You made it, with a fair warning from the Turks, with a promise to keep your girlfriend safe...

You made it, with a fair warning from the Turks, with a promise to keep your girlfriend safe, you knew Midgar was not the place to go. You found yourself heading towards the mythrial mines, where the mine workers from Klam helped you out. You avoided Klam like the plauge for it's own safety.

You smile as you listen to the miners talk about the resistance to ShinRa growing at fort condor.

You were thinking about being a mercenary anyway.

You stayed the night with the miners, when normally you would have moved on right away. One extra day didn't hurt...

Along the way, Cloud seemed to be coming back to reality.

"Hey Cloud, how are you hanging?" You ask with a bit of carefree attitiude, but Cloud wasn't responding well.

"Zaa....Zack? What....how..." Cloud asked, he still seemed out of it, but at least he was able to talk a little.

I seemed like he was going to snap at any second though.

"Your buddy isn't looking too well....better than before, but still." A former miner asked, looking over Cloud. He was going off to join the rebellion at Fort Condor, so he decided to go with you.

"I'm not sure how to help him..." You mounted your Chocobo and tied Cloud to another one.

"He's getting better, that's what matters." You say, and the miner nods his head as he gets on his own chocobo.

"Just make sure he eats and drinks...I haven't seen him drink once." Oh. Right.

You kinda neglected that trying to keep him alive, that wasn't helping much, was it?

You hand him an open bottle of Potion, and he slowly sips the bottle.

Thank goodness he was able to do that much on his own.

Then you felt a bullet impact your chest.

The Miner dives for the ground as you fall off your chocobo, you cough blood and your vison gets blurry.

You see Cloud rip off the role holding him and grab the Buster Sword off your back. You see his eyes are in a haze, almost like he doesn't realize what he was doing.

He charges toward the enemy with the sword as the miner crawls towards you, taking the open potion Cloud sipped a little on and poured it directly into the bullet wound, the wound sealed but it was obvious the wound wasn't fixed.

He takes one of your Phoenix Downs and lays it on your chest, and continues pouring potions down your throat.

You close your eyes and....you rest a little.

When you open them again, you find Cloud laying next to you in a bed, a different bed thankfully. The Buster Sword leaned against the dug out earthen wall next to you. The Miner from before slept on another bed, and he had his arm in a sling.

"My head...." You mutter, but get up anyway. You had priorities.

[ ] Find out what happened after you blacked out, Check on the Miner

[ ] Check Cloud first.

[ ] Leave them be for now, you have to make sure they are safe first. After all, you just got sniped.

[X] Check Cloud first.

OH YES OH YES

My night has been made!

[X] Check Cloud first.

You roll out of bed and get up. You wince at the outfit you see next to him.

It was full of bullet holes. You gently shake him, but he doesn't wake up, just stirs a little.

You remove the blanket, and you draw in a breath.

"Holy shit Cloud..." He was wounded, bandaged up from his lower hit to his upper chest.

"He killed them, he killed them all." A voice said from the doorway. You turn to look at the voice, and it was an old man with a frown.

"Every single ShinRa on this hill is dead. The group that attacked you called in reinforcements, your boy there killed enough of them to warrant half of the enemy here to come here. We sent a team of two out there to go get you three, and it worked....but your friend..."

He shook his head.

"He killed every single one of them, and quite frankly he scares most of my men. He seems a little unhinged and no one here thinks we can beat him of he loses it."

[ ] I can handle him.

[ ] I promise he won't be an issue.

[ ] What of we took care of your ShinRa problem?

[X] I promise he won't be an issue.

Zack vs early game Cloud isn't even really a fight.

[ ] "I promise he won't be an issue." You say, walking to the Buster Sword and putting it on your back.

"I reckon he won't be, not with him so banged up. But you soilder types tend to heal pretty fast."

"Why not use a potion or a Restore materia?" You ask, feeling Clouds forhead. It was hot.

"He is suffering from Mako Posioning. That bit of Potion you gave him might have done some damage to his brain."

"Oh." You say, and the old man shakes his head.

"I am told you came here to be a Mercenary?"

"Yeah, I wa-" You were cut off as the man continued speaking.

"Of you can do even half of What the boy did, then we simply can't afford you." He said, and Zack shook his head.

"I'm not that expensive." The old man just stared at you, and took a puff of a cigar you didn't realize he even lit.

"We pay 400 gil a battle for the average attacker, I am guessing you would cost 5000 gil or something like that, right?"

Well, that was a bit lower than your average paycheck, but of that was too much.....

"3000 is The Fair Price." You say with a grin as he looks confused at your joke.

Oh. You never introduced yourself.

"Uh, the name's Zack Fair." NOW he proceeded to roll his eyes so hard you were wondering how he didn't pass out.

"2500 and we tolerate your puns. This includes room and board for you and your friend."

You slowly nod your head.

"That's alright I guess." The old man snorted and turned around.

"Deal." He said, walking out of the room.

Your stomach growled, and you chuckled.

"Maybe I should deal with that..." You glance at Cloud and frown with worry.

[ ] Go get food for the both of you.
[ ] Stay and be with Cloud, he might need help.
[ ] Go check out the shops and the armory, you might need to give cloud a weapon.

You walk out the door and follow your nose to the chow hall. Something Soilders didn't get, but the Army did.

You order two plates of this Brown slop and mashed potatoes.

Some sort of local monster meat and the poor man's breakfast in the slums, a potato.

Nothing you weren't used to.

You being the plates over to your tempoary room and you feel your blood pressure rise at what you walk in on.

Cloud was pointing a machine gun at the Miner who was holding a knife up in the air.

"What the heck?" You ask, and Cloud looks at you, about to say something before he lowers his firearm looking absolutely confused.

"I was a Miner, As such we occasionally would come across pools of lifestream. Bloodletting can help if caught quickly enough."

"What do you mean?"

"Lifestream is physical, Like a liquid that is heavier than water. It can be bottled, and even drank of you are stupid enough. Right now his body is trying to absorb more life stream then it can handle and because it is heavier than water It acts as a tattoo on his brain. Too heavy for his body remove on it's own."

"How do you even know this?"

"We had to kill some of the poor fool's who fell into Mako. They almost always turned out comatose, but some turn into monsters....so we kill off the ones who don't recover in time, because they might turn into monsters."

"He's been like this for a while, and he isn't turning into a monster." Flashes of Genesis and Angeal and Sephiroth go through your mind, making you question the fact.

He slowly puts the knife away and sighs.

"Then blood letting will not work, you are fortunate that he is recovering, or we would need to kill him...." He went back to his bed, he was sporting a few bandages himself.

"Give him plenty of water to drink."

"Will it dilute the Mako?"

"No, the human brain needs water to perform at maximum potential, besides keeping him alive it might give him that slight edge."

You take out a water bottle and pop it open, handing it to Cloud was was staring at the machine gun on his bed.

"Thank........" you can't hear him say 'you' but you see that he mouthed it at least. He sips the water slowly and looks lost.

You sit down letting out a deep breath, opeing the two chows you picked up. Burgers. Unknown monster meat, but it looked good.

The next few days you spent taking care of Cloud as he slowly recovered, he always looked confused just looking at you and the Buster Sword.

Finally ShinRa was marching on Fort Condor.

You were the first one out, a52nd the battle was one giant cluster fuck where you had to take care of more than half of the enemy forces because the troops were so disorginized. You had a chance to speak to the man in charge afterwards, as he wanted to personally thank you.

"Sorry about that, no one here is good at stratagy, so you saved this battle." You shook your head and considered what to do.

[ ] Lead the troops on the ground - Less casulties but harder to communicate with troops. Cloud unsupervised.

[ ] Lead from above - Great comunication and orginization of troops. Risking all troops on battlefield. Cloud supervised.

[ ] Teach tactics and help plan defense - He will not be as good as you, but at least it will lessen the damage. Lead troops on the ground, but not frontlines.

We're in control of Zack, a dude that, at the start of his game took on an entire Wutai fort and flattened it by himself. By this point, he can literally take on an entire army solo. Especially if his Limit Break doesn't crap out because FATE said so.
