Tam Lin's Monsterworld

039

A bunch of Seaspores have begun to link up with each other. This link creates large nets of green that grow near the beaches. The link allows Netspores to share nutrients with each other and grow back, even if one of them is eaten. In exchange for this new ability, they've lost the ability to grow to their 'mature' forms.

The Seaspores and Netspores compete for real estate in the ocean, though neither is able to gain a clear advantage. This does end up with Seaspores being washed further away from Monsterworld's central continent, populating the deeper seas.

Necrodeeps continue to compete with Findeeps for resources, and Wingfrogs continue to vye for resources with both Findeep variants.

Slowly migrating to the outer seas have allowed Seaspores to proliferate where Netspores cannot.

[X] [Liana Goblet] Have learned to tap into the magma where the crust is thin. Which allowed them to spread into the deep ocean where light is dim and their wood withstands the high pressure.

I want to populate the Deep sea with vegetation that doesn't require light.

Ah... oceanic floral biodiversity. Maybe one day we can develop coral sporal reefs!

Seeing as I can't vote this turn, I uh... offer you guys my best wishes in solving/not solving the imminent Wingfrog extinction!

oh my god i really like this

darn it... :p

I'm changing my vote. I can propose the deep sea vegatation another time, but I like the wingfrog lineage, because their K-selection focus made the great prey animals for the sea habitat.

How about this for next vote?

[X] Findeeps grow a longer, more robust digestive system in exchange for their legs and ability to ever walk again. Enabling them to both squeeze out more energy and nutrients creating Findeeps that excel in stamina and swim out farther from land and food sources than current aquatic and flying species. Excess food\energy gets stored as an insulating against cold blubber between their skin\scales and the rest of their body allowing for even deeper swimming.

A lamia\mermaid sea creature I am trying to make.
Edit: Added blubber for colder environments. Like deeper water.

With the need to defend against ever bigger threats, Wingfrog queens gain the ability to evolve into an even stronger stage. Although it requires meat from predators to be sacrificed, the queen gains a bloodthirsty form that can take down even a Krowtor (With help from drones). The queen loses her sight, but gains a great ability to communicate with pheromones. The new Frogmanders are able to use the same space-distorting ability that Wingfrog queens apply to their birthing chambers and can stretch their pudgy tails up to three times their normal body length.

Frogmanders are able to proliferate because of this. However, the change into an adult Frogmander is permanent, and requires constant influx of meat. While the Frogmanders can hunt the dangerous Megators and Alpha Packslashers, they'll typically target the relatively defenseless Farmsnots, Findeeps and Necrodeeps instead.

Interestingly, they don't seem to be interested in supping on Aerokrebs or Smalldrones as they are too small to sate the Frogmander Empress's hunger for meat.

To compound their new problems with the Frogmanders, Aerokreb populations have been increasing, putting Farmsnots and Farmbrains in danger of extinction. They will be extinct in 7 and 5 turns respectively.

Krowtors are increasing in population as well and they've started putting pressure on the Frogmanders and Smalldrones already, though not to the point that they'll go extinct.

However, without the Contract magic that they've relied on so long, Krowgards will go extinct in 2 turns, as they are simply too big for Smalldrones to contract.

For the plant kingdom, it seems that Seameats are now having the problem of finding living beings to parasitize as the immune systems of all living races are currently too complex for them to infect. Seameats will go extinct in 1 turn.

Greater Fin Rokrebs who have gone feral are overhunting Fin Rokrebs to extinction. Fin Rokrebs will go extinct in 7 turns.

[X] [Meatling] Evolve into leafless plant with thorns and bulky stem. At some point stem became swollen, hard and then plant starts walking. Plant uses accumulated air magic to navigate via echolocation.

I still want to make kamikadze-plant. Maybe next time will try harpoon thrower bamboo or invisible glass grass or something else...
Edit: Ok, maybe in two turns. But walking plants are good for mobility and search of better places for life.

Many pointed bullet-like seeds scatter in all directions and deepen into the flesh of the beings, when bang occur.

Creeper plant is a good idea, but maybe do those adaptations one at a time

Just to be clear the Frogmanders last stage is non-reproductive?

Anyway, maybe it is becoming time for early plant squid.

[X] [Seameat] have evolved to take advantage of dead Fin-rokreb shells in order to withstand the high pressure. While not immediately harmful they proliferate mostly by grabbing onto scavengers with their tentacle like roots and not letting go as they hibernate until their victim has died of any other cause.

Yup. Only the Queens can reproduce. Empresses cannot

That sounds like a good excuse for the queens to interbreed with farmsnots in order to acquire nosemilk.

EDIT: I should probably explain this thought jump better. The Empress should require a reason to stay with their queen(s). Right now this is probably because they their are grandmothers, but I would like a deeper dependence between them and their queens.

[X] [Domesticated Digslasher] In response to the rise in predators and general threats around them the farmbrain's have started selectively breed Domesticated Digslashers for the quality of their blades. This gives rise to a new sub-species of Digslasher with longer, sharper blades. They tend to be smaller and shorter-lived due to the inbreeding.

[X] The basic Digslasher, desperate to figure how to live, and looking as the Farmbrains copied contract magic, start to copy both halves of that equation(the intelligence of farmbrains, and the contract magic)

Wait, since the Farmsnot's snot gland relies on apoptosis brought on by seameat infection, what happens once Seameats go extinct?

The implications would be catastrophic.

[X] [Seameats] Certain Seameats form a symbiotic relationship with the Farmsnots. Instead of trying to completely consume the host's flesh in order to grow, the new species leeches nutrients from the host's digestive tract.

I think that they will be able to substitute the Seameats in their diets for Hornmeat.

I don't really sea a method for this creature to get food, How about this?

[] [Hornmeat] have evolved seeds with retractable movable thorns that allow it to roll and climb in any direction it wants. Using echolocation to find moving objects. Once it gets close to a moving object it will spear through it's skin and burrow it's roots the flesh of the often still living creature as it blooms into it's adult form.

EDIT: You know what, I changed my mind.

First I wanted to create some deep sea vegetables to facilitate them, but now I can see these working if they were migrate to and from the areas where food is available to areas where food and hopefully predators are scarse.
