[X] The Garrison – Alaina says she wants you to meet her mother, and that she can normally be found drilling the men and women who make up Linderin's armies, making sure that they're capable of keeping the peace if something were to happen.
"Would you like to meet my mum?" Alaina asks you as you gobble down some bacon. Raising you head, you chirp questioningly at her. "She's normally down at the garrison in the mornings, but we have to be sneaky!" The last word is said in a stage whisper, and you can almost hear Laurel rolling her eyes from where she sits, eating her own breakfast at a much more sedately than either you or Alaina
"She might be busy, Alaina. Perhaps we should wait for lunchtime before we seek her out?"
"What time is it?"
Laurel frowned in thought briefly, "… Just after 8th bell."
"Then she should just be getting to the end of the morning training!" Alaina grinned, hefting you into her arms and making for the door.
Laurel quirked an eyebrow, but made no comment of this as she finished her bite of breakfast and got to her feet. "Come on then, let us go and say hello to the Queen." She said as she followed after you.
"Yay!" Was all Alaina replied with as she began to lead the way down through the castle, making her way through areas and corridors you'd never seen before. Looking around, you think you could probably still find your way to the throne room by following the lines of magic which lace through the stone.
---
Eventually, you find yourself entering a large courtyard, before you, a large group of soldiers are marching around the courtyard in formation, while a woman with a very loud voice barks orders at them. Lightly wrapping your tail around Alaina's neck for balance, you hunker down on her shoulder as she settles into a surprisingly smooth sneaking crouch.
Looking around, you see Laurel exchanging a look of bemused exasperation with a guard who is rather convincingly pretending not to notice Alaina as she makes a beeline across the courtyard towards the woman barking orders. As you approach, you see her shout a dismissal at the assembled troops, causing them all to break formation as she looks over them with her hands on her hips.
Wis-Test – Difficulty 6 (5 +1 (She hides it well)) Rolled 4,3, No successes, Failure.
You don't think she knows you're there. When Alaina's in range, she bolts forward, causing you to hunker down on her shoulder again as you almost yelp in surprise. Leaping forward, it seems she intends to jump onto this woman's back.
However, at the last second, the woman turns, and eyes bright and grinning, she catches Alaina in her arms, swinging you both around and around until you begin to feel a little dizzy. As the woman, Alaina's mother, you presume, sets her down, Laurel, who had come up behind you quietly, gently scoops you off for Alaina's shoulder as you totter and sway, and places you on her own shoulder to recover as Alaina's mother begins to tickle her daughter, sending the latter collapsing into fit of giggles.
Hefting a breathless and giggling Alaina into her arms, the woman, looks up, and you see a striking similarity between her and Alaina's faces. She smiles at you both, and you feel Laurel shift into a curtsy beneath you.
"None of that, Laurel." The woman says, her voice quieter than when she was bellowing orders just a minute ago, but still a bit gruff. "You look after my daughter every day, I think that entitles you to a little informality." She grins, and Laurel blushes, murmuring an apology as she straightens up.
"And you, you little beansprout? Has Laurel been taking good care of you?" the woman asks Alaina, who nods, still somewhat breathless. Before finally, the woman's ice blue eyes shift to you, and you almost feel the power roiling off her body as she inspects you.
"And this must be Neptune." She says, striding closer, and making you feel small by her sheer presence, "Markus has told me all about you. I was wondering when I would get the chance to meet you." As her mouth splits into a wide grin, the intimidating presence dissipates, and she offers you a finger to shake.
"It's good to meet you at last, Little Neptune, my name is Delia. I hope my daughter has been treating you well?"
