. But until then we're stuck, there's nothing to do beyond leave the Starks to their grief and figure out how to activate Winterfell's wards so this doesn't happen again.

And also openly have more guardians so the rest of the Starks don't drop like flies.

@egoo, we should probably check on the crypts with Ned. We need to figure out what the Voidspawn was going for with Robb's corpse in tow.

It's not that easy sorry. I mean Jon is going to want to do something, but wanting and being able to are not the same thing even in magic. There are limits and the way to overcome those limits is to grow in power and understanding, not just willing them so.

Our minions just keep getting themselves Nemesis after Nemesis.
Valaena has that one mage-Queen she under-killed on a trip to summer islands;
Jon now has Void!Robb to try and Hero Complex the shit out of;
Jeyne has Illithids, period...

We handled Maelor's dad though, and Azema's mom...
Hm.

We need to get our minions more proper personal villains to exert themselves agaisnt.
:V

Vee and Rina already checking everything, though.

Okay Jon you have a dead brother(cousin), are the joining of two magical bloodlines, a secret prince in line to the Iron Throne(and now the Imperium technically) and are an Azor Ahai candidate. Do you want to save the heroic backstories for the rest of the protagonists?

All joking aside we are going to throw Jon into training hell now correct? We are legally allowed to do that now?

Oh well. I still have hope that the void will send Robb back out as an undead monstrosity as soon as possible so that Viserys can give him the Rina treatment and gain another Winter Fey

It would also give the Starks hope that one day they can get Robb back as well as a goal to work towards.
