Can't it just eat Akane instead?
I mean, it was a Seal Creation Failure that messed with Hazou's mind, specifically. It could be a lot worse.

He could've lost FiF, lost some of his mental repository of Seal Creation information. Or his comprehension of how to Summon. He could've had enforced Red/Blue morality, he could've been made to monofocus on killin' Kei, he could've been made to lose his love for Akane and Ino a la the side effects of Mari's Personal Jutsu. He could lose his bitter emotions about the Sunset Racer, and the responsibility he feels about the Condor Colonization.

The fact that Hazou may have lost an amount of XP is mildly unpleasant, but the Test of the Forbidden Letter itself is fun, and we can always recoup what was lost. There are worse sealing fractures that could've happened, and XP loss is temporary, anyway.

Yo can someone smarter than me break down if we should add any of these to our build plan
Hazou is Earth Element. We'd have to factor in the purchase of a whole new Element. My suspicion is that it would fuck with our already-wonky builds by a Chunky Amount.

Finally looked at these
Fire Element: Sundance
(Effect) Attacks for a Standard seems pretty powerful, with prep to boost them up seems insane. Akane with this jutsu at 40 or 50 and SC will make dozens of attacks. It's expensive, but not that expensive. That it has no attack bonuses helps somewhat. Probably not OP but maybe?

Also, Cantelope wants to know why we have sun element

Fire Element: Burning Vortex
Does this still have a bonus to attack distance if Akane uses Taijutsu instead of the jutsu itself?

Fire Element: Flame Wall
Seems solid (no pun intended)

Earth Element: Bleeding River Impalement
This is awesome. I would love to see Hazou invest in this

Wind Element: Vacuum Energy Ball
Does this say that wind armor blocks this entirely, or doesn't block it at all? What is "fully effective?" Also, seems like a nice option to have to oppose Kei's Summons if they become hostile....

Water Element: Surging Seas
Movement and AOE attack. Very nice.

Also, is there supposed to be one for the fifth Element? Can't recall.

[x] Action Plan: Like Reasonable Adults
[X] Action Plan: In Which Hazou Lives Up To His Reputation

(I've bound myself to vote for any plan with nuke precautions, sorry necromancy.)

@eaglejarl

Can the Shadow clone of someone who has a Sundance active, take control of that sundance?

like say Akane!Prime uses Sundance, can Akane!Clone1 then take control of that Sundance?

No. Ninjutsu other than the Shadow Clone Technique treat Prime and the clones all as ordinary separate individuals. If there are exceptions, Hazō is unaware of them.

"Ow!" said Hazō.

What happens when xp sinks under 0? Why a letter and not a phoneme? Afaicr, hazou does not think in this collection of words

Hazō has 267 XP at the moment. He's very unlikely to have his XP end up under 0.

The intent was that this jutsu is most useful on defense when it munchs up Fire jutsu. It *can* be a powerful attack, but it's very situational on offense.

"He has been unable to work on it for the last few days, My Lord. One of his advanced students...Jinno, I think? Yes, Jinno. Lord Kagome is working with him on his first actual research project and they are close to a breakthrough." He looked down at his notes. "It's a...hm. A 'third-chord thermal activation chronostatic bilateral Tanaka projection'." He frowned and shook his head before dropping the paper on his lap and looking expectantly at Hazō.

"It's a low-powered explosive activated by heat and it goes off three seconds after being triggered, meaning it doesn't have the adjustable trigger that most seals do. A good first research project." He pursed his lips in thought. "If Kagome-sensei is already letting Jinno do original research the guy must be seriously talented."
Well then. It seems we've already seen Jinno's "seals civilians can use" plan, and it started with how to make civilian suicide-bombers. The "if we weaponise civilians ninja wars will become a lot deadlier for them" line is way, way behind us.

On the one hand, Sundance seems really solid to prep before combat, especially in daytime. On the other hand, fireballs in orbit aren't subtle, so rarely be able to fully prep these. Still, can shut down a fire Ninjutsu specialist pretty well with these. And at least they don't have maintenance costs. I'd say horde-bustin' moderately weaker enemies or takedowns on fire specialists would have really worthwhile purpose. Plus, mid-distance attack. Too bad it uses up a full action to attack, but if you delay until a couple are ready, could be worth it. Eh. I'd at least consider it for Akane.

Ohh. Can we make a seal that drains the 1 CP out of a civilian holdin' it and uses it to misinfuse some seal blank? Now that is a real civilian suicide bomber! Crucially, it 1) doesn't risk valuable ninja, as they don't have to be anywhere nearby, and 2) the chakra that causes the Sealin' failure is not the sealmaster's, meanin' the failure is unlikely to strike them! There are basically no way it can turn out poorly! (Except if it chains alon' the causal path, I suppose, but that seems very rare, and like it'd only happen with the very esoteric seal blanks.)

On that note, we could probably create a privacy seal that conceals the usage on the Sundance Jutsu, allowing for some nasty ambushes with maxed out Sundance.

Any player post we see that has been edited will be assumed to have had Gs removed. It will count as -10 XP on top of the -1 for every G that still remains. We'll make an exception for 'infrastructure' posts such as SC XP, sealing XP, and other things that would reasonably have been edited for non-G-related purposes.

If we believe that a post has been deleted, that will also be -10 XP.
You take my letters, and I shall chuckle.
No seal can hurt so, to make me die.
But my will inside, it starts to buckle.
You take my edits, and then I cry.

It's worth it to remember that when you express frustration at someone, it's unlikely that either of you feels positive about the experience and it's almost certain that they haven't learned much of value.

Be kind to each other. We're all here to have a nice time and enjoy a shared hobby. Mistakes will be made: point them out politely and recommend ways to avoid them in the future.

Seems like it would benefit us to remember that this was a failure: there will be some consequence. We can't skip it entirely. And that's fine. We can improve our penmanship so it's less likely to happen as we continue in the quest.

Obviously, I also feel that everyone should exercise caution but that point has been made sufficiently that I see no need to add my copper to the sum.

[X] Action Plan: In Which Hazou Lives Up To His Reputation
  • Mari sanity check all:
  • Precautions for Akane's Elemental Mastery practice:
    • We have chosen to focus on this because we think the jutsu may have weird behaviour when pushed to the extreme.
    • 'Extreme' and 'weird behaviour' are not nice words in sealmaster speech.
    • Furthermore, it's important that nobody else learns what we discover.
    • Therefore, we should only practise Elemental Mastery well outside of Leaf, with as much safety as possible. Think of it like TH tests without the need to hack the jutsu first.
    • Whenever Akane pushes the limits of the jutsu, it should be cast by a Shadow Clone proxy with Prime over a mile away.
    • We're aware that this is paranoid, but paranoia pays off sooner or later.
  • The concerns of the KEI:
    • We know that the law affords clan heads unilateral control over their clan, and thus no punishment can be levied by the Tower, we can still create a civil contract that punishes foul play.
      • When Hazou requests a ticket for a specific KEI ninja, he cannot use the ticket on anyone else.
      • A KEI ninja adopted into Hazou's clan will never be ordered to share their KEI jutsu with others in the clan.
        • This can be waived on a jutsu-by-jutsu basis based on future deals made with KEI leadership.
      • If a KEI jutsu somehow ends up as purely in Hazou's clan, we will teach it back to the KEI.
      • Very expensive penalties for breach of contract.
    • With this, it should be possible to permit adoptions without fear of jutsu theft. Are these terms acceptable?
  • Start research on one of the more basic Isan/Sarubetsu seals. Try to avoid FP expenses.
I must sleep now, so no updates for a little while. I expanded the KEI section because I think it is important for the deal to be an enforceable contract with penalties for breaches, as much as is possible under the circumstances. The KEI cannot stop Hazou if he chooses to adopt whoever he pleases with the ticket, but if he does so it will be in breach of a contract intended to be as punitive as possible: thus the KEI will be afforded some measure of security from the principle of self-interest. Naturally, for other clauses the question becomes 'do they catch Hazou in breach of contract?' which erodes its ability to create trust, but I cannot think of a way to be more transparent in a way that Counterfactual Evil Hazou could not evade.

But more importantly, this plan provides precautions for Elemental Mastery tests, and rationale to justify them, which should allow for people to safely vote for the Elemental Mastery XP-expense plan. If you feel the precautions or rationale are insufficient, let me know and I'll try my best to improve the plan when I wake up.

I also avoid a necromancy timeskip here because, as much as I love necromancy, we need FP to do research and our source of FP (at least, when we have so few of them) is more updates. This plan sources us another FP in relatively short order while we finally reach a major milestone in our destructive ambitions. This is, in my opinion, necromancy-optimal.

EDIT: I have added some low-level seal research that shouldn't need any FP to complete.
Plan edited: I have added a quick seal research section that should keep us busy without any FP costs. The rest of the plan is unaltered.

Hazou v Out: Battle for a Soul's Potential
This is how this situation obtained to Hazō's face buried in (cold!) mud, for the umpteenth time. And an all-smiles Noburi.

Hey wait a minute... Somethi- some element just came to my mind.

"Epic Seal of Awesomeness With A Really Awesome Name That You Have To Say All Of Every Time Or It Won't Work And Also I'll Punch You In The Face, This Means You, Hazō". The name... the name dances between risks, avoids dan- jeopardy of Hazō's memories and very experience, that is, the core of his existence...
Truly, Jiraiya was a visionary. Who would have predicted that he'd so effortlessly avoid the Words Of Power And Madness? We should have been smarter, we'd have realised that seal names themselves have limits, hold quiddity! He was so stro- wise and knowle- learned...

Faflec woke up, eyes still blurry after a frankly too short ni- a frankly too short rest. The day was yo- it was still early, and it was time to check on what happened in his absence.
Of course, munchkinry and pedantism may have been the operative words of the Quest, but some well-hidden mistakes could still have slipped past even the most warded of minds and the most astute of eyes, as the very act of communication reacts poorly to bridles and obstacles.
Woe was he for his daytime-delayed discovery, that the danksome depths of terrible treachery had been severely sounded and wretchedly reached, villainy most vile and perfidy pernicious amix in a dastardly display of XP expiration.
That was it.
The land of words may well have turned to a minefield... but a battlefield it would now become.
Armed with red letters and capslocked words, he turned to his craft.
And his warcry resounded above the land.
"AAAIIIIIEEEEEEE WE'RE ALL [about to] DIIIEEEEEE".

Also, he's very disappointed in you.
What happens when xp sinks under 0?

Why a letter and not a phoneme?
As a lin- (shit how do I say this) word-worker woman, phonemes are terrible especially in... US/UK/Australia/(and others) speech. If the... writo-phonemics of this speech were better, that may have been possible. As is, that would represent lots of extra work for little effect. Would you translate the entire comment section to International Phonetics Alphabet? Would you be certain of the result's accuracy? Fluffwise, it's the same, but crunch-side, it's a lot worse for the crunchers.
Afaicr, hazou does not think in this collection of words
Well who knows what happens in an EK-Class Seal Failure Event? Maybe it materialises words. Maybe it makes fun letter-avoidance events happen on Plethoretic Impetus forums. Maybe it reminds you to wash your inkbrush properly so the bristles don't stick and apply sufficient pressure in the deosil part of the third Rafu selector, HAZŌ.
Hazō has 267 XP at the moment. He's very unlikely to have his XP end up under 0.
Anazō Kuroskywalker: you underestimate my power. *somersaults and loses both feet and an arm and falls into the lava*
"Argh!" Hazō cried, his head in his hands.
"Damn it!" the hands cried, their Hazō in its head.

The concerns of the KEI:
  • We know that the law affords clan heads unilateral control over their clan, and thus no punishment can be levied by the Tower, we can still create a civil contract that punishes foul play.

Possible/alternative avenue to pursue on the matter (pardon the means of description): Would it be appropriate for us to offer to buy or trade for jutsu the prospective adopted ninja know from the KEI as a separate or even prerequisite deal to adoption? This would allow us to bypass the "KEI doesn't want to lose certain ninjutsu" issue, and further help us on future deals as the prerequisite jutsu have already been accounted for?
