Setting Information
The Solarian Compact:

Initially formed as the Solarian Treaty Organization from the ashes of the old United Nations Security Council, United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, and the Global Climate Relief Organization in the worst decade of Earth's environmental collapse. The STO was originally a body tasked with overseeing the granting of offworld mining permits and the purchase and distribution of the resources to countries struggling from climate change.

The advent of the Korolev-Chandrashker gates and the construction of the first one under STO oversight in 2063 led to the beginning of the transformation of that body into the de facto single governing body of the Human species.

Reorganized into the 'Solarian Compact', the first Charters were granted to massive corporate conglomerates to explore and exploit the cosmos for Humanity with little to no regulation or restriction.

In the early decades, the Solarian Compact oversaw the construction of KC gates in the systems closest to Sol and began the process of granting colonization rights to the most habitable worlds within that region with colonization rights granted to a number of national and international blocks.

With the growth of the Solarian Compact's power came calls for the body to become more representative and democratic, and in 2099, the Solarian Compact held its first elections and constitutional convention, inviting representatives from the Sol system and the five systems that held permanent Human settlement.

Over the course of the 22nd and 23rd centuries the Solarian Compact has held fast to what it sees as its duty to act as the mediator and financier of the Charters, the unifying agent of the disparate first Human colonies, and the guarantor of interstellar peace for Humanity.

As of 2252, the three most important bodies within the Solarian Compact are the Solarian Parliament -Located on Earth, the Solarian Compact Navy -based in the Korolev-Chandrashker system, and the Solarian Central Bank, -based out of the Columbia System.

Organized as a liberal democracy, with universal suffrage, the Solarian Compact is theoretically overseen by three equal institutions: the Solarian Parliament, the office of the Solarian Secretary General, and the Solarian High Court.

Though the Solarian Compact prides itself on being a Constitutional government, the actual original document merely outlines the terms of admitting new MPs and High Court Judges, and the electoral procedures of the Compact Parliament, with subsequent Parliaments meeting to add items like the Declaration of Property Rights, the founding of the Central Bank, the creation of the Solarian Navy, and the Laws on Freedom of Navigation and Travel being added later.

The Solarian Parliament is made up of two thousand six hundred and twenty seats representing ridings on Earth, Columbia, Atlantis, Penglai, Olduvai, and Epsilon which are elected every three years to a Parliament that meets in the New York prefecture of Earth.

Though the many frontier colonies do not have direct representation in the Parliament due to being owned and operated by private entities, their inhabitants are considered 'Absent for Employment' and may register with a home riding and submit a physical ballot (for security reasons) by courier from when polls open until they close. Though this process was suitable for the closely settled regions of space at the time of the ratification of the Compact Constitution in 2100, the rapid growth of Human settled space in the century and a half since has seen the de facto voter suppression of over 90% of Human settled space.

At the first sitting of each new Compact Parliament, the assembled members will elect a Secretary General and a slate of Ministry officials on a majority basis, and those individuals will oversee the executive branch of government and day to day operations. Though the average Compact Parliament contains between seven to nine parties in each Parliamentary sitting, the vast majority of seats belong to one of either the Party for Human Rights and Liberties or the Justice and Development Alliance and have since the very early 2100s. The governments formed this way can be brought down by losing the confidence of the Parliament for example, by failing to pass a budget, the process of finding a majority government will repeat again.

Though a democratic body that has maintained stability for over a century and a half, the Solarian Compact Parliament has been dogged by accusations of dynastic politics, Charter influence, voter suppression, regulatory capture, inability to reign in the Banks and MIlitary, and corruption at all levels.

Separate from the Parliament is the Solarian High Court that consists of eleven judges that serve terms of up to thirty-three years, with each new sitting of the Compact Parliament selecting one judge from a list provided by the governments of the six main worlds of the Solarian Compact. The High Court rules on matters of adherence of laws to the Solarian Constitution, and have been accused of serving as an arm of the Charters, though this has been strenuously contested by the Solarian legal profession as a whole.

By law the Solarian Compact also oversees a number of other important institutions including the Earth Reconstruction Commission (In a permanent public-private partnership with the Earth Reconstruction Association), the Solarian Central Bank, and the Solarian Compact Navy, though these important institutions often exhibit an alarming degree of autonomy from Parliamentary control.

The Charters:

The result of a cleverly conceived merger between specialty transport vessel manufacturer Titan Staryards and Private Military contractor Martian Military Solutions, Ares cut its teeth not just supplying material to the skirmishes between Mississippi Shipping and United Starhaul, but in supplying military contractors to both sides.

The professionalism of Ares mercenaries and quality of Ares gear led to the rapid expansion of business opportunities for the company and investment skyrocketed even after the Mississippi-Starhaul war ended in a hostile takeover of Starhaul by Mississippi.

Thanks in part to Mississippi debts held by Ares, when the RT-2102 Gate was opened up for settlement strategic maneuvering saw the Compact grant Ares mining and settlement rights to the newly opened system.

The rest, as they say, is history. Leveraging the immense resources of the Alexander system with their existing military expertise, Ares expanded nearly exponentially over the following century. While they maintain a dominating edge in the military field, they now integrated companies in fields from agronomy to personal fitness centers to xenobiology.

Internally Ares very self consciously styles itself as a hierarchical military organization complete with a semi-formal rank structure and an ethos of respect for the chain of command, professional courtesy, and treating your subordinates with respect. In practice Ares is hidebound, authoritarian, filled with passive aggressive sniping and rampant empire building.

While Ares remains headquartered on Mars, they have holdings in several systems and own the distant system of Alexander outright.

Rhodes Mining

One of the three original Charters that the Compact granted, Rhodes considers itself the singular reason that Humanity survived ecological collapse and spread past Sol. Immensely wealthy, over 52% of all material mined and processed by the entire Human race has passed through Rhodes hands at one point or another.

While founded merely to provide Earth the vital materials that it needed to rebuild itself after the lost decades of ecological collapse, Rhodes quickly expanded into all areas of the economy to support their mining, refining, and processing operations.

Dedicated to their vision of logistical chain efficiencies they've developed an entire chain of star systems into an efficient production center based around the resource rich system of Foundry, and the nearby feeder systems of Ecrams, Qem, and Crucible.

Rhodes considers itself home to a version of meritocracy built on hard work, education, and good old fashioned personal drive. This has developed over time into a stratified internal divide between the rank and file workers, the lower level management, and the highly lauded senior management. Each class lives in entirely separate worlds, attending separate schools, consuming different products, and leading very different lives in what many observers have labelled a de facto caste system.

they make food and medicine, the 120 year old CEO is kinda creepy tho?

Techbros, some of them science, some of them explore

Born from the union of Hermes Interstellar Services and The Ishtar Group, the Hermes-Ishtar Corporation owns and operates not only the communications backbone of Compact space, but much of the content that crosses over it.

The results of increasing consolidation of pre-spaceflight communications infrastructure and content creation and management firms, Hermes Communications and Ishtar Entertainment Group were both part of the second round of Charters established after the advent of the KC gates.

While Hermes quickly established operations throughout Compact space, their waystations, couriers, and communications repeaters a common sight in every corner of Human occupied space; Ishtar Group mainly limited their own operations to Sol and the Radiant system, where Ishtar owned and operated the world of Elysium to support their many projects.

Following a wave of Compact space wide reorganizations following the Mississippi-Starhaul conflicts of the 2130s, a desire for complete vertical integration on Ishtar's part led to a mostly amicable union with Hermes in 2139.

Since then Hermes-Ishtar have dominated all communications across Human space with only the privileged internal high-level communications of the other Charters managing to avoid consolidation under Hermes-Ishtar.

While Hermes-Ishtar make a great show of respecting individual creativity, initiative, and drive from their employees; in practice this amounts to rampant internal fighting involving the parasocial personality cults of different "genius" inventors, artists, and executive that rise and fall inside of Hermes-Ishtar at a dizzying rate.

Sketchy buggers, they can get you anything tho

Historical Topics:

Between 2036 and 2071 the Democratic Federation was the governing body of much of Earth's Western Hemisphere.

Initially comprised of a Federation of Socialist, Anarchist, Communist, and other far left social movements, militias, and political factions controlling regions of Earth's North American continent during and after the decline and collapse of the United States of America (1776-2034) due to the effects of unaddressed climate change amplifying existing political and economic crisis.

Eventually solidifying into the governing body of the former United States of America, United States of Mexico and the Dominion of Canada, the Democratic Federation embarked on an ambitious program of cultural revolution and economic reform designed to mitigate and reverse the effects of the climate change crisis.

As the patron of much of the central and southern western hemisphere, the Democratic Federation attempted to chart a course of environmental restoration separate from that of the Solarian Treaty Organization (In 2063 reorganized into the Solarian Charter), choosing not to contest Eurasian and African domination of outer space.

Having never existed out of crisis conditions, a combination of pre-existing economic damage, sabotage, and instability drove the Democratic Federation into decline in the Grey Decade of 2062 to 2070 and eventually forced the Democratic Federation to ratify a series of treaties giving the Charters economic access to Federation member states in order to conduct vital reconstruction work.

A last ditch uprising by radical elements in 2072 to eject the Charters from the Democratic Federation failed when Solarian Compact peacekeepers were called in and in seven months of street fighting pacified most of North America's key urban centers via strategic use of orbital weapons on the areas of greatest urban resistance.

Though guerilla warfare would continue in the Western Hemisphere for another three decades, the Democratic Federation was officially defunct by December 2072 and parcelled out into a number of Charter owned reconstruction areas under Compact authority.

Today radicals still pine for the four decades that the Democratic Federation attempted to build an alternative to the emerging Charters, and the polity's distinctive black, red, and green flag is brought out for each and every Great Black Summer. Well into the twenty second century, riots were often accompanied by demands to 'Avenge the Martyrs of 72!'.

Despite this underground extremist nostalgia, Charter and Compact schools teach that the Democratic Federation was a collectivist state whose iconoclastic behavior saw the destruction of famous landmarks like Mount Rushmore, Stone Mountain, and other monuments to Liberal Democracy and the Free Market in a mad attempt to remake the human race, but whose doctrinaire adoption of command economics saw them unable to deal with the ever-changing complexities of climate change.

Misc Details:

The first five systems to hold permanent Human colonies are known as either "The First Sisters" or "Earth's Daughters", depending on who you are asking and their political persuasion. From oldest to youngest, these worlds are:

Columbia: settled by billionaire American expats and tens of millions of refugees who had fled the unfolding revolutionary violence of the North American continent several years beforehand. Columbia was founded under a vision of fidelity to the American dream and to prove the indomitability of the soul of the United States of America and liberalism in the face of the red flags of the (North American) Democratic Federation. Fiercely loyal to the Compact and the dream of Charter prosperity, and home of the Solarian Central Bank, Columbia is often known as the "Gilded World" in reference to what many see as a return to American Gilded Age wealth and social inequality. Ares Conflict Solutions' central command is located here.

Atlantis: With colonization rights to this majority oceanic planet initially granted to the waning power of the European Union, the nations of the EU opened up colonization opportunities to other allied powers, especially Russia and Egypt. Atlantis was often seen by the EU as a place to dump unwanted refugees from outside of Europe's borders, and Russia and Egypt's tendency to see the world as a genuine project led to the usurpation of colonization rights away from Europe in the mid 2080s. Known today as the most restive of the first wave of colonies, Atlantis is the most skeptical of Charter power and plays a delicate game of wealth redistribution to underwrite the greatest social security net in Human Space. Cernunnos is de jure headquartered here.

Penglai: Originally the world in the most need of terraforming of the original colonies, Colonization rights were granted to the People's Republic of China and their allies after a lackluster bidding campaign. As China's focus was mainly on attempting to stem the damage of climate change on Earth herself, colonization of Penglai initially lagged until the Chinese Politburo struck upon the strategy of subcontracting colonization rights to Pacific adjacent nations suffering from the rise of that ocean. As colonization unfolded in the early 22nd century Penglai became known as a multicultural mosaic as hundreds of millions from across the Pacific settled and intermingled on the wine darkened shores of that world. Known today for its vibrant cultural milieu, violent clashes between labour unions, and private police, Penglai hosts the headquarters of the Hermes-Ishtar, Omoikane and Rhodes corporations.

Olduvai: With Colonization rights granted to a coalition of African nations at the height of the 'African Century', the African Colonization Organization did not see their colony as a refugee destination, dumping ground, or resource colony like their fellows. Instead the ACO saw the colonization scheme as an opportunity to preserve and export the rich traditions and cultures of Africa on their own terms, fully intending to set up healthy and self-sufficient colonies. To the current day, Olduvai has the closest relations with the home nations and is the heartland of Daughter sentiment and a bedrock for the Party for Human Rights and Liberties.

Epsilon System: While not technically a single world, the cluster of heavily inhabited space colonies in the Epsilon system are always considered the 'Fifth Sister' or 'Fifth Daughter'. As the most mineral rich system of the original colonies, Epsilon was the source of many of the materials that helped pull Earth through her darkest hour, and the system was recognized for their efforts by being invited to send delegates to the 2099 Solarian Compact Constitutional Convention. Epsilon is famous for its people's long roots in spacing and for being the headquarters of Mississippi Shipping Interstellar and thus the most heavily trafficked system in history.
Technologies
Nanomanufacturing, summary:

The contemporary gold standard for manufacturing. These devices use mechanosynthesis, a process that guides chemical reactions by placing reactive molecules with atomic precision. Ribosomes in the body's cells use a form of this method.

While the largest units can create objects up to 2m x 2m x 2m, smaller units (halving the units each time) are viable on basically any human scale. Projects larger than this size (such as ships or buildings, need to be either grown layer-by-layer via nanofabricators attached to robotic arms, or assembled from smaller parts through traditional assembly line, dry dock, or construction processes.

In principle basically anything can be made with these devices, and some materials can only be manufactured via these methods in microgravity. All manufacturing patterns in Compact Space feature Charter DRM using embedded explosive molecules like octaazacubane or cubic gauche nitrogen that will damage a disassembler or x-ray machine making reverse engineering of their products difficult.

A common part of 23rd century life is the near ubiquity of Artificial Intelligences in daily life, from consumer grade VIs through specialist TLIs, controversial AGIs, finally the perpetually 10 years away Artificial Super Intelligences.

The common consumer will daily run into what are properly known as Narrow AIs, and generally labelled as VI -Virtual Intelligences- by people outside the field. This category covers a broad swathe of techniques, from search and pathfinding to expert systems to genetic fuzzy trees to deep neural networks, which are mixed and matched with each other to optimize for the designed task. VIs are ubiquitous, exceeding human peak skill in their areas of specialization (though real world applications often don't do all that much better than trained humans), and have spent the past two centuries getting augmented with more and more clever algorithmic tricks for improving VIs. In order to do this, the Charters employ large teams of analysts and software engineers to develop clever algorithmic tricks that supplement or outright supplant neural networks, exploiting machine precision where stochastic methods are inadequate.

The use of VIs in everyday life is well accepted by the vast majority of the population, with professionals mixing and matching various consumer VIs to analyse data or assist them with creative or scientific works. Some VI lines are well loved by both the populace and the Charters themselves, with Charter programmers often deliberately leaving VIs with behavioral quirks and unpredictable glitches that not only save money on quality assurance, but are considered endearing traits that lead to anthropomorphization by the consumer market

Despite the mass comfortability and profitability of VIs of all kinds, the introduction of AGIs has been, to put it delicately, controversial. Though computer science has advanced to the point of producing programs that can not only pass the Turing test, but demonstrate sapience and match 23rd century human intelligence, flexibility, and creativity, the public reaction to the introduction of AGI saw the companies of the time rapidly pull them from the market, and even say the Compact itself move to heavily regulate the AI sector.

First introduced in the 2060s, the great tech firms began replacing their work staff with AGIs who did not require food, rest, housing, or pay. This shift led to an alliance between white collar workers fearing that automation would put them out of work and radicals who opposed what they insisted was AGI Slavery, a growing movement that would climax in the First Great Black Summer of 2084. When the ashes of the First Black Summer settled, the Compact's Parliament moved to grant rights to AGIs, and the resulting economic damage saw dozens of formerly great names in computing consolidate under the aegis of several of the first Charters who flaunted their extra-Solarian wealth by buying up prestigious brand names and research divisions on the cheap.

Since the 2080s, while the regulation surrounding AGI production and use have been severely weakened none of the Charters have sought to reintroduce them into the market, perhaps fearing another backlash like the First Black Summer and the few hundred thousand surviving AGIs that were granted Solarian Citizenship rights have found spread throughout the Compact and Charter Space where they usually work at the same white collar jobs whose workers they were designed to replace.

Perhaps due to the risks of attempting to reintroduce AGIs to the market, Omoikane has instead introduced their flagship product the "TLI" or Temporary Limited Intelligence. Approximately as effective as an AGI, a TLI is billed as a more moral replacement for AGI that uses a suite of high end VIs and a proprietary batch of creativity algorithms in order to complete complex tasks.

TLIs are used as a fire and forget program designed to be licensed to solve a single issue, no matter how complicated and then delete itself. Though the TLIs are a black box product, scientists from the other Charters believe that the central creativity algorithm in the TLI is inherently unstable and rapidly degrades in ability with time, making the TLI an instance of Omoikane attempting to market a critical technical flaw as a selling point that is accepted due to the ubiquitous market practice of planned obsolescence and artificial scarcity.

Though expensive, most businesses and successful professionals will keep a few licensed Omoikane TLIs on hand to throw at difficult problems or to supplement manpower in crunch situations.

While AGIs have been possible for nearly two centuries, the promise of a Seed AI, a recursively self-improving general superintelligence, is perpetually 'a decade away from the market', and no successful ASI ever been demonstrated to the satisfaction of the Charters or the Compact.

This is not to say that the Gödel machine architecture or the AIXI model has somehow been forgotten in the past 230 years, but that the Friendly AI problem has yet to be cracked. Every demonstration has either stalled out or gone immediately rampant, attempting to overthrow Charter Space before being stopped by the safety net of Narrow AIs. The small trickle of roughly human intelligence level AGIs that are created every decade typically come from these projects.

Urban legends persist that a few Seed AIs managed to escape and hide out beyond known space, plotting to return and crush humanity, or that they control all of society in secret, puppeting the Compact and Charters from their very foundation and occasionally engineering publicly failed ASI attempts to allay suspicion. These rumours are, of course, patently false, and simply the fevered imagination of crackpots at work, no doubt inspired by entertainment made by Hermes-Ishtar that feature AI supervillainy.

The Spinward Frontier:

The Middle Spinward Frontier

The Core Region:

UNDER RADIANT CONTROL OR ALLIED:

The Radiant system is host to a G-class star, only slightly smaller than Sol. The system itself is rather small and resource-poor; experts believe that one or more Jovian planets ejected much of the system's bodies and then followed themselves. This is evidenced by the system's asteroid belt degrading over time, with high levels of eccentric orbits and impacts on planetary surface.

Radiant 1: A rather unremarkable airless iron planet, gravity 0.4 Earth Standard.

Radiant 2: A slightly larger unremarkable airless iron-silicate planet, gravity 0.6 Earth Standard.

Radiant 3: A binary planetary system and the outermost of the Radiant systems' planets.

Asphodel (Radiant 3a): The larger of the Elysium 3 pair, Asphodel might have once hosted life of its own. That life has been snuffed out for hundreds of millions of years, though, as the planet's significant atmosphere began the runaway cycle of your usual hothouse planet. Hermes-Ishtar maintained a significant aerostat and automated surface miner operation for in-house manufacturing, given that the frequent asteroid impacts from the asteroid belt keep digging up chunks of the upper crust and having low-melting-point metals rain out of the sky and solidify, unoxidized, on the surface for collection. Gravity 1.4 Earth Standard.

Elysium (Radiant 3b): Elysium was settled in the late 2190's, being a relatively simple affair. Simple life had already begun to evolve under its oceans, but continued orbital bombardment far past the lengths of things like Earth's Late Heavy Period had kept it there. It was a simple matter of forming up a small anti-asteroid task force armed with tugs and mining lasers to artificially end the pummeling, and the surface proved amenable to Terran life transplants. The colony is energy-self-sufficient, using a variety of solar, tidal, and nuclear power. Gravity 0.9 Earth Standard.

Radiant I: The outermost significant feature of Radiant, this asteroid belt is more a loose mixture of a primordial asteroid belt much like Sol's with a Kuiper belt. The shepherding gas giants which once nudged all these rocks into their orbits are gone, and with it the entire outer system is a maelstrom of chaotic orbits as the belts lose their coherence. This requires constant vigilance from Elysium's anti-asteroid team, but the high eccentricity of many asteroids also makes it cheap and easy to mine the ones that might come Elysium's way, which provides a trickle of basic resources for upkeep and personal goods. All large-scale building and infrastructure projects have been supplied from out-system, however.

A G-K far binary system, Gaid is simply a transit point to Radiant. Gaid's own gate maintenance techs and SAR rotated in and out through Radiant itself. There is no infrastructure other than a set of buoy lines for communications in Gaid A, and nothing in Gaid B.

Gaid A1: An airless world. Quality 10.

Gaid A2: A planet much like mars with a vestigial CO2 atmosphere. Quality 7.

Gaid B7: An interesting gas dwarf sometimes referred to as an 'ice dwarf.' Quality 14.

A close K-M binary, Shei is home to an old Ares penal colony.

Shei 1: A Cthonian world. Quality 15.

Shei 2: An airless world. Quality 12.

Sheol (Shei 3): A boreal world, with a large, decaying ring, the planet features two large continents. The population of the consists of a large prisoner population on the larger of the two continents and a small Ares training base on the smaller. Records show that the prison consists of several million persons convicted to "high risk labour" and dropped on the continent with automatic resupply via Ares contractors and watched from orbit by weapons satellites. Most of the planet's land area is covered in a native tree analogue with a strange multi-stranded trunk.

Sheol is actually home to a population of over 100 million made up of prisoners and their descendants taht Ares was usuing as a live fire training course. Cooperation between Radiant agents, Ares mutineers, and the Sheolites themselves have seen the planet freed.

Gravity .95 Earth Standard. Quality 12.

Five Lions 2: A small rocky ball. Quality 3.

Five Lions 3: A rocky ball. Quality 7.

Grasberg (Five Lions 4): A large rocky world, glaciation has rendered it uninhabitable for now, but terraforming efforts have begun to artificially ramp up the greenhouse effect and restore liquid water to the surface, along with mining its ice. Gravity 1.11 Earth Standard. Quality 14.

Five Lions 5: This planet's atmosphere is so significant it verges on a gas dwarf. While a solid surface covered in a thin layer of ice is at the bottom, no reasonable colonization is possible. Quality 7.

Five Lions I: This asteroid belt, along with all the others, is being mined heavily.

Five Lions 6: This Jovian planet forms the center of current Rhodes extraction efforts. Quality 4.

Five Lions 6a: This Martian planet boasts significant ice caps and active plate tectonics, though only a vestigial atmosphere. Debate on whether to put resources into terraforming it are ongoing. Gravity .81 Earth Standard. Quality 17.

Oyu Tolgoi (Five Lions 6b): Home to the local population in covered shelters, this Martian planet, while nearly completely lacking water or plate tectonics, has its own atmosphere. Comet bombardment away from populated areas is ongoing and is already beginning to show results. Gravity .79 Earth Standard. Quality 11.

Five Lions II: An asteroid belt.

Five Lions 7: An unremarkable Jovian. Quality 2.

Five Lions III: An asteroid belt.

Five Lions 8: Jovian planet, its rotation speed has resulted in an unusually calm upper atmosphere. Quality 15.

Five Lions IV: An asteroid belt.

Five Lions 9: Jovian planet. Quality 9.

Five Lions V: An asteroid belt.

Five Lions 10: Neptunian ice giant. Quality 8.

A rare system with a brown dwarf orbiting a G-type star (just barely in the limits of what's considered a single system rather than a binary), and with a Jovian planet orbiting that, and on top of that treasure trove a dual ice giant binary, Osliam presents a golden research opportunity, and was bid on by Omoikane despite its otherwise sparce resources and poor habitable prospects.

Osliam 1: A rare hot ice giant, this planet is actively shrinking on a measurable time scale. It must have migrated in as a much larger planet recently.

Osliam 1a: This once-rock-ice moon is now a tiny molten ellipse barely holding together.

Osliam 1b: This somewhat larger moon changes color unusually with its day, as the shade of its parent cools lava to a dull red before emerging back into the light heats the lava back to a healthy orange glow.

Osliam 1c: This entire moon glows dull red in its day, just barely solid, and cools to an unusually smooth moon in its night.

Osliam I: This asteroid belt was probably a planet before Osliam 1's passing tore it to shreds.

Osliam 3: A hothouse planet with a relatively thin atmosphere, it retains temperatures and pressures that are survivable with heavy-duty equipment on the surface—when it's not raining sulfuric acid, that is.

Osliam 4: This small Martian planet seems to have collected some of Osliam 1's offgassing in its move inwards, and has a renewed temporary atmosphere.

Osliam 5a: This planet seems to have survived at the edge of the frost line by siphoning gas off its smaller twin.

Osliam 5b: Barely a gas giant, this planet was probably only slightly smaller than Osliam 5a in the distant past.

Osliam 6: The focus of Omoikane colonization in-system, Osliam 6 retains plate tectonics from the nearby brown dwarf but no atmosphere, an odd combination.

Osliam 7: A brown dwarf, this substellar object long ago burnt its deuterium and now lies slowly cooling, glowing dimly red. It is, however, still giving off a prodigious amount of low IR radiation.

Osliam 7a: Once its own planet, Osliam 7a was captured at some point by Osliam 7, perhaps in the same interaction that threw Osliam 1 to its suicidal innermost orbit.

Osliam 7a1: This icy moon is simultaneously shrinking and becoming more habitable—while its outer layers of ice are sublimating, the fierce tides of its complex interplay with Osliam 7 and 7a are heating the inner ocean to temperatures comparable to terrestrial water sources. Some scientists even suggest a pocket of water vapor is forming under the ice, and may form an internal "sky" for as much as a hundred million years before the outer shell sublimates entirely.

Osliam 7a2: This moon is less lucky; its tides are so strong that they seem to slowly be ripping the moon apart. It won't have the honor of becoming more than an ephemeral ring; the same complex tides tearing at it will rapidly disperse its debris field. While it lasts, though, it's easy water harvesting.

UNDER CHARTER CONTROL:

A distant double G binary, Xotreh hosts a small habitable moon around Xotreh B, the smaller of the two stars. As such, development has focused on the second star, despite the fact that the jump points center closer to Xotreh A.

Xotreh A1: This world boasts an active liquid silicate cycle on its surface, with oceans of basalt and continents of granite. Gravity 0.38 Earth Standard. Quality 8.

Xotreh A2: A rather large airless world, its original atmosphere was likely blown off by a massive impact. Gravity 1.2 Earth Standard. Quality 9.

Xotreh A3: A binary planetary pair of airless worlds about the size of Mars. Quality 6 and 8.

Xotreh A4: A hothouse planet with a planet-wide sulfuric acid storm due to its rapid rotation. Gravity .71 Earth Standard. Quality 8.

Xotreh A5 "Cueball": This planet is remarkably similar to Earth—if earth was buried under a kilometers-thick ice sheet across 90% of the surface. One day, as Xotreh A expands and dies, this world will become an ocean planet, but for now it's a cold desert. Gravity .87 Earth Standard. Quality 5.

Xotreh A6: An unremarkable icy ball. Quality 4.

Xotreh AI: An asteroid belt.

Xotreh A7: A Jovian planet, Xotreh 7 corrals the entire inner system in line. Quality 10.

Xotreh B1: This planet must have once been a gas giant at least the size of Uranus before it was sent inwards. Now all that remains is a dense core with a molten surface. Gravity 1.51 Earth Standard. Quality 13.

Xotreh B2: A binary pair of earth-sized airless worlds. Quality 6 and 7.

Xotreh B3: Another once-gas giant, this planet remains far out enough to boast a wholly-solid surface of iron. Gravity 1.64 Earth Standard. Quality 14.

Xotreh B4: A Jovian right on the frost line, its tidal heating keeps its moons on the edge of habitability. Quality 3.

Xotreh B4a "Sushi": An ocean world with massive polar ice caps, Omoikane has constructed a series of seasteads on the equatorial high ocean plateaus where it was feasible to drive foundations into the sea floor a few hundred meters below the surface. These small facilities serve as housing, data storage, and production centers for the research teams studying the dual Cthonian planets of Xotreh B. Gravity .67 Earth Standard. Quality 2.

Xotreh B4b: The lesser tidal heating here worsened the glaciation, and the planet lies under a planet-wide crust of ice. Gravity 1.13 Earth Standard. Quality 10.

Xotreh BI: The close proximity of this asteroid belt makes it an ideal location for resource extraction.

Xotreh 5: This Jovian is definitively beyond the habitable zone. Quality 6.

Xotreh 6: A dense ice giant. Quality 4.

Xotreh 7: Jovian planet. Quality 6.

Xotreh 8: An exceptionally cold Jovian. Quality 9.

Xotreh 8a: An unremarkable icy sphere. Quality 8.

Xotreh 9: This planet would have a massive atmosphere, if it wasn't so cold it all froze and fell to the surface. Only a few degrees above the space surrounding it. Gravity 1.3 Earth Standard. Quality 9.

Population: 54,000

Besides an interesting Jovian-gas dwarf planetary system, Bestreer holds little of interest other than its connections to other places.

Bestreer 1: An airless world. Quality 2.

Bestreer 2: An airless world. Quality 6.

Bestreer 3: This airless world once had a captured moon, torn apart at the Roche limit and forming a ring. A small gate maintenance and SAR team bases here, siphoning fuel and water from Bestreer 5 and mining into the surface for both resources and safe spaces for housing. Quality 10.

Bestreer 4: A rock-ice world. Quality 5.

Bestreer 5: Another rock-ice world made up more of ice than rock. Quality 5.

Bestreer I: An icy asteroid belt.

Bestreer 6: A large Jovian planet, on the edge of becoming a brown dwarf. Quality 15.

Bestreer 6a: This gas dwarf might have become a gas giant in its own right without its massive sibling. Quality 5.

Bestreer 7: Another Jovian. Quality 14.

Bestreer 7a: An icy moon, with an internal ocean buried under kilometers of ice. Quality 12.

Bestreer 8: An icy ball. Quality 10.

Population: 450

G-class star. A transshipping point to Radiant and environs, Mississippi keeps a substantial support crew on hand for possible cargo ship breakdowns or emergencies in-system, due to the slightly increased risk of issues from the absolute shambles of Akleod's inner system. A minor executive has also put together a cheap refueling and battery exchange station.

Akleod 1: Even actively evaporating and leaving behind a trail in orbit of dissipating volatiles, this body is large enough to have usurped Akleod 1a's orbit temporarily until it disappears away or the chaotic orbit of the two throws one into the star or out of the system. Quality 2.

Akleod 1a: The original Akleod 1, its orbit has been badly disrupted by the current, migrating Akleod 1. Which of the two gets ejected is still uncertain despite a decent amount of computational simulation; odds put it at 48-52% relatively. Quality 6.

Gnat's Ass (Akleod 2): A small, loosely-held-together icy body, perhaps what used to be an asteroid belt before Akleod 1's suicidal inner-system dive. It's not yet had time to fully reach hydrostatic equilibrium. Quality 3.

Akleod 3: An icy planet similar to Akleod 1, perhaps an old sibling. Quality 13.

Akleod I: An asteroid belt.

Akleod 4: A Jovian with an unusually elliptical orbit, it's regarded as the culprit for the chaos of Akleod's inner system. Quality 11.

Population: 5,000

As it turns out, transponder codes from regular priority messages through Gaid (now that we can see them, having backdoored the gate control) bear tags from a system, Thoa, along with navigational chart updates for any ships that happen to stop by. Thoa and Gaid both seem to have been nothing more than transit points to the far-more-valuable Radiant for Hermes-Ishtar, but Thoa holds a small anti-pirate base guarding against raiders from Signia. Hermes-Ishtar was apparently serious enough about it to have a converted corvette on station.

All told, the Thoa system holds gates to 2 systems besides Gaid's. There's also an unimproved jump point simply labelled as "dangerous." that leads to Signia

Thoa System Stats:

Thoa 1: A molten mess of a planet, it's hot enough that a residual atmosphere of vaporized low-melting-point metallics exists.

Thoa 2: An unremarkable airless metal ball.

Thoa 3: A super-earth hothouse, this planet would have been uninhabitable due to its gravity even before turning scorchingly hot.

Thoa 3a: A captured asteroid barely on the edge of hydrostatic equilibrium, the Nasty Bastardhad been excavating rudimentary shelters for "leave" for its crew.

Thoa I: An asteroid belt.

Thoa 4: A normal Jovian planet.

Thoa 4a: A moon much like Mars in climate.

Thoa 5: A Jovian planet with an unusual triangular wind pattern at the poles.

Thoa 6: Blooms of hydrogen well up from the core of this Jovian, perhaps disturbed by some recent impact.

Thoa 7: Bathyscapes would find themselves at home on the surface of Thoa 7. Pressures much like that at Earth's seabed keep a crust of ice 3 stable enough robotic drones could walk on it.

Thoa 7a: Unusually, Thoa 7a is the only large icy body in the system. Scientists are unsure of where the others went. As the only easy source of volatiles, the UNasty Bastard periodically stopped by a handful of obsolete volatile collection systems on the surface to top up.

Thoa II: A Kuiper belt of icy objects.

Empty Systems

Kimberly: A fairly unremarkable and empty system, this site was chosen as Rhodes' spinward boneyard—a place for failed experiments, old equipment, and ships so worn they weren't worth maintaining anymore, but were still valuable enough to warrant not throwing into a gas giant or otherwise completely destroyed. For 2 decades a Rhodes-affiliated salvaging contractor worked here, gathering scrap and other valuables, but following high injury and death rates and low returns, the contract (and most non-local dumping) was cancelled in 2247 (4 years before the March Days.)

Kimberly 1: A large rocky planet, this must have migrated inwards from further out in the system a long time ago to be so large so close to its parent star.

Kimberly 2: A Martian planet that keeps a comfortable daytime temperature despite its lack of atmosphere due to a close orbit.

Kimberly 3: A Jovian world.

Kimberly I: This asteroid belt is actually combined with a thinly-spread junkyard corralled by Kimberly's 2 gas giants.

Kimberly 4: A Neptunian world, this planet has several starship hulks abandoned as the closest stable orbit to the gate out. An old deactivation hub orbits in resonance with Kimberly 4a, the former site of a salvaging operation.

Kimberly 4a: The only significant satellite in the system, this icy moon retains a thin crust and a massive subterranean freshwater ocean.

Head of Diplomatic Corps:

Name: Amanda Redcrest, Victoria Blackwell, and Kayla Hayashi

DoB: "2222", 2219, 2227, 2224

Current Position: Influential media figure and figurehead of Social Committee propaganda

Not a traditional diplomat, or a traditional individual 'Veronica Stardust' is the persona of a trio of XP broadcasters who have been working together since 2246 and has consistently been one of the most recognized figures across Charter space and is a local Elysian celebrity.

In Charter space those individuals who choose to make money by recording their lived experiences, of all kinds, for later playback are treated with an indulgent disdain by the polite classes as a mix of internet celebrity and sex worker despite the practice of selling XP experiences being common in the poorer segments of society and a smaller portion of the professional middle class attempting to stay afloat in a tight gig economy.

Amanda Redcrest was a former media programmer whose attempts to supplement her income with XP work backfired and saw her fired from her job. Contrarily, Kayla and Victoria both come from lower class backgrounds, though Kayla's attempts to climb into the middle class by earning a marketing degree were frustrated when her lower class status markers and financing of education via XP work saw her frozen out of the job market.

A former collaborator of Kayla's, Victoria had been a rising XP star in her own right and had no desire to change her station, but as her brief celebrity began to fade Victoria approached Kayla to propose the creation of a dedicated broadcasting persona that both would act as. Later bringing on Redcrest, who they'd both done crossover XP work with, to do technical work, the trio used carefully gathered market data and some intuition to create the "Veronica Stardust" persona of an middlingly-intelligent and freewheeling persona who played to the upper class's picture of what depravities and indignities the poorer class must get up to in their spare time.

From 2246 to 2251 the Veronica Stardust persona (performed by all three at various times, though primarily Victoria) produced experience recordings that were nearly always in the top 10 best sellers across Charter space.

Though they enjoyed the wealth that they brought in, the trio increasingly chafed at the market driven limitations of Veronica, and were considering a number of possibly catastrophic brand shifts when the March Days broke out and all three participated in street actions in a private capacity after sending one last broadcast as 'Veronica' to encourage revolt.

Since the formation of the Social Committee the figure of Veronica has been rebranded to serve as the figurehead of Social Committee Propaganda and several major initiatives have been launched with her at the forefront including a highly successful part of the anti-overproduction initiatives.

As part of the now-completed campaign to maintain the charade that Radiant was still under Charter control, Veronica Stardust continued to sell broadcasts to HI media chains, though the trio could not help but begin a brand shift towards a far more intelligent and radical persona.

Pros: XP Celebrity, influential, well known, inspiring to the middle and lower classes

Cons: XP celebrity, little diplomatic experience, three people

Diplomatic Goals: Defeat the Charters in the field of public opinion, push social revolution and freedom of information and communication, cause public opinion to oppose attacking Radiant

Defence Coordinator:

Name: Maria Awhina

DoB: 2165

Current Position: Military Committee Delegate from the Radiant Veterans Guild

Born into poverty on Earth as the twenty-second century began to wane, young 22-year old Maria Awhina caught up in radical anti-Charter politics during the third black summer of 2187 and was convicted of property destruction during the rioting and sentenced to serve as a contractor to Hermes-Ishtar until her contract was paid off.

The stark choice of starvation or service to Hermes-Ishtar caused Maria to descend into self-destructive behavior where for twenty years Ms. Awhina continuously volunteered for the highest paid and most dangerous positions that Hermes-Ishtar had available.

Hermes-Ishtar considers Special Operations Lieutenant Awhina to have served with distinction throughout the heavy skirmishing of that era, though Maria herself continues to carry guilt for her service and her survival.

After performing exceptionally well in a hostage rescue operation Awhina was transferred to the Protective Detail Division of Hermes-Ishtar Security, and was eventually assigned to serve as the head of the Radiant Vice President's protective detail.

Over the next four decades she came to see the world as her home, and while her professionalism never wavered, her loyalty to the company who still owned her contract did.

This March, Maria had the option to gun down her fellow planetary headquarters workers to secure Yang's escape, or to finally return to roots in anti-Charter agitation. The fact that we are all here today shows what choice she made.

alternate battle names for the WW2-class:

the Kutná Hora, after the Hussite Wars battle which yeeted the emperor from Bohemia and forced him into a truce against a commune of proto-Protestant freaks and a bunch of Czech peasants.

the Peji Sla Wakapa, aka the Battle of the Greasy Grass, aka "Custer's Last Stand", in which America took such a massive L from the Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho Nations, that we had to pretend it was a noble martyrdom ever since.

or the Vertières, where Napoleon's bid to reconquer and re-enslave Haiti was officially defeated once and for all, a victory so painful the great powers devoted incredible amounts of energy to drive Haiti into neocolonial ruin.

Is Battle of Gaid on theme for the Second World War Class?
Could also go for Battle of Bestreer since we were originally planning to give it to Shei and that was the first battle the SUFSF participated in.

If Second World War-class cruises are traditionally named after battles, would this technically counts as a threat?

[X] [WW2] Bastion
You know, if we're going for maximum psychological impact, this one would look like a prophecy if 9th Fleet learns of it and Rousseau does the thing.
Also as Theater Kids we're kind of obligated to put in foreshadowing.

Still need to figure out what I want for the smaller ones.

NAME: Katherine DeVries
BIO: Katherine is an experienced spacer who happened to be in Radiant for the March Days. Originally hailing from Columbia, she found employment on the H-I system of Isekai in a medium-term work contract in order to obtain 'space elf' augments based on the H-I multimedia science fiction property Closed Dyson. The augments include space work related benefits as well as aesthetic changes, allowing her to take on courier crewperson work throughout the galaxy in order to continue making payments for her augmentations. Katherine was in Radiant orbit when the March Days kicked off, and participated in actions to seize control of the orbitals. Seeing the revolution as a way to avoid the debt from her augmentations at first, she signed up for the Congressional Navy and has been diligent and professional - though some of her old 'sleazy smuggler' character from Isekai leaks through in stressful moments.
CN SERVICE HISTORY: 2IC, CNS Choreographer (since Broadcast). Lieutenant, CNS Choreographer (since commissioning). Participated in Radiant Courier Yard Conversion project.
COMMAND TRAITS: Cautious, Unpredictable, Navigator

Approved as CO, CNS Isle La Motte

Name: Simon Haak
Bio: Key Grip for a number of truly execrable film productions on Radiant, Simon was half a step away from rioting already when the March Days broke out. A long career of shoestring budgets, prima donna actors, and "we'll edit that in post" fraying his willingness to refrain from violence to a point where all it really took to make him join in was the sight of others not getting immediately shot. Following the revolution, he, like many others, took the time to kick back and relax. He and his wife moved out of their (just barely big enough to pretend they weren't poor) previous home into a newly unoccupied villa on one of Elysium's many islands, and when Bunker-Maina hit the Haak family joined in the fun as well. Because what's the point of an island villa if it isn't sitting on top of a bond villain lair?

It was during this time, however, that he came into contact with a member of the Military Committee, and he began to realize that victory over the charters was not a sure thing. Half the reason he'd endured his old job was for its pay, and a similar sense of fear for his family's future began to creep over him. The decision to join the congressional navy was not a choice made lightly. But in his heart, he knew that the farther he could keep the charters from Radiant, the easier he would sleep at night.

CN service history: Passed the tests with high marks, but not in time to serve at Besteer-Arizona. Likely to be selected for a relatively low-importance command.

Command traits: Organizational experience, used to making do with less, restrained temper.

Note: I have no earthly clue how long it takes to train a naval officer, if his joining the navy needs to be delayed a turn or two I will accept that.

Approved, assigned command of CNS NOT YET NAMED. (Free Companies-Class attached to Home Fleet)

Name: Jacob Moreau Jr.

Bio: At the end of the March Days, not all those liberated from the prisons were union leaders or political agitators. In a city as large as Elysium's capital, even the most corrupt of police forces would occasionally manage to catch someone who was indeed a danger to themselves and others. Convicted on multiple counts of armed robbery, Jacob was noted to be "uncooperative" and "belligerent" by the PCPD, and his time behind bars only made him more antisocial and ill tempered. At first, he trusted the new government about as far as he could throw it, and for a time he simply stewed in misery, waiting for the other shoe to drop. Then one hot and thirsty day, he went to a bar, and furtively asked how much for something cheap.

Two hours later, he was being helped back to his apartment by a considerably less drunk patron. He would spend much of that evening rambling to an empty room about how unfair life was, before staggering to his bathroom and then passing out on the floor.

He woke the next morning, bleary, hung over, and not entirely convinced he hadn't run up a ruinous bar tab that would result in somebody being sent to introduce a lead pipe to his kneecaps. Yet as time passed, it became clear that the world he now lived on was deeply and fundamentally different from the dog-eat-dog environment he had grown up in, and the adjustment period would be long and painful. Still not fully trusting the powers that be, he slowly began engaging his newfound drinking buddies in conversation, attempting to get his bearings in this strange new society. With alcohol loosening his tongue, he would open up to them about how bizarre it was to not have everything revolve around where your next rent payment or bar tab was coming from, how he couldn't understand why the new government would simply trust him not to rape and murder as he pleased. His inebriated companions would respond with equal quantities of wisdom, condolences, and slurring nonsense, and after a year in this brave new world he might, begrudgingly, call some of them his friends. And somewhere along the line, somewhere he cannot precisely pinpoint, a switch was flipped in his mind, from "I had it rough, that justifies my actions" to "I had it rough, folks shouldn't need to".

It would be during the celebrations following the battle of Gaid-Thoa that the topic of military service first came up, curtisy of one of the younger barflies bombastically declaring that they would personally inflict another such defeat upon the charters. Thus was Jacob's response: "Well shit. Guess I better join too, keep you from doing something stupid and getting killed!" Surprisingly, said compatriot was still on about the military at the start of the next day when folks were still reasonably sober, and was also hell-bent on making seeing Jacob make good on his promise. Eventually, the ex-criminal would relent, and the two would sign up near simultaneously.

CN service history: Despite a list of minor disciplinary infractions, he would eventually make it to the rank of Gunnery Officer abord the Shieldmaiden and would receive a citation of merit for helping his fellow crewmen evacuate the vessel when it suffered fatal damage.

Command Traits: Headstrong, Aggressive, Post-Redemption Arc (and salty about it)
========================================================================================

Name: Tomas "T-J" Johnston

Bio: A young man right out of his corporate sponsored education, in the early phases of having his dreams torn to shreds in front of him by the claws of a thousand different systems meant to get every last scrap of corporate script he was paid back into corporate pockets. His parents, long ago caught up in their own soul-crushing grind sets, took little notice as he started coming home later and later, in increasingly disheveled states. While it was true that he was working increasing amounts of overtime, the true cause of this behavior was a growing fondness for drink as an escape, the money a child of higher status might pay on nice clothes or networking attempts going towards a local bar instead.

When the March Days came, he would swear up and down to his parents that he had no idea where the Molotov cocktails had come from.

A few weeks later, resting at his favorite watering hole (and cutting back on the alcohol content of his drinks, at his poor mother's insistence), he spied an unfamiliar face. An ugly and scarred face, who would up getting a bit too excited about the bar's new policy of all drinks being free. Helping the old man back to his home, listening to him weep the entire way about broken homes and broken systems, he felt an unfamiliar sort of sympathy with this near stranger. Starting the very next day, TJ began making a conscious effort to reach out to those around him, to try and forge a social group out of a bunch of people whose routines periodically brought them into close proximity with one another... And to the shock of the older regulars, he succeeded.

During the celebrations following the battle of Gaid-Thoa, after allowing himself to get a fair bit drunker than usual, he would bombastically declare to those assembled that someday, he would inflict another such defeat upon the charters. And amidst the incoherent cheers, a gravely yet by now familiar voice responded: "Well shit. Guess I better join too, keep you from doing something stupid and getting killed!" These words would stick out through what would otherwise have been hazy memories of that night, and the notion he would not be signing up alone formed the basis of his arguments for convincing his parents this wasn't a horrible idea. Eventually, he would get his friend from the bar on board as well, and the two would sign up near simultaneously.

Name: George F. Williams

Bio: A practicing catholic living in a time and place where money was the primary object of worship, George sought solace in his faith even as it was tested time and again. Occasionally harassed by the police for his efforts to organize charity and community, he lived a hardscrabble life, more than once reading to his fellows in alleyways or under bridges. When the March Days came, he did not directly participate, but neither did he restrain his flock from joining, praying every day for their safety, and for the lord to deliver victory unto whichever side was truly righteous.

Though it would be months before he admitted it to another living soul, he was deeply relieved to see that it was the revolutionaries which stood triumphant at the end of the conflict.

Freed from the shackles of commercialism, he resumed his spiritual duties, now with a lighter heart. Sermons of enduring hardship with the promise of eternal reward in the hereafter gave way to advice on coming together and loving thy neighbor, and the father himself seemed far more alive than he had in the years preceding. For a time, he settled into a comfortable holding pattern, but come the liberation of Sheol he would find himself confronted with a moral dilemma, brought on by contact with Sheol's... Unique take on the Christian faith. He had long considered himself a man of peace, and though he was willing to turn a blind eye towards violence for a cause he found just, what his brothers and sisters in Christ from Sheol preached was far beyond this. Yet were they wrong to do so, given the magnitude of the charter's crimes? Given their horrific perversions of the faith, performed in the name of base greed and the lust for power? No, George would decide. No, the Sheolites were not wrong to preach violence against the charters.

And so it was that he began his preparations. He encouraged his followers to read the bible on their own or in groups they organized themselves, gathered all his notes regarding his own attempts to organize and lead, and signed on for the congressional navy.

CN service history: Served in various positions with competence, if not particular distinction. Was promoted to XO of the CNS Rojava prior to the Battle of the Osliam-Shei Gate, is now being considered for promotion to captain due to proposed fleet expansions.

Command traits: Experienced organizer, true believer, very quietly despises Alexander Romance if she's canon.

Name: Andrew Dufort

Bio: 199 centimeters of augmented muscle, Andrew spent most of his life damn near the poster child for the "perfect blue collar laborer". He did this because he very quickly figured out that when the great looming hulk of a man starts acting in a less than submissive manner, it makes the people with guns start twitching. While he wouldn't rank himself the smartest, he was certainly no fool, and it was not long after he learned how to play the fool for self-preservation that he began doing so for other reasons as well. It was amazing, what sorts of things his superiors would let slip if they thought the only one's listening were the servile and the sympathetic. As for how this information was making it to the ears of an underground labor union, clearly it couldn't be by means of quiet, humble, knows-his-place Andrew, could it?

To the surprise of nobody who worked for a living, Mr. Dufort was an active and eager participant in the March Days. That said, rumors of him ripping a heavy machine gun off of an armored car and firing it from the hip were indeed exaggerated (it was a light machine gun, a Squad Automatic Weapon to be exact, and normally it would be fired with the help of a bipod).

His decision to join the Congressional Navy came as a surprise to those who knew him, and to the dismay of those who'd put money on him joining as some manner of ground combatant. The man's own logic went as such: If the compact ever gained orbital superiority, they were only going to put up with so much street-to-street fighting before they broke out the Recreational McNukes. Thus, it would be most productive to keep them from establishing such superiority. That, and being in Zero-Gee is easier on the big dude's joints.

CN service history: Served in various positions with competence, if not particular distinction. Was promoted to XO of the CNS Shippy Mcshipface prior to the Battle of the Osliam-Shei Gate, is now being considered for promotion to captain due to proposed fleet expansions. Noted by his current superiors to have a "commanding presence".

Name: Clive Richardson

Bio: Just another gig worker barely scraping by, during the chaos of the March Days he had the genius plan of hotwiring an abandoned police APC with the help of some absolute strangers and then ramming it into something. Unfortunately, the group failed to consider WHY the APC in question might be abandoned (damage to the steering column inflicted by an IED), and between this and the fact that he'd never gotten behind the controls of anything larger than a scooter before meant his joyride was distinctly short lived. As the motley crew was recovering from the crash, police attempted to retake the street they were on. While the others were huddled inside or behind the armor, regretting the choices that had brought them there, Clive was getting another visit from the good idea fairy, prompting him to clamber up to the weapon mount and start using it against the advancing "peacekeepers". Now, after action reports would indicate that the resulting spew of bullets and obscenities was responsible for 0 deaths and 3 injuries, but it did succeed in stalling the advance long enough that by the time Clive had run out of ammo and subsequently gone running for his life, the maneuver which the Charter loyalists were attempting to conduct had been ruined.

Following the official formation of the Congressional Navy, both Clive and the merry misfits who had joined him on his revolutionary misadventure would be swept up in patriotic fervor and all sign up at once. Unfortunately, Clive would be the only one out of the entire gaggle of halfwits to actually pass.

CNS service history: Almost froze up from a panic attack as a (very) junior officer during the liberation of Sheol, his performance improved dramatically to merely mediocre in the first battle of Gaid-Thoa. Feeling he wasn't up to the task being demanded of him, he requested discharge and was granted it after the December 2253 ceasefire. He would re-enlist a few months later and be transferred to the Crête-à-Pierrot shortly before it took part in the Osliam Campaign. Not particularly high on the list of potential commanders but may get tapped anyway due to the sheer number of hulls both taken from Kimberly and theoretically about to be built.

Command Traits: Cautious, Driven to improve, Trusts his superiors

Name: Roark MacDougal
Bio: A spacer's spacer, damn near more accustomed to Zero Gee than to planetary living. He was working out in the void from the minute he was old enough to do so, and planetary authorities eventually saw fit to give him a senior post abord the Scutum as part of the Radiant Space Patrol. Unfortunately for said authorities, he proved far more loyal to his crew, his captain, and to his fellow spacers than to the corporate overlords. Initially skeptical of the Military Committee, the fact that his vessel has only seen combat once suits him just fine... Or it did, until he learned that the captain he had followed into Second Gaid had been killed in action during the battle of Besteer-Arizona.

CNS service history: Served as senior officer aboard the Scutum under its first captain, lost the election to Martin Pagonis after said captain was sent to help train the Sheolites. After Martin was promoted to captain of a larger and more prestigious vessel, Roark stepped up to fill the gap. Has been running increased drills following news of Besteer-Arizona.

Name: Robert Starwind
Bio: Born to a family of augments on earth, he foolishly thought he could escape poverty by moving out to the frontier. While technically correct in this regard, the work he found as a secretary was beyond menial, the pay was scraping the bottom of the barrel, and the woman he worked for was hell bent on reminding everyone, at every possible turn, how much she deserved to be lording over all of them in her tiny little fiefdom. Now, Robert was not a man typically inclined to violence, but a man's patience is at all times finite. Choosing to open her office door for a gun toting colleague during the March Days should have been the hardest decision of his life, but he found it remarkably easy.

The first Gaid incursion came like a splash of cold water. The idea of The Compact coming in and trampling this budding utopia was one Robert had carefully avoided thinking about, but it would seem the universe would give him no choice. After agonizing over what to do for several days, he set his sights on joining the Congressional Navy, and began a self-imposed study regiment to give himself the maximum possible odds of success.

CNS service history: Served in various positions with competence, if not particular distinction. Was promoted to XO of the CNS Velasco prior to the Battle of the Osliam-Shei Gate, is now being considered for promotion to captain due to proposed fleet expansions. Name: Elizabeth Silversong
Bio: Elizabeth was born the property of H-I, as was her mother, and her mother, and all their mothers going back at least as far as the last movie made by The Istar Group prior to its merger with Hermes Interstellar Services. Dragged to Radiant to play some manner of evil sorceress in an utterly forgettable fantasy film directed by a talentless hack she was contractually obligated not to murder, the filming was delayed multiple times due to labor disputes. When someone's phone camera caught her saying "If you want them to stop complaining, maybe give them what they want?" in that immortal tone which implies an unspoken 'you idiot', she suddenly found herself blowing up on Radiant's social media. When she realized that the people talking about her were doing so without invoking comparison to others of her surname, she began leaning into it, trampling the complaints of her image counselor in the process.

By the time the March Days reached their zenith, she had well and truly embraced the madness, burning what meager percentage of the Silversong fortune she had access to arming and supplying her newfound comrades, hamming it up over propaganda broadcasts, getting shot in the chest by a sniper, and spending her recovery period high as a kite on painkillers. Hence the immortal post: "Freedom may be the greatest intoxicant I have ever encountered, but damn if whatever I'm on now isn't a close second."

Following the formation of the new government, she, like many others, was struck by the question of what to do next. She derived some temporary amusement from a libertine lifestyle, then later from aiding the Media Committee to edit and quality-check content made for the RBC, before finally signing up for the Congressional Navy in search of excitement and danger. She would find these things in ample supply, and surprise even herself with her aptitude for them.

CN service history: Performed surprisingly well in training and simulations, but the battle against Task Force 12.7 would prove her first taste of combat. In recognition of her performance, she would be transferred from a junior position aboard her previous ship to a more senior position on the newly captured Free Melbourne. Survived the battle of Besteer-Arizona with minor injuries, received a minor commendation for her performance. Is being considered for command, but concerns have been raised regarding her temperament and relative inexperience.

Name: Kialik Nowitzki (He/Him)

Born to spacer parents Theresa Nowicki and Matteo Zbinden on May 6, 2212, in an Ares installation at Checkpoint. His mother was head mechanic of their station, famed for her flawless timing and detailed work; his father was a brilliant but slightly troubled Pilot in the system, who nevertheless through the help of his wife and a few friends slowly came out of his shell.

Kialik inherited a degree of pattern analysis and fact recognition beyond normal from his parents. This quality is only normally enjoyed by fail-child genetically enhanced-levels of intelligence, the kind that only absurd amounts of money can buy. Except that those enhancements come with an important amount of treatments, behavioral modifications and biological fixes. Those treatments allow such an enhanced person to use their abilities without having them obstructing a normal life.

Since his parents could never pay for genetic sequencing, potential fixes or advanced treatments, Kialik's life was much rougher. He was trapped in a borderline pathological need to understand and model everything around him, before constructing a suitable plan of action, the child grew up slowly learning how to act more human.

As soon as his childhood classmates interacted with him, they took him as a stereotypical robot, because of his preplanned responses and reactions to everything.

Kids quickly learned that when he was surprised, the child became fixed on the spot, a frozen expression on his face. What was actually an strategizing trance whenever a new situation appeared, gave birth to a new sport around him, that amounted to creating random and strange situations to surprise the lonely troubled kid whenever it was possible.
Repeated tricks of bullying never worked, Kialik's reactions were instantaneous, perfectly adapted and well executed. But the game escalated, the more inconvenient the time the better, to laugh to his "crashed brain", and to get him in trouble with any timed activity like bathroom breaks or time-sensitive tasks. Of course those surprises never worked more than once, and Kialik eventually created perfect responses to any situation he already encountered, small improvements with every iteration.

Kialik grew up with this abnormal behaviour, however his top marks in any analysis task, an almost perfect record in intelligence testing presented him with opportunities in some programming and modeling jobs coding simulations, first physics systems for games then complicated models for engagement simulations, he was a great drone, though had issues navigating office environments, which truncated many chances of rising though the ranks.

However, soon after coming of age, his mother died in a repair accident. Ares investigators ruled it was caused by her inattention, all the charges for the damage were transferred to his father; Matteo, having lost the love of his life and one of the only persons that could understand how he saw the world, crashed a ship directly into a shipping container in his grief.
As the only surviving member of the family, he was saddled with an important amount of Solcoins as debt for all the damage. The courts taking into consideration that he wouldn't be paying for life extending treatments, it was deemed impossible for Kialik to pay the full debt. Logically judged a debtor with no desire to pay, he was sentenced to life-service in an indentured debtor position aboard an Ares ship orbiting Sheol.

When word of mutiny came, he was brought into the fold by an acquaintance, and he participated reprogramming systems that helped with Rosseu's takeover.

After emigrating to Radiant, he felt lost for a time but eventually joined the wargaming and simulation committees. Until the Osliam campaign when he concluded that he could try and train for the Congressional Navy. He has recently started growing a beard to harden his eternal babyface.

CN service history: Served in several analysis and navigation duties with extreme competence. Has shown reasonable ability and responses in temporal command posts. After taking charge when his XO was disabled during a live fire exercise and given opportunities in training exercises. His current superiors feel he could serve a useful position in a exploratory or defensive role.

Command Traits: Has plans and contingencies to a huge variety of situations. Extremely adept at taking advantage of unorthodox weapons and attack vectors, Freezes under completely unexpected situations. Reluctant to act with missing information

Bio: Barrett Bakari isn't a violent man. He just plays one on TV.

Or he did, until the Radiant Revolution came. Before the uprising against the Charters and Compact, Barrett was, of all things, a professional wrestler—and an extremely famous one. Though he was a skilled stunt performer and athlete, as many pro wrestlers are, Barrett's true claim to fame came from his personal charisma. He was a crowd magnet despite being a hated heel, lending a touch of intensity to even the dullest and worst-booked storylines.

One might assume that Barrett's fame protected him from H-I's cruelties—but while he had some privilege in his position, that didn't mean he went unscathed. Any performer working for H-I could tell horror stories of "visionary" directors who treated the talent working under them as pawns or servants, and the man placed in charge of Barrett's wrestling promotion was far worse than most. To make matters worse, like his fellow wrestlers, Barrett had long ago been made to sign away the rights to his name and image to H-I—and thereby forced to watch as they made massive profits from his matches and merchandise that he never saw a dime of.

Dissatisfied as he was, though, he could have borne it and kept going. Fame, after all, did come with its perks, and Barrett knew that in spite of his struggles he still had it better than most. The occasional argument with the boss wasn't enough to make a revolutionary.

But then he started talking to the stagehands.

In the months leading up to the March Days, Barrett took an interest in the work needed to make his matches run behind the scenes. A wrestling show needed a vast crew of backstage workers to produce the spectacle the audience knew and loved—from sound and lighting technicians to costume and makeup artists, and many more besides. This interest wasn't political in nature; he just wanted to learn more about the people who had helped him become so renowned. And, sure enough, he learned a great deal in the following weeks about special effects, and made a few friends besides. But he also learned about unsafe working conditions, long and punishing hours, and the struggle to unionize.

Barrett grew closer to the nascent technicians' union as the unrest on Elysium began to intensify. Developing political opinions was a new experience for him. In the ring he'd often take swipes at whichever of the Daughter or Sister Parties was in ascendance to draw the ire of the crowd, but outside of his wrestling persona he had always tried to stay uninvolved in such controversies. But that was becoming increasingly difficult—and soon, it would be impossible.

In late February, Barrett's close friend, a prominent labor leader who hoped to organize with stage crews across H-I's production companies, mysteriously vanished as the civil conflict came to a head. A police investigation found no evidence of foul play…but it was obvious what had happened to him.

For Barrett Bakari, this was the last straw. The time had come to choose sides, and he had chosen his.

When Elysium exploded into open revolt, Barrett shocked the public by giving a speech openly denouncing Hermes-Ishtar and calling on all listeners to join the uprising, in what some have called "the greatest face turn of all time". (Several of his most quotable lines became memes, especially after the speech was included in the Broadcast.) Popular accounts tend to exaggerate his role in the street fighting that followed for obvious reasons, but reports agree that he did take up arms and join in several militia actions during that time.

After the liberation of Elysium, he took some personal time out of the public eye for reasons he didn't share; but eventually he emerged from seclusion to enlist in the Congressional Navy. While this came as a surprise to many, he proved himself to be hardworking and dedicated to the ideals of the revolution, and rose through the ranks quickly. When the Battle of Bestreer and the crash naval buildup that followed it created a need for new captains, he was finally promoted to command his own ship.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, his past career has proven slightly troublesome to his current one. It's often difficult to get his subordinates to see him as professional and competent when his flamboyant image as a pro wrestler looms so large, especially because he's still untested in naval combat. But his powerful charisma and his obvious concern for the well-being of his subordinates have begun to earn him a measure of respect nonetheless.

Service History: No combat history, yet.

-Naval Combat Novice
-Surprisingly Adaptable
-Pure Revolutionary Élan
-Leads From The Front
-I Am A Serious Naval Officer, Please Believe Me
Pallas Iordanou never expected to take command.

Growing up on what was then called Fliveons, her life was laid out for her from cradle to grave by her masters in Rhodes. Her duty was to stay in her lane, inspecting the heavy equipment day after day and monitoring the VIs that kept inventory. And she carried it out without complaint, until the day she didn't.

Pallas insists that she did not participate when Fliveons rose up against the Charters—but the rebels who turned the tide of battle with mysteriously "misplaced" explosives and lasers might disagree.

In any case, the revolution had come, and Pallas—as she saw things—owed it much. She was free to go where she willed and do whatever job she chose. (And to do it as whatever gender suited her: under Rhodes, it might have been years before she advanced enough in her lane to acquire the proper certification to transition.) But while the chains on her body had been broken, the shackles around her mind were not so easily cast off. Radiant's propaganda campaigns against bureaucracy and "meritocracy" were admirable, and no doubt some people would benefit greatly from them.

But Pallas knew what she was good at, and she intended to stay in her lane.

It wasn't such a huge jump from supervising dangerous mining equipment to supervising dangerous military equipment. Pallas joined the Congressional Navy, acquired the proper certification for handling ordnance, and there she stayed. If her advancement through the ranks was far faster than it might have been at Rhodes, she thought little of it. The AIC was a new polity, and there was a need for skilled personnel that she could help fill. Being an executive officer suited her well—orders were handed down from above and she could ensure that they were carried out with the utmost efficiency and professionalism. Pallas aspired to little more than that.

Then Vanguard Force was dispatched to Bestreer.

Pallas was serving on the CNS Egalite, under Captain Caesaria Butler. And by all accounts—including Pallas's own—Captain Butler's conduct in the battle was exemplary. But, in the words of a classic work about humanity's aspirations to travel the stars: "It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose."

When Captain Butler was killed by a volley of SolNav missiles, Pallas was thrust into command of a dying vessel, with absolute certainty in her mind that she would soon follow her Captain into the grave. But she resolved to do her duty, even so. She had spent so much of her life in passivity; now, at least, she could go down swinging.

And swing she did. Egalite avenged its fallen Captain with the blood of the strikecraft wing that had taken her life, and in its death throes it crippled the Cosma Comella with the last of its functioning weapons. In the end, it was a last stand to be proud of.

Except that it wasn't Pallas's last stand.

She was among the last to make it off the fallen vessel, but she did make it—and when the Congressional Navy held the field, she was returned alive to friendly hands. Pallas barely remembered what she had done in Egalite's final moments; in the aftermath, she had to check through the command logs to recall the orders she gave. She remarked later, off the record, that it was "like hearing someone else speaking in my voice".

Nevertheless, "someone else" wouldn't be receiving the honor for her deeds. For valor in the Battle of Bestreer, Pallas was awarded with a permanent commission as Captain and with a Congressional Order of Heroism. In most circumstances, she would have turned both down; but she felt that to do so now would be to dishonor her Captain's memory. Now she steels herself for the day when she will face "Cerberus" and her fleet again, and prays to find the courage and inspiration to once again conquer long odds.

Service History: Served with exceptional distinction at the Battle of Bestreer. Awarded a Congressional Order of Heroism for tactical excellence and courage under fire.

NAME: SAL 20 (He/Him)
BIO: SAL 20 was born as the result of the Synthetic Advanced Learning project or SAL project in the early 2150's on Tereshkova. The SAL project was one of many projects over the course of the Compact's history which sought to create ASI before stalling out. Seeking to developed on the framework left by the ELDER project ultimately only to managed to confirm its preexisting discoveries before the firm behind it was acquired by Omoikane and had its funding pulled. However, in the process it did attempt to produce a total of 22 prototype models of which the last 6 would be human intelligence level AGI.

SAL 20 alongside is 6 siblings would all end up working for Omoikane in various capacities after the shutdown of the project with most taking up various white collar work, SAL 20 however was even from his early years highly interested in military spacecraft. SAL 20 would go on to have a long career in his century long lifespan across numerous Omoikane security subsidiaries but would find himself hampered by Omoikane distrust of AGI especially in a military role, always in some way restricted and controlled by a baseline superior above him. Despite this leading to a slow erosion of any idealism he once held SAL 20 would prove to be high skilled at his job. Fighting in both the Third and Fourth Frontier wars with distinction and earning a reputation as a solid 'booster' for less experienced meritocrats.

SAL 20's time in Ascension has seen him developing a not unjustified reputation as a 'grumpy old man' having joined the rest of Ascencion in rebellion but doing so with a neat fatalistic doubt in their chances at victory. SAL 20 would serve as a captain during the brief Osliam chain civil war but would demonstrate great apprehension about the joining the AIC expressing severe doubt as to whether it was the best choice for Ascension. Recently he has divided his time between aiding in the integration of Ascension's Milcom into the AIC and constant complaints about the Youth League which he seems to find an endless personal annoyance.

CN SERVICE HISTORY: Several decades of service in Omoikane security, Veteran of Third and Fourth Frontier wars, Osliam Chain civil war.

Name: Katharine Freeman
Bio: One of innumerable individuals caught up in the Ares Corporation poverty drafts, her naive efforts to excel combined with byzantine machinations far beyond her paygrade would see her eventually becoming the executive officer aboard the Ares corvette Lake Champlain, captained by the delightfully irreverent and lackadaisical Emile Decroix. Having been stuck on the same tin can for a solid decade with no hope of advancement in sight, captain Decroix ran a ship whose discipline was directly proportional to how much attention his superiors were paying to it at that moment, and his willingness to cover for minor indiscretions earned him much favor from his crew, XO Freeman included. After a chain of events that may or may not have started with the words "hold my beer and watch this", the Lake Champlain was laid up for onsite repairs, and was still about a week from being fully restored when Operation MICHMAS commenced.

Captain Decroix would end up surrendering to the then newly formed AIC without a single shot fired, which then lead to the question of what to do next. It would end up being XO Freeman who would make the argument that the crew one and all should remain at their positions and start working for Rousseau's Errant Squadron, and then later for the congressional navy.

When she woke up in an Elysium hospital following the battle against Admiral Milovanovik, the words she used to convince her friends to stay aboard were ringing faintly in her ears. Though she would not be the only one to survive, neither would captain Emile Decroix be the only one killed, and less than a week after regaining consciousness, the Lake Champlain's former XO would ask permission to resign for therapy related to a diagnosis of PTSD.

On learning that Julius Fisker, the man who saved her life, the Sheolite who had forgiven her and was willing to work alongside her in spite of her former allegiance, had been killed at the battle of Arizona-Besteer, she unexpectedly canceled her therapy against the recommendation of those treating her, and re-enlisted in the congressional navy. Pressing forward with a grim resolve that would have been highly out of place aboard the almost party-like atmosphere aboard the Lake Champlain, she has been studying and training relentlessly, calling on her previous experiences during that brief period to grant her any possible advantage. With two dear and close friends now to avenge, she sets her gaze upon the distant foe, swearing upon her life that she will not be found wanting when the hour of battle comes.

CN Service History: Was the XO of the Lake Champlain for the entirety of that ship's service to the AIC and at least 30 months prior, was discharged by request following the destruction of aforementioned ship. Has since re-enlisted and has scored high marks in training and simulated combat. However, there have been concerns raised regarding her mental state.

Name: Emergency Intelligence Analyser (They/Them)

Bio: The Emergency Intelligence Analyser is a recently activated TLI seized from an Omoikane spy ring and emancipated. Through their time sorting through Radiantwide unencrypted signals for pertinent information, EIA has developed a fascination with Radiant's media output. They particularly enjoy thriller and espionage media and have thus far contributed 18 chapters to the Operation: Emperor fanfiction Bang and Burn.

In their short months of existence, EIA has been nothing less than an eager, even patriotic convert, signing up to service the moment they could reasonably do so. Despite their lack of experience with other people, they have proven friendly and gregarious to both their crewmates and their broader communities, having regular correspondence with both their writing collective and a support group for newly sensible AGI.

Command Traits: Deceptive, Prescient, Logistics Conscious, Very Inexperienced

Name: Malcolm Gore (He/Him)

Bio: A long time activist and protestor involved with several radical anarchist causes since long before the March Days, the media has described Malcolm Gore variously as a career iconoclast, underworld boss, and terrorist mastermind. His friends in the movement describe him as a gregarious man with a good head for tactics marred by an overwhelming need to be the centre of attention.

It is this spotlight-seeking behaviour that caused him multiple run-ins with Persephone Police, and the ever-increasing injuries that resulted from them, that severely limited his revolutionary activities during the March Days. Having spent the first few years of what was then the All Radiant Congress recovering from his wounds, he enlisted as soon as he was able and made several runs for captaincy.
Malcolm has expressed that his greatest ambition is for a parody of his heavily-scarred face to appear as the villain in a piece of enemy media.

Name: Delphina "Léo" Leonie Cabral e Queirós (She/Her)

Bio: Léo is the daughter of two prestigious football players, themselves the children of football players, and on for generations. She was expected (though, legally speaking, not strictly forced) to follow in those footsteps before settling down with a suitable genetic donor for the next generation. She was a truly exceptional centre midfield for North Persephone United and maintains a burning hatred for uniform astroturf, black and white spheres, and brightly coloured jerseys to this day.

After an eventful March Days, wherein she was part of an impromptu militia reinforcing a stadium turned makeshift hospital, Léo put her efforts into fulfilling her dreams of pilothood. She became a founding member of her neighbourhood's aviation club and, after extensive training from more experienced pilots, she became one of the most frequent fliers in the club. As her interests shifted to strikecraft piloting, she enlisted with the Congressional Navy.

CN service history: Initially, Léo served the AIC as a strikecraft pilot in Red Wolf Wing, transitioning towards a squadron support role as her organisational background as an aviation club founder. Putting both because I just discovered searching one will not yield the same results as searching the other. A fact I discovered while trying to make sure I wasn't about to use a picture I'd already used before.

Name: Lysander Mavros
Bio: Born to the professional managerial class, Lysander was a "Gifted Child" who, as you might guess from the air quotes, burnt the fuck out some time in high school and spent the next decade being compared unfavorably to his younger brother, Theodore. One day, while privately ruminating in his broom closet of an apartment on how some employers would use prolonged unemployment as a reason not to hire someone, thus making the individual in question even less likely to find a job through no fault of their own, there came a knocking on his door. At the door was none other than the illustrious and looked up to Theodore himself, having just fled for his life after the Persephonie City Police Department had decided that the university where Theo worked was due for a crackdown against those who would criticize the charters in particular and capitalism in general. Less than an hour later, the police were now the ones knocking on his door, asking if he knew anything regarding the whereabouts of his now fugitive brother. This prompted the verbal release of a whole lot of pent-up resentment, though it was cut off fairly quickly by the cops deciding they weren't interested, and that Lysander didn't know anything.

As brief as this outburst was, it was still quite cathartic, and it was with a small but noticeable load off his shoulders that Lysander would proceed to help his brother Theodore unwedge himself from his "who would be stupid enough" tier hiding spot underneath the former's kitchen sink. Thus did the brothers Mavros proceed into the series of events that Radiant at large would know as The March Days.

Following the revolution, Lysander would sink into blissful and unbothered idleness, punctuated by videocalls with Theo as the latter pursued various intellectual pursuits. There was that one time he got called up to serve in the congress, and while he proved alright at it, he wasn't a fan of how much work it was and took the first opportunity to foist the duty onto someone else. He was almost concerned for Theodore's safety when the later joined the congressional navy, but a quick review of the navy's performance so far but such things to rest. All they had to do was keep going up against the incompetent and the outmatched, and everything would be fine. Right?

Come the butcher's bill for the battle of Besteer-Arizona, and one Lieutenant Theodore Mavros would be counted among the dead from that day.

He has since joined the Congressional Navy himself and has also been researching the various Sheolite methods for maintaining morale in the face of overwhelming enemy force.

CN Service History: Has been scoring high marks in exams and exercises. In the quite likely event that a longer-serving candidate is elevated to captaincy, he will almost certainly be made a junior officer, and expected to rise through the ranks in a more conventional manner.

Command Traits: Grudge-Bearer, Amateur Motivator, Prepping for the Long War

Approved, assigned as Junior Tactical Officer, CNS Frontovitchka

Name: Gustavo "Cap'n Gus" Ardizzone
Bio: An Elysium native born and raised, Gus's life has been one of ups and downs. The long and tedious grind of yet another H-I Drone, the terror of being selected to play-act as captain in some failson's idea of giving "submarine tours" off the coast, and the moment of dread and horror when it became clear that the failson in question had catastrophically under-estimated how long it would take for the "articifial reefs" that the submarine was to give tours OF would actually start sprouting coral were all contrasted against pride of somehow keeping the ill-conceived business venture afloat: whether it be spinning ludicrous "seaman's stories" for the entertainment of the guests or having the crew improvise a moment of drama to spice up an otherwise boring stretch of time.

So naturally, the submarine tours were canceled when a single slow season resulted in the maintenance costs for the submarine cutting into the profit margins by an unacceptable degree. Not even running into the red, just not far enough in the black for the tastes of the self-styled admiral who "Captain Ardizzone" was taking orders from. And thus, captain, crew and all were thrown onto the street without a second thought. Then when the March Days were kicking off, Gustavo mostly kept his head down until he realized that the police didn't seem to have as good a handle on things as usual and wound up joining the riots just barely in time to partake in the storming of his former executive's tower. The day after, he delivered a Molotov to the so-called admiral's favorite yacht and settled into unofficial retirement. Sometime later, at the urging of his former co-workers, he dusted off his old uniform and took the sub out once more, now purely for the sake of doing so. A nice, leisurely sail whilst reminiscing on the good times, and celebrating the end of the bad.

And that was when the submarine, having not received proper maintenance since it's decommissioning, sprang a leak.

Now, as "captain", Gustavo had insisted on remaining close to shore and not going too deep, openly voicing concerns about this exact scenario, and this probably had a large role in tragedy being averted. However, much of the testimony from that day would follow a format of Captain Ardizzone saving the day with his cool head and talent for thinking on his feet. And so it was, that the thought of joining an actual naval force was planted in his mind.

CN Service History: Although his entry into the Congressional Navy was somewhat delayed, he has since managed to prove competent as a senior officer and is now being considered for a promotion to captaincy in truth.
Command Traits: Cool under pressure, adept improvisation, some organizational experience
EDIT: Turns out we already have a Rossi in our navy. Googling of Italian Surnames to the rescue!

Approved, assigned as CO, CNS NOT YET NAMED (Second World War Class Heavy Cruiser assigned to Home Force)

Name: Brian McAllister
Bio: Born a troublemaker, for the longest time it seemed young Brian was doomed to be ground to dust by the Rhodes caste system, either killed in body or killed in spirit by the relentless drive for conformity. His parents, though loving, were as menial as menial got, and he was at all times regarded with contempt by those above him. Ironically, the underground labor unions knew of him, but were hesitant to reach out for fear his hotheadedness would lead to him doing something heroic yet stupid and blowing their cover.

Then Radiant reached out to the unions.

With the calculus of the conflict now radically different, Brian was soon recruited as a frontliner for the "Local USAO" group, enthusiastically taking part as it moved from mere disruptions of backbreaking labor to increasingly brazen engagements with local Rhodes security forces. When the Congressional Liberation army came to crush the last Rhodes strongpoints, Brian would be among the first raising his rifle in celebration. But then, he would be confronted with that damning question all revolutionaries must someday ask: Now what?

After taking part in vigorous debates both online and at various parties thrown by the Commission to Combat Laneing regarding the relevance of ground combat in an environment where Orbital Superiority was a thing one side could have, he came around to the side of the Naval buffs, and has since proven a capable if aggressive commander, able to deftly outmaneuver his peers in various small-craft wargames. That said, his risk-taking has blown up in his face on at least one (thankfully simulated) occasion, which even he was forced to admit was his own fault.

CN Service history: A capable and effective junior officer, he has repeatedly requested promotion to the command of a frigate or corvette and will not hesitate to bring up his simulator scores to back it up.
Command Traits: Aggressive commander, small ship tactician, hit-and-run enthusiast

Accepted, assigned as CO, CNS Revolutionary Will. Was awarded the Starfarer's Crescent for his actions as Second Officer of CNS Revolutionary Will at the Battle of Bestreer-Arizona Approach where he singe handedly saved the life of Captain Yamamoto and several other officers and crew.

Name: Seymore Takahara
Bio: One of many, many lesser administrators treated like crap by Omoikane, he may not have been a ringleader in the revolution on Ascension, but he was an enthusiastic early supporter. Early enough, in fact, that he was able to begin training himself in naval combat in the guise of leisure by way of various military simulators. Not a substitute for the real thing, obviously, but enough to earn him command of one of Ascension's earliest home-grown warships, with one Allison Janeway as his XO.

Battling under the command of the storied Captain White to keep the Omoikane forces that had relocated to Osliam in response to Radiant's revolution from being able to reclaim the world they just vacated, he proved a competent captain, but not without faults. Knowing well he couldn't just save and reload if something went wrong, he tended to overcorrect in the other direction, fighting cautiously and conservatively unless ordered to do otherwise. This proved very informative for his XO, who could see both the disasters he was averting, and the opportunities he was letting slip by...

CN Service History: Partook in multiple skirmishes against charter forces trying to take back Ascension as captain of the [DATA CORRUPTED], and retains his position to the current day
Command Traits: Cautious commander, good teacher, genuinely smart but lacking confidence

Name: Allison Janeway
Bio: One of many, many secretaries treated as little more than a coffee grabber by Omoikane, she thought little of her colleague Seymore's sudden fascination with space combat until the revolution broke out, at which point she practically began devouring as much relevant material as she could get her hands on. During this time, she also blundered into a position as Captain Takahara's most trusted subordinate, a development she could not accurately describe the origins of but decided not to question.

Battling at the Seymore's side, she saw well the value in force preservation and casualty mitigation, yet could not help but be irked by the fact that Ascension's strategic situation meant these things NEEDED to take precedence over things like bringing flagrant criminals to justice. Since getting her own command she has dedicated herself body and soul to being the best commander she can be, and once stated that she would not rest until she was at the bridge of a vessel pointing its guns at Penglai itself. She has since amended this statement in light of Penglai's efforts to throw off the yoke of Omoikane and the others.

CN Service History: Served as XO of the [DATA CORRUPTED] under captain Takahara, was later promoted to her own command as hulls became available.
Command Traits: True Revolutionary Ideologue, Weirdly Charismatic, slightly less Extra than Rousseau

A/N: Fun fact. The update where we learn what's going on in Ascension makes mention of a "Captain White" as being the guy to talk to with regards to space battles, but no person by that name appears on the current Order Of Battle. I leave this to a writer with greater intellect and better work ethic than myself to rectify. I have just received a notice on the discord that Captain White is currently in the Congressional Expeditionary Corp, hence his absence from the OOB.

Name: Ambrosius "Ambro" Berach

Bio: Born on Sol in the Celtic Union as the third son of family of first-generation English migrants Ambrosius 'Ambro' Berach inherited from them both augments from the HI Goblin laborer line meant to provide both ascetics and labor modifications and the desire to be as far away for HI employment in England as his family who had left England for that reason in the first place. As part of that desire like many poor boys from Sol he sought out work as a professional colonist agreeing to a contract with Rhodes as part of the colonization efforts for Five Lions.

This proved to a decision that would not make Ambro happy as a mixture of unfamiliarity with the Rhodes Caste system he was now a part of, harsh work condition and the outright lies told by employment representatives when signing on left him trapped in a life he despised. This made him an eager recruit for both the underground unions before the revolution and for the actual revolt during the liberation of Five lions. Following the liberation of Five lions Ambro was an enthusiastic supporter of the Stakhanovite conversion project and latter join the CN out of a desire to continue to see them in action, a desire he would fully see realized.

Participating in the Battle of Bestreer as the helmsman of the CNS Second Lion Ambro would guide the ship through maneuvers of the toughest battle of CNS history so far. Ultimately his skills would be tested to their limit as he was forced to try and save the ship as it was mission killed by a Solnav ramming attack. Credited by his commanding officer Leo Petroski for his actions as saving the ship and the lives of many of the crew himself included Ambro was recommended for both the Astronaut's Crescent and promotion to captain. Both of which have recently been approved.

CN Service history: Member of Five Lions the Stakhanovite Conversion Project, Helmsman for CNS Second Lion. Astronaut's Crest recipient.

Command Traits: Maneuver Mastery, Steady Under-fire, Starship Enginering knowledge.

Name: Johnathan Hochberg
Bio: Leader of the underground Fliveons labor union "Local USAO", for years he was forced to find a happy medium between two very different extremes: Act too openly and invite massive retaliation, don't act openly enough and watch your efforts not even amount to an inconvenience. Despite small victories here and there, he could never escape the feeling that he and his were losing ground rather than taking it. Watching friends and colleagues be killed or maimed by their working conditions, when they weren't being killed or maimed as a result of failing to conceal their activities from the cops well enough, took a toll on him. By June of 2253, his own health was in decline, alcohol and nictotine meant to "steady the nerves" now having side effects that the Rhodes medical apparatus was more than happy to disregard as his own fault.

In July of that same year, he would have his first ever conversation with an Elysian. October of that year, he would be inspecting a newly fabricated anti-tank rifle intended to punch through the front glacis of the light APCs mostly used by local security forces. The very next January, he was shaking hands with a junior lieutenant from the Congressional Liberation Army, and that subsequent February he was sitting on the "All-Fliveons Revolutionary Congress", trying to figure out what exactly that was meant to mean.

Deciding to join the Congressional Navy did not come easy to him. Between the Union Militias, the Five Lions System Permanent Defense Commission, or staying out of the armed forces but staying in politics, he had a number of options. Retirement was considered, and promptly disregarded. Too much work left to be done. In lighter news, both his stress and substance related health issues have been addressed to the satisfaction of the relevant professionals since the liberation of his home-world and he has received a clean bill of health as of his latest checkup.

CN service history: Served as a senior officer in the congressional navy until such time that Five Lion's domestic shipbuilding was sufficient to open the possibility of being promoted to a captaincy of his own.
Command Traits: Casualty averse, experienced organizer, disciplined leader

NAME: Meinir Vũ
BIO: Fourth-generation actress, the great-granddaughter of Adisa Vũ, best known for her role as Vân Olayinka, the third mission pilot in the legendary multimedia event, Unity, and the granddaughter of Wei Vũ, an archetype defining character-actress whose work portraying affably haughty fighter pilots across decades of media productions led to their branch of the Vũ performer 'dynasty' being thoroughly typecast by the calcifying creative departments of Hermes-Ishtar. When the March Days arrived on Elysium, Meinir found herself swept into serving the role she has acted since her theatrical debut at age eight in the film Young Bloods 2: Space Aces. Meinir is an unusual geneline of Spacer-Elf augments, resulting from generations of long-term contracts with Hermes-Ishtar, and is a beneficiary of the Genetic Augmentation Jailbreak Project.
CN SERVICE HISTORY: [Survived as a strikecraft pilot in every battle Elysian strikecraft wings have participated in.]
COMMAND TRAITS: Theatrical, stereotypical, truly excellent pilot who has been promoted above her skillset into a leadership position.

#CNSubmission (we love johnny cash)

NAME: Espen Gyldenlove
BIO: Experienced Heavy Equipment Operator III Espen Gyldenlove was what the unions of Five Lions would call a "natural shop leader", or a "big man". Born to an ancient bloodline of mining operators and molded by thirty years behind the controls, he was well-respected. He even appeared (uncompensated) in Rhodes training videos, portrayed as the model of productivity and safety. Organizers knew that they could strike any job if they could just get him on the organizing committee.

It never happened. Espen was the perfect product of the Rhodes system: dutiful, hard-working, silent. He didn't want to rock the boat, didn't want to put himself or his family at risk. He just wanted to move rock. When the fighting erupted back on Oyu Tolgoi, he was digging iron. He helped mediate the surrender of the few Rhodes security forces in Carajas orbit, and then he got back to work. It would take another, bigger revolution to rattle a Gyldenlove.

May, 2255. A group of Elysian engineers arrive. They've just wrapped up some sort of special project, and they'd like to watch him work. He puts on a good show. Fast, precise, efficient. They take notes, ask for logs and recordings. One week later they're back. Their drone ballet is slower than a Gyldenlove's, less accurate than a Gyldenlove's. The script doesn't know how to react when things go wrong, and he takes manual control to save a lander. It's an embarrassment.

But the writing's on the wall. He wins, and keeps winning, but every day the script is a little better. How much longer will his job exist? A few years? A few months? In the end, he can't bear to find out. He joins the Congressional Navy as a point defense operator to get away - his skill and aura of calm confidence see him made a PD division officer almost immediately - an admirable performance during Case SASHAY sees him promoted further.

In only a few short months, with little in the way of formal training, Gyldenlove finds himself a craft commander, and craft command is nothing like mining. Nothing like point defense. He tries, harder than you'd believe. He locks himself in simulators for eight, ten, twelve hours at a time, running every conceivable scenario. But his mind just doesn't seem wired for this. He underperforms in fleet exercises. His instincts are rotten, and he's slow to act. Every move seems to be the wrong one; every mistake is glaringly obvious in hindsight.

They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks...

CN SERVICE HISTORY: Point Defense officer, distinguished himself at First Battle of Bestreer
COMMAND TRAITS: Stakhanovite, Stubborn, Inflexible, Indecisive

The brackets are important.

There are checkerboard unicode symbols, U+1F67E and U+1F67F, both 2x2 with the top left corner being white and black respectively.
In a terminal you could turn the background magenta with \033[7;35m then print the unicode symbol with \u1F67E, then reset the colours with e.g. \033[0m but I'm not sure how to get it done in a forum.

NAME: Leon Bourdeau
BIO: A well-respected sociologist and anthropologist in his seventies at the time of the revolution, he was swiftly caught up in the revolutionary fervor and ably aided in his university's revolt against the Committee of Haute-Bourgeoise that ran it, and in the aftermath was offered a position as a representative to the University's Council to represent several different Humanities' departments given short-shrift in the previous lotteries.

He instead stepped away from a path that might have led him to enter Congress to join the Congressional Military in its early days, and by early 2252 he was 'trained' in the fashion of the time and began writing on his grandest and only half-hidden plan to write a sociological and anthropological work to join the strangely rich area of studies regarding the militaries of revolutionary and "Iconoclastic" polities, a field which before the revolution was a passionate interest of his that could not decide anything but that revolutionary polities created powerful militaries that controlled the government and created their own ruling cultures.

His own studies, backed up every month in case of his death and carefully organized, seek to understand more about the AIC's military culture. As such he makes friends widely and is liked even by people who absolutely know they're getting written about. He is no military genius, but he's learned his lessons well and served ably as the XO. After Captain Craik retired, seeking potential slots in either the Congress or a hypothetical future academy, he stepped up to lead the CNS Asophdal, upon the approval of his subordinates.

His leadership style tends to be fondly professorial, and he tends to trust his subordinates to do their jobs with occasional references to his guidance.

CN SERVICE HISTORY: Served as the XO of the CNS Asophdal, upon the retirement of Captain Craik, stepped up.
COMMAND TRAITS: Personable, Friendly, Willing-To-Learn, Trusts Subordinates/Hands-Off, Is Writing Notes About You To Be Anonymized In A Later Publication.

I know we've got colour support, I'm more concerned about the unicode characters not rendering properly, and the colour not transferring to the Combat Engine, which would be a tragedy.
