Eyes Open (Worm Quest)

I followed this since the first post, but the other posts were fairly small, so I didn't realize those were updates when I was skimming my notifications.

Woops I guess, I missed quite few votes as well as a bunch of day one posts. At least they seem to have turned out well.

Anyway.

Chapter 11
Do you want to meet the Wards now or later?
[X] Now. (9 Votes)
The Internet is back ^-^ but in exchange, I've had to pull some 12hr shifts so sorry for the wait. Also, I really like the gremlin ideas, it is appreciated, and based on some of the discussion I have changed some background stuff on how your power works. Now you just have to get a chance to start implementing them…
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
You've come to the conclusion that you are small. Triumph is escorting you to meet the Wards on base, which are only Aegis and Vista, and you have to look up to talk to him. In fact, you've had to look up at everyone! It's stupid and unfair and you resolve to get tall shoes or something.

You've been watching everyone you can and your brain has been squirming almost constantly but it has started to lessen and is instead replaced with the start of a headache. You ignore it and keep walking behind Triumph matching your footsteps with his. More winding paths and white halls pass your peripheral vision until you step into an elevator.

You blink and rub your eyes a bit, a bit worried that this is going to turn into a bad headache like yesterday. Do you have a medical condition? Other than having thin skin and darkness for a body… Does light make your head hurt? No, you were in the sun all day and it didn't hurt until you were getting close to bed.

"What's got you thinking so hard?" Triumph asks with a small smile. "You're not nervous are you?" You take a second to think about that before shaking your head.

"No. My head is starting to hurt and I don't know why."

"Oh, when did it start?"

"Walking down the hall. It was fine when I woke up and then when we were sitting down but then it just started."

"Do you want to hold off on meeting the others?" You can see he looks a little concerned.

"No! It's not too bad." You cross your arms to make a point.

"Alright." He relents and the elevator doors open.

You exit into another featureless hallway and you idly wonder how anyone remembers where they're going. Triumph guides you around a few more corners and to a double door equipped with extra metal reinforcements accompanied by a lot of buttons on the wall next to it. He types something in and an otherwise normal portion of the wall suddenly glows red with the word 'Wait'.

"That lets them put their masks on," Triumph explains.

"Why do they need masks?" You ask and adjust yours, remembering it's there.

"So that bad guys can't find out our identities and target our families." Your brow furrows at that.

"But I don't have a family so why did they want me to have one?"

"Because when you do get a family then you can go out and do things with them." You nod. You'll ask again later because you're pretty sure you will still have no eyes when you get adopted.

The red light fades and a loud Click is heard, Triumph pushes into a small room with doors at the other end. You follow and the door behind you locks and a few seconds later the doors in front of you open. The space you are led into is tall, maybe a bit more than double the height of the hallway, and It is shaped like a stop sign if the sign had an extra side.

You can see the two other people, your coworkers now, sitting down. A young girl wearing green is sitting at a large computer featuring multiple screens in two rows and the other is a boy lying on the couch wearing a loose tee shirt featuring a basketball, who looks older. Both of them are looking at you but you can't tell their expressions with their masks. Triumph drops his hand onto your head. He tries to ruffle your hair but your hood is up so all that happens is your hood gets twisted and blocks half your vision.

"Alright, you two! I want a warm welcome for your newest teammate."

"Unless you guys are lame, then I'll quit." You interject and wiggle out from under his hand and fix your hood.

You see the girl break out into a grin that's visible from your spot across the room. Then she isn't across the room, but sitting next to you and your mind writhes and your headache kicks up another notch.

"I'm Vista, what's your name?" She asks in a pleasant voice.

"Olivia." You say confused. You look and see that the floor is… shrunk? Not quite but it's also not… not? You're not quite sure how to describe the change in the room's shape but this side now connects to the other side.

"No, your cape name." She says.

"Why would I name my cape?" Now it's her turn to be confused as she furrows her brows at you.

"You don't know what capes are?"

"She's a 53," Triumph interjects before you can rebuttal that you do know what capes are but not why you would name one.

"Oh." a voice to your side speaks and you turn to see the boy from the couch standing next to you, making your mind squirm and your head hurt even more. "Well, we'll be sure to show you the ropes." He says with a smile.

"Great!" You force out. You rub your eyes, well, where your eyes should be, as your brain starts to thump to a nonexistent heartbeat. Why? You didn't even do anything.

"Hey, Olivia? You okay?" One of them asks.

Best not tempt destiny and end up passing out mid-introductions. Though maybe this means we should've hold-off on meeting the Wards ig

Honestly not too sure what our powerset even is but it sure sounds like ye typical thinker headache, so I assume it's most certainly not going to 'get better'

I am going to be honest, I have no idea how to describe flying as I despise it IRL so hopefully I did an alright job.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
You shake your head side to side, a bad idea that you won't be repeating as it feels like your brain sloshes in your skull, and pat your cheeks. You're Olivia and won't be taken down by a little pain. You open your eyes and see Triumph looking at you concerned while the other two look a bit lost.

"I'm fine." It comes out a bit harsher than you intended but you're not going to take it back, instead, you look to the girl.

"What's your name?" She beams and hops out of the chair giving a small bow.

"I am Vista! I'm really happy you're joining, I've been hoping another girl would sign on."

"It's nice to meet you." You say easily saying that she is actually eager for you to join.

"And I am Aegis." The boy says.

"Cool." You say waving to him. "Now what?" You ask.

"What do you– oh right. Well, do you have any idea what you can do?" Triumph asks.

"Do? I can run." You say. You can read too, you should've said that too.

"I think he means powers-wise," Aegis says.

He then begins floating.

You ignore your throbbing head and walk over to him. You crouch down and wave your hand under his feet, finding only air. He can fly. Right superpowers. Can you fly? You think about being off the ground but nothing happens. You look up at him and see him smiling at you before changing positions to laying on thin air.

"Pick me up." You demand.

"What?" He asks.

"Piggyback ride. I wanna fly and you can fly so give me a ride." It's pretty simple you think.

"Uh, sure." He says landing on the ground and crouching a bit.

You immediately clamber onto his back and are able to see the other over Aegis' shoulder, Triumph is smiling and Vista has a complicated look on her face.

"Do you want to join?" You ask her.

"Hmm?" Her expression clears and she shakes her head. "No that's okay."

"You sure? Because I'll be flying and you won't be."

"I know." You shrug.

"Where to ma'am?" Aegis asks. You look around properly for the first time.

There is the entrance you came from of course and on either side of it, the walls are empty. On the left side of the room, there is a small kitchen and dining table area, and next to it is a small living room with a big TV. Lastly on the left side is an area with a few weirdly shaped tables.

On the right side, there is a big map of a city, the one you are currently in most likely, with a number of lights, sticky notes, markings, and other details all over it. Beside the wall-sized map is a table area with a whiteboard that reminds you of the meeting room where you met Mrs.… You met Triumph and the three other adults. Lastly on the right side is the big computer that Vista is sitting at while standing beside you, embedded in the wall next to the desk you can see a hallway as well.

The room suddenly starts to expand, the ceiling getting farther away and the room is suddenly twice as large.

"Thanks, Vista," Aegis says, and then you are in the air.

You feel the air go past your face and your stomach drops and your head throbs but it doesn't matter because you are flying! Your hands grip Aegis tight as he starts to circle around. You feel… weightless. It's weird because you didn't feel heavy when on the ground but this is something else, it's less physical. Aegis shifts positions so that he is parallel to the ground and you seize the chance to stand up, surfing on his back. You close your eyes and spread your arms, it is like you are flying under your own power, able to go anywhere.

Then Aegis tilts a bit and you are falling, which gives you the less fun feeling of gravity pulling you back down to the Earth.

Your eyes fly open and see the ground getting further away instead of getting closer as Vista does something with her hands, your brain squirms for a second before going quiet as the distance continues to increase. Then you are being held under your armpits and you are quickly having your feet but on the floor. The three of them are crowding around you and your head is pounding as they talk over each other and you can't understand what they're saying, you do manage to catch a few words about how you're feeling which gives you something to springboard onto.

"I'm fine!" You say, squeezing out of the huddle. Then wince as your head throbs and the edges of your vision go fuzzy and you see double for a second before blinking it away.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't expect—" You cut Aegis off.

"That was awesome! Drop me again. Oh! Maybe— no. That would be bad, I don't have a landing strategy. Maybe if I strapped pillows across my body?" No, that wouldn't work for super-high heights. Maybe a trampoline? One of those small ones? Do they have small trampolines? Probably. Maybe I could hire a truck driver to follow me around with a truck of mattresses?

Your mind spins with ideas as you try to figure out the landing half of jumping because that was fun and you are differently doing it again.

"Let's not do that okay?" Triumph says while gesturing with his hands.

"You're not the boss of me." You retort.

"Yeah… I sort of am." Oh, right.

"So you're not bothered by almost falling?" Vista asks, to which you wave your hand.

"Nah. It was fun! It felt like my stomach was climbing up my throat which was super weird but cool." You are suddenly assaulted by a wave of vertigo and your vision doubles as you tilt backward and fall onto your butt.

You squeeze your eyes shut. Pulsing waves of pain feel like they are crushing your brain in a vice lined with razor blades made of acid. You try to push the pain back like you have been but all you manage to do is dampen it a bit. You force your eyes open a bit and see that the world's color has drained as the brightness seems to have been increased by a few levels. You see Triumph say something to the other two before Vista is suddenly back on the other side of the room and Aegis is floating back to the couch, both of which have you squeezing your eyes shut as you feel spikes crawl from the back of your eyes and into your mind.

"My headache got worse." You whisper because you can feel that talking louder would hurt.

"I think you're having a Thinker-Headache Olivia," Triumph says softly, next to you. "You weighed fifty pounds right?" You hear him mutter to himself.

You also hear a cupboard opening and pills rattling. You don't remember being near a cupboard and peeking out from your eyelids see that the kitchen is warped around you in a weird half-dome sort of shape with a path leading to the hallway that was next to the computer. The hall is now far away from Vista and the computer and you just close your eyes because looking at the twisted space is making you dizzy. You feel your hands being opened, something you let happen, and a cup is put in one hand and a small thing in the other which you are guessing is a pill.

"Alright. We don't have any Thinkers on the team so I don't know the— I'll just tell you later. Take this Aspirin it should help a bit, then we'll go to a dark room." You nod and immediately regret it as it feels like a phantom version of your head follows the action.

You put the pill in your mouth and swallow it with some water. You try to anyway because you can still feel the water in your mouth. Right, you don't have a throat. You can't tell Triumph that though on account of your mouth currently being full of water so you get to your feet and spit into the sink that is twisting up and past your head.

"Bad with pills?" Triumph asks, you don't know what that means but can tell heis asking for an explanation.

"I don't have a throat. Can't swallow the water."

"Oh. Uh. Okay, let's just go to one of the spare rooms then."

You follow Triumph across the warped room with squinting eyes and are lead to a hall of twelve doors, six on each side. He walks down the hall and you can see some of the doors are decorated but you don't stop to actually look as he opens one of the doors for you.

"Here, I'll call whoever is on duty and ask if there is anything we're supposed to do. In the meantime sleep if you can or just lay down, it should help a bit." You slip past him and he closes the door, leaving it open a slight bit before leaving.

You don't look around the sort of large but empty room and just beeline for the bed. You slowly get on top of the blankets and decide to take his advice and try to sleep.

You close your eyes.

You open your eyes to a blurry and out-of-focus barren landscape. There are gorges carved deep into the bare rock underfoot with thick, black liquid running along the bottom. There is a waterfall of the same liquid pouring from above and you look up to see a—

You wake up to your thoughts being blended up and scattered around like silly putty. It feels like your brain is made of paper being dragged over glass shards. The pain fades quickly and you are left lying dazed, staring up at the blank ceiling.

All my free time got sucked up between 12 hr shifts and physical therapy, sorry for the wait ^-^

You quickly get yourself back together, hop off the bed, and decide to look around the room a bit. There is the bed you were sleeping on of course, a desk with a computer and chair, an empty bookshelf, and a dresser with a mirror on it. There is also a door that opens into a small closet. All in all, the room is rather big without feeling empty.

Computers have information on them, right? And you want to know more. So you should use it!

You glance at the now closed door before launching yourself into the spinny chair that was in front of the desk. Was because it, and you, are very much rolling across the room and towards the wall. You try to spin yourself around by your feet don't reach the ground and you end up slamming into the wall with a clatter of plastic. You follow up this performance by tilting too far on the unsteady chair and falling onto the floor with a louder rendition of thin plastic meeting a hard surface. You lay on the ground and take stock. You're not hurt and that was fun but you're going to have to figure out a way to keep yourself from falling over, another reason to dislike being short.

There is a knock on the door, a bit soft but still very much audible.

You get to your feet and straighten out your clothes. The clothes you slept in, ew. You push the thought to the side since you don't know what else you would be wearing. You open the door and see an older boy standing in the doorway.

"Who are you?" You demand and get ready to slam the door shut.

"It's me, Triumph." You look him up and down. The voice matches but this is not Triumph.

"No, you're not." You start to close the door.

"Yes, I am."

"Nuh-uh."

"Yeah huh."

"Nuh-uh."

"Uh-huh."

"Nuh-uh."

"Uh-huh." The boy blinks hard and runs a finger up and down between his eyes. "Here, let me prove it."

He crosses the hall and opens up the room there, he then pulls Triumph's mask off the wall and puts it on. That only proves he knows where Triumph sleeps. The boy then puts the mask on and shifts his stance and you are suddenly looking at Triumph.

"Woah." Does he have the power to change who he is? Crap! You never learned what Vista can do.

Triumph takes off the mask and shifts his posture and the only reason you can tell their the same person is because you saw the mask come off. He puts the mask back up and shuts his door as he walks over.

"Now that that's cleared up. I heard a crash, what happened?" He asks looking over your head and at the toppled chair. You quickly step forward and shut the door behind you.

"Nothing. Uh, nope. Are you hearing things?"

"Alright well in a few hours, you'll be going to go down to the labs for power testing, and then depending on how long that takes maybe meet with the Director. In the meantime, you can go back to sleep or chill out in the main room. You're just not allowed to go into the headquarters at large without an escort right now."

"Why can't I go into the headquarters?" You ask, crossing your arms.

"Because you're not technically a member yet and might get into trouble. Now, I'm going back to sleep, it's very late so try to stay quiet?" You nod because you have no idea how late it is and waking people up is kind of mean.

He waves at you and goes back into his room. Once his door is shut you open yours and slip into the room. Examining the chair you see one of the wheels is gone and a basic search of the area doesn't turn it up. You set the chair upright again and get into it less enthusiastically.

You poke around for a minute or two before a half-remembered echo guides you to actually using the computer. Your access is blocked by a password and username screen but you find the guest option pretty quickly, and since you're a guest you chose it, and you are in.

You start poking around and find a box you can type into. You type in 'What are pairahumens?' and a long list of options pops up. One that catches your eye is a smaller option under a big one titled 'The TRUTH about parahumans' and so you click it and start reading.

'fIrst things first! We all know that parahumans have been around since the egyptian's were a big deal right? Well…'

A knocks interrupted Your explorations are a few hours later. You slide off of the chair and make your way to the door, opening it up you see a tall blue armored man.

"Are you Olivia?" He asks in a sharp baritone. You squint your eyes at him.

"Maybe. Why?"

"I'm here to take you to power testing."

"Oh, right." You glance back at the computer before waving it off and stepping into the hallway. "What's your name?"

"I am Armsmaster." You look at his arms but they look… You can't actually see them under the armor so you're not sure.

"I am Oliva." You nod. He nods. He then starts guiding you out of the hall and toward the exit across the room.

Aegis is sitting on the computer now and you both wave as you pass, the room is otherwise empty.

"What were you doing on the computer?" Armsmaster asks.

Your eyes go wide as you realize you can't remember anything specific about anything you were doing on the computer. It had aliens and pyramids? You don't know why they were saying aliens made shapes but it was something to read. Why did you start reading it again? … You can't remember. It was kind of crazy, you didn't understand like 70% of it but even you could tell it wasn't a trustworthy source.

"Uh. Something to do with aliens? I think. I don't really know what it was about." The doors shut and Armsmaster makes a humming sound as the set leading into the base as a whole opens.

"I would suggest not tainting your learning process with conspiracy theories from PHO." He says leading you through the halls. You pull your hood up and focus on the back of his boots.

"What is a conspiracy theory?"

"It is the belief that the government or other powerful groups are controlling certain events to achieve a certain goal."

"What goal?"

"That depends on the theory."

"Oh. So are aliens real?" You ask, they were talked about a lot in the stuff you read.

"Statistically, yes, but there is no evidence to say they have ever visited Earth or even know of our existence."

"So they didn't make the pyramids?"

"No." You nod. You are going to have to ask him more history questions.

"What are the pyramids?"

"Do you mean the shape or the structure?"

"Uh."

"We can continue this discussion later, we have arrived."

You look up and see that you are in front of another set of double doors and come to the conclusion that… whoever you joined deemed double doors to be used for important things. We step inside and you look around a room that is about as big as the Wards room, if that room was a rectangle like this one. There are pods throughout the room with at least one person at each one.

"We have a bigger testing room on the Rig. I'll be waiting for you outside the doors, Dr. Turner will take it from here." He says motioning to an approaching man holding a clipboard.

"Okay. See you in a bit?" He nods and steps back outside.

"Please shut your eyes," Turner says as he gets within speaking range.

"No?" You say furrowing your eyebrows.

"Can you turn around before I explain things to you then?"

"Are you shy?"

"No. It has to do with the testing." Your internal gall at being told what to do wars with your want to know what your superpower is. The superpowers side wins for now and you close your eyes but you will find a way to get back at the doctor.

"Thank you. Now, we were informed that you have already experienced two Thinker-Headaches, and our priority today is to find the cause of that and figure out a way to prevent it from happening. We don't want you to be in pain more than necessary."

"Why are my eyes closed though."

"A good number of Thinker powers rely on sight and considering the way your eyes are it is the best starting point we could determine. Now, can you tell me anything about your powers? Anything strange you've noticed? Not about your body I mean, we can get to that later."

You think about it, not having a heartbeat or a throat are body things, same is probably true for not getting tired. Hmmm. Your skin coming off is definitely a body thing but you swear something else… Maybe your brain squirming? Your brain is part of the body though so not that.

"No. Everything I can think of has been body stuff."

"Alright, we can start with that then. There is a chair set up nearby, I want you to try and get to it with your eyes still closed."

"That's stupid, I can't see it."

"That's the point. We want to see if you are able to sense things without your eyes." Oh, that makes more sense.

With that, you choose a direction and boldly walk that way. You can't see anything but you do hear some voices speaking so you angle yourself towards them. It feels like you are walking forever before you run into what feels like an arm.

"Alright, keep your eyes closed please."

"Did I get it?" You ask, feeling around the area a bit.

"No. I'm going to go fetch the chair so one moment." Dr. Turner quickly returns and guides you onto an uncomfortable chair. "Now, go ahead and start telling me everything you've noticed and we will test them in a bit."

"Well first my skin comes off, but it doesn't hurt. I don't have a throat or a heartbeat. Lastly, my brain feels like it is… wiggling sometimes."

"Let's start with that brain thing. Have you noticed when it happens?"

"No. It just does sometimes."

"Hmm. Has it done it today at all?" You think about it. The feeling is so unique you would be able to remember it but nothing from today comes up so you shake your head. "Hmm. Okay, I am going to play a series of sounds and I want you to try to tell me what they are from or other details in as much detail as you can."

"Why?"

"We are testing to so if your Thinker power is sound-based."

"What is a Thinker power?"

"It's a– Has anyone told you the power classifications yet?"

"Whats a classifumcation?"

"Classification." He briefly corrects. "The different kinds of powers are Movers, who can fly or run fast. Shakers, who do things in large areas. Brutes, who have superhuman toughness or strength. Breakers change states. Masters control minions. Tinkers make sci-fi technology. Blasters, who shoot lasers or fireballs. Thinkers, who have some sort of enhanced senses or extra brainpower. Strikers have touch-based powers. Changers transform. Trumps mess with other powers. Lastly, Strangers can turn invisible or walk through walls." It sounds like he is repeating a rehearsed line but you don't mind because you latch onto the first and last sentences.

"I want the one that lets me fly and one that lets me go invisible!"

"Unfortunately the ability to choose powers is incredibly rare."

"Oh." Well, you have Aegis so it's fine.

"Yes, now to the test."

The doctor plays sounds and you describe them as best you can, but most are just beeps of different volume and length. There is one that sounded like a 'WOOooOOoOoOooOO' which was weird. It takes a bit and you are getting tired of holding your eyes shut.

"I'm going to open my eyes now." You state.

"Alright, it doesn't seem to be sound-based anyway. Let me know if you get the 'wiggling' feeling though."

You sigh with relief and stretch out as you open your eyes. You blink a few times as your eyes quickly adjust to the light again. You take the chance to examine Dr. Turner closer. He has a doctor's coat on and you can see the collar of something poking up and he is wearing black slacks. His hair is reddish and combed to one side. You also look around the room a bit more and see all sorts of devices and doohickies that you mentally note down to steal for later.

"Now what?"

"If you'll follow me over to this table." He says standing up and rolling his chair to a table set to the side with a few things on it. You roll your chair after him and sit across from him.

"What now?"

"Now we need to test what sort of Thinker you are." He pulls out a deck of cards and shuffles them. "Now, can you tell me what is on the other side of the card on top?"

"No? Why would I be able to do that?"

"Some people can."

"Woah." You're not sure what being able to see how seeing the back of cards would be helpful but you are sure it could be somehow.

"Indeed. Do you know how many cards are in this deck?" He says holding it so you can see the side. You try to count the layers but that doesn't work so you try to guess based on how thick you think they are.

"Thirty-two?" He jots something down and then points to a far wall.

"Can you tell me what's on the other side of that wall?" You have no idea what that could even mean so you just shake your head.

"You're sure that it doesn't happen at any trigger?"

"Does what happen?"

"The, wiggling, as you put it." Oh, with your head.

"Nope. It just does it."

"Hmm. Do you often get the feeling of Déjà Vu?" You tilt your head.

"Huh?"

"Do you often get the feeling of Déjà Vu?" He repeats.

"I have no idea what that is." You say honestly.

"It's Déjà Vu, that doesn't help. It's the feeling of having done or experienced something before." You think about it but that doesn't sound familiar at all.

"Nope!" His face scrunches up for a moment before he reaches over to a box.

"Okay. When I press this button a light is going to appear on the front. I want you to try and tell me what the color is going to be before that happens."

"Just guess?"

"Or try to use your power." You concentrate on the vox but nothing comes to mind, he clicks it and lights up yellow.

"Yellow!" You shout, trying to say it right away.

"A bit after but good try." He says and returns to looking at his clipboard.

You are starting to get a bit agitated. You thought this was supposed to be learning what you can do, not what you can't. You watch Dr. Turner hard, trying to get something to happen. He starts to spin his pen and your brain squirms.

"There!" You shout. "It did it." He freezes for a second and then looks up at you.

"Alright! Let me…" He goes silent for a few seconds. "Anything then?"

"No. Why?"

"I was repeating my plans in my head, how about…" His head bobs from side to side before he looks at his pen.

His lips press together and he brings the hand holding the pen to the center of the table and then twirls it, and your brain squirms.

"There, it happened again. What are you doing?" You ask, trying to see if it's a special pen.

"Testing a theory…" He says and your brain writhes, before you can speak up though he turns and yells at one of the people at a computer off to the side "Hey Jacob! You said you can juggle right?"

"Yeah, why?" A dark-skinned man with a big beard yells back while standing up.

"Grab some stuff to juggle. Got a theory." He yells back before turning to you. "Alright, I'll have you watch him juggle. If I'm right your power should register it." Jacob grabs a pill bottle, a rubberband ball, and two small oranges.

"I swear to God Tony, if you're just doing this for no reason I'm gonna eat everything you got in the fridge." With that threat, he starts to juggle, and almost immediately your brain squirms.

"It did it! Why?" You demand.

"I think it's activating from the use of skills. Why I don't know, something to test for later. If it is giving you thinker headaches so easily though we need to find a way to stop it from activating… Keep juggling!" He calls back before holding up a sheet of paper. "Here cover your eyes with this and look towards him." You take the paper and do as he says. "Is it activating?"

"No, it's not. So I have to see someone doing something?" You say, dropping the paper back onto the table.

"That's a good point." You feel confused because that wasn't really a response. "Here." He pops the color box, device, thing, open and slides the glass out of it. "Look through this and tell me if your power activates."

You take it, closing one eye because the glass isn't very big, and look at the juggling. Your power doesn't activate, you move the glass and feel it start up again. You do it a few times and the glass is definitely stopping your power from doing… whatever it's doing.

"It works." You say putting the glass on top of the paper from a moment ago. "Now what? What is it doing?" You ask.

"No idea." Dr. Turner glances at his wrist, where there isn't a watch. "We'll have to find out next time because your booked time is over. Since we're not in the middle of anything Armsmaster is going to want you on schedule. Let me…"

He gets up, hollering at Jacob that he can stop and that, yes, it was for something and begins to search the various drawers in one of the 'stations' on the right side of the room. He collects some items and returns them, setting them on the table. There are three eye coverings, a cheap pair of square plastic sunglasses, a pair clear of safety glasses that sort of curve, and a pair of dark goggle things.

"I'll have you wear one of these until tomorrow's appointment. We don't know what your power is doing yet but it seems to need an unbroken line of sight so this is a good stop-gap. Should also help with the Thinker-Headaches"

Which pair of eye coverings do you take?
[X][Eyes] The sunglasses.
[X][Eyes] The safety glasses.
[X][Eyes] The goggles.
[X][Eyes] Refuse all.

How do you want to act with the Director?
[X][Director] They seem to be everyone's boss based on how people talk about them, try to be nice.
[X][Director] Play up the kid angle, and ask lots of questions about everything.
[X][Director] Write-In:

How much detail do you want with the power testing scenes?
[X][Testing] Less, skip to any revelations and lightly cover the inbetween.
[X][Testing] Current amount, this chapter was good.
[X][Testing] More, more detail overall.

As much as I want us to be the cool kid with sunglasses, the ones offered are cheap and I refuse to be the type of person that wears sunglasses indoors. If/when we get into costume design, I will fully endorse demanding a pair of ray-ban aviators.
As for the director interaction, she's our boss's boss's boss. Let's attempt to be polite so we don't get kicked out of our new job.

Also, we will eventually meet Clockblocker and Assault. We must combine our powers to form a gremlin Voltron. No getting shitcanned until we can make it worth it or if I think of/support a funny enough vote option.
