CYOA subject appeared in Worm.
Prelude
This is my first fanfic, and honestly just something I am trying out. I might make mistakes as I am not sure how to do treads here. Don't expect consistent updates, college doesn't allow for that. I would like criticism, but be respectful about it please.

Waking up to the sounds of a dozen screaming voices is not something I would wish on anyone.

Opening my eyes, I realised two things. First, I had no eyes. That alone was weird, as I am pretty sure you need eyes to see. The second thing I noticed was that I was standing over what looked like a toy town. If the toy had little monsters running around in it, that is.

"What the..." is what I would've said if my mouth—do I have a mouth?—moved. Instead, I just stood unmoving. Suddenly, I had the distinct feeling of being dragged away from a computer screen, and my vision vanished.

The sudden blindness startled me, resulting in my trying to resist. It was then that I realised that I wasn't the only one there. In fact, it felt like there were quite a few people around, all trying to move the same body I was in.

I stopped struggling and began to pay attention. The shouting around me sounded weird. It wasn't sound; it was more like intent or emotion. I just 'knew' what they were thinking. Or something along those lines. I could also feel that I wasn't the only one doing this, as there were a few people seemingly staying on the sidelines.

I tried to talk to them, and, just like all the noise around me, instead of sound coming out, it was my intent. A few stayed silent, while the remaining responded.

[Query] ("What is happening?") I asked.

[Unknown] ("No idea") Most of them responded.

[Theory] [Query] ("I think I have an idea, but I need to ask a few questions first.") One answered.

I raised my eyebrow, or whatever the equivalent was here, at that. Nonetheless, I agreed to answer a few questions, as did a few of the others.

[Query] ("What is the last thing you remember?")

I frowned slightly and thought about it. The last thing I remember was playing around on my PC. Although I am pretty sure I wasn't playing any games, I can't remember what I was doing on the TV.

[Response] ("using my PC")
[Answer] ("Filling out something on my PC")
[Answer] [Uncertainty] ("I'm playing a game, I think.")
[Response] ("A CYOA")
[Answer] ("I was sitting behind my desk in my room.")

Hmm? All the answers are quite similar, which gives me deja vu.

As we answered, the shouting around us slowly decreased as people paid attention to what we were saying. A few even gave their own answers. Despite that, I can still feel the constant attempts to control the body.

The One Who Asked—I am calling him that now—sounded deep in thought after hearing our responses.

[Caution] [Dread] ("I see, I think I understand our situation, and it doesn't look good.")

I frown; that doesn't sound good at all. A few others seemed to think so as well, as some of the more violent ones began throwing around threats. The one who asked got annoyed and told him to shut up, and a few backed him up.

[Theory] [Connection] [Transfer]

Suddenly, I felt sick. My head hurt, as if someone threw my head into a blender. From the shouting around me, I can tell I am not the only one.

The headache subsided quickly, and what remained was a set of memories. How did I know it was memories? Because I can remember it now more clearly than before. The last thing we did before we appeared here

Yes, we. All of us realised that at that moment. We realise we were fucked.

The noise of questions and simple screaming could be heard all around me. Even the one who asked couldn't stop it. The only reason I didn't break down alongside everyone else was simply because I felt an annoying itch at my feet that wouldn't go away. It's even more annoying since I don't have feet.

I loudly groan. Ok, so it seems I woke up with the power set I chose from a CYOA. Fine, I can handle that. Of course, my luck would choose the most broken, in various ways, one of them all.

I can't remember the specifics; I'm pretty sure that's due to me picking to forget the plot for extra points, but I can remember enough of both the perks and drawbacks I chose for this one. A monster that can gain dozens of powers at once in exchange for a fragmented mind that goes Alien X on the body. Damn it all, and damn that itch!

[Anger] [Demand] [Nuisance] ("Can we all shut the hell up? This itch is getting painfully irritating, and you all aren't helping!") I shouted at the others. A few went quiet, a few others fired back, and the remaining ignored me.

A few minutes passed before everyone had become quiet, all of them feeling the same amount of irritation I felt.

[Annoyance] was the easiest way to sum up our collection thoughts.

The body seemed to move. We turned our heads and faced the source. Not the small man, but what was connected to him. A being that gave the man his power. A connection was formed. It tried to communicate; a few wanted to respond, but the majority ignored it and attacked.

The being tried to combat us, but it couldn't use most of its powers, while on the other hand, it was in a whole different dimension, allowing it to evade our attacks.

We learned and adapted. We aimed for the connection. We seized it, tore into it, and took control. The small man was on the ground, his creations unmoving like statues. We decided, we prepared, and new abilities were gained. New plans were formed. We commanded, the creatures obeyed, and they came. We analyzed them, absorbing the new data.

We analysed it, learned it, and understood it. We felt [disgust/indifference/amusement]. We swapped, shaped, and rebuilt.

We continued working, with a few problems appearing as we focused. We didn't even notice the hours passing.

As the last one was fixed, it was then that we fully took note of our actions, our coordination, our fluidity, and how we became one. And as we realised that, we slept.

Might add some people from the comments as part of this collective, having to act as multiple split personalities is troublesome.

Chapter 1
Emily Piggot has seen a lot of things. It's unsurprising, really, considering she works in the PRT alongside various capes. She has seen physics kicked aside and thrown to the corner too many times to be surprised by anything anymore. At least that's what she thought.

It was supposed to be a difficult mission. Defeat Nilbog and end this madness. Ignoring the fact that the man had overrun a town with the speed that he did and has been not only holding out but fighting back for over a week, it was rather obvious this wasn't going to be easy. It was painful, tiring, and goddamn terrifying. But she was a soldier, and a damn good one at that.

In the end, she was abandoned. The capes that were supposed to help them broke. They ran and doomed the rest of us. Most of the squad has been killed; only a handful of them remain.

She shouldered her assault rifle, keeping her hands on her teammates wounds to keep pressure on them, while Calvert grabbed the last bit of supplies they had. The others were either looking through the house for extra supplies or keeping watch. She doubted it would matter.

Emily wasn't stupid; they didn't stand a chance. HQ has probably declared them dead, and they weren't going to get any rescue. That didn't stop her.

She looked up to see Calvert handing her some clean bandages. She gave a brief nod and took it, using it to seal her teammates wound.

Suddenly, she heard a gasp. Turning, she saw one of the scouts looking out the window. Getting up, rifle in hand, she took a look outside and grimaced. It was a hoard of monsters, and they were coming right for them.

She immediately opened fire, and those who were able followed.

It didn't matter in the end.

For every one they shot down, two took their place. It was worse to know that even among the ones they killed, the corpses would be taken back to be material for new monsters. It wasn't long before their makeshift shelters were breached.

At that point, they moved. Retreat somewhere else, heal up, then repeat until they reach the barricade. That was the best plan they had, and they were planning to stick with it.

That was until the explosion happened.

A titan. There was nothing else that could be used to describe it. Well, no, there were quite a few: ugly for one, Bio Tinker's wet dream for another.

It stood over the town, unmoving like a statue. Its body is made of crystalline flesh. Its face is covered in a skin-like membrane, hiding it from view like some kind of twisted wedding veil. The buildings around it collapsed, their foundations destroyed by the sudden crater the creature made.

Everything seemed to just stop. Nobody seemed to have expected the titan, and who would? The damn thing appeared from thin air.

It was a tense minute, with both sides not sure what to do. The monsters looked confused, unsure whether to deal with the new threat or continue attacking the old one. Seeing this, she subtly signed up for her squad. They began to move away silently, the monsters not noticing until a minute later.

At this point, they were almost out, less than a mile away from the barricade.

She began to hope.

And the world laughed at her suffering as a sudden monster fell from the roof of a building. It glared at them, the beast being over 2 metres tall and humanoid with green skin and a pig head. A damn orc.

It roared in challenge, charging at them. They quickly responded, only to realise something in horror. They were out of ammo.

Emily decided that if God existed, he would hate her.

They dodged to the side, but considering that most of them were tired and wounded, it wasn't a surprise that some of them got hit. Considering her luck, she wasn't surprised to see that she was among the ones hit and thrown across the street.

She gave another roar, and damn, was it annoyingly loud, and she saw the beast preparing to pounce.

It charged, but was completely off. It crashed into a nearby car and stopped moving.

She stared for a solid second. Did the damn thing knock itself out? Considering the looks her teammates had, she wasn't the only one thinking that.

Deciding not to test this sudden luck, they helped each other up and hobbled away because, goddamn, his legs hurt.

When they were a good chunk away, did they notice the orc getting up and walking away, or, to be exact, walking towards the titan, who had moved slightly, its head tilting to look at a part of the town?

Considering the orc looked like it had been mastered, she assumed that the titan was looking at Nilbog. Or she was projecting. She really hoped it was the former.

Hours later, after having gone through multiple checks, she finally was briefed about what happened and what's going to happen.

The Titan, which is being called Goliath by the PRT, killed Nilbog. Targeted the bastards power source, the tumor like thing in the brain.

She personally thought that was why capes seem stupider that average but she kept that to herself.

After melting Nilbog's nonexistent brain, Goliath had mastered all the Nilbog's creations and had them gather around him, before a black smoke covered and transformed them back into all the people or animals used as material.

They were being sent to hospital, as it seems they are in a coma. Luckily, doctors and Thinkers alike believe that the coma was temporary.

Long story short, Nilbog had his brain melted, and everyone in the town that was transformed by Nilbog was turn back, and seemed to be in a temporary coma.

She needed a damn drink, now if only the doctors agree.

Chapter 2
Sleeping was a strange feeling, especially considering my condition.

There is no tiredness, just full wakefulness. When I try to fall asleep, it happens immediately, too. How much of that was due to my current mental state (heh, get it? Since I seem to be a mental construct), and how much was due to my powers?

Our powers.

Honestly, it's a little hard to imagine that we're all the same person, or at least were the same person.

A college boy named Ryan, 18 years old. Nothing special - no girlfriend, no best friend. Just acquaintances and faces in the crowd. The family wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing either.

All of us remember that, but for some, the memories may be a little fuzzier.

We don't really resemble Ryan at all. Some here see themselves as girls, some as boys. Some as kids, some as elderly, and everywhere in between.

In the end, it didn't really matter.

We were able to piece together the CYOA that we did, which gave us powers. As far as we can tell, it didn't bode well for us.

Frankly, the drawbacks outweigh the perks. Ten perks and forty-five disadvantages plus no skills, just what we already have, which isn't much.

Still, the perks were helpful. Blindspot, Riddle, Mental Barrier, and Undercover The first gives immunity to clairvoyance and prediction effects. The second was immunity to Thinker Analysis, and finally the Mental Barrier was Master Immunity. Undercover helped hide my immunities unless we told them or the powers were specifically used against us.

The most important perk we had was called "Negentropy" Limitless energy from nothing. This really helps us with our powers.

On the other hand, the disadvantages have also caused a lot of problems. For one, Case 53 makes us get stuck in our monstrous form. The curse of laziness makes our bodies sleep for 12 hours, otherwise our powers will be weakened. A shattered psyche that got us into this mess.

Fortunately, all wasn't lost. In return for all the suffering, we have powers. Strong powers. Thanks to an advantage, they have all merged into one, amplifying their power and making things even better than we had hoped.

First, the power that made us this giant is Cronus, a power that transforms us into Titans and removes the limits of our powers.

Second, with Higher Priest we can gain any power, having up to five strong 'main' powers, and we can choose what kind of power that is.

The third power is Aliena, which gives us a maximum of 125 weak powers or 17 medium powers.

And finally, the power that was used against the little man earlier, "[Query][Response]," the ability to communicate and exchange data with the beings behind the powers. It even allows me to change my power with additional data.

The last three are extremely powerful on their own. Together, they're terrifying. However, with Cronus, they have reached a whole new dimension by removing their limits.

Those weren't our only powers, but the others we have are basic passive powers, such as not being able to take more than a certain amount of damage at once (lasers aren't counted as a 'single' attack), as well as a regeneration power that heals us as long as we can maintain a connection to our power source.

We can even take on the powers of others around us, although the power is half as strong if we aren't in direct contact with the person.

Because of all these powers, I felt that personal safety was our least important concern. Instead, I'm more interested in how we proceed.

We could learn how to move. This requires majority approval of a goal or action. This doesn't mean that all heads must vote, but only that there are more supporters than opponents of the decision.

From then on, our minds are strengthened and much more interconnected, so that we can debate and vote on actions in less than a hundredth of a nanosecond. Even then, our actions aren't very smooth or sophisticated.

This isn't limited to our bodies; our powers are affected as well.

We can't choose a power without enough agreement. Some wanted more protection, others wanted to dominate the population and act as gods, and still others had other goals and reasons.

This is also the reason why we stopped after our struggle (if it can be called such). Granted, another reason was the sudden need for sleep, but that wasn't much different than what we'd have done afterwards anyway.

Currently, no one knows what to do. We can't remember much about this world, and it's not for lack of trying. In the CYOA, Ryan seems to have chosen a drawback that resulted in our not being able to remember the 'plot."

So everyone had a different idea of what to do. Some wanted to hide, others wanted to get more information.

That's why the arguments never stopped. Honestly, it's tiring. I can't even tell you how long it's been; time flies when you don't have access to your senses.

Now that it looks like we're not going to come to an agreement soon anyway, I might as well get some sleep.

I'd have done it if we all hadn't just noticed that we got some new powers. A new power like that meant that a person with a power nearby. But that wasn't the problem, no, it was what the power was.

It was a weaker version of our Higher Priest.

Immediately, everyone started arguing about what we should do. Some immediately decided to use force, while I and a few others wanted to get more information first.

The majority voted and gathering information won. Physically, the body didn't move, but our powers activated. We sent a probe to the source of the powers, to get a better picture of what was happening.

And we found a corpse. Mutilated and being drained.

We retreated immediately.

Cue the screaming of [Fear/Disgust/Confusion/Amusement]. Wait, what was that last one?

Not important.

Chapter 3
A week had passed since the walls were built around Ellisburg. "To contain the possible threat" is the official reason.

The real reason was fear.

David could understand where they were coming from. An Endbringer-sized creature (and it really looked like one too) suddenly appearing in the middle of a town would make anyone would think of the worst.

Luckily, all it did was fry the brain of a villain and preformed resurrection of all things. Honestly, he has no idea if that was a good thing or a bad thing.

Unsurprisingly, information was suppressed and kept under lock and key. Resurrecting the dead is not a power anyone has ever seen, and it has quite a few troubling implications.

Riots would form just so that the public could have their loved ones resurrected if they knew.

David frowned and thought.

Hero could be brought back.

He immediately shook his head. Even if it were possible, the closest thing they have seen to resurrecting was Butcher and the Fairy Queen, and that didn't exactly inspire hope.

Thinker Analysis was completely useless against Goliath. Even the people he resurrected had some kind of resistance; they were only able to get that the coma was temporary.

Even Contessa was having trouble. Another blindspot, except this was worst.

Paths were wrong.

It started with minor one, small plans happening in the background. We didn't even really take note of it until the path for the Slaughterhouse nine gave a result they didn't expect.

Goliath's anti-thinker effect was spreading. From what they knew, everyone and everything that came into contact with Goliath had a similar effect, although it went away with time. Hence the reason he was here, sitting on the wall.

If the anti-thinker effect is working on the nine, then they could be here. Cauldron couldn't allow Jack to get control over Goliath.

A few flybys didn't reveal them, but the nine were crafty. He was probably going to stay here for a few days unless an Endbringer attack occurred.

He was about to start another round when he noticed that Goliath had started moving. It turned and looked at him.

David froze, unsure what to do. Goliath hadn't moved at all since the last use of his powers. He immediately tapped into his power, gaining a danger sense. It was something that he used quite often in Endbringer battles, and because of that, there is quite a low charge remaining, but better safe than sorry.

One of his slots was already taken with a flight power; it was really slow. Hence, he didn't mind using it for something like this.

Goliath didn't continue moving instead of simply staring at him, but David felt like it was an invitation instead.

Deciding not to just go, he called Rebecca.

It only rang once before she picked up.

"David, what's wrong?" Rebecca asked, serious as always.

David made a complicated face and replied. "Goliath moved. It's looking at me."

Although he couldn't see her, he could almost feel her frown through the call.

"Should I approach?" he asked.

"Approach, but make sure you're able to escape at any moment," Rebecca replied. "I will be there in a few minutes."

David nodded, not that she could see it through the phone. He ended the call and began floating towards Goliath.

During the time it took to get there, he was cycling through his powers to find a simple teleportation power. If things get rough, he can always use it to get away.

Floating in front of Goliath, David suddenly realised he didn't know what to say. He was never a people person, and he was never briefed on what to do or say in a situation like this.

Hence the awkward silence.

David was wondering if he had made a mistake. He ultimately decided to start the conversation. The moment he opened his mouth, Goliath began speaking.

Although speaking wasn't really accurate, there was no mouth or movement, and the sound seemed to just appear from the surroundings. A shaker power?

"You who hold the Corpse of the High Priest, are you my enemy?" The voice was deep and sounded more like the rumbling of a storm than an actual voice.

Wait, High Priest? The Fairy Queen called him that as well. Is that going to be a trend? Wait a minute, corpse?

"I don't understand what you mean; what do you mean by the corpse of the High Priest?" David asked in a confused tone. Holds the corpse of the High Priest? He would remember if he was holding a corpse.

"From the broken corpse, you harvested and took what you didn't deserve. A power you cannot control," the voice rumbled.

Harvested corpse, oh

"Eden," David whispered softly.

The silence became uncomfortable as David wondered what Goliath knew, how much it knew, and how it knew.

The silence was broken by the sound of Rebecca flying in. She couldn't have flown here from Washington, so Doormaker probably helped bring her here.

"Eidolon," Rebecca said as she nodded. David only nodded back in greeting.

She turned to look at Goliath.

"Goliath, I am Alexandra. We do not mean any harm to you." A lie, but one told too many times.

"Yet another lie, piled upon the blood on your hands. Your heart has gone cold, a mere husk of what was." The voice rumbled, its words cold and cruel.

Rebecca frowned and tried to respond. Tried was the operative word as Goliath cut her off.

"Enough of your lies; we are tired of them. Leave, and know that we shall strike you down if you act on any of your foolish plans."

Goliath moved and waved its hand. As it did you, he could feel a powerful suction pulling him backwards. He blinked and found himself in the middle of the camp that was set up outside Ellisburg.

Rebecca was beside him, her face showing her shock and confusion.

David sighed. This was a problem.

People like Jack Slash or Tattletale would see straight through you.

Riddle

Cost: 1 SP

Cost: 5 CP

Incompatible: No Powers
Incompatible: Entity
You are resistant to human Thinker powers that get information using environmental data or what the Thinker already knows. Cherish's or Khepri's power would still work on you, but Tattletale's power would be difficult to focus on you, produce basic information, and be much more likely to produce incorrect information. With your permission, you can allow powers to read you.

Mental Barrier

Cost: 1 SP

Cost: 5 CP

Incompatible: No Powers
Incompatible: Entity
You are immune to any and all powers that would directly affect your mind, emotions, or senses.

Undercover

Cost: 2 SP

Cost: 2 CP

Incompatible: No Powers
Incompatible: Entity
People with mental or sensory powers will not notice your protections, immunities, or other perks that have no physical effect unless you tell them, or they attempt to use their power on you specifically.
They also cannot find you as a Blind Spot by looking for gaps in their powers.

Trumped the Trump

Cost: 5 SP

Incompatible: No Powers
Incompatible: Entity
Any powers and internal power supplies you possess cannot be drained, suppressed, weakened, stolen, copied, altered, controlled, reproduced, or otherwise manipulated against your will. Unless you will it to be otherwise, Trump powers do not work on you. You could even block certain aspects of power influencing you. Such as being given power and not being Mastered through it. You can be Mastered into consenting to a Trump working on you if you're not immune.
Paragon powers can trump this immunity under certain circumstances (specified in the power's description).

Powered Sustenance

Cost: 2 SP

Incompatible: No Powers
Incompatible: Entity
You no longer need to eat, drink water, breathe, or exercise as your Shard or Power will sustain your body for as long as it has energy.

Who Wants to Live Forever?

Cost: 5 SP

Incompatible: No Powers
Your ability to age can be altered whenever you want. You can make yourself younger or older whenever you want. You can also fake age as if you were growing up normally, although you wouldn't suffer the normal effects of old age.
This doesn't increase toughness or physical ability aside from protecting you from the frailty of age.

Negentropy

Cost: 8 SP

Cost: 3 CP

Incompatible: No Powers
Incompatible: Shardless
It somehow went unnoticed by the entities that your Shard had the ability they sought for eons: it defies entropy. Somehow your power allows you to defy entropy and uses this itself to keep it charged. You will never run out of energy. This is more or less useless unless you're either immortal or think you're capable of convincing the entity to leave behind all his other Shards, including Sting, and therefore not kill all humans in exchange for your Shard. A Shard without this perk may still have the ability to defy entropy, but you need to find it yourself because the Shard doesn't already know.

Manton protected

Cost: 5 SP

Cost: 10 CP

The inside of your body is protected against attack that attempt to target it. For example, a telekinetic cannot crush your heart inside of your chest.

You also gain some measure of resistance to esoteric attacks like instant death or erasure. This is not a complete immunity and will still hurt you, severely, but you will at least have a chance to survive.

Power Confluence

Cost: 3 SP

Incompatible: Entity
You no longer have multiple powers. Instead you possess a single power with the characteristics of all the powers you have selected. This harmonizes their effects, improving synergies and mitigating incompatibilities.

Drawbacks

Case 53

Gain: 5 SP

Gain: 5 CP

Incompatible: No Powers
Incompatible: Entity
You do not look human. How bad you look depends on your chosen appearance. If you chose Self-Insert or Insert you'll now be able to go back and choose your appearance. The more good-looking your appearance the more human and good-looking your appearance will be. On the other hand, if you chose ugly or disfigured, prepare to look like Noelle. Your appearance may also be based on a random one of the powers you chose.

Pint Sized

Gain: 5 SP

Gain: 5 CP

Required: Drop-In / Insert
Your body is aged down to somewhere between 6 and 12 years old. You will age normally but cannot use powers to age yourself up. Your physical abilities are reduced to match your age. Adults will not take you seriously and your independence will be severely limited.

"Odd"

Gain: 5 CP

Your outsider nature can be felt, and you get all the wrong kinds of attention. Expect to be treated poorly.

In One Ear...

Gain: 5 CP

You can't explain your powers to others. If you try to, no information is conveyed in the attempt, even if the explanation was a lie (speech sounds silent, writing doesn't appear on the page, etc). Others can come to their own conclusions on how your powers work just fine, although attempts to confirm or deny their theories fail as well.

Murphy

Gain: 5 CP

You seem to be a walking talking failure of basic security. Even if you consciously try, you tend to slip some kind of information about yourself. And whenever you do slip, somehow, it reaches the ears of those who might actually use that information. It's safe to say your enemies might know where you live, work, relax, and even the name of your pet poodle.

Disreputable

Gain: 3 CP

Incompatible: Reputable
You find it really difficult to gain a reputation.
Your accomplishments are often downplayed by others and people often credit successes to others and failures to you.

Unmasked

Gain: 3 CP

Incompatible: Cover Story
No matter what, you cannot keep your civilian identity secret. Perhaps your voice is recognized by a childhood friend and they tell everyone, or perhaps you're forced into revealing your identity to save someone's life. It doesn't matter how, but your civilian identity will be revealed one way or another within a month.

Wanted (Local): 1

Gain: 3 CP

Incompatible: Entity
You attract the interest of a local group (like the E88, ABB, etc.). They will either want to recruit you or eliminate you.

If you participate in dismantling that group, another will not appear. If you move locations you will inevitably attract the interest of another group.

Wildbow? Where have I heard that before?

Gain: 3 SP

Gain: 5 CP

You forget everything you know about Worm. Why? You had a chance to save everything! Stop the bloodshed, and save the multiverse! Well, there's still a chance if you got Backup that you'll save everyone, or that you'll be powerful enough to save everyone by chance. Please don't pick this without Backup, especially not if you chose to arrive on April 8th, 2011!

Monologue

Gain: 3 SP

Gain: 5 CP

You have a tendency to monologue. It's nothing overpowering, but if you don't actively go out of your way to not monologue, you're probably going to monologue after you feel you've won.

Slaughterhouse 8

Gain: 5 SP

Gain: 5 CP

Incompatible: No Powers
If the Slaughterhouse 9 has formed, they're after you. Not to kill you or torture you, no, something worse. They have a position open and they want to recruit you. If the Slaughterhouse 9 has yet to form, they will, and they will survive long enough to try to recruit you. If you don't have powers yet, they will only come after you once you've triggered.

Jaws of the Butcher

Gain: 5 SP

Gain: 5 CP

Incompatible: No Powers
For whatever reason, the Teeth (and consequently the Butcher) decide to move into your area. The teeth don't like you, but they won't actively try to hunt you down. The points from this drawback mainly come from the fact that regardless of whatever perks or powers you may possess, you are no longer immune to the possession aspect of the Butcher's unique powers. If you fuck up and kill the Butcher then you're stuck with the voices of all the previous Butchers who will slowly try to drive you insane if you don't agree to lead the Teeth. If the Butcher dies during an Endbringer fight then you may be possessed if you're the closest to the Butcher. For some reason, the Butcher will now feel possessed to attend every Endbringer fight.

Endbringer Target

Gain: 5 SP

Gain: 5 CP

Incompatible: End of the Kaiju
The first time you go to an Endbringer fight, the Endbringer will go slightly out of its way to kill you. Unless you show that you're very powerful, you won't be its main focus.

Ditz

Gain: 3 SP

Gain: 3 CP

Incompatible: Entity
Outside of battle, you're clumsy and forgetful. These can both be removed through your powers or through practice.

Inconsistent Minor Misfortune

Gain: 2 SP

Gain: 3 CP

When it comes to irrelevant, everyday inconveniences, you have terrible luck. You will stub your toe more frequently, often arrive at a stoplight just as it turns red, will never win at bingo, and experience other such frustrations.
This Drawback will wear off after 10 years.

Consistent Minor Misfortune

Gain: 3 SP

Gain: 2 CP

Required: Inconsistent Minor Misfortune
You are slightly less lucky in all aspects. This is a very subtle, very small decrease, but affects even combat. This effect is twice as potent if you have any Perks or Powers that increase your luck.
This Drawback will wear off after 10 years.

Sick

Gain: 5 CP

"Oh, I made a mistake. I accidentally forgot to protect your soul during the transfer and now you suffer from a form of soul sickness. No matters, it is only temporary for a week."

You now suffer from an incurable soul sickness for a week. While it won't kill you, it will make you want to rest your head for the week and not do anything.

Fallen Worship

Gain: 5 SP

Gain: 5 CP

The Fallen believe you to be one of the Endbringers, possibly not believing you've yet to receive whatever divine wisdom causes the Endbringers to destroy cities every couple of months. They will worship you and try to get you to act like the Endbringers. Even if you don't take this, they might still come to this conclusion.

Tinfoil Hat

Gain: 5 SP

Gain: 5 CP

No one will believe you if you tell them about the entity or Cauldron unless you show them definite proof or they already know about what you're telling them. (Stranger) Truth overpowers this drawback.

Insane

Incompatible: Entity
You gain a form of insanity. They can range from various forms of mental disorders to hallucinations.

(You can pick your insanity in the section below)

Cursed

Did you slight a Fae? Or try to trick a Devil? No matter what you have been cursed. This curse may take many form. (Chose one from the section below.)

Acclimation

Gain: 10 SP

Gain: 10 CP

Incompatible: No Powers
Incompatible: Entity
Your powers start out 50% weaker and grow over time to 200% of their base power.

Normally they will grow to 100% in six months and 200% in twelve months. The more you use your powers creatively the faster they will grow.

In the context of powers with multiple numerical values (i.e. number of charges and strength of charges) the product of all the values doubles. This means either one parameter doubles, two parameters increase by 1.4, three by 1.25, etc. (the n-th root of 2 for n parameters.) For frequencies, they are multiplied by the inverse. (2x becomes 1/2, etc.) You can choose which parameters are affected.

Jet Lag

Gain: 5 SP

Gain: 5 CP

Required: Acclimation
Your powers will start out 50% weaker and grow over time to 200% of their base power.

Normally they will grow to 100% in six months and 200% in twelve months, but instead they will grow to 100% after twelve months and 200% after twenty four months. The speed of this process cannot be increased.

Snail's Pace

Gain: 15 SP

Gain: 15 CP

Required: Jet Lag
Your powers will start out 50% weaker and grow over time to 200% of their base power.

Normally they will grow to 100% in six months and 200% in twelve months, but instead they will grow to 100% after sixty months and 200% after one hundred and twenty months. Through dedicated and varied training, you might be able to reduce the duration of this drawback by twelve months.

Second Wave Parahumans

Upon taking this drawback, the rate of triggers around your chosen world will increase by 0.1% per day until it reaches the new rate. The triggers have a lower activation threshold than standard triggers, closer to that of second-generation triggers. These parahumans can second trigger if they encounter a situation sufficiently similar situation to their first trigger.

There is a 5% chance of a Parahuman also becoming a Noctis Cape, a 2% chance they'll gain the Olympic perk, a 2% chance they'll gain Blind Spot, and a 1% chance they'll gain Mental Barrier. A Parahuman with Mental Barrier will have a 50% chance of also gaining Blind Spot. There is a 0.001% chance that Parahumans will gain Trumped the Trump.

Curse of Sloth

Gain: 20 SP

Gain: 10 CP

Incompatible: Noctis Cape
You are required to spend 50% of the day sleeping in order to recharge your powers. Going a few days without sleeping would weaken your powers, and finally a weak of not sleeping will stop your powers from working.

Another Self

Gain: 5 SP

Gain: 5 CP

You possess a second mind within your head that carries the same values and goals as you. They are usually agreeable to whatever your goal is. But usually how this is achieved can differ from how you want it to.

If you possess Mild Hallucination, they are just a voice in your head that you can control when to swap. If you possess Hallucinations you and them can sometimes swap between each other, you have to fight for control. If you possess Major hallucination you are the voice in their mind and they control when to swap.

Another Ego

Gain: 10 SP

Gain: 10 CP

You possess a second mind within your head that carries different values and goals from you. They may not carry agree to whatever you want to do and differ from you majorly.

If you possess Mild Hallucination, they are just a voice in your head that you can control when to swap. If you possess Hallucinations you and them can sometimes swap between each other, you have to fight for control. If you possess Major hallucination you are the voice in their mind and they control when to swap.

Hallucination

Gain: 5 SP

Gain: 5 CP

Incompatible: Mild Hallucination, Major Hallucination
You hallucinate and cannot differentiate your imagination from reality. You have moments of clarity. Your powers get stronger the lower your clarity is at any point in time. At your worst, your powers are twice as powerful. At your best, your powers are slightly stronger than described.

Fractured Psyche

Gain: 15 SP

Gain: 15 CP

Required: Mild Hallucination, Hallucination, Major Hallucination
Your consciousness and mental monologue are splintered: every skill, belief and desire now has a voice of its own. You will experience internal dialogue with various aspects of your own personality, each representing different thoughts, emotions, and impulses. These internal voices often clash, leading to inner turmoil and conflicting motivations.
Not everything is bad though. With time, you will come to learn more about your worldviews, ideologies, personality traits, and hobbies.
You can also internalize a total of 3 thoughts that can influence you internally, changing your skills and the way you interact with the world. You unlock additional slots as you grow and learn about yourself. With practice in some skills, you may even hear the voices of the world around you.

Vital

85% of these Parahumans will have 1 random power equivalent to those from the Tier-1 power section, 10% will have 2 random powers equivalent to those from the Tier-1 power section, 4.5% will have 3 random powers equivalent to those from the Tier-1 power section, and 0.5% will have 1 random power equivalent to those from the Tier-2 power section.

Rank 8

Gain: 25 SP

Gain: 25 CP

1 in 100'000 are parahumans
OR
340% more parahumans

Shard

Shard of the Wanderer

Cost: 5 CP

Cost: 5 SP

Your power comes from the Wanderer Entity.
+ Your power doesn't alter your personality or push you towards conflict.
+ You instinctively understand how to use your powers.
+ Your power start slightly stronger than describe and can grow in strength and potency over time if you push your limits.
+ Your power will back you up in a situation where you are incapacitated and are unable to continue fighting.
+ Your power has enough juice to last at least a few centuries of continuous use.

Vital

This Shard is considered important to the entity, and so will not discard it lightly. The entity would be hindered by the loss of this Shard.
You can choose Tier 2 and 3 powers.

Powers

Brute

Cost: 1 SP

You can access all your strength at any time, allowing you to perform feats that normally could only be done when on an adrenaline high. This can cause damage to your muscles and bones. You are guaranteed to heal correctly given enough time.

Brute/Breaker

Cost: 1 SP

You can enter into a state of hibernation at will. While hibernating your subconscious mind will keep watch for danger and wake you when you want it to, allowing your conscious mind to rest in an enhanced sleep. Hibernation is four times more effective than sleeping, allowing a full night's rest in just two hours.

Thinker/Master

Cost: 1 SP

You can set yourself under a Master effect to perform any task on autopilot, if you make a mental script for it beforehand. You can set any amount of protocols for any possible task. Quality of performance depends on the thoroughness of your script.

Brute/Thinker

Cost: 1 SP

Your sense of pain is replaced by a light, undistracting fizzy sensation, allowing you to operate at full capacity regardless of injuries. A different sensation like an itch will occur if what you're doing will exacerbate an existing injury.

(Brute) Ablation

Cost: 8 SP

You can only take so much damage at a time, regardless of how much damage you should be taking. The severity of damage is also reduced to a set amount. A single attack will gouge out a teaspoon of your flesh at most. Beams are not considered a single attack.

(Brute) Deadpool

Cost: 12 SP

As long as even a cell of you survives, you can regenerate from it. A cut will heal almost immediately. A severed head will take a while, and will regrow from the head. You can not use this power to create clones. If your Corona Pollenta and Corona Gemma are near-simultaneously hit by a power that heavily deals in and/or relies on portals and dimensional shenanigans, you will die.

(Breaker) Immune Response

Cost: 2 SP

You are highly resistant to all forms of poison, heat, electricity, and acid. You are totally immune to all forms of sickness and radiation. You are only moderately resistant to poisons that nullify your powers. You would die if you were on the surface of the sun for more than a couple of minutes. A lightning bolt would still mildly sting. A Tinkertech acid might still cause harm, if it's corrosive enough.

(Trump) Fae Court

Cost: 6 SP

You can copy a 50% weaker version of any Parahuman's powerset if they're within 150 meters of you. You keep this powerset for an hour after they leave you range.

(Trump) Copycat

Cost: 7 SP

When you touch a Parahuman, you receive a full-strength copy of their power for an hour.

(Trump) Immunity

Cost: 10 SP

After a power is directly used on you, you will become immune to it. This doesn't work on Thinker and Stranger powers. You can allow a power to be used on you if you consent.

(Brute/Breaker/Trump) Cronus

Cost: 20 SP

Titans are parahumans who have undergone a 'broken' second trigger, which results in their shard taking full agency over their body. You have dodged losing control of your body, but have still gained the ability to transform into a state were your shard is dominant and all of your powers lose their limits. Any powers you take are buffed to be at around the level an Endbringer's might be, and you have access to the full breadth of your shard.

(Trump) Eidolon

Cost: 20 SP

You have Eidolon's powers without the worthy opponent issue. You can have three somewhat-random powers that you can change at any time you want. These powers can be very powerful. You can switch out quality for quantity and have five weaker powers instead of three stronger ones. All powers take a couple of minutes to build up strength, though they're still usable before reaching full strength. You can still run out of energy with this power. You're a precognitive blindspot to everyone but the entity.

Negentropy increases your slots to five strong or nine weaker powers.

(Trump) Aliena

Cost: 20 SP

This power is the conceptual mirror to Eidolon, while he can have three strong powers, you can have 20-30 weak powers.

You have a total of 75 points to allocate to your powers. A single power cannot exceed 5 points. A power's point worth is roughly proportional to its potency which is roughly equal to it's rating plus one ('Thinker 0' costs 1 point, 'Blaster 4' costs 5 points, etc.). Powers with hybrid rating ('Mover/Stranger 3' or 'Mover 3, Stranger 1') tend to be rated higher than simple abilities but less than the sum of their parts. You cannot summon duplicate powers or powers too close to an existing power. Tinker and Trump powers have their own, stricter, summoning rules (left to the author).

It takes up to 90 seconds to summon a power and decreases exponentially for weaker powers. If a power is invalid (too powerful) the summon will fail once it reaches the maximum time. You can recall previously summoned powers for a fraction of the initial time and a multitasking power allows you to recall multiple at once. You can dismiss any power instantly. All effects dependent on those powers will stop when the ability is dismissed but lingering or permanent effects remain (like Tinkertech or body-alterations).

You're a precognitive blindspot to everyone but the entity. Negentropy increases your point capacity to 125 and maximum points per power to 7.

Fusions & Upgrades

Higher Priest

Cost: 8 SP

Required: (Trump) Eidolon
You can now directly influence the powers you get. It isn't as simple as just choosing the powers you want but you can place basic requirements such as 'it must be a laser power', or 'it must grant me a form of flight', or 'it must be a tinker power'. You can also hold onto powers for a longer period of time.

Point Converstion

+50 SP -100 CP

1

Gain: 50 SP

Cost: 100 CP

(Note that this is mostly a guideline, so stuff may be uses or effects the Mc in different ways then stated)

Chapter 4
Got the timeline wrong, fixed the members already.

God, that was cringy.

Why did we even need to do the whole 'I am an ancient all-knowing being' stuff anyway? It wasn't even accurate. The only reason we knew what we did was thanks to multiple analysis-based, post-cognitive, and mind-reading powers.

'Image' they said. 'It will help not alienate us' they said.

They don't get it.

We were already alienated. They were merely humans; we were a Titan, an immortal, and our power trumped theirs.

The High Priest was supposed to be the strongest 'Hero' of this world, and we were his greater.

Even when weakened to merely 50% of what our power should be, we had far more versatility and capability compared to him. What is 3 powers that only grow weaker, compared to us who can have 5 strong powers and 17 medium levelled powers? That isn't even including the fact that we are only gaining more [data], our power growing using it.

Nonetheless, the meeting gave us quite a bit of insight into this world.

Passengers, heroes and villains, even the land we stand on. But more importantly, Scion.

Entities, the true source of powers.

I desire that power. To be a true god and rule the lands. A rule uncontested.

They didn't understand that we were more than the weak fools around us and could be more than what we are.

We had the [Answer]. Limitless energy, the [Answer] that the entities desire.

From a life of mediocrity, we can be a god.

But I will bid my time; the Collective (we started calling ourselves that) has been swayed into acting as a protector.

It is foolish, but within an acceptable limit, for what is a god with no believers?

Well, they are a god with no believers.

Ehem.

After our chat with the two heroes, most of the Collective has been disgusted with their actions, some at the actions themselves and others (myself included) at how utterly ridiculous and stupid all their plans have been.

But they are humans. So shortsighted. I will do better.

The destruction of humanity may not affect me, but the destruction of this universe will. Getting contact with the precog within 'Cauldron' will be for the best. Gathering her [Data] will greatly enhance my capabilities.

Hmm?

Another vote. Hmm, not a bad choice. Not a bad combination; I better keep that in mind.

Well, there's no real reason to disagree.

Well, back to plotting.

I should gather followers among the Collective. Most were neutral, not having strong desires. If I can sway them to my side, my choices has a higher chance of being pushed through.

There are many within the Collective. Too many for my taste. Sadly, I cannot think of any method to eliminate them. At least, none that the others will accept.

Ugh, the votes are complete. I hate this feeling of being mushed together.

We selected the powers.

The world around us bloomed. The plants grew and shaped themselves.

The Tinker power gave us the blueprints, a specialty in renewable energy, climate tech, medicine, horticulture and agriculture and terraforming.

The Shaker power allowed us to grow the plants around us at a monstrous rate. We shaped that growth, turning it into the tech from the blueprints.

An idea was proposed, we thought, we accepted.

The earth shook.

In bend and shaped, it changed from dirt to stone. A new power was gained, new blueprints were gained.

Buildings were made, filled with technology utilising clean energy. Rebuilding and improving the infrastructure of the town of the destruction from Nilbog.

Time passed, as we slowly changed the land around us.

We silently noted the panicked response of the humans on the walls.

The walls were limited, an idea to destroy it was given and accepted. Plans shifted, demands were given, and shaped.

The walls fell slowly, and the master changed and used to improve the lands. A notice was made, and we moved.

Our body that stood in the city moved to its outer edge. With a wave, a stone throne was made. We sat and continued.

More time passed, when we registered an attack. All the glass within the area exploded. Additionally, something went into our feet.

The hostile was noted but designated as unimportant.

"Fight me!!!" Target one exclaimed.
Analysis was made, description of first target: Four legged beast, has traits of a bear and a panther, size of a small car, armor plates covering torso, scales at joints.

The second was near the opposite edge of the city.

Power analysis, analysing, complete. Creating counter measures. Scanning for remaining hostile. Scan complete, additional 8 targets spotted.

A warning was issued, 11 hours, 49 minutes and 56 seconds has passed since last sleep cycle.

Disagreement noted, connection destabilising.

Additionally data gained. Post-cognition insight shared.

[Anger/Amusement/Disgust/Interest]

Agreement met, powers shifted.

Objective: Destroy.

Targeting Host:Crawler, Host:Shatterbird. Atomic deconstruction.

Success.

Host:Crawler has be neutralised, Host:Shatterbird has be neutralised.

Redirecting focus.

Error, transmission noted. Ignored.

The earth shifted, forming into stone men. The stone broke away, revealing steel.

Designation: Servants

We were [Happy/Proud/Amused/Indifferent] of their name.

The servants marched, and attacked.

Transmission noted. Ignored.

Connection lost. Analysis. Confirmed, portion of the servants have melted.

We felt [Anger/Humiliation/Interest]. Continued attack.

Countering. Powers shifting. Repairs complete.

Transmission noted. Ignored. [Annoyance]

Physics bending attacks noted. Analysing. Target is a [Projection], locating Master. Location confirmed.

Transmission noted. Ignored. [Annoyance/Anger]

Power shifted, exotic material blueprints gained.

Steel broke away, replaced by exotic metals.

We are growing [Annoyed] at this Transmission.

Sub Objective chosen. Accepting transmission. Locating source. Confirmed.

We felt [Amusement/Annoyance] as we switched powers, noting that the servants were being pushed back by Host:Chuckles.

Targeting.

[Junk Data] Bomb sent. Successful. Host:Jack has temporarily been neutralised.

Spacial disturbances noted. Forceful stabilisation. Failure. Altering spacial data, warping, success.

Empowering target:Servants. Host:Hatchet Face has been neutralised.

We noticed Host:William Manton attempting to escape. We felt [Anger/Disappointed/Arrogant/Disgust].

The earth under him shifted, devouring him whole. Host: Host:William Manton has been neutralised.

We turned our attention. Host:Winter has been temporarily neutralised. Host:Crimson has been neutralised.

Warning, 11 hours, 57 minutes and 12 seconds has passed since last sleep cycle.

Host:Nyx attempting to recover Host:Jack.

Set automatic control to the Servants.

Entering sleep cycle.

♦ Topic: The Nine gone?
In: Boards ► Global ► BREAKING NEWS ►Capes

Posted On Feb 22nd, 2001 :

Greetings ladies and gentlemen, I bring you news from Ellisburg.

For those that don't know me, I am the Marvelous FarSight, Post Cog at your service. Country ranged clairvoyant, limited to only seeing the past, alongside an additional power to imprint my memories onto a piece of paper. Now, on to the news.

For context, as some may have heard, a cape named Nilbog tried to take over with his bio tinker (?) creations. PRT got called, and Nilbog stood his ground. At least until Goliath appeared. Not much details besides Nilbog got shat on.

Imagelink1, Imagelink2, Imagelink3

Yeah, a face only a mother could love.

After that, there was basically no action from the big guy. He just stood there.

That was until yesterday, when the Nine attacked Ellisburg. Why? No idea, there are barely any civilians here anyway.

Long story short? They got bodied.

She couldn't get a break, could she?

When she was told that she was being stationed back at Ellisburg, she was hopeful.

Sure, she'll be right beside Goliath, but the thing hasn't moved at all since its conversation with Eidolon and Alexandria. Before that, it hadn't even moved for over a week.

So she was hoping that this was going to be an easy job. She thought all she was going to do, was sit in her office and probably read a magazine or something. She could live with that, she has had enough excitement from Nilbog.

But no, of course, the moment she arrives here, Goliath starts moving. The plants around him start growing at visible speeds.

If that was all, it was still acceptable, but instead the plants started being changed.

She saw a few of those plants grow and intertwine with one another as the earth broke apart and formed into a giant house.

A few PRT officers decided to test their luck and take a quick scan of these houses. Results show that it was all tinkertech. Not just any tinkertech, but what seems to be a specialty, focusing on 'environmental friendliness' of all things.

As if people didn't need more reason to treat him as the new parahuman Jesus.

That was all the plants were doing, but the rest was mostly cosmetic. Trees are being formed, giving sidewalks some shade. Plants being made, giving wonderful aromas. Some of the officers even said that they looked like heaven.

Emily hated it.

Don't get her wrong; the fact that a good portion of it seemed to be biotinkering did press a few wrong buttons, but that wasn't the real problem. The real problem was that she was going to have to write a report about this. Just when she was preparing to relax.

But fine, she could still accept that. She swallowed down her pride and began working.

Just as she was halfway there, the nine appeared. How did she know? Her computer screen exploded in her face. The worst part? She was pretty sure the report she wrote was lost.

Emily was sure that if she could have triggered she would have done so right now.

She didn't even get to mobilise a squad before Hatchet Face and Chuckles appeared side-by-side in the PRT building.

Soon both Jack and the Siberian appeared, and most of the stationed Capes were down.

Then she got front-row seats to the absolute massacre that happened afterwards, and for once, the Nine were on the opposite end.

Shatterbird and Crawler were disintegrated, turned to dust, reduced to atoms. She saw them silently scream as they broke apart. Terrifying shit.

Jack fell, bleeding from every goddamn hole in his body and having a seizure.

Siberian just popped; she had no idea what happened there.

Winter, Crimson, Chuckles, and Hatchet Face were torn apart by the Red Knights.

And don't get her started on them.

She picked up the file about them.

Made of strange, exotic materials, the metal continuously produces an exothermic reaction. When acting on kinetic energy, exothermic reactions increase greatly. A swing of their sword is enough to light a sizeable flame.

Material releases an unknown gas. When gas comes into contact with open wounds, it causes said wounds to rot and fester. If the gas reacts with a flame, the flame will not be put out as long as it has biological material for fuel.

Intelligent, subservient to their creator. Protects the area from hostiles. Extremely violent when provoked.

As if she didn't need more of a damn reason to worry.

Where was her relaxation? What god did she piss off?

Chapter 6
[Request]

[Agreement]

[Unnecessary]

[Agreement]

[Agreement]

[Unnecessary]

...

[Request Accepted]

I opened my eyes.

I was on a beach, and the smell of the sea assaulted my senses. I looked at myself. I look like a scholar, dressed in a robe and wearing glasses. Fitting, I suppose.

I turned and looked around. There were dozens of people, all kinds of people.

An old man in a business suit with a rather mischievous face. A young woman wearing a sports bra and shorts. A child with red hair, his face full of childish naivety.

"Well, this is far more pleasant than I expected." The old man in the suit said this with a grin as he looked at himself. He was not wrong, as everyone seemed to agree.

"Still, it's a waste to delegate some of our power slots for this. We were already weakened as is." The young woman in gym clothes complained as she crossed her arms.

The red-haired child looked at her and retorted, "We were going insane as is; being completely deprived of our senses kind of does that."

I nodded in agreement. The inability to do anything was truly excruciating, and even if we slept for 12 hours, the remaining 12 hours seemed to stretch out in our boredom.

The young woman relented and let out a soft sigh.

"Ahem," said another person, a mature lady in regal garb, "I have a few questions about this arrangement."

Hearing this, I stepped forward.

"I was the one who created this power set, so if you have any questions, I will try to answer them to the best of my ability," I said with a small bow.

The mature lady raised her eyebrow and said, "You are The One Who Asked? Well, I suppose your appearance is appropriate." She turned fully towards me. "Well, first of all, how does this work, and what can we do?"

I smiled and began to explain.

"With this ability, we can create a... let us call it a mindscape, a physical representation of our mind. It allows us to enter and interact with aspects of our mind in ways that we ourselves should not be able to do. Strictly speaking, it should be at most the size of a medium-sized house, and the details of the inside should be extremely blurry."

Towards the end, I smiled nervously because I really did not understand why the area was larger than I expected.

Behind me, I heard a scoff, at which I turned to look. A white-haired boy in casual clothes was looking at me arrogantly. "The reason is obviously that our minds are much larger than the average one. Your calculations apply to the human mind; we are more than that."

I thought about it and nodded in agreement. That makes sense, and I can imagine how that would affect this area.

"And there you go again about how we are greater than humans again. You sound like some edgy kid going through puberty," said a gruff man, laughing. The boy frowned at his words, but decided not to retort.

"Well, let us talk about actual important issues." The mature woman said, "For example, about our plans."

"Thanks to the High Priest, we have been able to gather a considerable amount of knowledge about this world," the woman continued, "as well as about the nature of powers in general. Fortunately, thanks to the way our power works, we needn't be worried about having much influence, since we and the 'Passenger' have basically become one."

I shook my head. "If anything, the influence would be even greater because we have become one. The shards are parts of the Entities; they carry their will. It's possible that by fusing with the 'Passenger', we caused their will to be inherited by us."

Everyone then fell silent and slowly digested this information.

"God damn it!" the gruff man cursed, and I could see the agreement from the rest.

The red-haired boy shook his head. "It does not matter; our heads are too messed up to do anything about it anyway, so let us just focus on what we can do."

The young woman in gym clothes sighed and nodded, saying, "That's probably for the best. Honestly, I think we should focus on improving our environment. We should pretend to help others do a good PR stunt while, in reality, creating defences in case we need them. What do you guys think?"

Some thought about her idea, but some immediately rejected it. They thought it was a waste of time. This sparked a brief argument.

I sighed as I watched them argue. This will be problematic in the long run.

"While that's a good idea, I am actually more interested in collecting [Data]," said another person, an old man in a wheelchair. His gaze was focused as he continued, "[Data] gives us a more permanent improvement in comparison to our powers."

"And where can we get this [Data]?" Said the gruff man mockingly.

The old man frowned and replied, "From more parahumans, of course. Improving the environment may be a good PR stunt, but if we do the opposite, we may encourage new triggers."

Some at least made the effort to look scandalous next to those who actually are, but the rest thoroughly considered the old man's idea. Judging by their faces, they seemed interested in the idea.

A sudden "No" was heard. We turned and looked around.

A teenager with yellow-blond spiky hair and blue eyes and was wearing an orange and blue jacket with a white collar. He frowned and clenched his fist.

"You are basically going to torture people to make them trigger? Even disregarding the moral implications, you want to give us a kill order!?" The blond teen shouted, throwing his hands in the air. "People are obviously afraid of us; maybe Cauldron too, so if we do that, it will justify their actions."

At the memory of Cauldron, the onlookers' reactions varied between [disgust] and [angry] [annoyance].

The old man clenched his fist. "Alright, let us do the PR thing."

I smiled and said, "It's best to start now."

Chapter 7
Contessa watched, lost in thought, as Rebecca and Keith entered the room.

Doctor Mother sat to her right, looking at some files, while Number Man typed away on his laptop. Rebecca quickly joined them and sat in front of them. Keith sat down next to Rebecca.

Rebecca immediately turned to them. "Have you lost any more paths?"

Contessa frowned, nodded, and replied, "I have lost Butcher, Heartbreaker, the Fallen, and Glaistig Uaine." The others grimaced in response.

Number Man sighed: "This is getting out of hand. Goliath's influence is spreading. I do not have enough data to predict it, and you can't path it; it's an anomaly that's more trouble than it's worth."

Doctor Mother asked, "What has Goliath been seen doing recently? Has it tried to leave Ellisburg?"

Number Man answered her. "So far he has terraformed and rebuilt Ellisburg and stayed on his throne. Some civilians have already decided to return and stay there. Judging from the data, they are quite happy there."

The door opened, and David entered. "What did I miss?"

No one answered him; instead, Rebecca glared at him and said, "You are late; what were you doing?"

David raised his head and looked at Rebecca with a confused and somewhat annoyed look. Rebecca was glaring at him, and the others were looking at him. He was just about to open his mouth to say something when the Doctor Mother asked another question to Number Man about Goliath. David just sighed and sat down next to Keith.

"We have noticed several effects on the population of Ellisburg," Number Man explained, "including minor genetic improvements, an increase in natural talent, and an increase in fertility."

"Increase in fertility?" Doctor Mother asked, confused. David asked, "Are there any Master effects?" "None worth mentioning so far," Number Man replied.

"There are many possible outcomes from this," explained Doctor Mother. "Do you have any idea what Goliath's goal is?"

David thought for a moment. "Maybe Goliath is simply trying to create a better human race. He believes he can create an improved version of the human race, one that is more intelligent, healthier, and more... efficient than the current one. With that, he could create an army of super soldiers."

The others pondered this, but Number Man shook his head. "He already has the Red Knights for that. It would be a waste to do that for an army, especially since there's nothing stopping them from betraying him. Besides, while everyone there seems to be affected by the improvements, the first two are only particularly noticeable in children."

"Hmm..." David thought about what Number Man had said. "If he's not creating an army of super soldiers..." He paused, as if considering what else he could say. He sighed and continued his sentence. "What else could he do? I mean, surely he's not just improving the general population for no reason. He must be up to something. Something bad." A sense of worry came over David, and he felt uncomfortable about this whole situation.

Keith laughed, saying, "You know, it's not completely out of the question that he's just doing it to be nice."

No one replied back, but they all obviously did not believe it. They had seen or done too much to believe that such a powerful being would think that way.

Doctor Mother shook her head. "We do not have enough information to draw a conclusion, so we should focus on something else." She turned to Contessa and said, "You said the paths of Butcher, Heartbreaker, the Fallen, and Glaistig Uaine have disappeared; do we know their last whereabouts?"

Number Man called up some files on his laptop before answering, "Butcher was last seen in Boston yesterday. Heartbreaker is still in Canada, but one of his daughters escaped, after which he sent one of his other children to retrieve her. The Fallen were last seen gathering in Texas. Glaistig Uaine was last seen in Birdcage a week ago before she simply left."

"Left?" Keith asked with a raised eyebrow.

Contessa started a short path and told Keith, "The only reason she was in there in the first place was because she surrendered. Since we have placed violent criminals around her, it is unsurprising to know that her power has continued to grow. Trying to stop her will only do more damage anyway."

Keith calmed down and nodded sullenly. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Rebecca give her a quick nod.

"If Heartbreaker is still in Canada, why is he affected? Same with Butcher?" Rebecca asked, trying to change the subject. Contessa just shrugged carelessly and replied, "Maybe they plan to interact with Goliath in the future? At this point, anything is possible."

Rebecca frowned but nodded. Contessa hid a smile; the path was complete.

David groaned and wiped the smile from her face. He turned to Number Man. "Do you have any idea what they plan to do with Goliath?"

Number Man pulled out a few files before answering. "The Fallen is rather obvious, since they think he's a baby Endbringer. Butcher might think he can take over Goliath, as foolish as that sounds. Heartbreaker's daughter might think the same, or she might want his protection. And Glaistig Uaine's reasons could range from drinking tea to killing and absorbing him."

No one seemed satisfied with this answer. Although Cauldron's goal was to protect humanity, that did not change the fact that they were all pretty controlling. With a new variable that took away that sense of control, it became uncomfortable for everyone.

Doctor Mother sighed and asked Number Man. "The tinkertech it is making, is it really safe? What about maintenance?"

The Number Man shrugged. "Thinkers are useless at analysing his tech, but our best tinkers said it is safe. As for maintenance, we caught little bugs that would enter, fix stuff up, then turn to dust. Even then, it seems it takes an unusually high amount of time for the technology to degrade."

Everyone simply sat in silence to take in that knowledge. While it may be useful for creating homes in the way Goliath is doing it, it would also be just as useful to create tinkertech armies. There's a reason why self-replicating technology isn't allowed at all.

Rebecca sighed "I think we can stop for today; I have a board meeting to get to."

She got up and said "Door me to my office". A rectangular hole in reality appeared beside her, and she went in without any hesitation.

Seeing her leave, the others did so as well, including herself. They needed to prepare.

Chapter 8
Covid sucks. Have a chapter.

Emily stretched and heard her back pop from sitting on her desk all day. How some manage to do this is a question she will ask herself until the end of time. As she looked at the reports on her desk, she really wished she could burn it all.

It's been nearly two months since Goliath showed up, and Ellisburg is completely unrecognisable. A haven, as many are calling it.

Rogues are showing up from all over to set up shop here. Understandable, really. There was a Giant looking over them all; this is the safest place for new capes and even some older ones.

But that didn't mean she wasn't annoyed.

Emily sighed. At least they had come and registered properly. That was better than just showing up without any signs.

Glancing at the stack of papers, she groaned and continued working.

No matter how bad this was, it was honestly only slightly better than Nilbog. It's not like the PRT is doing anything other than administration as is anyway.

The various Rogues that have been appearing have changed the way capes are seen, at least around here. Especially considering that they are working together to help the community. Collaboration on this scale has never been seen before, especially since it looks like this will be a long-term thing.

Several directors were not happy about it. Shouting about threat ratings and other stuff, they were simply upset that the PRT had such a weak grip on this city and that their precious "Heroes" were not as popular as the unaffiliated Capes.

While she understood where they were coming from, even she could see that the situation was hopeless. Better to take what they could get and leave it as it was. It's not like they are planning for world domination. Hopefully.

A few hours later, with the hight of the stack of papers halved, she decided that she was done for the day. The sun was setting, and she was too tired to stay focused for any longer.

Getting up, Emily put on her coat and left the PRT building. She was feeling hungry, and she wanted a steak.

Walking on the street, she saw many people going about their day. Kids running around, dogs being walked. Honestly, considering how clean and aesthetically pleasing this place is, it looks like something straight out of a movie.

Although she did notice one thing, they were all happy. Sure, some to varying degrees, but all of them had a certain enjoyment that most don't in this new age of Parahumans.

She pushed open the restaurant door as she thought of that.

Ever since Parahumans appeared, there has never been a time of peace. No matter where you go, you always have to be wary of a Villain appearing and messing everything up. But here? Villains get killed faster than they can pop up.

She gave her order to the pretty waiter boy. She eyed the boy as he walked away. Nodding, she agreed with herself that the boy had a nice ass.

Thinking about Villains, she questioned if the PRT was doing things wrong. While the idea was fine, even nice, it was unfeasible. Heroes were glorified soldiers, no matter what people said. Bad soldiers, she corrected, remembering the fools that left her and her squad behind to save their sorry a-

"Excuse me, ma'am?" A voice woke her from her thoughts. She turned to see the pretty waiter boy looking at her with a worried face, her steak in front of her. "Are you ok, ma'am? Do you need anything?" The boy continued.

Emily shook her head and thanked the waiter. She should really stop daydreaming.

The steak was nice as usual.

She finished quickly and got up, leaving after she paid.

Once outside, she couldn't help but continue her thoughts from earlier. The PRT was unnecessary here. The Red Knights patrolled and kept the peace better than they ever could. The free housing and food that Goliath had given back to the citizens of Ellisburg gave him a lot of good rep.

Here, heroes aren't needed at all in any way.

She smiled at the thought. At least things seem to be looking up. The world is shit but the fact that the people here are safe enough to not need heroes, even if this is almost like the land of a Warlord, is never a bad thing.

She reached home and went in, shivering from the change in temperature. Did she leave her air conditioner on?

Walking into her living room, she froze. Inside was Glaistig Uaine. The Fairy Queen and the only cape to have escaped Birdcage. And she was sitting on her couch with a ghost serving her tea.

Of course, that wasn't all; the world isn't that kind after all. In front of Glaistig Uaine was someone she could recognise easily, albeit a far smaller version. Goliath, in all of his monstrous glory.

She shed a silent tear, cursing all that was divine and not.

They turned to look at her. The silence seemed to stretch.

She had a smart idea. She smiled the brightest damn smile she has given her whole life. Then she turned around and left, slamming the door as she ran out of the house.

Yes, the house. It's not her house anymore. Fuck that. Fuck this. Let them do whatever, be it kill each other or get kids; she doesn't care.

She is going to call this in because she is a good soldier, then ignore everything else, go to a bar, and get wasted. Maybe find a hot guy and release some stress.

Yeah, that's a great plan.

Fuck capes; they are the cause of all her damn problems. She almost wished she had a Corona Pollentia, just because she was sure she would trigger and then she could spread her misery.

Huh, was that how villains felt? She hates that she could relate.
