Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Feeling the mystery option here, seeing who seeks LQ out. It is rare for LQ to be in a situation like this where she is the clear center of the event. So it will be both interesting and telling.

[ ] You are in the rare position of being the center of this whole gathering, being the sellers of this auctions lots, perhaps it is better to only lightly mingle and instead see who comes to you. It may be more revealing than making advances yourself
Oh oh oh! Let's see stuff people might offer us - we might even get a boat!

I feel like this should all be capitalized?
In this pairing, she was the more expert at social business.
...Terrifying.

Mystery option sounds fun. It hasn't failed us yet!

There are quite a few dangerous places in the land Lady Cai has claimed?"
Don't think you need a question mark there.

"Why would you ask me about such things?" Xia Lin asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Because you won't go into a battlefield without reconnaissance," Ling Qi said.

Xia Lin wrinkled her nose irritably. "This is not my favored terrain."

"I'm sure you didn't let that stop you."
This whole conversation feels like a talk Ling Qi and Cai could have had in their first year.
It really shows how much LQ has grown into her position at her lady's side.
You love to see it!

[X] Your eyes in the city itself are still woefully undeveloped, find your new 'friend' among the Court clans to have a conversation and perhaps receive a few more introductions. It can't hurt to build up an important contact more.

Since their likely another round of socializing choices shoring up captial support will be helpful.

I'd go this way only because we're in the rare position. Otherwise I'd go looking for our contact to build and network.

People will come to us, to try and schmooze us. It's the mystery box option. Our new contact might even show up. Probably would IRL, but probably not in a quest. But this gives us a chance to maybe get another new contact. Hopefully a Luo or whoever is the GF delegation.

I'm somewhat partial to the idea of allowing others to come to us. We have gained power and influence, so allowing others to come to us is a good way of figuring out how well positioned we currently are.

This is also not the most important choice we are going to make for a while, so mistakes or not fully optimal choice making is fine imo.

Hmmm...

I'm kind of leaning towards either the court contact or just seeing who's interested in us.

Honestly not really vibing with Luo, and I feel like GF stuff would be a distraction. And we already have GF friends if we want to hear about them anyway.

It's difficult because on the one hand we shouldn't rely just on being the "weilu" connection and letting that pidgeonhole us but on the other that's uh our primary responsibility as part of Renxiang's entourage and way to build bridges.

A part of me wonders if it's Lan Lan's sister since she is from GF and connected to the Luo too.

I'd go with 1 or 3, but 3 could backfire on us if nobody approaches us.
I think that is unlikely as we are the center of this event and it wouldn't really work in a story sense, but I am not a huge fan of number three because it is passive. I would like to be active.

Ling Qi for a long time has been largely passive in her social networking and I think this would be a prime time to start being more active.

This or the 3rd, but i think actively making connection will be seen better by the nobles. I feel like going with the 3rd option would be seen as high handed and arrogant.

Option 3 is certainly sending a message, but it feels appropriate in this context. Politically, it gives those that have recently come to consider working with us as being a good idea the chance to make themselves known. So in a way, it gives us more new information than the other two options would.

I dislike 3 because it puts us in a vulnerable position: people will be coming to us, and the only things we will know are what they choose to tell us, without much in the way of ability to verify. It seems like the best way of getting sucked into something that seems like a good idea from the info we have, but really isn't.

As a few others have said it does have the potential to backfire in that it makes us look arrogant and standoffish not to mention we might not get a contact we actually want out of it. Option 1 on the other hand could be seen as us playing favorites before the actual auction but we have a good smoke screen of wanting to follow up on the conversation we had in the letters we sent. Option 2 is just kinda meh in my opinion, not super risky but certainly isn't the easy win that option 1 is. The way I'm kind of seeing it is like this:

Option 1: Safe and good option, following up on recent actions and cementing a contact

Option 2: Chance to increase Luo and Golden Fields rep and contacts, not as safe as option 1 but could help secure more support from a count clan and other eastern region

Option 3: WHATS IN THE BOX! WHATS IN THE BOX! LETS ROLL THE DICE BABY! Most potential backlash as we may not be approached by anyone we want to actually approach us.

Personally, I'm feeling kind of like a gambling man right now and may go Option 3 but I'm not opposed to Option 1 either. Hmm...

Hrrrm.
I guess that's why we were warned not to mess with the roots. The Hui left their mark here.
...
As for this? I'm actually leaning towards 3.
So long as we don't do any sucker bets so to speak or let ourselves get baited by a sob story, this should be informative. Further research and asking questions I think should be permitted, even in Chinese culture...
I'm not 100% clear on how much I should be 1-to-1 ing this story with China but...

Something to consider here is our mailing list leans towards people with a sense of a unified Emerald Seas cultural identity. Actually makes a good deal 9f sense to see in a court clan, especially after their decline. But following up on that story thread makes a lot of sense in context of the auction, with all its ES cultural/artistic artifacts.

[ ] It's important to keep up with the biggest players. Make your way to the Luo attendee and chat a bit about history and current events, perhaps speaking to the Golden Fields as well about their own problems in the south.
Luo are another obvious avenue on tapping ES cultural sentiment, and a viewpoint that has had a little development but could be beneficial to do a deeper dive into. Some potential to file off some of the burs with Luo Zhong socialization, through broader context offering us fresh direction from step one of a potential future scene. But that's more of a stretch benefit than a reason to pick the option. Also, this would be our first real look at a different province's perspective on our southern project, and one that might (we don't actually know, this would be us finding out) have its own stake in the matter it could work towards. Maybe also news of the Gu/Xiulan.

Wildcard. Could be Western Territories, Celestial Peaks, a different Xiangmen local, someone else, or even the maybe-exists Zheng. If this option wins, @yrsillar should ask for a roll, but go on with his original plan regardless of the outcome. Just make us sweat. Maybe even announce a penalty to the roll for extra effect.

Abeo makes a good point about our contacts there. Given that trying to find people politically interested in our goals is what I'd mostly be interested in with 3, I think that I want to go with the court clan and further that arc here.

We really need to establish our ES political goals and alliances here. Get that arc properly moving and give it the development it needs to focus us.

I have to agree that the mystery box is too much of a mystery here. We built some Central Region network, now we can build some Xiangmen network. The Court Clans are a group that is somewhat lacking in identity right now but not lacking in ambition. If we can nudge the shape of their Renewal to better match Renxiang and ours visions of the Emerald Seas that'd be swell.

As we saw with the brief glimpse of Palace of One, the Emerald Seas Ducal no longer can rely simply on Wisdom (Bountiful Earth) nor Strength (Unity of Blades) to hold power. Now they also need to unite in Dream (Palace of One), and to that end will our group work.

We'll need Xiangmen network for a wide variety of reasons. Free chance to build it up, and keep a cohesive narrative throughline about the Art and Culture and pride in an Emerald Seas Identity? Seems good to me.
