You are a true optimist to even suggest that it's not assholes who rule the modern world.

On the other hand, if you sacrifice them right out of the womb, they don't cost much to produce, so you can get 5 of them for the cost of a single 5 year old, which for a society that's short on food for feeding their sacrifices is an attractive idea.

So if an infant sacrifice, is worth even 25% of what an adult sacrifice is, then if you have a lot of women to impregnate, but not that much excess food, it can economically make sense to sacrifice infants.

Even moreso if you are having the women do work that can be done even while heavily pregnant, if that's the case, then the cost of an infant sacrifice, is only giving the woman a bit of extra food for the duration of the pregnancy, and maybe getting a little less work out of her during the last month or 2 of the pregnancy, making the effort to reward ratio between infant sacrifices and teen sacrifices be in favor of infant sacrifices.

Of course this whole idea is utterly monstrous and I want to violently murder anyone who practice it, but for an evil empire with utterly no morals, infant sacrifice could theoretically make economical sense, over letting the children grow up.

Just an FYI for the rest of the thread, what DP refers to above is the concept of the anito. Pre-hispanic Philippines don't directly worship the gods, but instead pokes ancestor & nature spirits who acts as messengers. Exactly like a kami.
Neat tie-in there DP.
