I like that solution too. So we're doing it.

You can apply this bonus to any non-combat roll. This includes social combat, like this here trial.

Two judges are firmly on your side with three leaning your way. One judge is firmly on Horra's side and two lean his way. One judge is undecided — who, as it turns out, is the elephant merchant...
Judges

Firm Halla

The Blacksmith (whose name we don't know?
Audrikr Fishfighter

Leaning Halla

3x ???

Neutral

The Elephant Merchant

Leaning Horra

2x ???

Firm Horra

Mr. Bribed

We need to get 7 on our side to win. That's honestly looking pretty tough even with utterly damning evidence.

Unknown: Haleikr, Haklangr's brother

This should be 2x, the ones 'leaning Horra' include the bribed guy and there are only 9 judges.

Not really? We're almost certain to sway the elephant merchant with the revelation that Horra stole it, so we only need to flip one of the others. We haven't won yet, but I think we have good odds.

Fixed.

Hopefully!

If nothing else we can shove Odr/Orthsirr when we roll out the damning evidence.
The Lawspeaker is an aged man with deeply carved wrinkles. A single eye peers from that wizened old face, the other closed shut for the rest of time — a recent wound, or so goes the rumors. His shoulders are broad and his body still healthy, but this is a man whose time has long since passed.
Someone is doing his best Odin impression.

Is 'Old One-Eye' a positive or negative kenning to give someone? Is it even a kenning that can be given?

So... does popping your Aspects in the middle of a trial look bad? Also, does it have any sort of requirement on how much orthstirr you have? Like, it seem like it'd be something that Horra could also be doing, you know?

I suppose it would at least let others judge your aspects, and that's something that Horra might not want to do in front of us and everybody. For that matter, Halla's running a bit low from where people might have expected her to.

If Horra's aspects look shit as hell that might outweigh any benefit from stoking his aspects.

I do plan to use my reward dice if the Trial looks like it's going south, at any rate. Hopefully that doesn't happen, as I would rather spend them on Odr Hints and Child Trait rolls, stuff like that.

Speculation isn't lying. Only speaking deliberate falsehoods is. Anyone who's seen a Congressional Hearing could tell you that so long as wiggle room exists against consequence, the bullshit can flow endlessly.
But then we can call him out on being a wiggly Odrengskapr and challenge him to state his claims directly under oath, like a Drengskapr would, like we are.

[X] Plan: Start with the Reason

Guys, i just remembered. But isn't Horra allied with the people of Buriby? Osborn farm?

Maybe they will hide him if he gets Outlawed. Or fight at his side against us.

That was years ago, we probably should have checked. They absolutely are against us, since Halla killed one of the children.

I mean, not really? They're stated to have loads of children, and he was fine enough that he chose to pay a weregild instead of pursuing vengeance. Not to mention we've never seen them start shit in the Valley once, besides that incident on the lake.

Don't get me wrong, I think they'd move against us if they had the opportunity to, but that's the thing - they're opportunistic if anything, not the kind of people that'd go after us actively. As long as we don't appear weak they'll leave us alone for the most part, probably. If Horra does get outlawed, I don't see why they'd hide him, considering they'd put themselves at risk and don't gain much from it.

Not likely. The kids hang out, but they aren't officially allies and Burri and his family aren't the sorts to stick their necks out for anyone. They're greedy opportunists, not personally invested in our failure or anything as a family. And Horra is not the sort to inspire great personal loyalty. I'm not sure his kids are even gonna back him if he gets outlawed, never mind his allies.

We paid weregild and there's no official feud. Osborn specifically hates our guts, but he's very much not in charge.

@Imperial Fister, how exactly does Nid work mechanically? I understand that certain actions and inactions cause it, but how much orthstirr would it actually remove? Is it a fixed value or a percentage?

It's obviously proportional to the severity of what caused it, but approximately how much would be lost from, for example, Halla letting slander about her combat skills slide?

I'm sorry if this has already been answered, but it's quite easy to miss something like that in the 500+ pages of thread.

It hasn't actually been answered. All we know is that it's a flat amount based on the offense, just as deeds are a flat gain, rather than a percentage. Exact amounts are unclear.

Anywhere from 4–40 (not a fixed range by any means)

Truly suffering from success.

In all seriousness, I'll never be mad or irritated about answering questions.

Hey Blackhand, did you ever try revealing knowledge of Odr or The Enemy while beyond Norse Lands?
