The Chaldea Security Organization. A joint operation between the United Nations and the Clocktower Mage's Association. Using a mixture of powerful magecraft and cutting edge technology, Chaldea is meant to safeguard humanity itself from destruction.
Of course, Chaldea is a top-secret project. Only a select few know of its existence and even fewer know the specifics of how it fulfills its mandate. In fact, barely a couple of its own employees know the full details on what Chaldea will be doing going forward.
You, unfortunately, are in the former position. A last minute hire to Chaldea, you were informed of your selection, blindfolded and bundled onto a plane for a multi-hour flight to who knows where. When you land, you're shoved out into the blistering cold, guided a short way across snowy ground and shoved inside a building.
Alone and confused, you remove the blindfold to find yourself in a small room of white metal, advanced doors on either side of you and a small blue tinted screen set into the wall in front of you. The screen lights up and an electronic voice activates.
"Welcome to the Chaldea Security Organization. Please Identify."
----
You are the 48th Master Candidate of Chaldea and soon you will embark on a grand journey to save the world. However, before you were chosen by fate for this role, you had a life of your own. Let's find out who you are.
Name: Straightforward, just use whatever name you like.
Gender: Male, Female, Nonbinary. Yes, you too can be like Astolfo and D'Eon if you like.
History: You have three choices available to you: Noble Mage, Magic User, Mundane Civilian.
As a Noble Mage, you are the heir(ess) to a line of Clocktower mages. Your family isn't particularly famous, but you do have a few generations behind you so you aren't completely without status either. You will start with three set Skills (Basic Magecraft, Magic Crest, To Walk With Death) and can select two magecraft related Skills which will also determine exactly what your Magic Crest does. However, you start with one set Flaw (Noble's Arrogance), must pick three more Flaws, and you cannot select mundane skills at all.
As a Magic User, you have just discovered your magecraft recently. Maybe you live on the edges of Clocktower society, maybe your family has a minor magecraft tradition but mostly keeps to themselves, maybe you just happened to luck into activating your circuits one day. You start with one set Skill (Basic Magecraft) and may select one magecraft skill and two mundane skills. However, you must pick two flaws.
As a Mundane Civilian, you're a completely normal high school student, who happened to participate in a blood drive one day and suddenly you're getting hired by the freaking UN. You have no idea what the hells going on but maybe that's a good thing? You start with one set Skill (100% Master Potential) and must select three mundane Skills. However, you start with one set Flaw (Ignorant of Magic) which starts at D-Rank.
Please be sure to only include the number of flaws and skills included in your background. You do not need to include set Skills and Flaws such as Basic Magecraft in your vote. So there are a lot of really good Fate Grand Order quests out there, which really nail the fantasy of getting to hang out with so many cool, crazy characters and then do awesome shit with them as you charge into battle along side them. I'm not saying this quest is going to be the next big thing (honestly my work ethic means it probably won't last that long) but they did inspire me to try out my own. Hopefully we get the ball rolling on something good here. Please enjoy and don't forget to be kind to one another.
Rolling Dice: All rolls in this game are contested rolls: you versus someone or something else. When trying to do something and you face resistance, you roll 1d100, add any Skills or Flaws you may have that are relevant and your opponent does the same. If you roll higher than them, you win and if they roll higher, you fail. If your roll is greater than your opponent's by 50 or greater, that is a critical success and can lead to either gaining new Skills or the improvement of old ones. Inversely, if your roll is lower than your opponent's by 50 or greater, that is a critical failure and can lead to gaining new Flaws or the worsening of old ones.
Skills and Flaws: Skills and Flaws follow the usual Fate ranking system of letter scores leading up to EX rank. However, unlike Servant Skills and stats, yours will start at F-Rank, representing what a human could normally achieve (barring the exception of the Mundane Civilian's Ignorant of Magic Flaw.) E-Rank and above are for when you start to push past human potential and become a hero in your own right. Starting at F-Rank, Skills grant a +5 bonus to relevant rolls, while Flaws impose a -5 penalty, and each rank increases that bonus or penalty by 5. So an E-rank skill would grant +10 and so on.
Daily Activities: Each day spent outside of a Singularity in Chaldea is divided into three sections: Morning, Afternoon and Evening. You may spend these time slots on activities such as Hangouts or Training. Hangouts are there to build up Bond points with your Servants and other members of Chaldea, as well as maybe unlocking new Skills for you or new activities. Training is there to deliberately enhance the Rank of your Skills. If you have a high enough Bond with a Servant or some other character and they have a relevant skill, you can invite them for training, which increases your chances of success. A vote for your daily activities should look something like this.
Training: As training takes effort and you're not guaranteed to succeed every time you try, each Training activity will involve an opposed roll: you vs the skill you are trying to improve. The Skill's bonus to its resistance roll will depend on what Rank you are attempting to train, with a higher Rank producing a higher bonus, which starts a 0 for learning a new Skill at Rank F and increases by 10 for each Rank past that. On your end, unlike a normal roll, you don't get any bonus from the Skill you are attempting to train despite it technically being relevant to the roll. Instead, your main way of getting bonuses for training rolls is two-fold. First, by inviting another character to train you, you gain a bonus to the roll based on their Rank in the relevant Skill minus your Rank in the Skill you are attempting to train. That mentor bonus is +5 for each difference in Rank. Secondly, each time you fail to advance to the next Rank during training, you get a cumulative plus five bonus. This bonus is lost when you finally pass the training roll and achieve the next Rank.
As an example, say you're attempting to reach Rank C of Musician. First of all, the bonus to the opposing roll is +30 for trying to learn a Rank C skill. You have tried and failed to reach C Rank three times before, so you get a +15 bonus to your roll. Additionally, you have invited Mozart to train you. Mozart's relevant skill would be Protection of the Music God (False) EX, which is 4 Ranks higher than your Musician D, which gets you a +20 bonus. So the resulting roll would look like this
Personal History: A bright, cheerful young lady, her charm, talent and big dreams led her to becoming an amateur idol. Starting off by posting videos of herself singing and dancing online, her big break came when she signed up for an idol recruiting competition. She had activated her magic circuits on her own several years ago and now, desperate to win the competition, she wound up infusing magical energy into her voice, producing such a beautiful sound she left her audience crying tears of joy. Obviously, she won and she was overjoyed to take her first steps into her idol dream.
A few months later, her manager had her meet with someone from the UN. They had a job offer for her, one where they needed her 'unique talents'. Misunderstanding the situation, Sakiko agreed and was instantly bundled up to be sent to Chaldea.
Skills
Basic Magecraft F: The user is able to activate and deactivate their magic circuits at will, as well as cast the four foundational spells: Projection, Alteration, Reinforcement and Structural Analysis.
Bardic Magecraft F: The user is able to enhance their music with magecraft. Or perhaps they're enhancing their magecraft with music. Bardic Magecraft is strongest at manipulation emotions, minds and souls, leading to great utility. However, obviously, the ability to make sound is necessary to cast Bardic Magecraft.
Musician F: The ability to make music with any degree of actual skill. Musical talent must be reinforced by practice and review in order to truly sound good. Music is a great communication tool, able to convey emotions, lessons and stories that are left lacking with mere words. At the greatest heights of performance, music can bring the gods themselves to tears.
Charm F: Adorableness. Cuteness. Attractiveness. How one looks and acts will always influence how others see you and being charming means becoming someone worth pleasing and protecting.
Flaws
Envy F: The desire to have what others have. The envious always see the best in others while seeing only the worst in themselves. Envy can lead to resentment, jealousy and hatred, all while keeping on blind to what one already has.
Simp F: There's someone out there. Someone who's talented, smart and beautiful. Someone can do no wrong and never makes mistakes. Someone who is absolutely, utterly perfect in every way. And if anyone disagrees....
Arcana
VI - The Lovers: The arcana of beauty, love and choices. Associated with twins, pairs and other forms of dualism. Occasionally indicative of the need to sacrifice one thing to gain another.

So made this partially based on a Fate RP character I once made, the general goal is to have a character who is a chimera and bio-magic expert with the eventual goal of modifying our own body to overcome the Sickly trait by becoming essentially a human chimera.

[X]Mundane Civilian. A lead guitarist for more broken up bands than he can count and an occasional session musician, he bums around from city to city trying to find a group of fellow musicians he can actually gel with that won't fall apart in three months. It never works, but having to busk for your breakfast all the time has made him a damn fine player and pretty people savvy. A sweet guy who loves the ladies, but not the brightest bulb in the pack when it comes to anything technical or academic.

The thought of an aspiring idol being hired by the UN for something that isn't performance related is intensely funny to me.
Who doesn't want to rock out with Summer Nobu? Or to help Nero and Liz with their singing and dancing? Maybe we'll even get Mozart's and Salieri's autograph while we're at it!
On second thought, maybe a pass on practice with Liz and Nero, but I do think a focus on being a aspiring performer is a good way to separate us from canon Ritsuka. It gives us some common ground with certain servants, while others won't at all understand our passion. Still, music is one of the few ways to communicate universally, so we're not permanently locking ourselves out from befriending any servants.
Personality wise, I think Envy and Simp work well for the character, even if they are mechanically detrimental to us. They'll serve to further flavor our protagonist. In an environment where she'll be surrounded by people she'll admire, whose talents vastly outstrips hers, the volatile mix of jealousy and admiration she feels would be fertile ground for some potent character drama. She is a artist at the end of the day, and they're nothing if not a competetive bunch who want to be the star of the stage!
Oh my god. I didn't notice before because I was just using a name I previously used for a different quest. But translated, Tetsu Jin means "Iron Man" in english. Haha, that's funny. I got Strong Boy and now Iron Man by complete accident.
Alright, a few people didn't actually follow the guidelines for skills and flaws from your history. But that's fine, I'm adaptable. As long as it generally fits isn't obviously overpowered, I can make any plan work I guess.

Seeing as the original plan isn't gaining much traction, I decided to modify it a bit. Rather than a Mundane Civilian, I changed her to a Magic User so that we aren't adding flaws where we mechanically don't need to do so.
The character concept is still the same, with all the potential drama of the previous plan. It's just now, her singing is also magic, so we'll be of some use in the field. We also won't have to suffer through exposition telling us stuff we already know about the magic system! It should provide for a better reading experience overall.
