GODSTAR - a Science Fantasy Civilization Quest

[X] Subnational Commandery
I still prefer that one as keeping the army itself is cool but I don't want state subdivisions in our civ.

[] Demilitarized Zone
Still better than the other extreme IMO.

a society centered around the army which is centered around war and violence is not good imo

The thing is I would like to avoid pissing of the MAAUH too much. Full integration sets us up for a conflict quite obviously imo.

The DSS is certainly not the best options but it feels pragmatic in a way that avoids a clash between the League and the MAAUH over who gets to unify Paradisea. The Subnational Commandery messes up our internal coherence and basically satisfies no one. Its just a golden parachute for the CIC which feels unnecessary.

At the end of the day the DSS just means the MALM integrates into our economy and we have some oversight over them which isn't the worst deal in the world. It basically strengthens a valuable ally and gives impulses to MAAUH reformers, especially if we decide to support them next turn.

For me its either DSS or full integration. And full integration doesn't have a lot of votes rn either.

I don't see how you can reject the Subnational Commandery on the basis of it messing up our internal coherence while supporting the much more incoherent system of a whole region being military only. It's a decent argument for full integration, but I'll pick medium incoherence of what amounts to a national guard for one state among our federal system over the colossal incoherence of territorial based military/civilian society divide.

You're treating the DSS like it's a framework upgrade for an ally. But it isn't, this is an integration option. One that put them inside our unified structure without doing any integration. I would rather cancel the integration and keep them as allies with this democratization change if they're dead set on keeping up military society. But they aren't, so we shouldn't do that.

I'll adjust depending on which one is winning.

I think that subnational commandry basically make the pure military of the machine army its own military branch, like having both the Navy and Marines.
It's not a nation within our nation.

I think it's basically a national guard, in the US sense. A military branch that answers to a state in the federal construct rather than directly to the federal government. I don't think it generalizes it to the rest of the league like a new military branch would.

@ScottishMongol can you tempoary threadmark the vote open post so I can accuratley count the vote from then? instead of from the the story post since there a bunch of posts before the mortatium

The idea of society so fundamental focus on combat, militarised to the point where civilian government do not exist is nothing but repugnant, no matter how that society is governed. If we are to accept the society where people have no choice but to participate in what will eventually be feed in to machine of war and be part of military regardless of their belief, we might as well reinstate serfdom and slavery.
