👋 i think ima ask for some potential options, if thats okay
Of course. I'll edit this into the bottom of the post. Note that this list is not exhaustive. And unlike the vote to bypass them they're all somewhat predicated upon the idea of going straight through the group to check on the vegetation their bighorners are grazing on first. But bypassing the herders for now and choosing to search elsewhere is a more than valid option. Especially if the local foliage turns out to be nothing special.
Choose one or more options
[ ][Power Armour Training] You can afford to take risks. With your armour it's not
impossible for them to hurt you with the simple weapons they have. But it is deeply improbable. With that in mind, one or two panicked bullets or arrows from the herders are little threat and can be written off as nerves or warning shots.
[ ][Speech/Charisma] Call out to the herders, explain that you're friendly before you approach, so there's as few misunderstandings as possible.
[ ][Barter] The herders have food, but few weapons. The brotherhood has weapons but requires food. And even if your plan to grow crops works there's still a demand for protein that these herders could help with. You could sell them weapons and ammo, at better rates than you get from other merchants, better yet, you could offer to sell them conventional firearms, bullets, better knives than those they have.
Without needing to sell away the chapters energy weapons.
-[ ][Small Guns] In particular, Veronica's handgun is better than anything any of the herders have. You could offer it them as an upfront payment, and a show of good faith.
[ ][Energy weapons]The opposite of calling out to them or giving a warning. Approach with weapons drawn on them while they're unaware. Faced with overwhelming force against someone who's already pointing guns at them, you'd have considerable leverage to control the conversation.
[ ][Sneak]With the herders not setting a proper watch and amusing themselves with drinking and
other distractions you could creep past the small circle of light cast by their flickering campfire to investigate the plantlife and vegetation.
