Okay, here are some comments on what I noticed people saying. Sorry if I missed anything major but that is (probably) not deliberate.
I'll probably close voting at around
17:30 GMT tomorrow. It may be later if RL distracts me.
Also I never knew how much I wanted this omg
Holy shit why does this work so well?
Merior... You are the hero that we don't deserve! ^_^
This is awesome ^_^
I'm flattered.
Hopefully I can manage to keep the quality up.
Also that the Dursley arent complete monsters and are humanized right off the bat but still bad people pretty good m8, wow. And Hagrid! Oh man. I wonder how things have changed beside the obvious. It seems like Harry isn't going to have to deal with the stupid boy who lived shite.
I really liked the fact that Hagrid being the master of beasts has some real weight in this world, I generally liked the changes to Hagrid. I'm exited to see the rest of the things that you have changed.
Hagrid is pretty baller here, but I sort of miss his old fluffybeardness. I think there are hints of it though!
The environment which Hagrid lives and works in is rather different than canon with quite different expectations and pressures. There is something of the Hagrid you 'know' in there though. If you end up with him as an ally or mentor then, especially in private moments, you'd see more of his gentler side.
That said, don't diss the guy who has looked to a Demon Bear for inspiration on how to kick ass.
Would be great fun for QQ. Here not so much. Powers a bit too inherently fetishistic in some ways, specially in the way it first demonstrate itself.
Or we could refuse to be complacent when it comes to sketchy or inappropriate behavior from our fellow posters. And use the report function and ability to say, hey that's not cool friendo.
I'm not sure how the powers listed would be fetishistic. The main 'power' you get is effectively being able to have two divergent sets of things you have an easier time cultivating when in that form even if they're opposed. (i.e. you could have an affinity for water as a male and fire as a female) The social problems would be because a) you were isolated to a degree on par with canon Harry by the Dursleys and b) cultivators in general might understand about this but the teenagers you're interacting with will have Issues about it.
That said you, whether you choose that option or not there will already be someone at Hogwarts who is more experienced with this. Other choices, especially which House you end up in, may make that person accessible as a mentor.
Considering the other quirks makes me believe that those used to the crazy world of wuxia will be far less bothered by it than muggles anyway. I peg Hermione as being more curious than anything. And we all know that Hermione is top friend materials! And Luna. Luna a good. Oh man, I wonder what everyone else has as their tell.
You know I've heard someone describe the
canonical Luna Lovegood as 'fey and strange'...
I have to ask some questions after thinking about it,
How the hell does the muggles have a government? Or even relevant?
Primarily because sects and cultivators are rather insular and someone has to run things. The dividing line about who is in charge of what you is somewhat more fuzzy though (there is a reason for 'taxes
and tithes' being mentioned), but the details aren't going to come up until if/when the government and laws directly touch on the action.
Are the earth same size as ours or is it big as an average star ?
Will there be any higher realms ?
If you want details about stars then you should nudge the protagonist towards studying astrology. If you want an answer with their current level of knowledge though?
[deadpan]The world is definitely larger than a star. A star is just a shining jewel thing embedded in the sphere of the Heavens. Right?[/deadpan]
Are we still an horcrux of Voldemort/Tom Riddle/Whatever the name he has ? Because we can probably get the inheritance of the Slytherin (Probably pill making and Basilisk/Snake type cultivation techniques with some Devilish/Evil methods) if we are.
Thinking about it, we can also get the inheritance of the Gryffindors (Righteous and probably Griffin themed cultivation with Swording) if we are lucky.
These are things which haven't been revealed yet any more than the canon Harry Potter knew about Horcux's in the first book. That said cultivation does deal with your own spirit, being aware of it and developing it, so you would think that having a chunk of someone else's soul stuffed in you is something which the protagonist would notice soon into their education.
EDIT: Clarified which day voting will close.
