Bleach: Derailed

I wonder if we can hit 150 votes before TPK even posts his hint blurbs for hitting 50... that'd be neat!

Anyway @TPK I got a question that I think I've tickled into being not-meta, and reasonable, which I think would help mitigate future shit-flinging over technique choices/MUH MUNCHKINRY.

Alright, let's give this a go; ahem.

@TPK would it be correct to say that Ichigo, himself, would feel that (everything else being equal) he'll be more skilled in a given field after having made a special tech in said field, versus how much he'd've developed in that field, in the same timeframe, sans-tech-development... or is the development of a neat trick just that, and has no impact on overall competence in the field of the trick?

I'm just trying to see if Ichigo feels like he's learning 'one neat trick' in the field that doesn't really impact anything, or if he feels like he's learning some degree of general lessons in the course of developing a given trick. And, I want to be super clear, I could not care less as to whether or not Ichigo's opinion is correct/utterly divorced from meta truth; I just want to know what his take is on this, now that he's done it once. And I want to know, so that way there's something to point at in case people get heated again; a 'no look see TPK says Ichigo thinks whatever we pick has zero impact on Ichigo's disambiguated skill scores so pick freely' or a 'See look TPK said Ichigo thinks this acts like a tiny boost to training in whichever field gets the skill so if you wanna bump up his development in [X] field...' could go a loooooong way, to increasing how often people justify their votes for legitimate reasons rather than, say, paranoia, fearmongering, or headcanon.

Don't get me wrong I love a good train wreck to munch popcorn to, but sometimes you want to be able to put that train back on the tracks, yannow?

I slept in.

@TPK don't know how you handle omakes so I'm just tagging you
I'm not sure yet either, but I appreciate the investment! Give me a bit to think.

Is this only relevant if we keep Zangetsu sealed?
No.

I forgot to put it in the update, but if you check the IC character sheet you did receive a bump to bakudo.

The reason Ichigo's zanpokutou was so large initially was due to a combination of his poor control and large amount of spiritual power, right? In that case, if Ichigo is suddenly going around with a normal zanpokutou then people would think his abilities have improved, right?

Wait, I seem to remember something from the soul society arc...

Captains, Lieutenants, and other sorts were only allowed to release their shikais outside of training areas because of the state of emergency, or something. Or maybe that was permitting them to use bankai, though I'm not sure.
Might be wrong either way.

IIRC Captains were forbidden from using their Shikai, let alone Bankai, in the Seireitei outside of war conditions. I don't remember anything about VCs being under the same restrictions.

If we go with canon release states, then the best option is to achieve bankai in under one year (totally doable) and then pretend that our bankai is actually our sealed state.

On the subject of constant release:
1) Many zanpakutos are plain impractical in released states (like senbonsakura or Omaeda's giant ball)
2) Does it not take power to maintain zanpakuto in a released state? That might be an issue for many people.

Overall, better relationship with Zangetsu is far more important than reputation or regulations. After all, Ken-chan was allowed to make Yachiru (who, I bet, never went through the academy) his vice-captain. Chances are, if we just one day declare ourselves 11th squad 4th seat, beat the current guy up and amuse Kenpachi enough while doing so, we'll be acknowledged as such on the spot. Well, maybe Ken-chan will make us do the paperwork for it.
On the other hand the 11th hardly goes into the human world.

Are you perhaps thinking of how Lieutenants and Captains are both under a flower-designed seal of their total power, when in the mortal realm, and only a state of emergency lifts this limit?

I'm looking for a good wiki link about this, it's a poorly documented lil' blurb.
I believe it's mentioned by Renji when Ichigo fights him during the Soul Society arc, and again in that first big fight in Karakura between Hitsugaya and company, and Grimjow and the Arrancar.

There's the mortal-world restriction, but there's also a restriction on captains and lieutenants pulling out their shikai inside the seireitei without a damn good reason, which was lifted temporarily when the gang invaded the soul society.

[x] Keep Zangetsu unreleased
[x] You can tell your friends

This combination plays to both lessons in control and Zangetsu's showy side. Getting everyone to wonder how far along the new prodigy is aside from a few rumors here and then releasing during the end of year exhibitions means a lot of people get caught off guard and Ichigo might be able to slip in to the Division he wants before others (except the 4th) makes their pitch.

At least, that's what I'm thinking.

Edit:
The (possible) downside is Kenny gettin' even more interested in us after the Exhibition.

If it's control training he needs, it'll definitely help in other areas as well.

[X] Keep Zangetsu unreleased

Both because of previews and also because I will take any option that helps the Takako friendship.

True, but, eh, we might finagle something. Actually, do we have any statistics for who gets to go to human world and under what circumstances? I mean, if we tell Kenpachi "I'm off to human world to get Yachiru new types of candy and a dark souls game so she's kept busy", and get him to sign off on the acquisition trip, will it be enough?
