I'm not making something with the emotional and mental development equivalent to a child into a shikigami, besides we don't know it's effects for all we know it could stunt her soul development.

To be honest, that's not really a consideration. The consideration for not making her a Shikigami is "She's still young, and I could probably get something stronger anyway so I don't want to waste my energy contracting her"

One of the considerations for making her a Shikigami is that it'll increase her spiritual strength and potentially give her unique abilities. It's also not like we're imposing a master-slave contract either here--one of our priorities is learning more about the world too. For all intents and purposes, we'd be coming at this as more-or-less equals, which I consider a lot less skeevy than if we were some matured wizard pouncing on a child.

I don't care about "Oh we might be able to get something stronger later". We've got a solid chance of getting a little sister here! Why shouldn't we jump at the opportunity?

Power can go stuff itself, I like characters far more!

i mean it's not like we can't social her without a soul link or somethin?

Even if Callie isn't the most compatible shikigami,it seems like she's going to be a very valuable party member considering her stealth and technological abilities as an assassin droid. So that's good reason to buff her up with magic as well.
Also, @shibosho, can we have more than one contracted shikigami? If so, having more than one might be a slight opportunity cost but also a wider range of available abilities.

We can, yes, but that still leads to the fact that it might not necessarily foster her growth very much. She was not designed at all to be a sapient lifeform with a soul. That she got one anyway is a small miracle--but she's going to be running into the problem that is " a machine is a very shitty vessel for fostering the development of a soul|, she's not a shifter like the other guy is, she's naturally designed as a mechanoid from the ground up. It might happen, but it normally takes the better part of centuries for an object to acquire a spirit and sapience in their own right--she got it pretty much from activation--that kind of thing is only rarely stable mythologically speaking, and usually leads to tragedy when it happens anyway.

Giving her the Contract gives her fuel needed to foster her growth properly, because it's being provided from the outside. It covers for the whole "Not being built as a living being, and thus, not designed to properly foster development of a mature spirit" issue by giving her energy from us.

That's the theory anyway.

Like I said, if we were some older and more mature wizard, I'd be more against this. We'd have more options in that case though. We're barely more mature than she is though, and one of our priorities is to learn about life. We'll have influence here--yes--but a Contracted Shikigami is not a slave--and she'll have influence right back as we can grow as people together.

I made the "Imouto Get!" Joke, but it's not actually inaccurate in this case.

Yes, you can have more than one contracted shikigami. It's simply a matter of whether or not you'll be able to properly manage a number of contracted shikigami all at once.

Master Airi has a number of contracted Shikigami but due to her longtime partnership with them, she gets a good deal of leeway in managing her social links.

If she's not actually suited to being a Shikigami I see no reason to turn her into one.

No reason we couldn't try and contact her later if we feel like it.

Not interested, I mean an onmyouji with a mecha shikigami? Really? I want my demons and spirit monsters.

I don't really care about powerlevel considerations but since Haruto doesn't seem like a shitbag, I'm going to assume he wouldn't make such an enourmous, life changing decision for her. I'd rather revisit it when she has the capacity to give informed consent.

It helps her. Worse case we can not have her fight until she's ready, but this helps her grow.

We must nourish her soul and identity. We'll grow together.

Also we need to learn some crafting for our stuff anyway it seems.
