I don't think so. IIRC, most anatomical knowledge is being gained by cutting dead people open after stealing their bodies. So autopsies probably aren't a common thing. Might get the death written off as a sudden disease or poison though, if he goes "I have a great pain in my chest" or something, rather than being stabbed. Depending on your preference for his death (frame a Lahmian or not) this may or may not be a good thing.
That's in the Empire under the influence of the Morrites though.

Who hold no power in Kislev.

Or instead of all that we're in and out in under a minute. I prefer that option.

It absolutely is an increase in risk. We'd be massively increasing our exposure window.
The option that doesn't implicate the Lahmians. Because it's a mundane killing method. Again, Personally, I'm fond of the Remote control miscast killing,(my idea, I will say, so I'm biased) as it's the clearest example of something went wrong that happened. while also being a reasonable screw up (miscasts happen, and it certainly looks like one).

There are probably very, very few people with a pulse, or for that matter without it, who have as much vampire lore as Mathilde. The odds are that none of them are here, and if they were, they'd probably have been exiled from the capital by the current Tzar on suspicion of being a wizard. We're not playing to an audience who Know Shit on that level; we're playing to an audience that still tells spooky campfire stories.
This isn't true. The Pavel Society is explicitly anti Vampire, and they know their shit.

-[X] Use Mockery of Death so there is no sign of struggle, then stab him in the heart with a Shadow Knife. Leave the room by Substance of Shadows or Smoke and Mirrors, leaving behind an unnaturally quiet death.

I just don't like the hour that the Matrix takes to set up. Even assuming no one comes around, an hour spent setting it up is an hour Mathilde can't be leaving the scene of the crime.

Mathilde doesn't need an hour to leave a scene of a crime. She is, both tactically and strategically, one of the most mobile single persons in the world outside of dragons.

Hm. The colleges are not poor, and also not so large that paying out a sizeable sum of money (by peasant standards) per student would bankrupt them. Maybe whoever pays could be reimbursed by the colleges if the prospective mage turns out to be the real deal?

If the kid isn't the real deal, well, the Elector Count or the Emperor both have plenty of goon squads to punish any parent horrible enough to try and fraudulently sell their own child by claiming they're a wizard.
Maybe, but the Colleges probably also don't want to do this. And some of the Colleges probably are poor. Like, does the Amythyst College have much money?

Hmm. Perhaps. That said, the sanctity of the dead is usually a pretty big taboo. And IIRC Morr does have some influence, in the south. I doubt that there's a stadard practice of cutting open dead bodies in any Warhammer nation though, especially given that necromancers are a thing.

I really don't like specifically locking the doors and windows but in the original Nighttime visit.

I quite liked the Matrix idea, but I really don't think suddenly dropping dead in the middle of a crowded place fulfills the primary objective "Do it as quietly as possible" or the secondary "Make it look like a Lahmian trying not to be caught."

This one. It's from the start of the quest, shortly after the Matrix was reverse-engineered.

With the bindings as they are now, it has to be a spell that targets someone who is not you. No Skywalk, no Shroud of Invisibility (but yes to Substance of Shadow), no Take No Heed.

So to categorize:

Works Well: Illusion, Substance of Shadow, Mockery of Death, Mutable Visage, Mindhole, Universal Confusion
Works Oddly: Pall of Darkness, Marsh Lights (both cause their effect to be coughed up by the target), Magic Alarm (could be used to instantly send a 'ping' to you),
Works Horrifyingly: Shadowsteed, Shadow Knives

also, I just had a thought.

the Matrix plan is a little horrific, Boris wants us to kill his dad, but I don't think he would want it to be painful.

That's on neither of the options? It's either do it and trigger it instantly, so it looks like a natural death (until investigated). Or my crazier Hunting one, where it looks like a miscast on an attempt to make him die in a hunting accident that results in a heart attack.

Dude wants to kill his dad, he's a little beyond morality now. Also, he didn't at all mention to make it kind for his dad, just what would be best politically. Let's not assume that the father killer had a good relationship with his dad without evidence.

[ ] Plan: Spontaneous Heart Attack
-[ ] Sneak into the Tzar's room, use mockery of death on him then implant him with a Matrix loaded with Shadow Dagger loaded. Set the matrix to go off the next day at a time the Tzar is likely to be in a public place.

Keep it simple.

Let's not overcomplicate things.

Quietly as possible with no evidence. "Only could have been done with magic" is a stretch goal, not a requirement.

Just teleport invisibly into his chambers at night and get out with almost zero risk to Mathilde.
As quietly as possible leaving no evidence.

And we don't really want this dude to suffer any, so the spectical is out.

Team night raid.

You need to put an x in brackets for the plan if you want to vote.

No, we want to leave evidence. No evidence is bad, or at least suboptimal. Boris wants to point this at the Lahmians.

Because the spell should leave any external wound. It will look like the Tsar suddenly clutched his chest in pain before keeling over death. Aka a spontaneous heart attack.
