Buffy the Vampire Slayer Take Two

Not that it will matter given the current state of the vote, but I'm actually sold on relaxing a bit with our friends. We did almost just suffocate to death.

While I'll be happy with the more disciplined and capable Xander emerging from this and our prior choices, I don't honestly know how Xander would practice self-defence. There's no internet yet, Giles is likely busy, and Xander doesn't know anything about fighting AFAIK.

It's also nice that Marcie didn't end up getting taken and trained as a disposable invisible assassin-in-training in this timeline.

[x] Relax with your friends, joke about teacher romances
Xander has received some basic self defense lessons from Giles. Yes, it did include far more effort than Xander wanted to put into it, but he was really angry about Jesse

Year's End
It's been a wild school year. You made a new friend/crush, your best friend died, you made another new friend, learned all about supernatural weirdness, and generally have had a much weirder time at school than you think most people could claim. If more people at school would actually remember the weird they'd probably vote Sunnydale High World's Weirdest School.

You've been practicing your self defense lessons the past while. You've even gotten some spars in with Buffy when she bothers with training with Giles instead of just heading straight out to slay. It's nice, especially the looks Buffy gives you sometimes. Your training has paid off. You're nowhere near Buffy's league, or even Angel's unfortunately, but if a vampire was nice and slow on you, you could take it out.

School's gonna be over in a week, and the big dance to finish it off is being planned at the Bronze. Cordelia is really taking charge helping to set everything up with her group. With the summer stretching ahead you're hoping to spend a lot of time goofing off with your friends and doing what you can to forget as much of the horrible things that happened over the year as possible. Get ice cream, hang out at the park, read comics.

The real big thing, is that this is your last chance to get a girlfriend before the end of the year. Your last shot. You

[ ]Ask Buffy again. It's been a year, you're good buds now, and you like to think you've proven yourself somewhat to her
[ ]Ask Amy. She's a sweet girl, and she has a sense of humor hidden under her quiet
[ ]Ask Willow. She's your longest friend, and a practice date isn't so bad an idea
[ ]Ask another girl from school. Criteria: must be hot. Anyone you can snag is good, as long as it isn't a friend to make things potentially awkward
[ ]Don't get a date, just go with your friends. You have a group of girls you hang with, why not spend the night dancing with them and make everyone think you're good enough to get multiple?

Buffy is interested in Angel, and I don't like the idea of a "practice" date that might get Willow's hopes up. One of the defining characteristics we're given for Xander in-quest is that he wants a girlfriend so going with friends feels like coping out. I like Amy well enough so I'll vote for her.

Maybe we can save her from being stuck as a Willows pet rat

End Times Round One
You headed over to see Amy before she started lessons with Ms Calendar, and approached her. "Hey Amy, how's it going?" You ran your hand through your hair.

Amy gave you a soft smile. "Good. Joining me for another lesson?"

"Nah, not this time. Actually, was wondering about the dance. And you. Your plans for the dance. You have plans, right? Or you don't. Do you have plans?"

"Going with Buffy and Willow?"

"Cool! That's cool. They're great, really great, wouldn't be friends with them otherwise." Babbling, need to stop babbling. You regretted not practicing this with Willow first. You hadn't thought you'd need to, since you weren't crushing on Amy. But now you were here, and the possibility of an actual date was in your face. You took a deep breath. "Wanna go with me? As a date?"

Amy blinked. "You want to take me as a date to the dance?" You nodded. Amy smiled and fidgeted with her sleeves. "Ok."

"Cool." You grinned. Now for your cool guy exit. Which was mostly just you turning around and walking away. This was all good. Everything fine.

You had thought Willow would be more pleased with your success when you told her about it. She asked why you hadn't asked her instead, which was awkward to explain. Willow was awesome, nobody could ever replace her in your life, but you really didn't see her that way. It was a relief when an earthquake hit and forced everyone to take cover.

Something was up. Something supernatural, by the way Ms Calendar and Giles were acting, but they weren't telling anyone what that was. Really not a great way to deal with things. You had a strong feeling you weren't gonna end up going to that dance with Amy after all. Which really sucked after you'd finally managed to get a date. Maybe you'd be lucky and the big bad would wait for after?

The day of the dance of course started with a group of guys being killed by vampires as a mini party in one of the classes in the school. It was bad enough they actually gave the afternoon off, if not actually cancelling the dance. Death happened far too often in Sunnydale for everything to be put on hold, even if large scale kills in the school itself were uncommon.

Willow had seen it. You had all planned to hang out at her place to try and comfort her and make a plan before meeting up at the library to put the hurt on whatever it was that was messing with your school. Buffy had already been there and left though. And she hadn't been acting like herself either.

You showed up to the library finding Giles had been cold clocked, and Ms Calendar frantically researching. "There's a prophecy that the Master will kill the Slayer tonight," she said. "Buffy went off to confront him anyways."

"We need to find her!" You quickly dug into the armory grabbing crosses and stakes for everyone. "Why do we not have holy water guns? Nevermind, let's just go." Giles groaned slowly waking up on the floor. "Ms C, take care of G-Man for us."

How do you hunt down Buffy?

Hmm, are Xander's self-defense skills high enough to take on a single vampire and ask it for information? Do Amy or Ms. Calendar have any spells that can find Buffy? I'm pretty sure that someone found Buffy early enough to resuscitate her in canon, but I'm not sure how. Did Xander go to Angel?

[X] Ask Amy to help with a tracking/locator spell, alternatively we can go grab Deadboy to help and make himself useful for a change.

Also: Yay! We got a date! And she's cute!

[x] Go grab Deadboy to help and make himself useful for a change.

It worked in canon, and Xander is a little less 'helpless puppy' like than he was.

I'm taking this as we ask Amy first and then try Angel if the spell looks like it doesn't work or will take a while. Do we need Angel for anything other than finding Buffy though?

Apparently the demon had been the kid with the really bad magic act, and he'd gone for Cordelia's brain.

I was originally thinking, "why would that Demon want Cordelia's brain, as it steals the brains of smart people" but then I remembered that Cordy does well in standardized test and the only reason she didn't get into College was because of money troubles.

Although, I do like the fact we including Amy in the Scooby gang, as she was also became a very powerful witch in Canon and keeping her onside will help keep her away for Rack.

Broken Prophecy
You didn't waste time asking if Amy could cast something to help track Buffy down. Amy wasn't entirely certain, but she cast an invocation to Hermes to help find her, and set off following something only she could see. You and Willow ran along behind her, Willow quietly letting out the occasional quiet worry under her breath. You entered through the sewers, which were shockingly not as terrible as you felt they should have been, and ended up lead to an area of rocky caverns you hadn't known existed under Sunnydale at all.

"Buffy!" You ran ahead as you spotted her on the ground in a puddle. No, you couldn't be too late! You refused to be too late. You pulled her out of the puddle she'd fallen into. You checked her heart. Nothing. CPR might still be enough. You immediately started. You had never been so glad that Willow had dragged you and Jessie along to get certified with first aid back in middle school. You thought you heard her bones crack.

Suddenly Buffy took a breath and coughed. "We got her! We got her." You quickly moved to support her along with Willow.

"I'm-I'm alive," Buffy gasped. She took a deep breath.

"Careful, think I broke something," you warned her.

"No. No, I'm ok now." Buffy took another breath. "Maybe even better." She stood up. You looked at Amy and Willow uncertainly. Together you followed after Buffy out of the creepy caves. She seemed to know what she was doing now better than she ever had before. Willow gasped as the school came into view, swarming with vampires. "Oh no. Giles! Ms Calendar!" Willow cried.

You pulled out your stake. "Got anything for us Ames?"

"Ah, I can try an invocation to Athena," Amy offered.

"You do that, I'm finishing this," Buffy said firmly. She started wading through the vampires easily destroying any that tried to stop her. Moments like this really hammered in the difference between your own efforts and Buffy's superhuman abilities. You were just doing all you could to keep the vampires back from Amy and Willow.

Out of nowhere a car came in hitting several of the vampires. Cordelia looked over at you all from inside. "Get in before they start swarming again!" You didn't hesitate to clamber in.

"This is unexpected," you said breathlessly.

"They tried to hit me when I was sitting out where-where me and Kevin used to hang," Cordelia admitted. Right, her boyfriend had been killed by the vampires. "Where do we go?"

"Library," Willow said quickly. "We need to get to Giles and Ms Calendar!"

"Got it." Cordelia revved up and drove through the swarm and partway up the stairs. You all climbed out and raced down to the library. A partial barricade had been set up.

"Giles! Let us in!" you shouted. Ms Calendar and Giles managed to open up the barricade just enough for you all to get in, and then help fortify the library even further.

"Can't believe my library's right over the hellmouth," Giles blustered.

"Just focus on keeping them out," Ms Calendar said as she whacked at a tentacle that was coming up from one of the cracks in the ground.

"Did Buffy-is this everyone?" Giles asked.

"Buffy's fine," Willow said quickly.

"Just on her way to beat the Master," you agreed.

It felt like you held the seige for forever before the skylight above shattered, and Buffy came through it with the Master. He was impaled on the broken wood from the cracks and shattered to dust, leaving behind only bone. There was a whoosh of warm air, and the rest of the vampires around turned to dust as the hellmouth beneath the library closed once more. You all took a deep breath.

"Well. That happened."

"Bit of an understatement there Xander," Willow said.

"We made it though," Amy added. You grinned at her. "Yeah. We did."

"Now what?" Willow asked.

[ ]Go to the dance at the Bronze. Celebrate the win, and forget the horror
[ ]Sleep. That was terrible. You need to just catch some z's
[ ]Sleepover at Amy's with everyone. You need a good cheesy movie and the comfort of your friends
