You took a wrong turn someone, went too deep into the woods, followed someone who you thought...
A New Alice

somewhatLazy

Serial Procrastinator
Location
lurking
You took a wrong turn someone, went too deep into the woods, followed someone who you thought was your father, just never woke up... all these, perhaps they're why you're here? You can't truly remember, anyways. You should have paid more attention to these rumors of murder and darkness. You should have been nicer to your friends. You should have said goodbye to your mother. All these questions, all these could-have-beens, the things that you never did. They plague your mind like a locust swarm.

You're walking on a grassy meadow, full of flowers and bushes lining the edges. There's only stars (painted, a part of you notes) below you. The clock far above your head tocks, as its hands finally reach equinox. A bronze and false sun floats above you, moving to its assigned position. Its light does not seem to truly illuminate. Rabbits white as snow run about in the underbush. Sixteen closed doors line the path you walk. Each of them is a different and beautiful color. The greatest door large and iron, as tall as ten of you and at the end of the path. Fish are engraved on it, falling downwards. An elaborately-dressed man with comically exaggerated whiskers stands stiffly before the gate, spear held ready.

This has to be a nightmare.

What is your Trump?
[] Heart. It's beautiful spring when you left, and you still feel so innocent. {spring: ???}
[] Club.
Summer beat down on your brows, leaving you hot and free. {summer: ???}
[] Diamond.
Fall was always beautiful, even if the leaves died and fell off. {autumn: ???}
[] Spade.
Snow rarely fell where you lived, but you still dreamt of the possibility. {winter: ???}

Who are you, Alice?
[] Pride. A would-be scholar on the supernatural. You tried to pretend that you knew what was behind the workings of the world. You should be happy now, you found it! {less damage dealt when you lose a minor and major contract}
[] Gluttony.
You always got everything you wanted. If you want, you can be queen here. {gain success streak: increased rewards for succeeding once you succeed at least twice in a row, streak ends if you fail}
[] Envy.
You don't really think your life is a success, as you lay friendless and poor. But here, you'll never have to worry about anything again! {once per game see next opponent card}
[] Lust.
Life is so boring and ordinary. The two of you wish you were a hero. And here, you can. {twice per game, draw two cards instead of one on your turn, and use the better one}
[] Greed.
Something's wrong with you. Why can't you be like other people? Everyone's just like you here. {increased rewards for succeeding on minor and major contracts}
[] Sloth.
You've always had a way with people. So how did you mess up so badly? It's your fault your friend's dead. Here, you're alone, with no chance to ruin anyone's life. {increased rewards for minor and major contracts, increased punishment for dreamlike contracts}
[] Wrath.
You hate him. How dare he do that to mother? If he wasn't in jail, you would kill him. You can forget about him here, don't worry. {once per game automatically succeed on a minor contract, opponent still draws and loses a card}

Rules
Rules

One of the suits is your Trump suit. You, the other Alices, and some powerful inhabitants of the dream lands have these. Most random mooks don't. Trump cards automatically win over regular cards, and regular cards the larger number wins. Two different Trumps meeting each other would become regular cards. Ace is the highest card, with King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, and so on.

Say that Spade is your trump. Spade 6 would win over Diamond 10. However, if it is not, Diamond 10 would win as it is the largest.

When in a fight or challenge with someone or something who can actively resist what you're doing or change, the fight is named a Game. Both you and the person you're fighting against have different decks to draw from. You pick a Contract on your turn, and, if you win, gain a reward. If you fail, gain a punishment. The more powerful your Contract is, the larger the reward and punishment. From least to highest, the contracts are Minor, Major, and Dreamlike.

In a hat-making contest with a hatmaker, you pick a Minor contract and win. You create a decentish hat while he hasn't finished with his yet. Emboldened, you pick a Major one, and lose. Your hat's just decent, but his is stylish. He gloats. You then pick a Dreamlike contract, and win. So what if his hat's stylish, it's not as stylish as yours! He stops gloating, and tries to claim that was beginner's luck.

Minor contracts represent minor gains, like defending yourself from an attack before nicking your opponent. You might do well enough to not fail on them, and injure your opponent's chance of winning. Major contracts represent more substantial gains, like wounding your opponent more noticeably. Dreamlike contracts are serious injuries, such as managing to cut off your enemy's arm.

The more you succeed on in your draw (a Ace vs. a 2), the larger the contract reward is. The contract type is the bounds the reward falls within.

When going against a static, unchanging, goal, such as picking a lock, you have a concrete number which you have to meet or exceed. Trumps do not work in this.

You can also gain powers to improve your chances of survival. These are named Jesters, and have both positive and negative variants. Your actions exploring Wonderland can obtain some. Dreamlike contracts can result in a positive or negative jester in success or failure, as well.

At the start of the game, you can choose two Jesters--Jester [sin] and Jester [season]. Sin is a personality Jester, which represents a major facet of your personality, and which you can gain from actions demonstrating what your personality is like. Season is a society Jester, which represents how people think of you. You can gain them from making allies or enemies of certain people and organizations, or unknowingly gain them from what you are and do. These aren't the only way you can gain Jesters, of course.

You who are you
Statistics
Name: Gail Alexander
Age: 16
Occupation: High School Student Suspected Arsonist
Blood Type: A
Trump: Spade
Your ordinary life
It was an accident, you swear. You didn't mean to start a fire near the school. It was just that the flickering of the flame, the smell as it slowly burned... that was so fascinating. So beautiful. So relaxing. An ocean of calm, in a chaotic life. You tried to stop at times, but sooner or later, you would be drawn back.

And then it got noticed. Investigated. Another incident in the town where the Alice killer lived. Was that him, people asked? Who could do this? Why? Your life would be ruined if anyone found out.

It's not as if you were in a troubled life or anything. Well, maybe your younger brother was getting all the attention. Your life wasn't horrible, like some may think. You had a comfortable middle class existence, and the only problem was those killings elsewhere. You were scared, but it seemed almost distant at times. It's not like anything so exciting or dangerous would come to you and your family, would it?
Jesters
Greed: increased rewards for succeeding on minor and major contracts.
Winter: ???

Wel, this is very interresting. Lately I have been putting thought in an Alice in wonderland setting and this an interresting setting with an interresting main mechanic.
Weirdly enough, Pride was the only male character in my head. One of the Lust twins is a boy, but they don't count, since they're lumped together anyways. However, there's no canon genders yet, so yes, Pride could be a girl.
So there are multiple alices and each Sin is differant character? Huh

[X] Spade
[X] Greed

Although the fact lust is twins is interresting, Greed is the most attractive mechanic and interresting character to me.

[x] Diamond. Fall was always beautiful, even if the leaves died and fell off. {autumn: ???}

So are these votes being counted by individual vote or by plan?
Counted by individual vote, as the main difference between the Trumps is a slight alteration to your personality and different relationships with some NPCs.
should probably be "An." Anyways, looking forward to this!
Thanks for catching that! And yeah, I'm looking forward to this too. Here's hoping that my first quest goes well!
Another Bridge player? Interesting
My dad plays Bridge with robots on his computer. Sometimes, when I was younger, I would sit near him and count the number of cards he had--I think I counted the royal family, with Jacks being 1, Queens being 2, Kings 3, and Aces 4, to decide which would be his Trump or if he would do it on his own. Then I'd watch him play. We played in person with dad and mom at times, and one of us would be the fourth player.

Thanks for all your votes! I'm going to do a vote tally now.

Inserted tally. Looks like Spade and Greed win.

So, spade with greed if I read the vote right?

Edit: Also, I never played bridge and I have trouble understanding the rules. If I understand the system correctly, if we are doing something opposed we draw from a deck for that round and if we play a higher number then our opponent we win and we can gain new cards, as in sin and season cards.
