The Enemy Within (WHF Witch Hunter Quest)

[X] Rest

I'd rather the story just end here, I think. "Another Good Man dead in a ditch". It's not a happy ending, but we were never going to get that from the moment we were going up against an actual Cult Magus who could whistle up elite backup on relatively short notice.

At least he saved his family, that's not nothing.

Well, that is a 130k words of a decent Witchhunter's story.
But it has to end, and let's be honest, this story can only end in death or Markus becoming something worse.

More importantly, we foiled the Cult's plan, and Tzeentch's. After all, you can't take advantage of this guy if he got murdered by your Beastmen in a fit of spite because he didn't instantly succumb when caught in a bad position.

If we live, or worse--break--they get another throw of the dice.

Do what Trilby did, choose to [ ] Die, and in doing so, defeat the eldritch abomination lusting after you that requires you alive.

Markus will survive, but his will to continue will not. Unable to bear the burdens demanded by his faith and service, he will resign from the Holy Orders and seek some other path.

I'm intrigued to see where this path would go.

Death is not as much of a surrender as serving the Chaos Gods, but it is surrender nonetheless. Dying for fear of giving them another go at corrupting Markus is just demeaning, in my books.

Love how the town never sent anyone to check what is happening, there's beastmen right next to the town but nah why bother the certainly won't go and attack other farms after it.

Markus tried to do the impossible, to be a good person and also a hunter of the things in the dark and also a Templar of the Holy Order, this might be the end of the line for that Markus, but all Sigmar demands of mortals is their best, and who says pain and loss and Markus' own stubborn pride wrapped around his faith and his idea of the Empire he serves has to define him forever and be the end of every Markus? You know what I wanna see- I wanna see Warrior-Priest or whatever Markus as basically a public defendant for mutants and Strigany and Norscans fleeing the great tribes and etc... etc..., crossing over that line from Markus' understanding of the Witch-Hunters as a Law and Order episode DA's office.
