Does anyone have a plan to depossess our best doggo dragon?
I don't like the idea of an enemy having a possible backdoor into Viserys through Balerion.

Still, the DC was a minimum of 27. Probably higher.

It's a big bad possession effect. Thus a big bad gribbly.
Even without any Abjuration effects, Balerion should have Will save bonus of +24. The bonus he gets from his Wisdom booster is not an Abjuration effect.

Rolling a 4 should have been enough for Balerion to resist the effect.

...we don't know the DC, though?

Edit: Basically just means the DC was a minimum of 29 instead. And again, probably higher.

The demon still got and action as the gull was being eaten, enough to cast a dispel, it only needed the wisdom buff down for the round Balerion made the save unlike the other protections.

Does it have the action economy to cast a dispel and then use an item and then possess a dragon while trapped inside of a dragon's gullet? Doesn't that require actual mechanical actions to take action resisting against being swallowed whole?

Brooooooooooo just let it happppeeennnnn.

This is the first moment of genuine tension since Richard had to fight a god just let us enjoy the thrill!

@DragonParadox A swallowed creature is considered to be Grappled. So I was right.

If a creature with this special attack begins its turn with an opponent held in its mouth (see Improved Grab), it can attempt a new grapple check (as though attempting to pin the opponent). If it succeeds, it swallows its prey, and the opponent takes bite damage. Unless otherwise noted, the opponent can be up to one size category smaller than the swallowing creature. Being swallowed has various consequences, depending on the creature doing the swallowing. A swallowed creature is considered to be grappled, while the creature that did the swallowing is not. A swallowed creature can try to cut its way free with any light slashing or piercing weapon (the amount of cutting damage required to get free is noted in the creature description), or it can just try to escape the grapple. The Armor Class of the interior of a creature that swallows whole is normally 10 + 1/2 its natural armor bonus, with no modifiers for size or Dexterity. If the swallowed creature escapes the grapple, success puts it back in the attacker's mouth, where it may be bitten or swallowed again.

Question, since this guy bypassed Balerion's protection could Quburn flip the script and possess the dude doing the possessing or at least disrupt his control somehow?

I mean he just burst the protections open right? Does he have time to bring them back up or is Balerion's head wide open at the moment?

What if the possessor were ethereal and his current "mount" the seagull dying did not cost him any actions?

There are 16 Vigilant Briars and 5 Watchmoles outside the Snare on guard duty. They're all Telepathic and capable of Greater Teleportation, and can use 20th caster level Quickened Dimensional Anchor as a SLA.

Balerion's Touch AC is only 8, and that's with Abjuration bonuses. It's 5 or less without.

Why don't we have 10 or 12 of them all Teleport into range of Balerion and hit him with a Quickened Dimensional Anchor? That will keep the Demon from Teleporting him away, then we can worry about subduing him.

Restrain. Mostly because killing Balerion would almost take more effort than trying to extract the fiend.

Better than nothing, and we should do it on top of anything else we intend. if he can get away despite being targeted by 21 Dimensional Anchors, well,

Viserys: *shrug* "Guess I'll die."

Honestly though, you got to respect someone who looks at our plans and goes "you know what, to hell with it, I'm going to try and possess the dragon the size of a whale covered in enough protective magical protections and amulets that's doing so is the equivalent of banging my bare naked head on a brick wall to make a window instead of dealing with that clusterfuck."

[X] Plan Subduing The Big Lizard
-[X] Have all Vigilant Briars and Watchmoles who are in range cast their Quickened Dimensional Anchor SLA on Balerion. If none are in range, at least 5 but no more then 10 user their Greater Teleport SLA to get into range. Do not under any circumstances compromise the full coverage of the parameter.
-[X] With the first spell being cast, all assets will receive a general alarm, using the Necrotic Molds and Watchmen creatures to telephatically transmit the alert into the Snare and to SD. The alarm will be for full battle stations and assuming a full and imminent assault by unknown hostiles, assumed to be of extreme threat level.
--[X] This includes launching all air assets currently in Westhaven on a course to the Snare, while all nearby patrols will abort their current patterns and converge to the Snare to render fire support.
--[X] Companions who are not already somewhere else will stand by in SD until more information is available. A small strike team capable of ending the possession can Teleport over at their own discretion, depending on them getting enough people together on short notice to do something against Balerion.
-[X] Use the Fiery Darkenbeasts and Black Brutes to do non-lethal damage to Balerion and force him to land.
-[X] The moment Viserys learns of the attack, he will Greater Planeshift over and direct the response, starting by using Mythic power to cast Mindblank at Balerion to eject the possessor.
