Chapter 1

Once upon a time, there were three sisters.

The youngest of them was known as the weakest of the three royal siblings. She was but a mere knight in an army of an already forgotten race of the ancient past. But a great catastrophe was bound to happen and she, the once smallest and weakest of the three sisters, was driven to become the mightiest of warriors in the history of their race.

The second sister was known for her wits and thirst for knowledge. She was the one who foresaw the great catastrophe, which would lead to the end of their race. Through observation, she and her father confirmed a cosmic catastrophe which was known as the Sysygy. The many moons of their planet would align in one single line every few centuries on one side of their planet, and with the combined gravitational pull of those many moons, a gigantic tidal wave would consume one-third of their planet. And with her wits and knowledge, the second of the trio foresaw that their kingdom would not survive this event.

The third and oldest of the three sisters combined the two traits of her younger sisters. In the end, she wasn't as strong as the youngest, or as cunning as the second, but she combined both strength and wisdom, together with a lot of experience and an unbreakable will and as a result, she was seen as the mightiest of the three.

But all three of them had a significant flaw. It was within their blood. Their race wasn't a long-lived one. Reaching a lifespan of a decade was rare, and while their mind and body were otherwise far from weak, in the end, their race wasn't the strongest on their planet.

One day, a trusted retainer of the royal house betrayed them. Fearing for the life of their race and seeing the daughters as unsuited to rule them. She contacted a rivaling faction and began to plan against the current royal house. She managed to sway a lot of the royals within the house to her side, and in the end, they manage to take the throne by killing the king.

But the three sisters managed to escape, and they swore revenge. The three sisters had a goal, and with a salvaged ship, they dove deeper into their planet in hopes of finding new technology or secrets to secure their race, as well as getting revenge on those that betrayed them.

And they did find something. It was a secret chamber, hidden in a deep cave-system which contained gods from even before their time. Those gods whispered promises of power and revenge through their sealed prison and in the end, those three sisters freed those gods.

Each of the sisters made a pact with one of those gods and with the larvae's that they accepted within their body and a new way of life, they were reborn. The youngest, Xi Ro became Xivu Arath, the God of War. The second sister, Sathona became Savathun, the Witch-Queen and the oldest of the three, born Aurash became Auryx the Willbreaker.

Now reborn, those three became the founder of a new race. A race that was tightly bound to the worm-gods, the darkness that they represented and, gaining strength through war by way of the sword-logic, a new way of living.

They retook their kingdom, invaded the other races on their planet and quickly gained new resources as well as technology to flee from the Sysygy. Now free from certain doom, they traveled from solar-system to solar-system to slaughter everything in their way. And with each kill at the hands of the three sisters, the darkness within them, and more importantly, the worm-larvae within them grew stronger.

The younger sisters didn't mind it or didn't notice the difference. But Auryx did and as time passed, the more her mind became fuzzier and corrupted. Whole years would pass between the time her mind awoke from the lust of bloodshed and in a desperate attempt to save herself, Auryx enclosed her soul to flee from the corruption.

Still, her body already puppet to the Worm-Gods, fought on and on and on. At some point, Auryx's body became so tainted that it radiated darkness itself. Space bend around her and where the darkness came from, known as the Ascended Realm, and the body of the taken Auryx met, new creatures arose. Tainted by pure darkness, those creatures were wrong in every possible way.

The Taken, now called, were hungry for the living. Friends and foes didn't matter. The first two sisters fled from Auryx's taken body which transformed even more during the battle between the two younger sisters against the shell which Auryx became, and something new arose from the fragments of a once kind soul.

Oryx, the Taken King. A being of almost pure darkness. But only almost as the original Auryx still lived within. Still, the darkness of Oryx, while not managing to penetrate outright the barrier Auryx created, still had a significant influence on her. It changed her, took her but without the worm-gods influence, she retained her sanity and blinked into the true meaning of darkness. She became taken, but not in the way Oryx, her former body became. With her new found power, she managed to flee from the body which imprisoned her taken soul, thankfully in time.

Now free, she roamed space as a patch of darkness even darker than space itself for an unknown amount of time. Thankfully, the tainted soul found a new purpose in its unlife by an unexpected encounter with a being of great power and silver eyes.

Now...

Salem, born Aurash, made Auryx and forced Oryx, was now sitting on her throne, looking at an insignificant human with clear disinterest in her eyes.

''What brings you here, Ozpin? You of all people should know that the Grimm won't pick a side. We will always remain as neutral and will purge that which threatens the balance of light and dark within Remnant.''

''I beg you for forgiveness Queen Salem. I'm here with bad news for Remnant as a whole.'' the human stuttered.

''The seals are weakening from year to year, and I fear that the strife between the kingdoms, as well as the lack of adequately trained warriors, will result into a total collapse when the seal truly breaks. I don't know what lays behind those seals, for as only you, the mother of life and death on Remnant knows the full meaning behind it, but to preserve the balance on Remnant, I feel the need to interference in the strife and start preparing the warriors of the future so they can handle that which lays beyond.''

Salem only chuckled at the human before him. Remembering the old times and her past fears. She stood up from her throne as the moonlight shone directly at her deathly pale skin, reminding Ozpin of the wrongness that the Goddes of Life and Death represents. Salem wore a long black robe with a pattern that reminded one of the red eyes on specific parts of the robe. It was made of the best silk on this planet, and it glided silently behind her while she walked to the big window to the right of her throne.

Looking out of it, she observed the broken moon for some time before turning back and looking at Ozpin.

''A good idea Ozpin. Knowing you, you have probably planned before coming to me, didn't you?''

''Yes, my goddess! I plan to open a school for hunters and huntresses. Independent of all kingdoms as a sign of peace. I will make sure that the next generations of Hunters and Huntresses will become stronger so that their children will be born with a lot of potentials. I hope to mold those children into excellent warriors.''

''We will see where it will lead to. Well, you have my approval, Ozpin. I won't take steps against your plan...at least for now. Contact me when you think you are ready for your next step, whatever and whenever it may be. ''

Chapter 2
''Are you ready, Princess?'' a man with balding brown hair and a large mustache asked the girl, standing in the center of the hall.

The girl took her time to even out her breathing before she replied to his question with a short nod. Readying her stance, she awaited the start of this combat exam.

Klein, her butler and a trusted friend of her looked at his pocket watch for a few brief seconds, before he deposited it back into his jacket and clapped with his hands, signaling the start of this fight.

Two armored, giant figures got up from their kneeling position and readied their equally giant swords. One before the princess, the other behind her. Weiss Schnee, princess and next to the throne of King Jacques Schnee, the King of Atlas, opened her eyes and with a small spin on the rotating chamber of her rapier, began the fight with a dash, enhanced by her Aura and the glyph that appeared under her from her Semblance.

The Armored Knight before her stood at attention, parried the dash with the back of the sword and flung Weiss into the air. The princess, foreseeing this rotated herself in the air and while doing so, infused her weapon with red dust before she summoned another glyph to catapult her back down.

Her adversary wasn't fast enough to parry this attack, and Weiss knew that through painful experience. She hit the head of the armored knight, and on impact, a red aurora-like light exploded out of the blade, increasing the impact of the attack and staggering the knight.

Using the impact of the attack, Weiss flung herself back with a small backflip, landed behind the knight and prepared her next attack before she was forced to evade the slash of the second knight who didn't stand idle on its previous position with a side flip.

Huffing slightly in annoyance, she timed her next attack to the swing of the second knight and parried its attack with the help of the red dust, enhancing the impact of her sword through a small, elemental explosion and used another glyph to dash right under the second knight.

Readying her rapier by pointing it upwards, she shot into the sky with the help of another glyph, staggering and damaging the helm of the armored knight. Using another glyph while orienting herself to use the same attack on the second knight, she shot back down, but instead of infusing her rapier with red dust, she infused it while airborne with cyan dust which summoned a small gale on impact.

While not as damaging as red dust infused attacks, the cyan dust infused attack staggered not only the second knight but also the first knight that was already close enough to strike Weiss at that time. And like in the first attack, she used the impact of her attack to bounce off the knight and land gracefully behind both of the knights, now very close to each other.

Now, she rotated the chamber in the guard of her rapier again to the blue chamber. Using the dust within this chamber, she summoned a shimmering blue glyph behind her which shot ice shards at both knights, chilling their armor and slowing their movement.

Summoning another glyph under her, she dashed between both knights, evaded the slower swing of the second knight by tilting her body to the side, avoiding it by a hairbreadth and stabbed the tip of her sword into the ground. A big, blue shimmering glyph appeared beneath Weiss, and suddenly, big icy pillars stabbed out of the ground, impaling and holding on to those two knights.

Taking a quick glance around her, she noted that both knight still moved around, only partially hampered by the icy-pillars that impaled them before they broke free. Heavily damaged, but very much ready to ruin the day of the princess.

Both Knights moved at the same time and charged the princess between them. Said Princess infused another round of red dust into the blade and parried the first attack while she trusted her right hand to the oncoming second attack from behind her. She gritted her teeth and summoned a small glyph over her hand, which blocked the second strike and exploded outwards on impact. The small explosion took the sword out of the hands of the knight and staggered him slightly, but the attack itself took a toll on the princess as well, and she reacted too slowly to the punch of the first knight.

It hit her squarely around her left eye as she turned her gaze back to it and her aura broke while trying to lessen the impact. She was flung a good few meters away, but she rolled with the impact and stood up immediately after dispensing the momentum.

Touching her face with her right hand, she saw a good amount of blood on it and grit her teeth. She steadied her breathing again, infused another round of red dust into her blade and closed her eyes, waiting on the already advancing knights. Both knights swung their reacquired swords immediately with little gap between each strike.

, and her red dust infused rapier as she used the momentum of the impact to rotate her whole body faster than normal, reaching out with her right hand as it formed another glyph and exploded next to the incoming second strike from the other knight.

The sword was pushed away, and it landed heavily mere inches away from her body. Still, the small explosion pushed her a few inches away and going by the pain in her right shoulder, she probably dislocated it with this move.

Pushing through the pain, she rotated the chamber of her rapier to the black one which contained gravity dust and summoned with it a medium sized glyph under both knights. It pulsed and threw both knights into the air. Another quick switch and she changed back into blue, summoning multiple giant icy-pillars under the falling knights.

Weiss watched with satisfaction as both knights were impaled and stopped moving before both began to dematerialize as the multiple Geist, which possessed the Armors died and took the dust-made armor with them.

Smiling, Weiss looked at the podium across the hall and nodded slightly to her father who watched the fight. He nodded back at her and whispered to Klein, who moved to his side after the start of the battle. Klein radiated happiness and worry at the same time. Easily seen by the sad smile he had on his face and the ever-shifting colors of his eyes, showing his current mood-swing from personality to personality.

Klein bowed once and hurriedly ran back down the stairs of the podium. Weiss saw how her father got up from his chair and moved out of the podium and into one of the doors that lead out of the hall.

''Little Snowflake! Are you alright?'' Klein hurriedly took the appearance of every blemish on the princess and made a note to himself as a reminder to bring some painkillers to the room of the princess.

''I'm fine, Klein. Thank you for your worry.'' Weiss smiled at the butler. Knowing that he saw himself as something of a father-figure for the young princess and considering that the king, her father, didn't have much time or the personality to be a proper father for the princess, she was more than okay with it.

''I will bring you some painkillers later, but your father requested an audience with you in his room.'' Klein sounded irritated, but both knew that denying a request from the king, daughter or not, could end badly.

''I see. I should probably go right away before father becomes impatient.'' the princess replied. Weiss sheathed her rapier back and took the tissue, offered by Klein, to clean to blood from her left eye away. When she was ready and as presentable as she could, considering her injuries and the state of her clothes directly after the fight, she moved into the direction of her father's private room.

It took a good amount of time until she reached the room. The castle, as big and beautiful as it was from the outside, looked rather empty on the inside. At least in comparison to the size of everything within and around the castle. It felt lonely, but Weiss was used to it.

Reaching her destination, she knocked on the door of her father's private room, guarded by a group of loyal soldiers that absolved the hunter training with exceptional scores and a lot of experience.

''You called for me, father?'' Weiss asked as she opened the door to the room. As always, her father didn't bat an eye on the injury of his daughter or any of the people around him. That's just the way he is.

''Weiss, as we discussed before, if you succeed to finish the upcoming exam, you will be giving a specific task to perform for the kingdom. Seeing as you managed to do so, I want you to travel to the kingdom of Vale and learn within Beacon Academy at the request of a friend of mine. More information will be presented later when needed. Go on and pack your things. You will depart tomorrow.''

Overwhelmed by the sudden and strange request, Weiss only nodded and did as she was told. And already a day later, she was out and on her merry way to the prestigious, but still mysterious Hunter and huntress Academy that everyone knows of, but nobody knows anything about.
