John placed the pile of armor on the desk, the portly man sitting behind the counter reading a guns magazine looked surprised.
"Dam John, what's this about?"
John glanced around for a bit "I got jumped a few weeks ago, Some stuff to ensure it doesn't happen again"
David shook his head "This city keeps going down the hole, I'm telling you if the government stops playing around with child soldiers and actually does their job. Well I'd be out of business"
John nods "Well guess your jobs safe then"
David replies "If you want to get safe my cousin is teaching self defense classes at Weymouth Mall, Something like Kestrel dojo or what not. Work better then my gear unless you want to talk to the cops"
"Anyways that'll be 90$"
Getting the other stuff was easy, no one blinked an eye although I did make sure to get the equipment from a few different stores to avoid Suspicion.

John cracked his fingers and typed out the rest of the spreadsheet that he was assigned today. Mind numbing as always but at least it paid. Just a week left on this project then he'd move onto a hopefully more interesting project.
As John stared over the spread sheets for the last week he noticed there were a fair few transactions to WMD without much talk of services rendered. Maybe that was a mistake somewhere or poor accounting but still.

John took the bus to Weymouth Mall and started his search. Online he hadn't seen anything for kestrel dojo but smaller business tended to be a bit slower on those things. After a bit of looking he found himself staring at Kestrel Gym. Guess David got the name wrong.
Walking in he found the usual machines and a large matted area where a burly looking dude was teaching a self defense class. Closer to the front a woman was meaning a desk with a register.
Walking over he inquired "This is where you sign up?"
The woman gave a bright smile "Indeed it is sir, You looking to just get a regular membership or signing up with one of our classes"
John noticed Jolene on her name tag "What kinds of classes do you have running here?"
Jolene gestured towards a white board with a schedule "A decent amount, The self defense ones are the most popular but we also have a first aid refresher course later this month and several others that will start in the spring. We should have a schedule on our website where you can sign up for the classes"
John nodded and soon was signed up for the self defense class.
John left the gym sore and tired but a bit more knowledgeable. Before fully leaving he stopped at an ATM and made a withdrawal. Nothing to large but if he needed to buy something without it getting traced to him it would come in handy

Edit: This one fought me pretty hard but it got out. Anyways let me know if you have any questions or advice.
Do any of us know WMD from lore? It's not Fortress Construction, or Medhall. It could be an acronym for "Weapons of Mass Destruction," which is not reassuring.
@Jack727 How does our hero's company work? How large is it? How many steps between him and the CEO?
Depending on the company, I would feel very tempted to go to my boss - or straight to upper management - and say something like "I've noticed this oddity in our reports. If you already know what's going on, or consider it too small a matter to be worth my time and attention - very well. Otherwise, I'll take a look and try to figure out what's going on."
Of course, this all depends on a bunch of questions. For example, if it turns out this is a money-laundering scheme for a gang, investigating might disrupt our life in a concerning manner - but it could also give us a great opportunity to shoot a fair few outlaws and get a bunch more in prison for who-knows-how-long...
I'm flipping the coin between "don't poop where you sleep - that's the easiest way for your foes to track you down" and "pull the thread. Be the Justice you want to see. Do it."

WMD isn't from the lore, you're pretty sure it's not a Weapon of Mass Destruction but who can really tell.
As for the company there about two layer of management you'd need to talk too before being able to talk to the boss. Feel free to do a write in for bringing it to higher ups attention.
I'm 50/50 on which is the right plan. But here's both possibilities written up; I approve of either.

The moon hung low over Brockton Bay, while outside the sound of traffic had dropped to a lone vehicle on some late-night cruise. A hum of the overhead light and the soft sounds of a ceiling fan added to the ambiance of rustling papers. John dropped another box he'd got out of the back onto his desk. Looking though tax returns was a good way to figure out more about WMD but it was a slow process. He'd been staying after hours to try and sort through them, but they were horribly disorganized. Maybe it was the late night, but he got an idea.
Two days later a paper appeared on Samuel's desk. A project to recognize some of the old files and digitize the useful ones. Sam shrugs and signed off, it needed to be done sooner or later.
WMD, Westmouth Machine Delivery. A local company that deals with custom machined equipment. At least according to their website. The nature of the transactions made john a bit suspicious, but he had a name and an address.

John walked back to his car after an hour-long session at the gym. He was improving rapidly but still got thrown on the mat before long. At least he got a list of exercises he needed to work on although given how sore he was after that thrashing. Good news is that it wasn't some kind of competitive sport that could only be used in certain areas. It was known as Krav Maga, developed in Israel and gained a lot of popularity with the current state of things.

The storeroom had been left untouched for a surprisingly long time. Dust piled thick on every surface and boxes of papers awaited on every shelf. "Why did I think this was a good idea: Muttered John as he carefully lifted a box onto a desk and started looking through it. Profit recordings. Lovely, he set it aside in a stack for one of the interns to scan it later. At least he didn't need to work late anymore.

John cracked his knuckles and booted up the computer. He wasn't the best at computers, but he knew where to look and where people didn't want you to look, and there was a lot they didn't want people to see.
Westmouth Machine Delivery operated out of a warehouse on the outskirts of the city. It had been co owned for a few years before they sold the company to a Carl Taiga. Both of the previous owners had then left town and dropped off the web. Carl had shared pro empire views online and expanded the business rapidly hiring new employees. Nothing about the employees he checked out rang any alarms. After that he didn't dig up anything interesting.
An innocent paper target fluttered in the breeze 80 yards away. John let out a breath before squeezing the trigger until his rifle barked out its shot. Another hole landed in the target, not far from the other holes. Looking around to ensure the range was clear he walked over to switch the target. He'd done his warm ups, now to challenge himself. He smiled as he walked back to the firing line, He'd been away too long.
"Redtail Armaments, this is David speaking. What can I do for you?"
"Hey, this is John, I was wondering if you see what's the highest caliber you have in stock"
"I'd reckon the 308 Winchester is the largest we have in store at the moment I'd have to check"
"And if I want something larger?"
"Well then I'd need to put in a order for it, probably cost a pretty penny as well"
"Alright thanks Dave, I'll call you later"
John hung up, the other gun stores in the area didn't have anything close either and didn't have the connections David did either. Although there was one other place he might try. He'd drifted away from his brother Zander after he joined an end of the world cult out in South Dakota. With all the mutants left from when that nuclear cape ran though the area they'd probably have some firepower.
