It seemed as if the mosaic that your soul was built on – a gruesome act of horror and in its nature just as evil as the Soul-Snatcher – had kept you alive and healthy. You still felt like there was a hole in your breast. A vacant nothing that had previously not been there, but the sorrow surrounding it was growing fainter with every passing hour.

By now, you did not feel any different than you had before.

How many fragments would you have to lose until your own soul couldn't feed on them anymore? What happened to the fragment that had been ripped out? Had it been able to pass one? Did it stay inside the Soul-Snatcher?

Oh I didn't even think of that.

Things I want to do

[ ] Runes Club Research
[ ] Random Encounter

Also we should to work on our constitution if we want to do more exploring. (IIRC)

Edit -
Did a quick refresh- mental stress and physical stress effect jacobs results, we should train our (pretty low) constitution and probably do something to relax.

Also we should train herbology and magical creatures before we do the forest action.

My messy brain-meats tell me that acromantula venom can be bought? One of those 'legal, but expensive substances due to inherent danger of 'farming' it' or something.

I remeber thinking of selling the potion to NEWT students, so there must have been a reason I belived that viable.
Yeah, but for that plan we need to either get more Acromantula poison via killing them in the Dark Forest, or we need to get enough money to buy enough venom for the first complete batch of potions...
If we take the Dark Forest action, we could honestly also hunt them ourselves.
I would rather avoid the Dark forest until we get some combat magic capable of causing serious damage to our targets (Like getting deep understanding of Incendio, Diffindio and Flipendo)...

I suspect there's probably some reason we won't be able to replicate a time turner, some limited resource or another that allows it to work, but I've been wrong before.
We can always try to ask for one of them from professor McGonagall... It worked with Hermione and we are a much worse case of Bookworm than her because Jacob searches for knowledge for knowledge's sake, he is brilliant but he doesn´t need any sort of academic validation to pursue that knowledge...

Time to learn Avada Kedavra. It's only illegal when used on humans, so it should be quite right to learn it to kill a deep sea horror. We really need to get our goddamn soul back

We know OOC that Avada Kedavra messes with both caster's and target's souls more than with their bodies. Are you sure Avada Kedavra-ing the thing won't destroy all the souls it contains? Or it won't be able to use them as a kind of a shield?

To kill that thing, we first need to learn more about what it is. Or if we can't find info on it, we need to find info on dementors, and all other soul eating monsters out there.

Ok, the reasonings for my plan are that we need to get our Alchemy leveled up for many projects, chief among them is the map, then we should advance to make sure to get the things that are mandatory out of the way ASAP, and the spells are trying to get the best version of protego and the most damaging spells that we have available done for our exploration of the Dark Forest...

I don't even know what to say to that.
Such technical compliance to soul and its laws will make us a second Voldemort eventually. Unforgivables fuck up their caster. I don't know how to say it more clearly. They are not a spell for a 13 year old kid.

We already have an awesome alchemy solution for that...
Ghostly GogglesMagical Item. You now have a much higher understanding about what it is to be a ghost. For a second, you walked in their shoes and looked through their eyes. They live in a spectrum of the world far different to yours, bridging between the here and the there as most of their magic has passed on and some of their soul stayed behind. You may be able to build something that did the same; give an item magic and then simulate the process the Grey Lady let you feel. Simulate the process of dying and give yourself the ability to see between the living- and the afterlife. [While wearing Ghostly Goggles; Allows you to see the spirits of the living; Gain a +5 in combat against creatures; Gain the ability to see a form of afterimages as footprints that living creatures leave behind; Gain the ability to see living things through walls; ?? when interacting with Dementors ??] (Requires Alchemy and Ancient Runes skill of at least P), DC: 400.

Snape and Aurors in the First Wizarding War used it with no issues.

Also I don't get where this idea of Unforgiveables fucking up their caster's soul comes from, it is not canon.

Not to mention Jacob doesn't care if something is "unforgiveable". We built his entire character on purpose to be someone who is pragmatic and willing to do quite a lot in order to get more knowledge/accomplish his goals. His response to Flamels using the souls of hundreds of wizards to create him was "That's pretty cool".

get the things that are mandatory out of the way ASAP
Hmmm. It is March. I wonder how students are expected to be able to cover all these things by year's end tbh.

So, there's no chance of me finishing my reread by the time the moratorium ends, so I'll throw this out there - basically, it's taking a stab at a few mandatory actions and, and working on the Patronus charm - partially in case the Dementors go crazy or we get caught up in events, but mainly as a "Fuck you" to Lupin.

Also I like Jacob's unfocused approach to life so I'm throwing in a Random Encounter (The Runes Club looks to be a group social action, and it might be nice to spread those over two turns as other people have their own stuff going on and I prefer to experience two of those scenes rather than try and 'checklist' the action and only get one.)
[plan removed until clarification from QM]

@Tabula Rasa Can Jacob cast the Patronus charm now? I'm not seeing in the 'Spell Research' list. Related; if so, did we get the 'get it while Lupin is a teacher' bonus thingy?
edit edit: it's on our 'known spells' list on the front page. I wonder if we'll get the 'FU Lupin' bonus or if that was lost to us because we learned it from the experience of our component souls.

[] Plan Creatures, Duelling and a bit of Homework
-[ ] Case IV: The girl that is two
-[ ] Runes Club Research X 2
-[ ] Random Encounter
-[ ] Write a Letter (Free Action) I went exploring, outside the limits of Hogwarts. There was a monster and it injured me, deeply, via a method that would kill most others. I've healed over and I don't want to stop seeking new things, but a wise man advised me to being friends on excursions. And in a year or two when they are better able to defend themselves I hope to do that. The thing is, the monster first attacked my mind. The book you sent is... amazing, and some of the lessons in it are what would have allowed me resist the attack had I been more skilled. But it's also personal. Are there any introductory texts on Occlumency that you can send that I would be able to share with them if they are interested?

Ok here is my final plan I am taking going after Hermione because Jacob cannot live without a good mystery, the Rune Club Research and the random encounter to cover our social needs... And on the academic front, we should try to get those damned options out of the way ASAP so that we can focus on whatever we want for the rest of the year, and get some magics that will be EXCEEDINGLY useful for when we have to fight against anything...

Lestrange directly taunts Harry "You need to really want to cause pain -- to enjoy it -- righteous anger won't hurt me for long". You need to want pain, want death, want submission; if you go "I need this information so I force you to tell me" - it won't work, because you desire not spell's direct result but something else. You need more than this. But such reasoning will damage any mind eventually.

It's not that the spells are "unforgiveable", it's that they are dangerous to Jacob. Snape literally asks Dumbledore if his soul will be damaged if he kills the director.

There are many other spells, I'm sure, that can be used for almost the same purposes. Why'd you jump to the worst ones immediately is beyond me.

Yeah, whatever, if you believe learning such a spell is a way to proceed - do your thing. I'm done with this conversation.

We've just used it against the underwater monster this chapter.

Need to make a soul trap. Something that will never be useful beyond regaining the sliver of soul we lost, and will be forgotten after use. It's just something we'd never need again. That's for sure.

Legilimency & Occlumency and Magical Creatures - Jacob was rather bad with those two during the lake adventure.
Intellect is currently locked by constitution so we should really train it.
Get one of the potions out of the way and work on our defense.
Edit - added the letter

[ ] Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea II – The fairly large Great Lake to the south of the main building has always been your most favorite part of Hogwarts' surrounding lands. It was breathtaking how beautiful it was on a sunny day and frightening how dark it could get at night, almost looking like a hole in the fabric of the world. And while it had been as beautiful and wonderful below as you had hoped, one problem hat stopped you in your discovery. The monster has overstayed its stay in the surroundings of Hogwarts. You will hunt it and you will end it. (Takes 3 Actions, can't be taken in the same month as Break through your Horizon and What hides behind trees.) [Required: 'Legilimency & Occlumency of A-] (Advised: Understanding of Magical Creatures of P-, Progress in combat spell variety; 1 x vial of Wideye Potion available.]

[ ] What hides behind trees I (Danger identified: Dementors. You know have a counter spell and some experience with soul-sucking foes.) – The deep Forbidden Forest extends around to the west of the castle. Everyone knows everything there is to know about the Forbidden Forest; it is a forest and it is forbidden. The rest is just rumors… werewolf's, vampires, monsters and spiders. All dangers a child could imagine await you in the forest. Why were you trembling in anticipation about breaking out of the castle through the passageway behind the mirror and exploring what had been forbidden to you for way too long? (Takes 3 Actions, can't be taken in the same month as Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and Break through your Horizon)
Hogwarts really isn't a safe place to bring a soul, is it?

Can we actually train skills like Dark Arts and Alchemy?
I just kinda thought they were sort of special subjects that required things like certain books or tutors.

Anyway, things to do before the school year ends.
- Shrinking Solution (Needed for Exams)
- Antidote for Uncommon Poisons (Needed for Exams)
- Finding Runes: 7/10
- Increase Flying by one rank (Not mandatory, but it would give us an O in the class)

Otherwise we need to prepare for the Dueling Tournament and the various Adventures. Also build the Ghostly Goggles and use them to look at a Dementor. And maybe some socialization.

Yeah, we can... Once the skill is unlocked we can train normally it until it gets to the attribute´s cap...

I would also add to the list getting the map done, it seems extremely useful to have or own marauder´s map, and it is likely that we would get extra actions...

Hm, while the lake is not the ocean, it is close enough for such purposes to trigger one's thalassophobia. It will hopefully be a long time before it is decided to step into those depths again.

In any case, one agrees with learning the last two potions required for exams. Other matters can be addressed after the remaining requirements have been met.

@Fanhunter696
I like your plan- it gets through the mandatory Potions that we need, increases Alchemy so we can start working on the Maurauder's map next turn while also increasing Alchemy in time for us to do the Case that is possibly Hermione using the Time Turner.

May I make a suggestion, though: could you lower "Do your research" for spells from x3 to x2 and add in a Constitution training? It is at 2, which caps our Intellect at 7. Also, we may want Jacob to still be physically active even as he hunkers down a bit to get things done.

Edit: Also, add in the "Pocion Vital" to the end of the list for Potions research. If we pop the mysterious DC 80 thing, it may not cost an action to research the almost-researched Shrinking Solution.

Points might be better placed in Creativity this time.

1. It increases all research, spellcasting, and dueling rolls by +2.
2. We are capped at A+ for many of our key skills: DADA, Charms, Transfigurations, Potions, and Alchemy.

Though only DADA is at A (the others, except Alchemy are at P), we may want to get as many of these skills at A+ before the end of the year. Because, with the +1 level up coming from our Ravenclaw bonus, it would put them at the statistically more difficult E-. This is important because E- is where the bonuses go from +1 per level to +5 and upwards per level.

At E-, we would have +15 to all rolls (including research rolls, where bonuses matter because each point lowers the DC).
