[X] Action Plan: Returning Home
  • Exchange some (OPSEC-safe) stories with our hostess, both to get another perspective on civilian life and to make extra sure she isn't working against us or anything.
  • Complete the rest of the courier missions at Minami's direction.
  • Get back to Leaf and meet with Jiraiya again.
    • He's almost definitely stressed and overworked. Give him a chance to vent and drop the facade.
    • He might want us out of Leaf for a while longer. If so, and if he doesn't have anything in mind, suggest we go spend a month in the woods and do some sealwork. If not, catch up more thoroughly with Mari.
Right now, the most likely option that I see is that we'll complete the rest of the mission with no real complications, so it would be prudent for our plan to handle what happens when we get back to Leaf. The current plans don't seem to extend beyond 'continue the mission'.

@Velorien But then how does mist work? Is not the chain of events with his bloodline sense the chakra, taste the chakra? Would it not be misty enough or enough water on the ground for a continuous sensory data for Noburi to not have to worry about things getting past his realm of omniscience? Would he have to have an even higher skill in Vampire Dew for torrential downpour equal perfect fighting ground for Noburi?
Well, for a start, mist is a very specific phenomenon which you don't get just by chucking water everywhere. Recall those calculations @Radvic did. If Noburi is standing in the same puddle as someone, he might be able to sense them, but there's no way to guarantee that based on terrain and rain strength.

That's because you created a meme that has become widespread across all fiction threads on SV.
Echoing @eaglejarl, what meme is that?

Um, actually I've already been working on a character for a pen and paper game that takes inspiration from Kagome...
Be aware that Kagome is in turn based on Twitch from the All-Guardsmen Party (at least before you guys dumped a bunch of character development on him).

Oh, I'm aware -- I've read it, but I'm basing the ol' changeling Paladin (yes, really) on Kagome.

e: On another note, we should make like, 300 misterators and see what happens when you tie like twenty to an explosion seal.

e2: Also I object to the notion that we dumped the character development on him. We mighta nudged it, but it's y'all that made him the lovable, PTSD-ridden pal he is.

Apologies in advance for the brain dump.
So I have some ideas on the uplift both how it might look once completed and some ideas that could be started after this mission is completed. I have been trying to envisage what 'uplifted' would even mean in this setting a settled on the following:

To Transition to an information economy in a post scarcity environment.

One of the underpinnings of this society would be to transition to a Chakra$ universal income. This would also give nations an inherit reason to want larger healthier populations.
The Chakra$ is pegged at the amount of chakra a healthy civilian can safely donate/transfer in a day.

[ ] Action Plan: WorldVision adopt a village now!
Request the team be assigned an average Leaf village to test methods for improving the lives of civilians.
Work to improve village.
- Granite town walls
- Harvest chakra animals in radius of town
- Improve standing structures with MEW where possible, aquduct, irrigation channels etc.
- Provide Nin-Med care for critical and pediatric patients
- Provide storage seal for traders with trigger for them to open at destination
Suggest that in non-emergency times Genin teams should be encouraged to adopt their own village, both to improve Fire country as a whole and to help reintegrate ninjas after stressful missions and reinforce the will of fire.
Suggest that Leaf village should track the health of sponsored villages (GDP, Life expectancy, Infant mortality etc) and provide rewards such as intensive Jutsu training to the teams with impressive improvments. These results should be open and sharing of techniques used encouraged.
If the above becomes accepted, suggest a class be taught at the academy about the most effective methods to help civilians.

[ ] Action Plan: Peace Corps
Work to create a humanitarian relief mission profile for exporting goodwill out of fire country, and to be ready to help if natural (and unnatural) disasters strike within Fire.
Current work on civilian use sealing could be leveraged for reconstruction and releiving poverty.
With any luck as violent Ninja missions subside, these forms of ninja outreach can increase so that the villages stay relevent and continue to bind ninja's together.

[ ] Action Plan: Uplift Mofo Party plan
See who is charge of Leaf R&D, seek an introduction.
Revise the work that has already been done in these areas, and what resources may be available in the coming years to work on your goals.

[ ] Action Plan: Seal all of the things!
These are all the seal improvements that would power the elemental nations into a post scarcity society.

MEW, its back, now in seal form.
- Extend MEW types to include Granite, sandstone and marble.
- Design a modular Mew Shelter that can be used for mission-shelter and in humanitarian situations for pre-fab housing.
- Expand designs to other buildings/industries

Wood release
- Research a viable seal version for growing crops.

UGLSP
- Create non-gas version to construct material in front of seal from material in storage. basically a replicator
- Reverse technique to absorb all material in a 3M cone infront of it, storing wanted material and expelling unwanted material: mining/agriculture/industry basically a deconstructor.

Storage Seal
- Create multi-compartment storage seal
- Combine multi-compartment storage seal with ReverseUGLSP and Macerator: town recycler

New
- Create interface for recharging active seals. (put more power into ReverseUGLSP to go harvest another field/mine)
- Create method for variables within a seal. (the ability to create IF statments or triggers, ie if finger is placed here, then activate ReverseUGLSP deconstruction cone)
- Create common-method language for creating different items in a UGLSP-replicator, encourage sharing of designs.
- Work to increase resolution of UGLSP, first down to compounds, then to elements.
- Create method to Blackbox civilian seals. Black paper/ink, folder over, disintegrate non-violently in reaction to direct observation.
- Work with mednin for safe way for partial harvesting of civilian chakra. ie place hands over symbol for 10 seconds each morning x population of town, this would make the civilian population and any stored chakra the strategic reserve for nations.
- Work with mednin for method to harvest non-human chakra. ie villagers send animals into kill room for chakra harvest before taking them to butcher.
- Work with mednin for an personal scale seal based chackra storage.
- Work with mednin for an industrial scale seal based chackra storage.

Thoughts?

Could be slightly more efficient in a few places, but eh. Oh, also: @eaglejarl @OliWhail @Velorien The new requirements for Medical Ninjutsu/Medicine still aren't on the character sheets, or I'd have included them here.
Dag nabbit, this keeps slipping off my plate. Thanks for the reminder, please don't hesitate to keep poking.

Eh? Which one is that?

How hard does Hazou the character think they would be to research? (Edit: Just ballpark, I won't hold you to it.)
I encourage madscientist-the-player to think about the kinds of things Kagome has mentioned previously in his sealcrafting levtures. But as EJ said, we'll get back to you on this

I encourage madscientist-the-player to think about the kinds of things Kagome has mentioned previously in his sealcrafting levtures.

Every time I try to estimate seal difficulties based on story-given information (and my best idea of the QM's criteria based on that), it seems to have only slightly more accuracy than random guessing. As you should know, because I've bemoaned it at length the last time we tried to work out how difficult seals were to research.

At this point I've mostly given up, and I've been left with little option but to turn to Hazou, who has had access to far more Seal theory than I have, and who hopefully has some deeper understanding of the patterns involved.

EDIT: but for what it's worth...

Q: Is it a cantrip?
A: No. +1

Q: Is the effect significant in magnitude?
A: No. +0

Q: Is it a mod of a previously reseached seal?
A: No. +1

Q: Is it in the same field as a previously researched seal?
A: No. +2

Q: Will it cause the QMs to haemorrhage spoons?
A: I don't see how it could. +0

Q: Is it something sealmasters have been trying to make for centuries?
A: Wasn't useful until flight was common, so no. +0

Q: Does it fuck with other seals?
A: No. +0

Q: Does it fuck with dimensions?
A: No. +0

Q: Does it fuck with biology?
A: No. +0

Q: Does it require complicated info processing?
A: No. +0

Result: 4, not too difficult, should take a couple of weeks.

(Now let's watch as Hazou immediately discards the idea as being leagues above him. :()

[X] Action Plan: Heartache
  • Keep doing the mission. Same protocol as we've always done, plus additional security because we're close to Mist.
  • Try to convince Minami to help the contact.
    • Discuss time lost by escorting the contact's family.
    • Discuss time lost by clearing chakra beasts, such that the family could safely travel.
    • Discuss alternative methods of helping the family (material goods, MEW defenses, kill nearby chakra monsters...).
  • Some heartwarming/heartwrenching scenes wherein we check up on Rockfall 1's mental state (regarding killing 60 civilians).
  • Related scenes with Keiko considering the status of Panjandrum (who was "killed" during the battle), and other Pangolin-related matters.
  • Anything we haven't yet done from this list.

Real talk though, am I doing this right? Last time we were able to copy off previous plans but this is mostly unique stuff plus whatever we didn't cover last time, and I have no idea how to detail "talk to the team".

Make it clear that we are willing to talk if they need someone to listen. Don't force the issue if they don't want to, but do address the impact to the team's abilities should there be a noticeable drop.

So just one update ago plenty of people wanted to go around and help random civilians. Now that sedan help specifically Jiraya-aligned civilians as part of mission parameters it suddenly isn't worth even asking Minami about anymore?

On the flip side we seem to have kinda forgotten that as far as Mist and any of their allies/neutral nation's are concerned we are still missing-nin. Coupled with the fact that our team is down one jounin we should be more paranoid then we we're back in Iron and Tea, not less. Till now it didn't really matter because sleeping on skytowers was the most secure we'd ever been anyway, but now that we sleep on the ground again everything we used to do before becoming adopted is pretty much relevant again.

[X] Action Plan: Helpful, Yet Ninja
  1. Stay for food. Don't stay over night.
  2. Ask the woman various things:
    1. Nature of chakra beast attack.
    2. How the rest of the family is moving the wagon.
    3. Potential other dangers to the family.
    4. Something to assuage the hivemind's paranoia?
    5. Whatever Minami or Noburi want to ask.
  3. Investigate the farm for suspicious stuff without being overbearing.
  4. Make a one-night base 2 miles from here the way we used to as missing-nin.
  5. Try to convince Minami to help the farm people in some way (or find out if she had some serious reason for saying no that she didn't mention).
    1. Either covertly escort or kill the chakra beast(s) endangering the farm.
    2. Use arguments like that helping is still part of the Hokage's mission and if this breaks our cover nearly anything would.
    3. Be respectful towards Minami.
  6. Follow orders.
  7. Don't endanger team or mission or clan secrets.
This is an old style plan, yet I'm trying to keep it short anyway. I'll be editing in glaring oversights that I'll be made aware of but I won't be putting in details for every contingency.

Edit:
I seem to have been behind a page.

[X] The Mission Marches Ever Onward

If this results in a small timeskip for a week or so where we 'only' gain XP at the normal ninja rate so be it. I'd definitely take that tradeoff over trying to optimise every single day for XP by trying to make an above average plan for everything... Especially since we have been known to cause ourselves more problems (and then fewer XP) by micromanaging Hazou's life into disaster

Anyone have any thoughts for non binding strategy for the mission marches ever onward?

Assuming Konoha doesn't already have such seals, would stuff like heartrate monitors qualify as "fucking with biology"? I mean, it is technically a "Medical" seal, but it doesn't really interface with the body beyond detecting the heartbeat.

In the context I was using it, no.

What I posted was the brief section of my Seal Difficulty Estimation Checklist that I can remember off the top of my head. Medical scanners aren't "fucking with biology" for the same reason a Clock Seal isn't "fucking with dimensions".

EDIT: Although Casino Seals do qualify as "fucking with chakra" (something that was on the full checklist). *sighs* It's... mostly made of guesswork. I can't actually find my checklist atm because I wrote it on paper and haven't used it since deciding that estimating seal difficulty was about as reliable as astrology.

It could be well worth our time to investigate medical sealing once we're back then. On which note... where the fuck is Tsunade though?
