[] Hire both

Far as the rest of it I'm not sure. I very definitely want them both around, though.

"Hopefully, by the time they get around to actually asking questions, your mind will have been put at ease enough that we can share more." Jenna smiles comfortingly. "Only if you're willing, of course."

You hope you can get comfortable with the idea of sharing. You don't like being paranoid and suspicious, you want to spread knowledge; but Mother and Father would want you to see to your own safety first and foremost. While you'll bend that rule to help friends like Artemis and Sypha… you're not willing to do it for a bunch of strangers. Not yet, at least.
I was thinking that it would be a good idea to learn more about the specific Revisionists Jenna was contacting just from the first paragraph, but the second paragraph feels like it was written to point that option out.

(I'm pointing it out in case I'm wrong and this isn't obvious to everyone.)

Sometimes, you wonder if [the archduke] ever does anything other than eat, meet visiting nobles, and work. Surely he has to have some hobbies; it's not healthy to dive too deep into work that you neglected yourself.
If he's lucky, he's the sort of freak who likes talking with people. That would make noble work a lot more bearable.

You blink. "You want me to lie?" you said.
"If necessary, then yes," the Archduke said bluntly.

[...]

"asically we're there to watch your back in case someone tries to stick a knife in it." As you gape at her, she sighs. "Kid, you've got some good friends here by the looks of it, but not everyone's gonna be your friend."

Ryza, you sweet summer child. Thank the Mother you were found by virtuous nobles who care about you as a person and not just an asset.

...I wonder how she'd react if she found another slumbering manakete who'd been awakened like her, and was promptly exploited by an ignoble noble.

One woman asks why you didn't take Sypha straight home, but your friend is able to spin a story about going in a different direction than expected to throw the wyvern off that you'd have believed if you hadn't been there.
Good thing Letoro had Ryza speak last, so she'd get fewer "gotcha" questions.

You start as you realize Kopoi is standing next to the Archduke. When had he gotten here, you hadn't seen him at all?!
That's his job, Ryza.

[Artemis] looks at you seriously. "Ryza, what are you thinking of doing? You'll probably have time to do it, though depending on what exactly's going on things could get very messy very fast."
Oof. I'm not sure what Ryza would want here; my intuition is she'd want someone else to make that decision for her. (She's just a kid!) But that's probably not the best choice, even if it's someone who has Ryza's interests in mind.

For now, I'll vote for something where Ryza's inclinations are obvious (now that Kelton's explained why he doesn't want to go home yet):
[X] Hire both

[] Hire both

Far as the rest of it I'm not sure. I very definitely want them both around, though.
Remember, you need the X for the vote to count.

Here's the stuff we left behind:
[] Scrolls: Large rolls of parchment with informational texts. You already know what a lot of them of them say, but a few stand out as being about topics you're less knowledgeable about.
- [] On Humans: Cousins or Parasites?
- [] From Dragon to Manakete: A History of our People
- [] A Mother's Wisdom: Words from the First Mother
- [] Beast, Bird and Monster
- [] A Traveler's Guide to the Tribal Lands

[] Tablets: Typically used to aid in spellcasting, these stone tablets have been carved with runes. You can also use these to help you learn new magic, though that will take time.
- [] Firecall: An enhancer for the Red tribe's fire magic. You were never trained in this, but with this you could probably use lesser fire magic.
- [] Hurricane: An enhancer for the Green tribe's wind magic. You were never trained in this, but with this you could probably use lesser wind magic.
- [] Mother's Hymn: An enhancer for the White tribe's light magic. You were never trained in this, but with this you could probably use lesser light magic.
- [] Dark Shroud: An enhancer for the Black tribe's shadow magic. You were never trained in this, but with this you could probably use lesser shadow magic.

Humans appear incapable of making tablets, since they can't make magical tools that don't burn out. They could be invaluable, and we probably don't want them falling into the wrong hands. Some of the scrolls might be of use too, especially for the project of rehabilitating Manakete in the eyes of humanity.

I'm leaning towards going back and grabbing stuff. Anything we can't carry we can hide well enough to keep it safe. Bury it in a chest or something if necessary. I think getting approval at the Marble Hall can wait; it's only necessary so that she can officially do what she's already doing unofficially. It also seems like a significant risk.

As for learning, I'm thinking Awakening and White. Awakening the Dragon properly is critical to avoiding long term psychological issues, I think, and while I'm tempted by Runewrighting, I think being able to heal serious wounds properly is higher priority. Especially since I suspect that Runewrighting, while eventually very powerful, will also probably be time consuming to learn and use.

For boons and banes, all of the banes look really bad, but being warmly received seems like it will offer the biggest dividends in the very long run. Ryza needs to be able to live and operate amongst these people with a minimum of social conflict and suspicion for her to achieve long term goals. Acceptance is a priceless gift we just can't get another way. If we had to take a bane I think I would go with a setback for the North, but even that could be Very Not Good.

I don't have strong feelings about the social choices, I'm open to suggestions there.

It's ours, and we've gone to the effort to get it, we should probably check over everything now that it's calm.

[] Social
-[] Kelton
-[] Belle (Only available if hired as Retainer)
We're hiring them we should connect with them.

[] Boons: I don't plan on taking this many but I'm interested in peoples' thoughts.
-[] Your nature is warmly received by the Kingdoms.
Always better than the alternative. Fairly important.
-[] Unexpected but welcome allies arrive.
Mystery box of limited scope.
-[] The world at large receives good fortune.
Mystery box of unlimited scope.
-[] A boon unique to your path forward appears.
I really think if we go Marble Hall or Home we're going to either want or need this.

[] Banes:
-[] Your nature is coldly received by the Kingdoms.
Yikes.
-[] The North suffers a setback.
Who's the North and why do we care about them? Good candidate for pulling an extra boon.
-[] A terrible nightmare rends your soul.
Um, that'll, uh, make us lean on our friends...or be uncool.
-[] Dark forces march at the worst possible moment.
Thinking this is something we don't want.
-[] A shadow moves beyond your sight.
We could give Team Shadow another move, but I'm wary of too many of those. I think Sypha getting bagged was the last time one of these happened?
-[] A bane unique to your path forward appears.
Yeah, no, I don't think so?

Probably Unique Boon and Nature Boon for North Bane, but I'm otherwise on-board with Taliesen's plan.

Hiring both seems like the easy call IMO.

As for the Plan portion, I'm leaning towards returning home. If we've got a war coming and it's on the border it may be some time before we can next visit it. From there I ended up kind of settling on mostly a theme of reunions - whether with people (Belle), with a place (home), or more conceptual stuff (like Runes). Social with Belle because she's a new party member. Continuing to work on our learning and getting along with Ryza's dragon-self and picking up runewriting which serves both as a connection to her dad as well as something that has come up multiple times as useful to know in maintaining and working with stuff around the castle. I also feel like my boon/bane choices kind of set up nicely as the war/political situation gets worse but Ryza finds reasons to hope, possibly related to her visit home possibly not.

...I can't justify the social option with Siri as working into all that I just like her and want to talk with her lol.

"After being interrogated by him for a while, he was generous enough to provide an escort back to the Kingdoms, and we made our own way back here."

You frown. "Interrogated?" you ask worridly.

Robin raises a placating hand. "Just a precaution on his part, nothing hostile.
I feel like "questioned" would be a more accurate term than "interrogated" here. (Note: This is a criticism of Robin, not the QM. The writing is fine as is.)

"Yes Your Highness,"
Should be a comma after "Yes".

just ignoring the crowd and keeping talking.
I feel like this should be "continuing to talk".

Countess Mantrae asked for your help find Sypha
"finding"

"You want me to lie?" you said.
"asked"

but you hadn't want him to think he'd gotten to you.
"wanted"

Which direction did it come from, when it was flying back to the camp.
This sentence should end in a question mark.

"But Kopoi, when did you get back."
This sentence should also end in a question mark.

[X] Plan To The Hall
-[X] You need to go to the Marble Hall to get accredited. The fact that the Empire is apparently having problems means that you need to do this sooner rather than later, so you don't get caught up in anything. (Gain one extra Learning option)
-[X] Social Options: Who do you get to know better?
--[X] Sypha
--[X] Jenna (Only available if going to Marble Hall)
-[X] Learning Options (Can choose the same option multiple times to focus on it)

-[X] Boons:
--[X] Your nature is warmly received by the Kingdoms.
--[X] A boon unique to your path forward appears.
-[X] Banes:
--[X] The North suffers a setback.

Reasoning:

Marble Hall: With open war likely to break out between the Kingdoms and the Empire, I doubt we'll get another chance to get accredited for a very long time, whereas not stopping by Ryza's home only costs us some of the things we left there (which I believe we will have an easier time compensating for) and not going anywhere means we aren't getting anything done, which seems like a bad idea to me.

Social: We probably won't be seeing Sypha again for a while and Jenna is only available if we go to the Marble Hall, so they're my top priorities here.

Learning: First, allow me to preface this by reminding anyone who forgot or didn't read carefully enough that visiting the Marble Hall lets us take an extra Learning option, so this plan has three to work with. With that out of the way, Yellow Magic to improve our combat ability (I'm hoping we'll be able to get access to a more powerful attack and/or be able to cast Elthunder without Thunder's Cry soon), Path of Awakening because we do need to work on getting Dragon!Ryza on the same page as Heart!Ryza, and Runewrighting because I strongly suspect that will be critical to coming up with an alternative to Dragonstones for human magic use.

Boons: The warm reception is absolutely non-negotiable, we need them to be at the very least not hostile towards us, preferably cooperative. As for the unique boon, this seems very promising when going to the Marble Hall and potentially promising if we go home, so I very much want this.

Banes: Most of these strike me as bad ideas, although I'm kind of curious what would happen if we took the unique bane in conjunction with the unique boon (assuming that's allowed). Regardless, I'm going with the North having trouble because that's the one with the least direct impact on us as far as I can tell.

Honorable Mentions: I strongly suspect the Dream and Nightmare are more than just mundane dreams, which is the main reason why I didn't pick the Nightmare Bane. Main reason I didn't take the Dream Boon is that I couldn't find another Bane that I was willing to take in exchange for it.

Oh boy, we have been waiting for this conference.

Interested in seeing the marble hall and characters/ character opinions they have there before trouble truly breaks out everywhere. Also keen on making a good impressions on the kingdoms while developing ourselves apart from their systems.

I'll wait just a bit before putting in my vote. Going back home is the most time sensitive one, as much as I'd love to get accredited. As for the Boons/Banes, since this is the sort of vote where the Hand of God is reaching down to rearrange the world for the reader, this is the rare circumstance where I don't want to vote for whatever maximally benefits us, our goals, and our allies. Making things interesting in ways you want to read is a higher priority here than smoothing our road forward, because we are not voting in character.

Social: Belle since I don't think anyone has anything against taking her on as a retainer. I'd like to get to know her if we do end up taking her on. Sypha just because I like the relationship Ryza and Sypha have as two young ladies trying to do their best in the world of adults.

Learning: I'm thinking of foregoing advancing more down Awakening for now since we've done quite a bit of that and we'll probably have more time to focus on that as we get closer to situations in which it becomes necessary. Meanwhile we haven't started on Runewrighting at all and that's part of our job description. Also if we plan to go home then having a greater understanding of runes might be useful. Lots of cool runes back there after all.

Boons: Our nature being received warmly would be wonderful for Ryza's mental wellbeing as well as add to the foundation for contact with more manakete in the probably far future. A boon unique to Ryza's path appearing is just, like. I don't know if I can participate in a manakete quest and not vote for something like that. Totally misread what this meant but I still want it regardless. I want the pleasant dream boon because ever since we met that shadow mage back in Kelton's hometown I've been interested in seeing if that kind of thing will come up again.

Banes: Dark forces marches isn't exactly great but considering the gathering here it is probably something that can be dealt with. I don't want to vote for the shadow moving beyond our sight since we voted for that last time. Can't let that shadow get too uppity. I think Ryza has been doing well at establishing a support system and a good environment for her so I'm willing to take the nightmare bane. Overall we've been given a lot of interesting boons and I don't want to not interact with them just because the banes might actually be banes.

For now. We really cant put off getting the items from Ryzas home. If someone else gets to them they are lost forever and making new ones are impossible for the scrolls and maybe locked behind deep dive into runewright for the Tablets. And unless we want the trauma that would come with Rysa using the corpses of her own kind to help with spellcasting if we lose the tablets then getting them before they are stolen becomes even more important.

I am pretty sure getting to the hall might/will become more dangerous if we wait but it will still be there and it is a neutral location.

I would prefer a two boon plan so will look in later, any more then that would be excessive on the banes imo.

I think I could be talked into Northern Setback for the Path Forward boon if people want.

Also, I was thinking, Ryza might be able to find her mother's stone when she visits and recover that. If it's still there.

Yeah, I feel like there's a lot of things that could be there that could be intriguing. That's why I designed my plan around a theme of sorts because I felt like it gave SoaringHawk a lot of flexibility to apply the options.

Runewriting, Awakening, Dreams, Unique Boon, and maybe even unexpected allies could all play into it. Ryza could find notes/books on runewriting from her father, or scrolls on Awakening stored there, or the unique boon. Maybe being in her old home and "closer" to a manakete area could like... allow the First Mother to commune with her in her dreams if that's a thing like it is in some FE settings.

Basically I thought it could flow well from a writing standpoint.

I would take the Northern Setback for the Path Forward boon personally, would probably even fit well considering where we are going. But I am not the only one voting for your plan.

Of the Banes it is the one that seems to be the most distant to us atm. Tho, worst case scenario it is the option where the Northen Kingdoms version of the plot we just stopped succeeds.

[X] Plan Safeguard the Manakete Legacy

While I don't know which path would be best, I agree that we should clean house and make sure that the most important items belonging to us and our people are kept safe and away from prying hands who would either take them and use them for their own purpose or destroy them.

While not going immediately to the Marble Hall would make the trip more dangerous in the future (and also wasting very good opportunities to advance Ryza's goals), I prefer to go with this plan.

Also, hiring both is a no brainer for me.

- [] Dark Shroud: An enhancer for the Black tribe's shadow magic. You were never trained in this, but with this you could probably use lesser shadow magic.
Mm. So, looking at these ...
* On Humans is, if not critical, then still incredibly important to the goal of rehabilitating manaketes in human eyes and strengthening the Revisionist cause. The title does strongly indicate that some manaketes were not happy about humans, but the fact that it's a debate and not a dunk is important information, especially if it can explain why some dragons might want to wipe out humans entirely. That way they can anticipate and possibly refute arguments against them.

* A Traveler's Guide is possibly almost as important, if not actually moreso than On Humans (at least, if I'm guessing the title's meaning correctly). While possibly written for manaketes, and therefore containing information about potential threats and places of interest to a traveler in a new locale, the title makes it sound like it could also be directed at non-manaketes traveling in manakete lands. If the latter is correct, then it would be an example of manakete writing directed at 'lesser' species, and would not only have a particular tone, but also explain how manaketes expected to be treated. Even if it's the former, and written for a manakete traveler, it might have something about how to deal with lesser species in a different tribe's territory.

* A Mother's Wisdom, alongside being a cultural artifact for Revisionists to crow over, likely has some things in it about how to treat lesser species. Given what Ryza knows about the Mother, it is quite unlikely to include things like 'eat all princesses' or 'commit genocide,' and therefore would be more evidence that manaketes trying to slaughter humans would have been a complete shift from their original perspective, and so aid in the Revisionist work.

* Beast, Bird and Monster likely has many stories about spiders. This can only be a good thing. (It might also have information on things that could benefit humans, like using part X from monster Y to enhance magic C. Not necessarily good things to know, but if it reduces dependency on manakete essence ....)

* From Dragon to Manakete probably has the least objective value to people who aren't Ryza, although it might include things like locations of original settlements that might have escaped destruction. Still valuable as a historical document, but of less direct use in furthering Ryza's goals.

* Tablets potentially serve multiple functions. Firstly and obviously, Ryza can use them to enhance her own spellcasting; relatedly, humans who can use magic might be able to make use of them as well, and even if they're not as effective with them, it would show that manakete essence is not necessary to spellcasting. Learning new magic through them could enhance Ryza's standing among mages, at least if they're new magic to humans; this will be enhanced if Ryza can work with someone to create human-accessible versions. And while rune-writing would be necessary to begin replicating tablets (for human use), allowing humans to study them would probably not hurt even if they can't learn anything new from them. After all, right now Ryza can only really make use of two of the tablets, and therefore could allow a friendly mage to study and possibly use one.

Yeah, I'm thinking someone went to great lengths to disappear the Manakete's legacy, and I sincerely doubt they've stopped since--gotten a bit more sloppy, maybe, given the existence of the Revisionist movement, but not stopped. There's a lot of important stuff still hiding there that'll probably get disappeared when a mastermind rolls in willing to put their back into a full sweep.

And the last thing we want to do is let the Shadow get another move, given how their last move was "Assassinate a moderate Emperor in the center of his power"

On the other hand, until we're an accredited Mage, we have no genuine power in our own right aside from force of arms. So I'm conflicted. And getting to the Ivory Hall's going to be a lot harder when a state of open war breaks out.

Let me think on this for a bit.
