Essence of the Age (Exalted Quest)

[X] Train the Candidates in Conquering their Fear: While those like you who could overwhelm the spirit of the uninitiated were rare--you were not unique, and regardless, teaching your candidates to overcome their fear was a boon in any circumstance. (Strengthens the Greycloak Candidates by adding "Resisting Fear" To their Primary Pool)

This is ostensibly their primary purpose.

Yep, that's literally their job. And knowing if threats before they arrive will allow us to better respond. Having powerful soldiers is all well and good, but they're taken by surprise they're less useful.

I'm going to argue in favor of Battle. If we're going to train the Greycloaks, we should first invest in their survival. If they die to the first significant combat they face, then all our actions invested in them will have been wasted.

Yes, our immediate need is to figure out who turned Bryn's family's insides into their outsides, but a) Heels-chan is probably well-equipped to start that process herself, b) whatever monsters lie at the end of that investigation, they probably have allies of their own, and the Greycloaks need to be able to survive their first encounter with a violent spirit, ghost, or wandering hero. Right now we've had two updates devoted to showcasing how weak our mortal allies are, and that's a hole that needs to be patched sooner rather than later.

Also, more updates from Adelmar of Rosalia.

[X] Train the Candidates in the ways of Battle: Arbiter attempts to drill her students in new ways of battle, capable of contesting elites. This would ensure they could better handle getting into trouble without becoming liabilities (Strengthens the Greycloak Candidates by adding a Single Combat to their Primary Pool)

Frankly, all of these things need to be done before our work here can be considered complete. Personally, I see the value in investigating primarily because it allows you to detect the presence of an enemy without directly confronting them. To be honest, if they have to fight an Exalted, it's already a failure. And while Arbiter-chan has excellent interrogation skills, there's only so much in this job that you can do on your own, especially if you have other responsibilities as well. No matter how hard you work, it, unfortunately, does not change the fact that there are still 24 hours in a day.

These are Mortals. They Fall over and Pray. As far as I can tell, turning them into Army Pants might help their odds in a fight, but I'm pretty sure that's down to having their awesome Exalted Boss keeping an eye on them and being nearby when something starts eating them.

Well, that was the plan, and then I ended up getting sidetracked by this and that. To avoid having to do another short post, postponing until monday, at which point I will hopefully have my shit compressed properly.

We're in the north and were protected by Tepet. The fact that Tepet is nearly gone and we were activated because the Dynasty doesn't give a shit about this city-state is the premise. The natural enemy is the Bull of the North.

Eventually, possibly, but the threat to Rozen Bryn is a Great House, per the QM's explicit statement:

Of course, you got this way by depleting at least one Great House of a significant number of operatives and assassins, and they're not going to forget the expense.

Which is just as well, because "fight the Bull as a newly woken Exalt" sounds like the quickest Exalted quest ever. :V

That does beg the question of where we are exactly, though. We're not in any canon polity, I assume, but that still leaves quite a lot of coastline:
Somewhere between Marin Bay and Calin, or parts east, are most likely?

You're on the coast of Malice Bay, with Gethamane due west of you.
