Chapter 1: Distractions
You've often been called kind of a ditz. Eh. That's probably fair. Nothing has ever held your attention for very long.

"Miss."

Really, you've wondered a couple times if something was wrong with you. It's not like nothing bad ever happened to you on the streets but...

"Miss."

Things have always just sort of rolled off of you you guess? Compared to other street kids you've known. You guess you get why they were always so serious what with getting a beating from guards after getting caught stealing, and going hungry on long nights, and being cold in the streets in the winter...

"Miss Spireling."

You twitch your fingers, mumbling under your breath as you rub your lucky platinum piece. Heh. You would giggle like you always do when you think of it, but that would interrupt. It had been so worth the beating for 'losing' the prize of that wizard's purse. It was just so pretty and shiny. It didn't tarnish like your silver coin did. That one hadn't been so lucky. Right about...

"Miss Spireling!" You can almost feel the maid's hand reaching for your shoulder before an image of a roaring dragon spewing flame appears behind you. She shrieks. This time you do giggle, turning around with a bright smile on your face. The maid's half fallen onto your bed and has dropped what looks like a pile of clothes in her fright.

"Sorry, sorry!" You say lightly as you reach down and pick up the clothes. "It's just I thought it would be really funny, so I had to do it, ya know? And besides," you say, leaning forward and putting on a mock stern expression, "I told you! It's not Miss or Miss Spireling. It's Flower. Okay? Ya got that this time?"

The maid, she had refused to give her name to you as some kind of professionalism thing or something? Or maybe that was bull and she just didn't like you? Or... You shake your head to try and focus. By the time you work yourself out of your thought tangent she's straightened up and managed to put the mask of 'respectful servant' back on over 'irritated teenager not getting paid enough for this shit'. Too bad really. The second one was more fun.

"Miss Flower." She says, giving you a look that says you're not getting better than that. "This is your official academy uniform. Lady Stormpoint has requested that you get changed into it and then walk to the auditorium she showed you yesterday." She waits, obviously expecting some kind of argument. Much as that would be fun... Even you can realize that being late on the first day would probably be bad.

"Sure, sure," you say, flapping a hand casually at her before carelessly tossing your clothes onto your bed. Well, not your bed anymore. The bed you had slept in for a couple of weeks that was really nice and soft and you were actually going to miss a lot now that you thought about it.

...How hard would it be to steal the bed? You could probably manage the pillows and sheets pretty easily, and the comforter wouldn't be too much harder. You glance up at the maid already retreating out the door, fixing her uniform in your mind's eye. As she quietly eases the door closed you smirk at her. She shuts the door faster. With a wave of your hand and some more mumbling your clothes becomes an exact copy of hers. You look into the big mirror near your door. You think you pulled it off. Your slightly past shoulder length blonde hair, now that it had been washed with all sorts of flowery smelling things looked like it fit with the maid outfit, and your bright green eyes and somewhat pale skin didn't stand out like a lot of wizards seemed to. You could totally pass for a maid. Hrmm. You had to consider that they might lock you out of this room after you left for orientation, so you needed to grab them now before that could happen. But you didn't know where you were going to be rooming. Uhg, this was so complicated.

You dismiss your maid outfit illusion and start changing into the uniform as you think. It involved a long sort of yellowish skirt, a white undershirt, and some kind of blue jacket thing? It was a bit impractical, but you sort of enjoyed that. You've never had a chance to wear skirts before.
---
Normally the halls of the academy, practically made of windows providing majestic views of the city of Steps would take up your somewhat limited attention span. At the moment, you're more concerned with the pile of blankets and pillows in your arms, and where to dump them on your way to the orientation. You eye every doorway speculatively, wondering if any of them are a storage closet or something. At the moment you look just like any maid at the academy, and you guess everyone assumes you're doing something important because your arms are full, cuz no one has bothered you. That part of the plan has worked well, but the issue is that you've only got like half an hour before the orientation starts, which is not much time to find a good hiding spot for all this stuff.

During Flower's Blanket Heist, who does she run into?
[] Another girl that looks like she's from the streets or something. Or at least, she's got like, five scars crisscrossing her face, and you're about a thousand percent sure she has a bunch more under her uniform. Hers has pants instead of a skirt and you're pretty sure you can guess why. The point is, she walks like she thinks someone is gonna attack her any second, and that's exactly the paranoia experience has taught you to recruit for things like this.

[] A girl with a super cool sword. It's so awesome! You want it. Or to like, stare at it a bunch and chop things in half with it. The point is, blankets are cool, but begging to play with that sword is way cooler. Sure the girl attached to the sword looks like super serious or whatever, but you know that type. You can totally work your way into her good graces. Probably. Well if she hates you can just go back to your blankets. And then steal her sword later to play with it.

[] A girl who looks lost. Or at least like she's looking for something just like you are. Or possibly the auditorium for orientation, but you assume she's not that dumb considering the auditorium was, like, the easiest room in the building to find. It had like twenty doors leading into it. The point is, she's looking for something and you're looking for something; that's a fateful meeting if you've ever imagined one! And you've imagined a lot of fateful meetings. It's a hobby of yours really.

I'll have a character sheet up for Flower eventually, but it's not really relevant yet.
