Mari veto is funny to me because I keep viewing the QMs as an entity not unlike a cliché dungeon master in one of your dungeon and dragon fictions gleefully thinking "hehe, this is going to spark SUCH drama and advance the story" and then a player asks "what about the hypercompetent NPC on our side, do they foresee any drama?" and then the DM sighs and reveals it all.

[x] Action Plan: Grab Loot, Go Home

Alive, the crystal has unique capabilities. Dead, it only probably has them. I'd prefer to trade with it or control it. Even if the only way to control it is to kite aggro.

[x] Action Plan: Grab Loot, Go Home

I think we should not try to kill the crystal thing whose real strength we don't really know, that made Hazou and Kei look like genin and that could potentially wipe our entire party if we push our luck

The whole team will be safely on top of a skytower riding the whole thing out in relative comfort.

I understand the objections on moral grounds no matter how misguided I personally think they are. But there's practically no safety concern.

Do Summoned creatures have a range limit from their caster? I ask because if their limit is beyond surface-to-crystal core, Shadow Clones alone are not going to cut it, especially since Yuno doesn't have Shadow Clone.

added getting info and protecting villages from cave
[x] Action Plan: Grab Loot, Go Home, Protect Villagers
  • ask village witch about herbs/plants from cave
  • ask dog summon of the mind effect
  • ask yuno/akane more details of how they managed to escape
  • stay a couple days to make sure cave doesn't attack villagers
  • warn villages you entered cave and it got angry, in case that affects when they enter it

Thank you! Nobody seems to have called me out yet on the shameless Portal reference
The crystal is GLaDOS? OrochimaruxGLaDOS. They went on a honeymoon to Honey. Ignore the crystal being landlocked in Honey.

Attempting Communication with Earthshaping.
Forgive the intrusion. We come in peace. We mean no harm.
Despite Your Violent Behavior, The Only Thing You've Managed To Break So Far Is My Heart.

You know what my days used to be like? I just tested. Nobody murdered me. Or put me in a potato. Or fed me to birds. I had a pretty good life.
Test putting the crystal shard we gathered in a potato.
We're a lot alike, you and I. You tested me. I tested you. You killed me. I--oh, no, wait. I guess I HAVEN'T killed you yet. Well. Food for thought.
Oh, it's you. It's been a long time. How have you been? I've been really busy being dead. You know, after you murdered me?
Sorry about the mess. I've really let the place go since you killed me. By the way, thanks for that.
Lightheaded from laughter. These quotes are a goldmine.

If ES is not helpful for communication here, we can try some more basic things to see where this thing is at as far as sapience.

[X] Action Plan: Second Contact
Word Count: 288
  • Investigate if the crystal entity has sapience and determine if it's dangerous to the locals.
  • Deliberate with team if risking contact with the entity will further poison relations and if Shika, the Nara, and Hokage should be contacted for next steps.
  • If given the go-ahead.
    • A shadow clone (Kei or Akane) and Canain will venture back into the cave system (closest areas with mind-controlled chakra beasts) with lots of meat to the crystal as some compensation for its reduced defenses (slaughtered chakra beast minions.) and with puzzles to test the sapience of the entity.
    • Puzzles can consist of simple shape-sorting toys, building blocks, and a golem and crystal figurines as gifts (and a test for signs of self-recognition).
    • Optimize with Kei and Canain. Plant and Crystal release may come in handy. Maybe the crystal will get curious over their similarities?
    • Prepare pictographs in the event that the entity is deemed sapient.
    • The key here is to avoid confrontation while also testing how far they can approach the chakra beasts and crystal without violence. Essentially, can Canain play with it?
      • Back off if the entity or its chakra beasts seem agitated.
      • Make use of the controlled chakra beasts as sufficient intermediaries for the entity. Examine their behavior.
      • Prepare exfiltration and safety measures as before.
      • Seal the cave entrance in worst-case scenario of crystal gearing up to unleash its wrath on the locals.
        • Prepare any defenses you can for locals and warn them.
  • If team or Shika advises not to contact crystal entity, head back to Leaf.
  • Touch base with Noburi and get an update as to how things have been in Leaf since the team left.

We send Panashe a long distance away from the party when tracking down the People of the Lakes. It should be fine, only a couple km

Don't think so, they only have a time limit. I once thought you still had to touch your summon to refresh the time so you were constrained by that but I've since been told that isn't the case either
