On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Gromril can break, for how else can the Smiths shape it into mighty arms and armour? Why would there stories of broken Gromril weapons being reforged? Of ancestral armours restored to the fullness of their glory by the descendants of their makers?

Do they have stories of reforging broken arms and armours by this time? We're before the big fall right?

I'd say Gazul. Though I would also choose Grimir just for the fun of it, so what do I know?

We met the guy, maybe we possess some of his legacy. Either way, we met all these guys.

First impression regarding their garbs and what it could mean.

Firstly, Grungni as a Lord.
You may shelter under the domain of a lord, and a lord even provides guidance and the promise of safety/protection/sanctuary to his subjects. But a lord is a Leader first and foremost. Sanctuary, often through laws and judgement is adjacent to being under the leadership of someone else, but it isn't the main focus of a Lord. After all, if you do not follow the leader, you no longer fall under their sanctuary.

Next, Grimnir the Doomed.
Obviously, the death march provided protection and sanctuary to all in Grimnir's path, and if even now the battle rages on to shield the world, arguably the whole world is under Grimnir's protections. But, a Doomed dwarf first and foremost focuses on Reprive. Reprieve of the self is the most common example we know both in the current age of how Slayers are developing, but also the future form it might still take. Grimnir's example is obviously exemplar, so instead of reprieve for the self Grimnir offers reprieve to all the world's lamentations, vengeance, grudges. A way to express that which is the direst burdens carried by a race carrying capital G Grudges who may have had no other way to express it before this example.

Thirdly, Valaya the Defender.
This one is tougher, but I think the intent is made clearer through the runestaff mentioned. Someone correct me or quote that passage where that was the topic of the talks, but memory says that it is primarily Valaya that lead dwarfkind to move away from their older more destructive customs, and obviously one of the ones who lead the way to what we now know as the right and proper way to do things. Also, it was Valaya's priestess that warned us (along with Judgement withheld pending results, but that doesn't count) about the new culture we were creating/changing. That talk made mention of the current way of things being like that for a reason. Those reasons are also why we were warned to tread carefully regarding the changes we were making, because those same reasons will apply to us too regardless of our intent. This is a long winded way for me to say that Valaya's light led the new way to dwarfkind, while also intentionally hiding/destroying/letting fade the old ways of doing things. Defending/safeguarding the core culture/spirit of dwarfkind through the new ways.

But lastly, there's Gazul the Slayer of Monsters.
First off, let me say that while the rest of the Ancestors Safeguarded some part or even the whole part of dwarf-kind, I believe Grimnir and Gazul are the ones that more directly embody Sanctuary for dwarf-kind without Leadership, Good Examples or anything of the like getting in the way of relating to Sanctuary. And I already pointed out that I think Grimnir embody Reprieve first and through that, Sanctuary. But Gazul the Slayer of Monsters is different. Going out and Slaying Monsters leaves behind the rest of dwarf-kind to do whatever it is they so please, with no demands or expectations among them, aside from the promise that if they do turn into Monsters then Gazul will have no recourse but to Slay them. This would have been more obvious if we bring the dwarf afterlife into the equation, because technically that is exactly what Sanctuary is. Holy, Sanctified ground protecting the souls of the dead. And the Slayer of Monsters might not be obviously related to guarding that, but it does lead well into being So Good at Monster Slaying that those inside can just relax, do whatever, and simply bask in the provided Sanctuary with no expectation for payment or qualification (only that they be un touched by the Ruinous Powers, but we all already know ooc how much stronger Chaos is). Rangers and Gazul roam the dark places so those under their protection can sleep quietly, burdened only with the goings on of their lives.

tldr; that's why I'm picking Gazul.

Whatever you choose, don't do Valaya.

We are not prepared for the dreaded Escort Mission a "protection" trial would likely result in.

Reprieve for what is to come... To me that sounds like death. And Gazul is the warden of that.

Do they have stories of reforging broken arms and armours by this time? We're before the big fall right?
Well, when Snorri fought the greedy troll, his Gromril armor got dented...
Zharrgal's handle got incinerated.
And:
Thane Morglum Skarridum of Kraka Dorden has petitioned you with a request. A weapon to replace the now lost ancestral heirloom of his Clan after it was destroyed killing a Fimir in the defence of Kraka Dorden; he asks for a hammer, one who's blows could be akin to calling down the light of the stars themselves upon the enemies of his Hold. A bit uninspired, plenty of Starhammers out there after all, but still.
So yea, it happens :)

They are way before the war of vengeance and the time of woes (assuming they will even still happen), but theyve existed as a civilization in its present form (and thus used gromril) for probably 4000+ years, and have been fighting various enemies for a lot of that, and even demons for over 1500 years. So yes, if Gromril isn't truly indestructible, it getting broken will have happened. A lot.

[X] Gazul the Monsterslayer

Also, we just did the Trial of Cleaving. remember what Gazul's sword does? It literally cuts a target's thread of fate out of the tapestry and then incinerates it.

Adamant is thougher than Gromil afterall, so while is a fantastical metal have some set limits.
Adamant is the thoughest thing we can get witout involving geomancy (deep magic) but even that have limits when it comes to magic.

[X] Gazul the Monsterslayer

[X] Gazul the Monsterslayer

Too be honest, I'm not sure Thungni is posing a question with a single answer. At first I considered this may be a way to generate Adamant - because that reference to Void in Valaya caught my attention. Purification has been described as a Void too. But the combination of these four wouldn't do it, I don't think and there's nothing in their aesthetics that grabs my attention to line up with that.

I also considered like, aesthetics matching. Gazul is the only one with all his kit as expected, far as I know. But I don't know if that really matters.

Kneel and find reprieve is pretty straightforward. The Rune of Sanctuary's effect is pretty straightforward - boost a dwarf's resistance to magic. There are multiple ways that could be happening, perhaps the soul, perhaps some other quality. Valaya is the ancestor most associated with anti-magic.

Honestly I am leaning towards Gazul, not out of an entirely sound path of reasoning, but because of several factors.

Tiwaz, rest, is also Sanctuary. Gazul's rune is used to give sanctuary to the dead and Gazul himself guards the final rest of all dawi.
Thungni sought sanctuary with him in Zorn. In our vision, Gazul used a torch to burn the threads of Fate. Precognition is a kind of vision.

In some ways I wonder if this is a buff room. Literally a reprieve.

[X] Gazul the Monsterslayer

I've come around to the idea this is a buff room for the remainder of the trials. I don't think there's a wrong answer here, but I'm leaning towards Gazul since he's the one that deals with fate.

Whats up with the italisation
its notable that neither of Grungni's artifacts are highlighted that the others are. Really not sure if this is intentional.
Grungni in His aspect as Lord, with Drongrundum held in both hands yes, but rather than a helm as most Dawi would use for, it is the Dragon Crown

Byrn
Azril
War-axe of Doom
Foefeller/ "Enemy Slayer"
Zan or something
Peacegiver

Flaming Vengeance

Thungni's thing in this is riddles inside riddles, but I'm not sure how to make that make sense.
Some of it almost seemst like a sentence "Foes know bloody peace in the void of vengeance" or something.
