Well that's all the better reason to make them reflect on their future actions, I mean we are a teacher and we just gonna let them be? And how do you know we wouldn't prevent these students from 'doing bad things' with that speech? We won't know if we don't try, not trying is worse actually, we are the strongest yeah, we can stop them but change their ideology is better than constantly handling them and I'm a little bit confused... How is it pretentious when its stating facts?
Assuming we are the only one that can see their titles then why did the headmaster put three normal guys in a 'special' class? They are a lot of protagonists that start with a supernatural background.
Even if they don't a lot of bizarre statement that was given to the protagonists will only make sense to him later in the story, usually with a flashback, this is a common trope.

Right......A speech from a total stranger is going to convince a serial killer to stop killing. I'm not saying we shouldn't try to help them become better people, I just want to know each student a bit more before we start with the inspirational speeches.

Every teacher at the start is a total stranger, and words when they makes sense have much more weight even from a stranger, you keep arguing but do you have a better proposal? Better than looking like a jester in front of our students? the roll call is good straight to business, I'm not against that.

There was nothing that said that they were normal. Heck, just because you look normal doesn't mean you are normal.
But they usually try to get to know you first. Try to connect with you. I have never met a teacher that goes off on a tangent on how to live your life at the beginning of the school year. Hell, how do we even know if the students are going to respect us in the beginning? We know of a fact that they are the trouble makers. There's a good chance that at least some of them will have no respect for a higher authority and just brush off our words. Be comidical and down to earth will help break the ice and ensure that the student see us as more than a person that just there to teach them boring stuff.

I'm just saying that just because we're funny doesn't mean we would make a bad example. Also, teachers that tend to be funny tend to be more well received by their students. Being funny doesn't mean we're immature or unprofessional. Hell, sometimes, unorthodox teachers that are down to earth tend to be the best ones.Why? Those teachers usually end up being friends.

I think a jester kind of person is the ominous one usually with something they hide about themselves, its a common trope in Japanese culture.
While the wise, calm, intelligent, inspirational one is the protagonist's 'sensei' is the common trope
We are here to educate foremost(for troublesome students) then teach(the main purpose, give knowledge to the students) then befriend, a teacher's priorities are usually like that
the headmaster was confident in us teaching in the school so let's not ruin his expectation by starting to joke around the class.

Also, this trope is so prevalent in amine that a SUBPAGE had to be created, due to the sheer amount of it.
Part of the trope literally says 'Hidden Badass'.

All, and I do mean ALL of my teachers crack a joke or two in class. Because of that, there isn't a single teacher that everyone hates. Sure, there's a couple that most dislike due to their strict policies, and even they have their enduring moments. By your logic, they should have been fired ages ago, yet they are still here. Yes, we should take our job seriously. Being serious so the students don't mess around? Sure. The fact that you wanted to set up the PC the way you described is also fine. However, if we're going to be serious in-class, how are we going to show our friendly side? Really, since I'm wondering how we're going to interact with our students outside of class. Also, being funny for our introduction isn't going to hurt anything. We can still be serious about our job. Being comical with our introduction will allow the student see the more friendly side of us. It makes us more approachable, and allow us to interact with them outside the classroom, therefore giving us the chance be be friendly outside of the classroom like you wanted. Skipping straight to the roll call just makes me think of a certain history teacher from Hogwarts.
