The Kosmos is a tapestry woven onto the face of the Void.
Its fashion comes through the whim of its children, through the Night and her daughters, The Fates.
The world and all that is in it, is the toy of those weavers, the Moirai: Klotho, Lakhesis and Atropos.
If it is their will to unmake you, it has been done.
If they wish you dead, you will die.
If any displease them, then their thread is drawn and it is cut.
But Destiny is not fickle. Destiny is not unfair.
Usually...
Regardless, all that is can be changed. Whether by whim or great purpose, who is to say?
Perhaps the Old Ones had simply grown bored in eternity. Perhaps the course of the world has been some grand error in need of correction.
None can say but Them.
None know why the gods have been cast down from their high places. Or what has become of the Heroes to be, of their stories and their efforts and their potential.
All those who have mouths to speak may profess one thing:
Olympus Has Fallen and the World Is Not the Same As It Was.
What Strange Age is this?
[] An Age of Gold
-In the War of the Titans, Kronos succeeded in restoring his dominion over the West. The Pantheon is now firmly in the hands of its older master, the Son of Earth and Sky come again. The old boundaries are there in many ways but changed in others, the gods are not safe if they live at all, and the world of mankind is trampled underfoot.
What form this new Dominion is to take will be decided next turn.
[] An Age of Fear
- In the War of the Titans, much has been lost by the Gods. They had grown proud. So they were humbled. They had settled into their power. So their roots were torn out. The war is not over and the Gods have taken flight, back to the old world or to wherever refuge could be found. Some did not make it The forces of Olympus have been routed and the West is split. The old boundaries have been replaced, none know what is to become of them, and the world of humanity is frayed and torn.
What form this Divided world is to take will be decided next turn.
[] An Age of Death
-In the War of the Titans, the wheel has been broken, and the world reflects this. In their struggle for power, the Gods and the Titans have ruined themselves, such that the "West" is more of a memory than a place. Many of highest powers of the world are scattered to the wind, broken beyond repair, dead in all but name. The old boundaries are no longer there, none are safe if they live at all, and the world of humanity is broken underfoot.
The severity of the damage will be decided next turn.
[X] An Age of Confusion
- In the War of the Titans, the proudest of the Gods fell so that the rest could hide. Where they hid, few know. But all must accept that the Gods had abandoned them to this new world. The rule of Titans is not so much secure as it is allowed. The Gods do not fight. Resistance is in the hands of their children and is sporadic and isolated. The Titans did not win the war, but they did gain the peace. They are fractured among themselves, the strength of their King is unproven, alliances of necessity are no longer needed. The Gods have removed themselves from this new world and in their absence is a time of change where nothing is certain. The old boundaries are a suggestion, a possibility. Safety is a question, but largely out of anyone's hands but the world's new masters. The world of humanity is agitated and volatile.
A/N: Just a few things to lay out.
I thought about having everything loaded onto the first post, but nah. Setting comes first, and then you all can bring that into the character creation.
This is an AU, partially for tone reasons and partially because it's been many years since I've read any Riordan books. Just for creative freedom and not to be too tied down to canon (especially depictions of the gods and the parts I don't remember). Some aspects of the world will be more accessible and present than in the books, magic for example. Others will be less so. For example, the only scenario where a Great Quest is likely to be called is Option 2.
A good rule of thumb here is that the more broken the world is, the less the rules apply, whatever the rules are. Interesting times and all that. Don't be surprised to see strange things in strange times. Don't be surprised at what you're capable of when the guard rails are gone.
The title will be changed once the Introductory chapters/votes are done.
I love questions, they help keep the creative juices flowing.
Half-Blood: You are a child of a divine being, an immortal. You are gifted over other mortals, you are stronger, faster, your skin is clearer and you don't read English too good but you are persistent regardless.
Diplomacies +1 , Bia and Dynami + 1
Will to Live: You have looked Death in the face and refused his hand every time, you decided to keep living for its own sake. You do not cling to life like an animal, you choose it with every breath like human being.
Child of Hope: You are a child of Elpis, Hope deified. Your mother is not a normal god.
Diplomacies +1, Dimiourgia +1, Esoterikos +1, Poniria -1
New York Witness (Veteran): You fought in the Battle of New York, you have faced, ran from, tricked, and killed so many kinds of monsters that it's a miracle that you are still alive and have all your limbs and wits. You have fought creatures from the depths of Tartarus that have never known a world where Kronos was not its king. You have heard creatures speak in Greek so old, even your divine ears cannot parse though their words. And you have seen your comrades die in an unspeakable ways. And in the end, Zeus spat on all your sacrifices by destroying the city and all the people in it. You are...affected by this experience.
Charisma -1, Eusebias -15, Skafos +4, Martial +3, Poniria +3, Logos +1, Esoterikos +3
ἀγνώς: There is a hollow feeling in your core, like a creeping coldness as a fire dies... Diplomacies -2, Dimiourgia -1, Esoterikos, -1, Poniria -1
Factional Modifiers:
Homeless: Camp Half Blood is not a Camp nor is it strictly Half-Bloods, it's more of a roving band of traumatized survivors, many of whom are mortals well out of their depth.
Stratos - 3 For all Faction Members When Under Attack
Division and Despair: The resolve of the camp has been more than tested, it is beginning to fail and the costs will only continue to mount the longer the Camp goes without a unified leadership and mission.
Eusebias + 1 Charisma -1
Athenian Consultocracy: Athena Cabin has managed to form a rough consensus based leadership that keeps things together so long as most of the Camp is willing to follow along. If the camp isn't put under direct stress to act quickly and decisively, the bonds of the camp are likely to hold.
1 Saving Throw For Critical Fail Faction Rolls
Universal Modifiers:
Mist Faded: The mist is thin... so thin that mortals can see everything. No one knows why.
Clouds Ungathered: The King of the Gods is no more. It was a terrifying feeling, when first you felt it, the death of a God. At first you all thought Zeus was defeated, imprisoned maybe. But there was no denying it when the Great Storm that had gathered around New York did not dissipate after the battle, but instead spilled outward in all directions. Just as fierce, even more erratic, and the downpour only continues to spread and flood the land.
ἀγνώς: The Sun seems faint... ἀγνώς: Morale, the will to fight, it fades with each passing day. All that anyone does is for survival, not glory... ἀγνώς: Winter has come early this year, the Storms fall in sleet and freezing Rain... ἀγνώς: The fire pits never really warm you the way you'd like. Fire doesn't burn how it used to...
This quest will be using a CK2-esque stat arrangement, but they will be split into different sub-categories depending on the action taken. Not all sub-categories will be used or available for an action. Most of them will be more affected by traits and circumstances than character action. They exist as a representation of multi-faceted capabilities. Just because you are strong doesn't mean you can lead and just because you're good at making mortal friends doesn't mean you can use the same moves on Aphrodite.
Your overall stats will be the average of a given category, but rolls will be determined by the subcategories they concern.
Diplomacy:
Charisma - Mortal Diplomacy, how well you engage with others openly Eusebias - Divine Diplomacy, used when engaging with unfamiliar immortals. It's a bit like courtly knowledge, how to curtsy and bow, it's your ability to demonstrate reverence and respect for Gods, Titans, Spirits, etc. Can be affected by your affinity with their domain or your knowledge. Mostly used for prayer or in situations that demand holding your tongue. When it fails, Charisma can save you, but it's the first line of defense. Is added onto all rolls involving Immortals who have no established social link.
Stewardship:
Litótita - Stewardship, used for managing resources, purchasing goods, growing things (alongside logos) also affects how well you can maintain your posessions. Skafos - Used for building, making camp, can impact traps, maintaining old weapons, making new ones. Dimiourgía - Divine creation, your ability to work supernatural metals, your ability to create life with magic, creating magical artifacts or understanding existing ones (would combine with Esoterikos).
Martial:
Stratos- Strategic Martial, your capacity to understand military concepts, plans, signals, organization, how well you command others and comply with commands. Bία - Tactical Martial, your battle sense and how effective you are, isn't necessarily strength but building your strength will affect this. Dýnami - Physical Martial, your physical condition and strength, affects your combat ability along with Bia.
Intelligence:
Poniriá - Intrigue, used for low cunning, plots, setting traps, poison, executing break-ins or stealing. Maybe seduction...but that's not likely to come up. Street smart. Logos- Conventional Knowledge, knowledge of myths, geography, maths, etc. Book smart. Esoterikos- Unconventional Knowledge, deep lore and understanding, knowledge of curses and wards, the construction of automatons, the casting of spells. Wicked Smart.
Dealing with the reascended Titans, figuring out how to keep humanity from tearing itself apart, keeping the world itself from giving up and dying, navigating a new godless world
