i still thing we should make Brown mold Mold wretches to send to any and all Efreeti frots. seeing as they heal from fire damage. thyey seem like they woould make a good chassis for something?

I have some ideas for the load outs of any caster creatures we send this way or items we sell them. We have an edge with stuff that's either cheaper or only available with divine casting since the genies are uncomfortable with gods. They probably still use it, but I'd expect it to be less completely mined out for ideas than arcane magic in general and their elemental domains in particular. That gives us some wiggle room to stand out more as a supplier.

Troop buffs:
Insignia of Alarm
Insignia of Warding
Insignia of Blessing: all three of these are divine spells for providing a lot of people a little buff at long range on a budget, so they're perfect for this.
Beacon of Luck: the way this lets you pack people close to the caster to pick up a buff and then move away for the duration of the spell gives it some utility.

Redirect Spell: This one is very useful in that it does exactly what it says on the tin without letting the caster try to resist it. I'd be reluctant to reply this for the reasons brought up for the shield other item, but this has limits that make it more reasonable.

The protecting creature has to stay close to the protected one to be useful, so it's actually possible to off it and then move on to the target, or just use AoE spells. Despite that it does provide very through anti magic protection for VIPs and is a low enough level we can work something out for either constant casting or an item to maintain the effect for some forged creature.

IIRC, while the Genies do not usually have Divine magic themselves, there are a lot of Divine casters present in the Peerless Empire regardless. So at least for enchanted items, they shouldn't be lacking them in general or ignorant of the options.

That's true, but I'd expect them to be less well explored than their main areas of expertise. I'd give better odds of us finding low (ish) hanging fruit for things they don't like to use than in their bread and butter industries outside of edge cases and exotic stuff.

In any case, the abilities in that list are pretty valuable even if they already have equivalents because it'd give them room to reallocate their other assets for things we can't provide.

A battle field that goes through a lot of materials routinely is a stupidly profitable place to be an arms dealer, so optimizing our contribution seems worth our while to me.

I would feel more sanguine about leasing out crafting throughput to our allies in exchange for money if it wasn't the fact that we need to industrialize and expand our own military far more than we need to make a profit off arms deals.

I don't see that ever changing. Becoming an arms dealer is usually something you do for criminals who have a harder time getting their hands onto weapons and defensive measures than a legitimate government could, or to crack-pot dictatorships with low industry but lots of resources they can trade for them.

OK vote closed, let's see about the rest of the planar combat.

Dude, let's not make the necromorphs at this point in time. Even a classic Wight apocalypse is one missed specter away from happening. Just because they're literally in another plane doesn't mean we should get comfortable.

Part MMMDCLXXVIII: Sparks and Brimstone
Sparks and Brimstone

Thirteenth Day of the Third Month 294 AC

While Div's Delight presents one with an unexpected opportunities in soul forging, or at the very least bleeding the Brazen Throne of valuable officers and sorcerers, the state of the war on the Sea of Fire is unchanged at least on the surface. Many Salamander Clans have fallen to opportunistic raiding and squabbling while the adamantine clad ships of the Great Sultan seem content to maintain a shadow of their former presence supporting their 'loyalists'. A frustrated Siduri admits during a quick visit to the Deep that she suspects the efreeti have decided to try a different heading for the battle.

"Fighting Corsairs is like trying to catch smoke in your bare hands, even the ports can move if their princes dare the edge of the Wild, but one of the things the Princedoms can never escape is themselves." The sorceress brushes a stray strand of hair from her eyes with more annoyance than it perhaps merits. "They quarrel over gold, over toll rights, over old grudges. That is half the reason pirates like the Golden Wind were able to sail free for so long so I can hardly claim not to have profited from it, but to see them start to fall towards that now with a foe waiting in the wings to disembowel them over the coals..." She slips the last word in Infernal, and adds a few choice curses for good measure.

"Do you have any leads on specific efforts of the Brazen Throne to pull the rebel clans apart?" you prompt concerned, at least as much as you can be with conflicts so much closer to home filling almost every waking hour.

"I'm not a one woman inquisition," she sighs. "I have contacts in Free Ports and people willing to share a rumor or start a new one even in the City of Brass but I'm still Yrten's ship mage, and without the dragon or the priestess to help us hunt I have to spend more time making sure the Golden Wind's own raids run more like silk thread than razor wire."

"Fair point," you nod, wondering if you even have enough inquisitors who could operate on the Plane of Fire. Something to ask Garin when you see him tonight at the play. "How have these raids gone?"

"Smooth or I wouldn't have made the point to bring them up, would I have," Siduri gives you a sharp knowing smile that would not have been out of place on the faces of your first captains to sail out of the Deep, now either dead or respected officers all. "Enough spoils to be getting on with and no losses unless you count the one salikotal who was tired of raiding and wants to join the Legion. Better advancement prospects he says..."

"I cannot fault the logic..." you reply after a moment. You make another mental note have one of the Sisters of Battle ensure the transfer runs smoothly on both sides, perhaps Mereth herself.

Later that evening, as the faintly anachronistic and in some ways wildly inaccurate play about the life of Aenar the Exile takes a break between acts, you present Siduri's concerns to Garin.

"We should be able to deploy some agents next month," your friend musses. "There are certainly plenty of merchants looking to strike it rich, freed slaves and sellswords looking for a patron in Sorcerer's Deep and some of them have even found their way under the seal of the book and sword. I am concerned about working with Siduri's contacts though. She knows how to handle them, questionable means of binding aside, but I am not sure how close we want our agents to work with devils still under the ultimate sway of the Lord of the Ninth. That seems not only dangerous in the moment but a dangerous habit to get into."

What do you do about the potential Plane of Fire intrigue?

[] Have Garin debrief Siduri about her contacts with an eye to integrating them in any future Inquisition projects

[] Keep Siduri's contacts and the Inquisition separate

[] Write in

OOC: The raids themselves were very middle of the road, unfortunately the Salamander Princedoms are not doing so well, possibly pushed along from the shadows.

I fear that if we don't make a confederation of salamanders ourselves, they never will.

Maybe we can send Amy there to finally expand into the PoF

Yes... yes we do.

Finally, we have a use for him! Who knew collecting dangerous sentient creatures would come in handy later on??

Like the Twins.

Getting Amrelath too much influence in the PoF is a recipe for trouble later on. I agree that we should start taking over the Salamandar realms, but that should be part of a larger, concentrated effort, not just something that let Amrelath do alone.

Here's an edited version of the chapter, @DragonParadox.

Can't give Amrelath to large a hand in an entire plane. We need to visit the salamander principalities and unite them ourselves. Pick a leader among them and funnel them money, manpower, and magic.

[X] Stick with the usual, atomized contact you would use for every hostile source. Multiple small cells using a few of her contacts each, with each of her contacts beings used by multiple cells, so that the overlap can be used to find out any duplicitous contacts or to notice when a cell might have been flipped. Devils in service of Baator are no more risky in that regard then any other contact from a high-magic realm with it's own security apparatus.

We pretty much tried that the last time we interacted with them, but the results are less then useful.

We should just start to recruit refugees and smaller polities to start a few Imperial colonies / military outposts.

I'll vote for it because this seems like a reasonable approach, but I don't agree with that evaluation. By all indications Hell is really really good at this kind of stuff, and I doubt they have many true peers in this field.

Oh, but how would that help the Salamanders?
It helps them in the form that we get their shit together for them. Once we have our first presence there, we can work on vassalizing the sane Salamander leaders and getting rid of the less reasonable people.

Ultimately, they can offer bribes, use magic and abuse high social skills against our people. Something that the Shaitan, Djinn, Efreeti, Marid or every other planar power can too. We didn't panic over the fact that our assets in Vialesk have to interact with Marid intrigues, so why now?
