We could make a makeshift turret, using chains and a wheel and some wood, tho I think metal pipes would work better, we place it up high so its got some reach so a tower. Being a minigun it can mow down hundreds of raiders trying to assault the settlement. As long as no one uses a rocket or a mininuke on the tower.
It would still need a person to aim it an fire it, so I think it would be best to put it somewhere raised but not so high that it would count as a tower.

Plus, it would shield it form someone trying to snipe it with a rocket or mini nuke.

just realized how absolutely horrifying it is to fight sentry bots or assaultrons, like seriously you probably have max 5 seconds to react in time before being disemboweled or blown up.

Like imagine being some random scav and you just get erased by an eye laser from something you could barley react to with your shitty pipe rifle

speaking of OP how are you gonna deal with combat here? I assume realism but you never know

Pre-War America with all of its wonders and horrors lmao, guess thats military technology for you

You know what'd be fun? If it were possible for Nate to turn military robots friendly by announcing that he's a soldier. Of course, their circuitry is probably too fried to care, but it'd be fun if it could work. Especially if it nets us an Assaultron.

It does work in the game, but those are scripted, I 100% believe that outside gaming mechanics that every military robots would react to him as being a soldier.

The problem is that Nate wasn't ranking officer (I think), so I doubt the robots will listen to any random soldier.

Plus, there's probably a lot of secret codes you need to do that in order to prevent spies from taking control of military hardware.

Fair enough. It was just an idle thought. Though it could be fun if we could "aquire" the credentials of a higher-ranked officer somewhere. Random robots wandering around would have access to to the pre-war records so it'd be easier to bullshit them.

[X] Plan: Finishing, energy, loot and robot.

This seems like a good balanced plan with a bit of everything in it

Heres a question. Can we expand into the Vault? If the plan for Vault 111 was to release a pre war population after the bombs dropped. There must have been a bunch more levels to the vault then we saw in game. Living Quarters, Med bay, Armory, Aquaponics or Hydroponic set ups etc. You know the normal facilities we all see in other Vaults. I think it may be a heck of a lot safer besides dealing with the rad-roaches (which didn't the first mission in fallout three have us shooting a couple in the basement of the vault 101? So it seems like a common problem). Then just having some wooden walls. Like sure lets keep sanctuary hills as a Trading settlement but like Vault Tec said: Live a better life! Underground!

That would require Vault tek to not be a complete clown show pretending to do science. If there were any food growing setups the staff wouldn't have killed each other trying to get out.

The canonical sole use for 111 was as a testing site for the effects of indefinite cryogenic stasis, and the residents were never intended to be released; likewise, there wouldn't have been an option to inter the non-cryo corpses in the Vault if the Vault hadn't gone full crab-bucket when their extremely limited supplies ran out per canon. Barring Cubic having changed that (and some expansion to account for not being a compressed, walkable video game world), what we see canonically is presumably what we get.

Which is not to say we can't expand in there, since we provably can; it just won't be self-sufficient (without a lot of work, at least).

The big prize down there, aside from letting sturges study the cryo gun, is that the place still had enough power running in it to make massive arcs of electricity. So we can probably run some power cables down there to use whatever generator it's got. Plus it makes a good shelter if any rad storms pop up.

I get it. Just decent shelter is hard to come by in the wasteland. Especially Vaults. Even if it takes a lot of work having only one way in and one way out you can watch (Vault 111 has that security station at the entrance) and dependable power would see a lot folks coming for safety. Of course that also means the institute will pop by to pay their respects most likely. Even if we don't bring civilians there we could use it for the headquarters for the new minutemen and a fallback position in case of emergencies.

Oh absolutely, there's loads of things we can do with the Vault. Secure storage (supplies, armory, workshops, brig, really any conceivable use you could think of for a big empty space with only one extremely securable entrance), juicy tech to rip apart, free power.

I'd just treat it as a specialized subsector of Sanctuary, really.
