[X] search for a guide on town that is aware of the supernatural, or at least somebody aware of the supernatural who could then help find a guide
    [X] Plan By Water
-[X] Study the map and start near the closest water body. Tap into Nemo's senses to navigate by water. Prepare your supplies accordingly to remain water proof, etch a minor water repelling design on the folds to keep your supplies safe. Look for the landmark and use your senses to orient.

The Kawatche Tribe
Since I don't feel like accidentally doing any insinuating, and this is a Lovecraft world, I am inserting in an imaginary native tribe, the Kawatche (totally ripped off from the show Smallville). Expect a lot of hybridization. Will do my best to be respectful

You sought around Winnipeg, being directed further and further to the west until finally you encountered natives. Your questioning lead you to being directed further west, where the Kawatche tribe rested along Lake Manitoba. You had your reservations about approaching them directly, uncertain of yourself in this new place, but you needed a guide, and knew they would be the best people to ask for that from.

The people stared at you as you approached the community center on the reservation, something in their eyes that set you on edge. You didn't think all of them were fooled by the locket you wore. "What does the o'ikim'tapi seek with us?" a man asked.

You blinked. "I'm sorry? I'm looking for a guide to help me find a friend."

"Another of your kind is here in our lands?" he asked.

Ah. He definitely saw past your locket. You wrapped your hand around it. "My friend is human. His name is Robert Sinclair. He is doing field research out in the woods."

"Ah, him." He nodded. "I will take you there." You relaxed, relieved that it went so smoothly. It was still unnerving to be seen so clearly.

Robert's Camp
"What do you know of the o'ikim'tapi?" you asked your guide curiously.

"You speak as if you are not one yourself."

"I wasn't. I only recently became this."

The guide hummed. "Meddling with dangerous magics is not wise."

"It was an act of desperation. I was going to be killed."

The guide hummed again. "We do not have much contact with the o'ikim'tapi. We know they exist. We know they prefer the oceans. Beyond that we don't know."

You studied him trying to divine if he was telling the truth. It seemed he was being honest. His wariness of you came from inexperience with deep ones. He knew of them, but not about them. "How did your people meet my friend?"

"We came across him on a hunt. We invited him back to eat with us, and grew to know him. He is a good scholar, with a good heart. He is eager to learn and open to the world." You nodded, pleased by the compliments to your friend.

You reached the camp, and Robert looked up in shock. "Oliver? I thought you died!"

"I almost did," you admitted. "I apologize for leaving you behind." The guide slipped away silently, leaving you to your reunion. Robert stepped forward and reached out to clasp your hands.

"How? What happened?"

"I found the cultist powering the ritual," you told him. "I fought him, but he managed to shoot me. I was going to die. I had a way to return home though, and my friend Emily helped patch me up enough to recover. I wrote you a letter as soon as I could, but I guess I arrived here ahead of that."

Robert laughed in delight. "Of course you had a strange trick up your sleeve to survive!" He clapped you heartily on the back and pulled you forward. "I may not know anything about what you've found yourself involved in, but I am glad you're alright."

[X]Show him the gem and offer to give it to Emily for safekeeping

I'm not sure if the nuance is important, but it's my first thought.

[X]Show him the gem and offer to give it to Emily for safekeeping

While i like Robert, i think its best if Emily has the gem. Having the gem would only put Robert in more danger.

[X]Show him the gem and offer to give it to Emily for safekeeping

If it's an occult focus Cultists are going to be drawn to it like flies. Robert would be again put in harms way without having the means to defend it.

I want to connect him with Jackson if we get the time. Sounds like they might get along. And redeem the waitress sending her to Child inventor.

Change of Hands
You smiled. "Truly terrible our camping trip was ruined. Ah, but that's not all I brought with me!" You reached into your coat and pulled out the gem.

"What? You have it?" Robert stared in surprise.

"It was at the ritual site, I took it when breaking it. You said you were entrusted with the gem, it seemed only right to return it to you again." Robert gave a wane smile at your words. "Ah, I understand it's dangerous. I do have a friend who is much more experienced in these things than me, perhaps you would entrust her to watch over it? She could keep it from being used again. But it's your choice, not mine."

"You know more of these things than I do. I trust you wouldn't give it to someone who would use it for harm."

"Very well." You tucked the gem back into your pocket.

-[X] Ask him to tell you what happened after you left.
-[X] What happened to the Waitress that you left him with? Did they run into the creature?
-[X] Did he maintain contact with her? You want to reach her as well, to help stay away from the wrong sorts..
-[X] If he'd like you can put him in contact with others who can help him make sense of his first experience with the occult - mention the Professor and Jackson. The Reverand as well, how he took in a troubled man recently.

I wonder how Jackson would react the next time he sees us again. Or the others in the friend circle.

Eldritch has certainly changed up the dynamic a bit. The charisma eyes might have mitigated things to the point the native tribe still were willing to have a conversation despite being wary.

Concern for Oliver perhaps as a reaction, hopefully not fear. It looks like people who have only been peripherally affected by supernatural still can't see past the glamour judging by Robert.
