Not Quite Lovecraft

While maybe a passenger has a disguise that can fool us, it's more likely that the killer has a means to avoid the guards. That could be from an inhuman shape or from a mental influence.

[]Talk to the guard (as many as feasible). In the guise of telling them what you know about Robert's movements, try to figure out if any of them are under an effect of a mesmer?

I'm not sure what to do about an inhuman shape, which is why I'm leaving my vote unchecked for now.

Hmm, something about the waitress wringing her hands bothers me. I don't think she could have removed all traces of blood if she was the killer, but that and the mention of her dropping a glass at the stroke of seven earlier makes it seems like she could be involved.
Could be that the gem is what killed Robert, or something in the gem, and that's why there's no traces.

It's a game of whodunnit. I think it's gotta be religious-crazy and an native inhabitant of the place. Robert took the gem from a sacred ground so on of the guardians came to retrieve it.

[X] Wash yourself and then ask the guard who among the passengers are a Manitoba local. Or ask the passengers yourselves, saying you need a native to help you contact Robert's relatives over there. You just had some questions about the place..

Final Preparations
You were worried. You didn't know what you were facing, beyond the fact that whatever it was had killed your friend. You didn't know what it wanted, or what else it might do. You knew that it had hidden from you better than you had expected it to. When the train guard sent everyone back to their cabins you were quick to start setting up preparations. You would try to prepare as many things as possible for what might come. You pulled out the portrait door in case you needed to make an escape back home. You set a blessing of Isis around your cabin to keep the undead from entering. You sat down and carved sets of the talisman that Pachamama had left you marked with. Such wouldn't aid you, as you already had that on you, but perhaps it could be a weapon, or a shield for others. You took out the guns you had brought for the trip and checked that they were ready to be used.

[X]Leave Nemo at home where they're safe
-[X] Open your mental link with Nemo, communicating to them to be on guard to share. Channel their predator's instincts when they go on the prowl.
[X] Go into the red realm and see if the spirit of Robert passed through to find solace.
-[X] If not, perform a calling with his blood still fresh in your hands. (Roll Occultism)
-[X] If it looks like it's going to take too much time defer this task to Emily and return before people think you're missing.
-[X] Lock your cabin compartment securely so it can't be opened by the guards while you're gone

Eh, I don't think being mysteriously missing from our cabin if a guard comes by to check would be a good idea.

Have we actually like, cleaned up at all? It was mentioned we were still bloody last update. It might be a good idea to take care of that.
... Though if we were going to be doing any magic maybe we could use the blood for something.

There is always a chance the gem is holding our friend's soul or something too. But either way I doubt Robert went to the red realm. Most people don't.

I guess it is a question of how long it would take to do a spirit calling, and if it would cost us anything.

I'm not dead set on it, I'd be happy to also support another write-in than just skipping an essentially prep turn with a default action..

Maybe we can foist off some of the work to Emily to save time? Vote updated.

Nemo has come a long way from the hotel incident with the deep one's daughter quest I suppose. We brought him into the hotel and the staff saw and panicked. He ended up having to defend himself and escaping. If we do bring him now, we could mentally compel him to hide or not attack the passengers I guess?

Hmm. Honestly I would rather keep things on the down low right now. We don't even have proof of supernatural involvement yet.
On the other hand if we over-react and lean too deeply into the supernatural aspects of things it could leave us in a very difficult to explain situation with the mortal authorities. I notice nobody has come by to take our statement yet.

If some supernatural threat does come to us we should hopefully be okay without Nemo anyway. We have our gun. We have various protections. And worst comes to wort we have Nemo's claws through our tattoos.
Also our locket means any supernatural threat should underestimate us. We might even be overlooked entirely.

[X]Leave Nemo at home where they're safe
-[X] Peak out into the corridor to make sure everything is still going alright. If you can see a guard try convincing them to update you on the situation.

The End...
You decided that you'd leave Nemo at home. There were too many unknowns at this point. Part of you still held hope that this was a mundane case, though your heart ached. You opened the door to your cabin to peek out, and the train guard hurried over to speak with you. "Everything has been quiet, please stay inside. It's still another six hours before we arrive," he told you.

"Ah, thanks," you murmured. You withdrew inside. Six hours of waiting, unless you could think of something. You doubted you would sleep tonight.

You looked out your window, and your gut twisted. Something wasn't quite right. The night sky looked as it should at first glance, but your instincts said otherwise. Something was happening. It looked like one of the stars was approaching towards the train. No, no that wasn't quite right. The light was growing, but it was twisting-tearing. The light was from the sky being torn open, reality being torn asunder.

Your heart pounded in your chest as you leaped up. Desperately you called on Nemo's abilities enhancing your senses. Reality was warping around you as a new doorway was being made. What was coming through was immense. It reminded you of the echo of what the Hunger's true appearance had been. Strands spun out at the center with what looked like lights of its own budded along them. It was almost beautiful as it came closer, an alien flower blooming out its strands and vines to wrap out, and consume yourself and your world.

Hm.
Well. That's less than ideal. What comes next, I wonder?
