Miss Weston gives you a small smile and leaves the room, abandoning you to your fate as a human handkerchief. The crying continues for a while, leaving you to awkwardly wait it out. Louise babbles incoherently a bit and you do your best to ignore the fact that once again, you have to deal with a crying child. Not exactly something you're equipped to deal with and casting illusion spells on her every time this happens would be rather wasteful.
Thankfully she seems to realize what she's doing, stiffening at the realization and pushing herself away from you. "Er... I'm relieved to see you've recovered." She says casually, turning away and fiddling with the rocket that was left behind.
Since neither of you wish to talk about what just happened, you climb back to your feet and reply, "Yes, well... come along apprentice, we have business down in engineering." Nodding with visible relief at the obvious deflection, Louise tosses the rocket away and trots eagerly to your side as you head back to the elevator. Using your sword, you begin prying open the doors to the shaft. "I see you have been diligent in your studies and experimentation during my absence."
"Uh-huh.... I've peen practicing my Restoration and Destruction skills. I think I've made a decent impro- Master.... what are you trying to do?" She asks.
After struggling with the internal machinery that keeps the shaft sealed, you pause and look between the girl and the emergence release button on the wall behind her. "I refuse to waste ten minutes in a box when we can simply fly instead." Using Telekinesis, you depress the button without alerting her to your absentmindedness.
You hear her slap a hand to her forehead as you leap into the hole. "I should have thought of this." Her voice echoes from behind you. You give her a superior look, causing her to puff out her cheeks and pout. It doesn't take long for the two of you to reach your intended floor, startling a pair of young men who were waiting outside the doors as you emerge. Their alarmed shouts draw looks of confusion from all around, but you ignore them and lead your apprentice to the foundry.
"Has anything interesting happened while I was... indisposed?" You ask, threading your way through the hustle and bustle of working personnel.
You hear your apprentice squeak and turn to see her glaring at the back of an obviously lost man. "Blind idiot, who just runs around without watching where they're going?" She grumbles before remembering your question. "Oh, um... I'm not sure... After I healed a bunch of the commoners they wouldn't leave me alone. Cattleya made some crude jests that have me concerned that she's being corrupted and as for the other Heavies, Espin- Erm... I've mostly been avoiding them and practicing magic until that woman found me blowing up targets." She admits sheepishly, her cheeks flushing for some odd reason as you enter the foundry.
Gathered around a table in an adjacent office are Shen and Vahlen, various subordinates flitting about the main room between computers and swinging mechanical arms. Moira somehow manages to notice your arrival, despite the fact that she was looking the other way and the machinery is loud enough to drown out the noise of the doors. Waving you over, she motions for you to join them at the table, diagrams and measurements becoming visible on said table as you approach.
"Welcome back, I see you brought a guest." Raymond greets you, extending a hand to Louise with a gentle smile. "A pleasure to meet the lovely young lady everyone's talking about."
"I'd prefer if they would keep their opinions to themselves." She grumbles, gingerly placing a hand in his. You watch in amusement as your apprentice expects him to kiss her hand and gets vigorously shaken instead. Bewildered, Louise stares down at her arm when he releases it, clearly not understanding what just happened.
Doctor Vahlen impatiently taps at the table, drawing everyone's attention. "If we are done wasting time on pleasantries, I believe we had a reason for this meeting."
"Yes, you're correct... though it wouldn't hurt you if you tried to relax for a moment, young lady." Shen complains, sighing when the doctor stares at him with unblinking eyes. Even though her expression doesn't change, you get the distinct impression she's imagining something unpleasant for the old man. "Right... Cynric, Miss Valliere, if you would direct your attention here." He gestures to the diagrams on the table.
"Thanks to that fascinating serpent, we have been able to gather quite the assortment of alien technologies and materials in the aftermath of it's battles. Frankly, we're having more trouble transporting and storing it all than we are with the aliens themselves. Regardless of difficulties, however, our teams in research and engineering are working tirelessly to improve our understanding of the invaders' technology." Vahlen explains, eyes gleaming at the mention of the creature you conjured. "We've even increased our recruitment to help with the overflow of research projects."
Shen nods in agreement and lifts one of the diagrams. "Take our armor for example. Before the base was attacked, one of our teams had just finished production on a set of equipment that utilizes the scarce amounts of the aliens' unique alloys that we were able to salvage and another was designed when Miss Valliere here captured that UFO.Both are now completely obsolete. With our new surplus, we have enough material to refit every screw and bulkhead on base without hitting a shortage. We are also being forced to redesign many of our weapons systems and power sources as new discoveries are made faster than we can implement them." Comparing the one in his hands with one labeled 'Carapace armor' and another labeled 'Titan', you can easily see that the unnamed design in his hands is significantly larger. The size comparison between the suit and a basic human outline looks like a Bosmer trying to climb in a set of armor made for an above average Nord. "Rather than continually shuffle through new variants of armor systems, I've decided to simply design for the material's maximum theoretical protection and flexibility."
Both pause to look at at you and Vahlen sighs, "Which is where you come in. Raymond here can design all the armored shells he likes, but as I have told him before, we do not have the capability to manufacture his designs. The Power requirements are absurd and the weight of such a system is... prohibitive to say the least. It simply won't function without adding a specially designed motive system, which itself would require an advanced computing device and kinesthetic interface to allow the freedom of movement he desires. If you have any suggestions, I'm sure everyone would like to hear them, I would prefer to complete this project and return to other matters that require my attention."
Choose 1:
[] Implement dwemer automaton research.
[] Offer to enchant each suit with Feather to reduce weight, hopefully it will be enough.
[] Maybe the alien alloy is strong enough to withstand a daedric binding.
[] Refuse to help, they already have designs for good enough armor.
[] Write in.

[] Continue assisting Shen-
[] Weapons development.
[] Ship design.

[] Go see the Commander.

A/N: Can't put my finger on why, but this chapter was refusing to cooperate and I had to edit it a lot. I may have missed something. Oh and thanks to Carrie Weston, Louise has the idea for her explosions spell variant, but she hasn't tested it.
