[X] Action Plan: Respect Their Autonomy

1) Console the dogs and explain the options are to call off the mission and return to Dog or continue to the Conclave.
A) Console them about the losses, but grief can wait since we need to make decisions now.
B) Explain how going to Dog/Conclave both have a risk of further Hyena attacks.
C) The mountains are closer and it ought to be safe once we get there.
D) Hazou recommends going to the Conclave, and once there may be able to more safely return to Dog. Also, the future of the world may depend on it.
E) Let them decide, but play up their goal of seeking the horizon despite the risks and everything that potentially hangs in the balance.
2) Seal up the dead (Dog and Hyena, separately)
3) Ferry all dogs to the Skytower (enlarged for all to be comfortable), return to Human Path, summon all dogs, stay awake until fully healed with only brief returns to the Skytower to sleep when necessary. Noburi for recharge at a planned schedule to return and resummon.
4) Once fully healed, run to the mountains as fast as possible. Don't plan to sleep, the goal is speed. Noburi on standby to evacuate the 7th Path again (waiting in the Clan Head office for the day* this ought to take) if there's a repeat of this ambush.
5) Use prompt and lethal force against any Hyenas that get in the way, no more negotiating, gifts, or hesitation.
6) If they choose to return to Dog then do so by way of the mountains to avoid the Hyena lands until closer to the Dog border.

*200 miles took about three days to travel, that's a pace of about 65mpd, but including sleeping at night and negotiation delays. They have about 100 miles to go to reach safety from the Hyena packs. If they continue at night, even at a slower rate, they should get to the mountains and ostensible safety from the Hyenas in one day.

We could wait here for a week until Hazou heals. Hazou can Summon them to the Human Path where they'd be more comfortable, then return to the Summon Path to sleep.
I cannot imagine that Hazou can go to the Seventh Path while the Dogs are on the Human Path without shunting said Dogs back with him. Simply chilling on Skytowers is IMO the option here. That and making it a midair fortress, because Haiwari is going to be pissed given our luck.

Hey, we can always prototype Hidden Heaven designs :p

Uh... yes. That is the point. Hazou stays on the estate for medical treatment and Sealing research, and the dogs can stay on the human path. But when Hazou needs to go back, since he can't maintain their presence while asleep, they will all go back.

Do you think we can create defenses that can repel a Boss? I'm skeptical it'll do anything more than piss her off. Even these chuunin Hyenas had some nasty Ranged abilities.

I see; I had not gotten that impression.

I will observe concern that if a Hyena (or anyone else) pops that 5SB, there's going to be a lot of dead bodies.

KAGOME: *snerk*

We should probably move a bit and set up another camouflaged skytower. Then leave for the Human Path from that one.

A camouflaged skytower should be absurdly difficult to spot at night. So we have a good chance of going undetected.

I mean...half the essie battle is being able to attack them and get them to sit still. So...maybe? Enough banshees and db stacks, implosion seal stacking, explosives should also stack if done in unison. Theoretically, an essie would die a horrible death.

This is not how the mechanics are set up. I highly doubt it would play out that way whatsoever.

If we want to kill an essie we need to do it the same way we killed a Dragon. Bait them into a skyslicer.

Isn't the whole point that they are invulnerable? Unless you mean they target the seals somehow (I thought they were on top of the invincible platform). But if we're that concerned just place it higher up

EDIT: alternatively, just set up a skytower to sleep and come down in the morning. Has its own issues though.

The platform isn't invincible, the wire is. Everything else is just wrapped around it. But true, we could place it high up enough that Haiwari can't plausibly reach it.

Hopefully.

Maybe.

We're betting a couple of sad puppers' lives on it.

[x] Action Plan: Hazou End a Combat Without a Medium Consequence Challenge (Impossible)
Word Count: ~290
  • Immediate aftermath
    • Call down some Shadow Clones to help ferry remaining Dogs to Skytowers.
    • Seal up the dead if there's time.
    • Console remaining Dogs, apologize for failing to save the others.
    • Hazou is injured. He probably can't outrun the Hyenas until he's healed.
    • Do they still want to push on? Pangolin is likely closer than Dog by now.
    • Strategies:
      • The group could stay on Skytowers until Hazou heals. Optionally, Hazou could Summon them to the Human Path to be more comfortable, then everyone returns to the Summon Path to sleep.
      • Hazou could send clones ahead to set up skytowers, then ferry the Dogs in stretchers from skytower to skytower. He'll need time each day to scribe more skywalkers though.
      • Hazou could request aid from other Summoners, though they may be unable or unwilling to help.
      • Hazou could try reasoning directly with the Hyena boss.
    • Relay situation to Cannai and get his opinion on which strategy to pursue. Deliver dead Dogs if remaining Horizon Chasers wish it.
  • Run situation by Goketsu after Summoning Horizon Chasers with help from Noburi refills, get their opinion on which strategies to pursue.
    • Group is still a few days away from Pangolin or the mountains.
    • Kei, would Ruri and/or the Condors be willing to help us reach Pangolin? Perhaps she could Summon a few for us to negotiate with directly?
    • Optimize a speech for Hiawari if she shows up grumpy.
      • Cannai was unwilling to aid against the Pangolins, but Hazou may be inclined.
      • Hazou could describe in detail the destruction wrought by Dragons to the Archaeopteryx and Arachnids, and emphasize the importance of getting the Conclave to cooperate.
      • Hazou could otherwise bribe her somehow.
  • If the group opts to wait out the week, research goo bombs.
Updated to ask the Dogs if they'd still like to press on, and hopefully clear up that Hazou would also be on the human path if he summons them to be more comfortable.

Also, goo bombs

We might be able to see if Ino or anyone else has any meditation techniques she can spare that would allow us to avoid sleep.

e: Not in the "be productive while asleep" sense but in the "remain conscious, still acquire rest" sense.

Fun demographics question that arose from a joke one of my Naruto 5e players made; Which is least likely?

1. 40-year old Genin
2. 40-year old Chunin
3. 40-year old Jonin

My argument is for the 40-year old Chunin being least common, as they're in the skill overlap between "Goes on dangerous missions" but not quite in the bracket "Survives dangerous missions."

If we decide to wait the week, we should probably start creating Skywalkers in bulk with Hazou(If he can) and/or Kagome.
I would also like for Hazou to take note of some landmarks to find the place again in the future.
Once we can without dying, i want to have words with the Hyena packs that thought killing our people was a good idea.

EDIT: Also, adding "use Shadow Clones" to the "Hyena boss negotiation" could be a good idea. Also moving the Skytower high enough Hiawari cannot reach it if Cannai thinks we're not safe from her attacks.

What did Hazou's rolls look like?

Also, was it confirmed that you don't leave a body behind when summoned to the Human Path? Because the Hyenas may well find a way to kill a bunch of sleeping Dogs clearly visible in the sky. We only rose out of jutsu range.

MfD Rules said:
Summon creatures are regular characters built according to the normal rules. A summoner may pay chakra to summon any denizen of the Summon Realm with whom they make a summon pact. When they are summoned, their body disappears from the Seventh Path and their consciousness is put into a chakra body on the Human Path. Their real body reappears back on the Seventh Path when the chakra body ends, either voluntarily or violently

  • Any spare downtime:
    • Scribe any needed skywalkers
    • Research in order:
      • Goo bombs (withhold SSA if Hazou thinks it's faster.)
      • Higher Velocity Macerators.
      • Do 1 day of prep on Dragon's Roar Seal to gauge difficulty. (Resolve attacking seal akin to Dragon's roaring effect on Hazou.)
I have updated the last bit of the plan to be downtime use, if we have any. We generally travel ~8 hours a day which would be time to make skywalkers but not do research. But if we're staying put until the Medium heals, we could also be doing research.

Genin IMO. How do you make it to 40 without the skills to become chūnin? You could theoretically make it to 40 without acquiring the skills, as in, not pick them up while getting older, but would you make it to 40, without those skills? Sometimes the mission is harder. Sometimes the mission has surprises. Sometimes there's a chakra sheep you didn't see. Especially if your skins are genin-level.
I would in fact presume the jōnin to be the rarest, because jōnin are just, they're just the cream of the crop. At 40, I'd expect someone to survive with chūnin skills, but I'd never expect any ninja to be a jōnin. Not with MfD canon at least. In Naruto canon, sure, sure, jōnin everywhere.
