[X]Ask to see the copy of the Necronomicon
-[X] Do not read it directly.
-[X] Look into the professor's papers and research notes on them first instead. Portaling to Red realm to consult Emily later if needed.
-[X] Explain you are a family friend trying to get treatment for the Professor. You need to first understand the source of his madness to get him the right help.
-[X] Ask Professor Herbert if he has any further insights.

We need to utilise action economy a bit better.. Necronomicon is interesting as hell but we should implement some caution I think.

I would suggest we do the easy stuff first, and leave the harder questions to the end of the conversation.

The amount of time spent per vote seems very fluid in this quest, but we are having a conversation right now so it probably won't be more then a few minutes for simple questions.

The Necronomicon
The necronomicon. You were fairly sure you had heard of the book before, but you weren't actually sure where. It did seem like a possible lead on whatever might have tagged back with Professor Hebert, so you were swift to request to view the copy that he had brought back.

Professor Ashley wasn't too pleased with the request. This wasn't because of personal dislike, or argument with Professor Hebert Cowan. No, this was because he saw you as someone worthwhile and prestigious, and he didn't want you falling into similar follies as Professor Hebert had in researching the blasted thing. You persuaded him that you would be careful, and had experience dealing with such things thanks to your connections, and he gave in to let you see it.

It was immediately obvious that this book had been crafted with power. Interestingly, the book did not seem to possess power in and of itself, merely traces from its creation. The leather covering the book didn't have writing on it, but opening it you could see runes carefully stitched along the edges.

The inside of the book was both disappointing and intriguing. It was very obvious this was an incomplete copy. The page numbers jumped around, only numbering around 200 available in the book. Many of the pages were torn, or so stained that they were unreadable. You skimmed through the ones you could read, picking up on sentences speaking of gods and essesnces beyond time, and old rituals. There were sketches and diagrams that you could tell were copies, as they didn't fit all the dimensions that they should have onto the paper. You could feel your hands itching to draw it yourself and correct it.

You found a spell to turn a man into an animal, the spell burning into your mind as you stared at the grotesque imagery of a man in agony slowly changing forms over the course of several days into a sheep. You needed-you needed-

Sanity Roll
DC: 14
Roll: 3(+3)=6

You blinked, finding yourself seated in your hotel room. Your arms were bleeding. It looked like you had drawn your own blood to mix with your paint. A canvas depicting a creature with too many limbs and shifting skin stood before you. How much time had you lost?

Gained a portrait that may summon a creature

[ ]Ask what Professor Herbert's research focused on
[ ]Ask about Professor Ashley's disagreements with Professor Herbert
[ ]Visit the professor's home
[ ]Look into news archives for what has been written about Professor Herbert's travels in the past-perhaps he brought something back that didn't get along with him
[ ]Check on the professor's neighbors to see if they are also ill
[ ]Write-in

Ow. We should have asked the other questions first.

Didn't take any sanity damage, but we lost time. Probably should depose of that portrait, or at least put it somewhere very secure.

-[X] Make sure the portrait is locked somewhere secure first. Check how much time you lost.

[X] Burn the portrait

I don't think we should destroy the portrait right away, it could be useful in the future, for now we can just lock it up somewere and then study it later to see if it is dangerous.

that may summon a creature

This seems to be in the same caliber of the Runes which we turned down.. that evoked something greater and unknown. Of course eldritch entities would want a foothold. And they might not be like Nemo with whom we share history and have sway over. I suspect we blacked out because of Isis's influence guarding our mind.

We might burn the portrait, but the knowledge stays. To be used in other means in ways we actually want to use them instead of chance. If the mythos taught us anything, nothing good ever comes from the Necronomicon.

And it makes for an interesting narrative. The same way we fought off Hunger and the Runes..

I love it.

[X] Burn the painting in a pyre dedicated to Isis
[X] Check how much time you lost.

[X] Portal to Red realm to consult Emily
-[X] Do not expose her to the Necronomicon papers or bring them to the realm
-[X] Tell her about your trance and how you got drawn in
-[X] Talk about your suspicions about how the Professor might have fallen in a similar fate, and your concerns about the plague

[X] Confront the professor about what he has done with the Necronomicon.
-[X] Tell him there is a plague ravaging the city and he must help put a stop to it.

Not that sure about the last one though.. but we might be out of time.

Recovery and Research
How long had you spent painting? You checked, and found it was early into the next day. You cleaned up the best that you could, hiding the painting away. You needed to do something with it, but you weren't sure what. You ended up sending it to Emily, warning her that it was possibly dangerous and to not look. Hopefully the poet would listen, but even if she didn't she had much stronger protections than you did.

You awkwardly returned to the university to ask about what Professor Herbert's research had focused on. He turned out to be a "folklore specialist", a common name for those who studied the occult in the university. Specifically he had been spending his time since gaining the necronomicon doing his best to study and understand it.

[X] Next go to the Asylum and talk to the professor if he's better and gently bring up Necronomicon.
-[X] Tell him there is a plague ravaging the city and he must help put a stop to it.
-[X] Tell him you know how dangerous it is and you must know what happened with his research. What did he stumble upon?

We invested in a ritual to give him Sanity and time has passed. And we bribed the facility to treat him better. So maybe there's rapport for the Roll? Let's just ask him, so we can start preparing for the fight encounter. Before the plague gets worse. Only headway we made is that the book is the involved.

Really worried about Emily too. But we didn't send her the book directly so maybe things are fine. She can help investigate if the creature in the painting is connected with the professor and plague.

Yeah I'm taking that warning seriously. We got off lightly all things considered (Assuming the painting doesn't do anything horrible behind our backs. If we are lucky Emily might have something interesting to tell us about it after.)

Interesting how knowledgeable the professors seem to be about the occult. I'm just imagining Oliver sheepishly approaching Professor Ashley and apologizing for the temporary bout of insanity, while the professor just scoffs like it's just business as usual.

I now imagine the Miskatonic University begin full of occultists and sorcerers, with crazy shit happening evey day araound the campus. But at this point everybody is so used to it that they don't notice anymore.

An invisible monster is haunting the dormitories? Who cares! I need to study for the antropology exam!

A cult i preparing human sacrifices in the main hall? I hope this will not make me come late to class.

Somebody stole the Necronomicon from the library? Again?! The librarian will be pissed off, but don't be alarmed. The accursed book will return in a week or two. It always does.
