For my part, I think this Sealin' failure is bleedin' hilarious. More metafictional failures please!
It DOES include unicode or etc characters that look like the seventh letter but are not. "Chi-instead-of-X" is for tricking machines, not people.
For maximum evil, you could've made it so that people can't refer to the letter that fell Out usin' the same euphemism twice, or replacin' it with the same symbol twice. That's how entities on the path that listens for its names do it, and it's super fun!

With our new pile of XP we can buy EM 40 which is nuke level

[X] XP to Spend Akane: My partner is a WMD
Elemental Mastery 40 (610 XP)
Save 6xp
A note of clarification: EM 40 is on the cusp of nuke-tier, either a nuke or not a nuke based on the ambient climate conditions. At level 40 exactly, we nuke if it's a cold day, approximately 'beneath 10 C' cold. On a warmer day the jutsu just makes the air really cold.

Fortunately (unfortunately?) the timeline says we're in mid-September (after the time that passed in the last update, at least) so sufficiently-cold ambient temperatures are within the realm of possibility. If we try to test this now, we may or may not achieve nuke. It may nuke one day and not the other, at least until we reach winter and every day is a cold day.

We will need to raise the jutsu's level to 45-49 if we want it to nuke on any day of the year, but this is the correct direction to move in.

As always, the scariest part of the nuke tests is whether or not we can keep the nuke secret (and, more importantly, not-lethal-to-Leaf's-innocent-civilians) on our first test, before we properly know what the jutsu is capable of. We'll want to contrive some sort of excuse to do our EM tests sufficiently outside of Leaf, but I think we can pull that off. It's an invisible jutsu that lasts for hours and is deadly to anyone who stumbles into its AoE, so as we push it past its limits it behooves us to ensure nobody is so close that they may accidentally stumble into it. That's my loose plan, at least.

We can probably pass one nuke off as a failed seal (it's not like anyone came after us for the cube tornado jutsu from the second SIN-tests, after all), but ideally nobody even notices that it happened at all.

After a few minutes more, he pushed the stone back into the wall he'd scooped it out of and flattened it out, leaving one more distortion in the blank granite expanse behind his desk. He knew he wouldn't make any breakthroughs today, but his ability to sense and control stone with the technique improved with every day of focused practice, and he could tell he was getting close. Just a few days more…

ES 40 could be what we need to reach the shiny

I would observe, however, that in the spirit of this you do not delete any future mistakes.
That is fair, sorry, I reacted under panic prompted by the assumption that I made players cross and/or sad. To learn belatedly that I acted in a deleterious way, which was arbitrarily decided by rules unknown to me and harmed relations, is a serious fear of mine. This is par for the course for, and obviously part of the, internet quest experience to sometimes discover information belatedly or be mistaken, but the... enthusiastic reaction sent me into mistake-reparation mode, not "cut your losses, it's how it works, let's think about this situation rationally" mode. Not that I can blame such a reaction, it's only natural. I will strive to deal with this more fairly if such an error should occur once more.

All the <3. Your post is what made us realize that we should wait a bit to ensure that everyone had seen the relevant information. Start time is now pushed out to 7pm Eastern to ensure no one is hurt like that.

...Do we believe Earthshaping 40 is the cutoff for 3D Sealing? There's been some discussion on the topic but I wanted to ask because if we wanted to we could obtain level 40 RIGHT NOW after SC XP is factored in.

All we would have to do is something like...

Earth Release: Pangolin Earth Armor 20 [104.5 XP]
Calligraphy 30 [30 XP]
Earth Release: Earthshaping 40 [79 XP]

EDIT: I forgot PEA was level 1 right now, my mistake. Still slightly over 210 XP, which is less than what we have RN.

We need these skills anyway and I'd be willin- to vote for this

ES 40 could be what we need to reach the shiny

From this, I'll propose:

[] XP to Spend Hazou: Shiny + Shiny + Penmanship +???
Kei's Summons Earth Armor 20 (105 XP)
Penmanship(That skill, you know what) 30 (30 XP)
3D Seal printer (Yes, that jutsu with the shiny you want us to level, and with you i mean EJ) 40 (79 XP)
Total -214 XP

We obtained at least ( 99 + 150) XP i'm reasonably sure we can do it. With this we will unlock Calli Penmanship, reach ES shiny and have our unbreakable armor jutsu at a reasonable level.
To be improved once we know how much Seal notes XP we have read.

We'll likely need to reach level 50 and beyond anyways, in order to reach the level we need to fix a mountain-sized seal mid-failure, but I do want to see what 40 is like ASAP.

(I will caution, however, that we may want to refer to the skills we wish to train by different, more sanitized names. I propose "Earth Release: PEA", "The inkbrush skill", and "Earth Release: ES". I know that the restrictions aren't in effect yet but imo it's worth it to stick to best practices even before then.)

The update implies very much that Hazo is close to a new revelation with ES. I say we see what 40 does.

But how much will this delay S rank sealin'? Also, it looks like in addition to sealin', we need to up our handwritin' skills. Our result was unlucky, but not that unlucky.

i'll be honest, i'm proud of the third name.:V

EDIT: Also, penmanship is not my creation, but Madscientist's

Our result was reckless, more than unlucky. Luck can be assessed, evaluated, worked around. We went into this research cycle with only two FP and quickly used them up on the first research roll, and then we pressed on forwards to do the second roll anyways.

Even just one FP available for rerolls reduces the odds of a -9 or worse to 3.43% (relative to the baseline of 18.5%) and two rerolls keeps the risks as low as 0.64%. We should not have attempted the second roll without more FP, no two ways about it. We should pay close attention to our FP reserves when we vote in research plans from now on.

[X] Train Hazou : Improve both scribe skills
-[X] Earth Release: PEA 20 (104.5 XP)
-[X] Inkbrush skill 30 (30 XP)
-[X] Earth Release: 3D Seal writer 40 (79 XP)
-[X] Seal skill 46 (356 Notes XP)

All these people who say they like it, but don't make a vote. Wham, done, vote for it if you like it.

Akane dies, Leaf in ruins, war restarts, quest ends, Hazō loses 2 XP consecutively.

Don't do this. I have seen zero reason to believe people have prepared even 1% as much as would be required for this to be a reasonable idea. As is, she will instantly die the moment she uses it to make a place colder, with all in her vicinity as collateral.

[X] XP to Spend Akane: None
