Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

He is?

Didn't even see that. Yeah, a bit heavier than what he has sounds reasonable.
Sorry, it looks like he is just using the barding equivalent of a Chainshirt, but it's listed as Chainmail in Gorok's equipment list. So he's in Light armor currently.

I'll swap him over to actual Chainmail barding in my plan. Going from Light to Medium is a reasonable upgrade.

If we are talking about huge projects, I think that Kori should go back to his tribe and teach them a lesson. Having a fuckton of upgraded gear would make a hell of a difference.

We could even try rescuing the country bumpkins into something that actually resembles their Azlanti legacy. Resettle them on the bottom of Gorok's tribe, so that they have protection from above and below.

After resettling Gorok's people, helping Urgor retake his ancestral city, and maybe investigating one or two sets of coordinates for Azlanti redoubts we learned early on, I wouldn't mind going back to Nar Voth for some exploring and adventuring. We should have two or three more levels under our belts by then, too. Between the levels and the gear, we would be able to accomplish quite a bit more down in the Darklands.

If this is "That time we got Warty amazing armour", shouldn't it be the best armour he can get?
Is the intention here to eventual go from medium barding to heavy, or just stick with medium from now on?

What about having it shaped/fitted for comfort - I feel like there are humanoid armour mods that do that?
And getting him some muleback cords to deal with the increased carry weight?

We could keep some extra adamantine to upgrade his armor later on, but I'm not sure how heavier armor would work for a Slurk. Heavy armor has better AC, but it also provides more coverage, and that might not be the best for a giant frog monster with slime squirting abilities.

@DragonParadox, based on Gorok's expert opinion, how much barding can Warty comfortably wear without impacting his ability to function?

Medium is the limit of what he can wear comfortably, his body plan is not made for heavy armor unlike large grazers

I would like to revisit the People, sure.

Not necessarily our tribe, though; don't think there is anything for us there. But there are other tribes, and we even had a hook to get involved with one, with the assassination plot.

...there is also the lost plot thread of a certain being calling us 'the guide of the Lost'. I'd like to pull on that one next time we have a chance.

There is also something about the Temple of Jaidi built upon a leyline nexus. They had something in mind for repopulating the world with Azlanti after the cataclysm, and I don't think they meant the old-fashioned way, at least not entirely.

I think looking for Azlanti survivors takes precedence for now. Can't teach anyone about their legacy if we have no idea what it is... and perhaps it would require some reinterpretation as well. Briolia fancied herself an Azlanti too, didn't she?

@DragonParadox given this huge windfall, does Urgor think his clan now has funds and equipment to make good on expedition?

And would now free former Crusaders mercs be interested in a new job to explore a dead city to put souls to rest?

Oh, certainly, they are going to fund a large force to march into the city and hold any ground you take, but when it comes to the sorts of horrors that lurk in the depths of the fallen city throwing bodies at it will just lead to them piling up. That is where you guys come in, both as scouts and the tip of the spear.

But couldn't they just hire a level 10 party for 100,000 gold or so? That's pocket change.

Cohesive, trustworthy parties don't grow on trees, and the more they spend on hiring help, the less they have available to deal with the aftermath. Reclaiming the city is going to require a lot more work than just cleaning out the Undead.

There is also the potential danger of the people you pay to do the work deciding they would rather keep the place for themselves.

Not really. I mean first off 10th level parties do not grow on trees. What you are describing are mostly people at the end of long and illustrious or infamous careers who have loyalties and roots elsewhere. Golarion has many mercenaries, that does not mean you can just hire trustworthy ones on demand from AdventurersR'Us.

I don't know. It's hard to believe for me that you can't find someone if you have so much money to throw around. Then again, if it were that easy, surely the dwarves could have saved up enough in the last hundred (or was it thousand?) years.

Jernashall fell a little over 800 years ago which is to say twenty dwarf generations ago. Even for them it is legend.

Arc 9 Post 39: Songs of Steel
Songs of Steel

15th of Kuthona 4707 A.R. (Absalom Reckoning)

It's a rare honor to see one of the sky-folk forge sage steel, but you are nonetheless invited. So is Gorok and Mina, he dwarves do not know enough to invite Sirim for his own sake, but that is just how the shade likes it, and with some hesitation Cob as well. Down by the shore on the south side of the city, where the stout squat houses suddenly sprout tall fluted chimneys of unfamiliar orange stone ferried in from the south at great cost, smiths in sturdy aprons of alchemically treated leather and masks made to resemble the heads of dragons and fiends move between troughs and anvil, molds and files, and blades with edges sharp to work a metal no man has known the secret of since the Age of Darkness. They huff and they puff and they shake their heads at being asked to make an elf blade, though they agree to it in the end. A breastplate they know how to make, though they ask more than once if Gorok wouldn't rather have a sturdier armor to see him in battle. Finally, at Cob's request, Gorok also asks for slurk barding and tusk caps for Warty.

"Think that's an even harder pitch than the sword," Mina whispers in the tongue of the People that none here but you and her speak, but you rather think she's wrong from the way the smiths are bustling about with a spring in their step. Unless you are much mistaken...

A dwarf as bald as an egg with creases that almost resemble stone at the top of his head, his beard adorned with silver tassels and thrice passes through his belt, emerges from one of the upper levels of the forge and almost trips over Cob before giving him a very thorough look before huffing and turning to you.

"Well then, let's see the big lugger!"

Mina takes out the statuette and dismisses the spell with a whisper to reveal a very curious Warty. Said curiosity is proven when he tries to taste the elderly dwarf who, with a speed that belies his appearance, dodges the tongue.

"Been a while since I worked with a slurk, it has. You take care of him, you hear? Never wise to antagonize one of them in reach of their tusks, and even less so when they're wrapped in sage steel."

"'Course we take care of Warty!"

The dwarf seems caught between approval of Cob's reaction and a desire not to approve of goblins in general, but in the end the former wins out enough for a grudging nod.

Hammers ring and bellows breathe, fire burns so hot it coils and it twists like the bodies of dragons while hurling breathes of smoke whistle into the air, like a warning to the city. The dwarves are at their craft. The metal ingots burn at first red hot upon the anvil that is altar of Torag, then hotter still, as bright as magegfire and as blinding as the sun. The dwarves begin to sing, voices deep and made to echo down long and winding tunnels that remind you of home even after all these many, many centuries. Though they had walked under the sun for almost as long as your own kin dwelt in Nar Voth their words still recall the roots of the world, and all the foes and all the beasts that dwell there.

You watch in shock as the metal goes from hot enough to blind to the cold of the blackest heavens and yet remains subtle enough for the forging. The smith's hammer then erupts into flame and blow by blow the warmth is put back into the metal, but it is different somehow, gold instead of red as it takes shape and purpose: the blade, the armor, the tusk caps, and finally the daggers that can cut even magic. Not yet touched by magic, a lesser blade even than the one you earned in Cauldron, and yet... the last time one of your blood held a weapon like this the High Realm might still have been standing.

Maybe its time to remind these Taldans that they are not alone as the heirs of Old Azlant...

How do you greet the Governor?

[] The Shadow Seer: The same way you had greeted every noble you ever met, in cloack of false seeming and armor of slik

[] The Heir of the Lost: See is there is a tailor who can bring to life the flowing robes and crossed sashes of your dreams

[] Write in

OOC: Enjoy.

Ah, a fellow Slurk aficionado. Warty approves. 🐸

Loved the forging scene, DP, and the song was the perfect accompaniment.

I think Shadow Seer might be the safer option, but Heir of the Lost is not untrue and could have a greater impact. Shadow Seer might also have some unpleasant associations with Nidal and/or the Darklands for the Taldans.

Huh. Regularly I'd prefer the 'shady and mysterious' look, but this being Taldor and right after the conversation about what the othaos (?) said to us... I want to see where it'd lead us. These thoughts haven't occured to Kori before, not to the point where they could have practical implications. I'd like to encourage them.

Maybe if we pretend hard enough, the mask will stick and others will start taking note of us, in the very same role we are trying to imitate.

Wait, can we divine where did the Azlanti survivors go? Did they pass through Taldor? The riverside route would be the easiest, and that'd mean they might have traveled down Selen, just as us.

I wonder if this bring us closer to...
"Scavenger's lure, feast's light, they come for what you have, they come for what you claim, they come for what you might be."
...and if so, whether we get another visit from a friendly (?) Outsider. I kinda miss his trippy vibe.

And that'd mean they passed through Cassomir, because it's the largest city on the said river. Almas is quite a bit farther.

We might want to look into that, see what traces they left, if any, and what their intentions might be.

This song, pun intended, is straight fire. Made me grow a beard and want to mine the deep mountains, lol.

Can always trust a dwarf who approves of big frogs.

We have the money, and recent events have likely inspired Kori to embrace his ancestry just a bit more.
