The bells of merchants moving with carts draw his attention, he follows them with his eyes and sees a woman selling fruit, at the far end he can smell fresh bread being baked.
"Good at the very least I have this much." he thinks to himself while remembering the few things that land has.
He is not a Lannister anymore and his lands are nothing more than a simple village or what one would call a village. He had come to this place hoping to meet the lord and strike a deal, but it was now clear to him that it would never happen.
He had been waiting for hours so he could speak to him or whoever the man deemed worthless enough to deal with him.
He looks past the trees and sees the mountain, it's not too far, and if he runs he can make it before it gets dark. He has no plan, but he knows that some of the best things happen when you don't plan for them.
He tells the guards that he has to return to his lands before offering his apologies to the lord of this place and makes his way to the mountain.
The journey was uneventful and if he hadn't needed to reach the mountain before the sun went down he would have rested.
The city at the edge of the mountain was not a city but a large town the houses were made of mud and stone, which was something rare considering how far the place was from civilization.
Under normal circumstances, he would have waited until the sun rose to speak to the guard and ask for an audience with whoever was in charge.
Unfortunately, there weren't any guards anywhere, and despite how the people looked at him with suspicion, he didn't see any knights patrolling the town.
The massive stone doors that were connected to the wall that sounded the mountain were easy for him to find. And now that he stood in front of them, he couldn't help but feel like an ant.
He searched for something that he could use to contact those inside but he didn't find anything. It was clear to him that those beyond the walls didn't want to speak with anyone outside of them.
He looked up hoping to see a guard staring at him, but even if there were guards on the walls he doubted that they would have seen him.
"I request an audience. I would like to open trade, I don't have much to offer except for men to work the fields!" he shouted.
He felt like a fool, what he was offering was what every lord had in abundance and those who had more than enough didn't need such things.
He looked at the stone doors and shook his head of course they wouldn't be able to hear through those things.
He was about to turn and look for a place to sleep, somewhere where he wouldn't have to worry about having his throat slit while he slept, but before he could leave the doors opened.
It was as if a spell had fallen in the city as everything became silent and not even the barking dogs or the cries of children could be heard anymore.
It was only now that he could appreciate how massive the walls that protected the mountain were, for the doors were as thick as castle walls.
He expected to see giants or great beasts on the other side but to his disappointment, he found a man wearing black armor, and a woman who was wearing white armor.
With them was a small girl dressed in a fine white dress waiting for him.
It was only his experience that forced his attention away from the three and he soon saw the guards that kept an eye on him and the city behind him.
One of the men who was dressed in white armor that had the emblem of a red cross and a red drop of blood walked up to him removed his sword and placed it on the ground in front of him.
Tywin didn't know what to do, he looked past the knight and found that both the man and woman were waiting for him to do something, but what it was he didn't know.
He knew that they were testing him and while he was tempted to pick up the sword and unsheath it out of instinct he couldn't help but feel as if that was the wrong move.
Perhaps he was overthinking things, perhaps this was a test that didn't have an answer and it was just meant to test his character.
Something that these people used to see how they should act around him. If that was true then he already failed because he had hesitated making them aware that he didn't act out of instinct alone.
He had his answer even if it was the wrong one.
He picked up the sword and unsheathed it but stopped halfway and acted as if he was inspecting the blade before putting it back in the sheat and returning it to the knight.
He turned to look at the three strangers and to his surprise he found them standing just a few steps away from him.
He hadn't seen or heard them move, but he noticed that the girl remained behind the walls, meaning that she was either their daughter or the daughter of someone who was only allowed to watch.
"Well don't just stand there man, come on. It's getting late and you probably want a place to sleep and something warm to eat and drink." the man wearing black armor says to him.
Tywin couldn't help but nod, but when he turned to look at the woman he froze, she wore the same emblem as the guards, meaning that either she was a member of them or she was part of the house that led them.
He was about to say something, but the words were lost to him, and while he did try to remember what he was trying to say the words abandoned him again.
He stopped walking when massive beasts carrying baskets full of exotic fruits walked out of the walls, they were led by guards each wearing the emblem of the houses that ruled in the mountain.
Tywin takes note of every emblem and if he had the chance he carved the faces of the men into his mind.
He had passed the first obstacle, he had managed to meet someone it didn't matter if they were in charge or not, now he had to convince them that his village was worth something.
That he was worth the trouble that would come when word spread about them working together.
