[X] Plan: Spontaneous Heart Attack
-[X] Sneak into the Tzar's room, use mockery of death on him then implant him with a Matrix loaded with Shadow Dagger loaded. Set the matrix to go off the next day at a time the Tzar is likely to be in a public place.

[x] The Locked Room Murder

The blood soaking through the clothing would initially conceal the lack of damage. It's honestly pretty subtle, as far as clues go.

Like, it's not like his clothes are going to be clean. It's going to be super messy. Mockery of Death is going to be generating the stranger clues, frankly. Him being dead before being stabbed is a conclusion they might draw before they notice the clothing thing.
Eh, not really? The clothing being undamaged is going to be something a vampire would have forseen beforehand which is clearly and unambiguously supernatural-and the fact that they don't see the stab wound before they undress him wouldn't be hard to figure out.
And there's going to be a formal investigation, not just an initial lookthrough by the guards, because we're killing the Tsar of the kingdom, not Baron Johann von Shmiltzburg (and that it was an assassination is going to be pretty universally clear).

I'm now voting for anything that involves a magical implication. Not having one simply fails that 'Lahmians' test, as it could be mundane.

Straight Nighttime Visitor is just accepting failure.

If we don't leave behind something clearly supernatural, it might not ever cross their minds that the assassin wasn't mundane.
Ultimately Boris' goal is for his father to go away, being able to pin it on the vampires is a bonus. If they cannot pick up on the signs, we shrug and move on. If Boris wants a purge he has his own people who can manufacture a reason if he really wants it.

To be clear, killing him without pinning it on the Lahmians directly leaves a lot more room for confusion or suspicion going everywhere, which is a problem- but the main goal is that he dies without us being suspected, and a supernatural attack that looks lahmian but clearly wouldn't actually be done by a Lahmian can only be the work of either the Skaven or the Grey College.
A mundane assassination, though? The Lahmians do plenty of those!

It's subtle for someone making a mistake in a dark room, which is all we care about. The hypothetical assassin hypothetically wouldn't notice the clothing being untouched because stab wounds are small and that whole area would be covered in blood and their hypothetical magical knife would be obscuring the view unless they doublechecked it after they took it out.

It doesn't need to be true, and it doesn't need to actually be a mistake a Lahmian would make (although their recruitment standards don't actually select for assassination skills in a way that would ensure unimpeachable handwork, to be clear). The guards eventually catching it is the whole point; all we have to do is sell the lie of why they caught it.

I trust that if we don't give specific instructions Mathilde will do something she thinks is appropriate for each option to try to fit the criteria best. We may be able to think of something better, but just the generic options are probably fine for mostly hitting the points.

I'm confident in our work with the actual kill, but so far the aftermath of our assassinations have usually been fights and flights that only worked halfway decently, one time even nearly got us killed by Orcs.

I hope the improvements over the last years are enough to change that weakness.

[X] The Locked Room Murder: Too perfect version
-[X] Use Mockery of Death so there is no sign of struggle when he is stabbed in the heart, then lock all the doors and windows from the inside and leave the room by Substance of Shadows or Smoke and Mirrors, leaving behind a perfect murder in a completely locked room.

Was tad too worried when backreading first. Felt like people were going too much in direction of Lamia, instead of "keep it quiet" which was the first stated goal, leaving it as basically an Ace attorney murder.

Keep it simple. Quiet murder first. If the vampires aren't implicated from this, that is sad but that was just a bonus goal. Our focus should be on accomplishing the first goal.

I was busy with work and didn't have time to keep up with the thread for a few weeks. Caught back up now. I was surprised by how overwhelmingly the thread voted for assassination.

[X] Plan: Spontaneous Heart Attack
[X] Nighttime Visit With Style

Either of these plans seems fine to me.

...This is me being half-joking, but looking at the myriad options we have for assassinating the Tzar, and at the indecision as to which exact method to take, I can't help but wonder if we're doing this:
