Hogwarts Sect of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Also, note that she's constrained by several factors in what she's willing to approach, so nothing bigger than a particularly big housecat. How would she feed a basilisk, or clear up all of Aragog's cobwebs?
This sounds like cowardice talking! What sort of Xianxia protagonist are we without being bound to a Heavenly Beast? Give me my pointless wish fulfilment Karf!

More seriously I assume the option to maybe get super lucky and roll a Phoenix, Dragon, Xuanwu or something similar is the Non-mythical option?

Either way, I'm very down for having even a house cat partner. Our spirit will grow alongside us after all.

Your first foray into conjuration will appropriately be in the realm of painting. A set of gouache bottles you took with you after the winter break has largely remained untapped, and brushes are part of the stationary available to all disciples, so you have all the materials you need to work with. Coaxing the paint to appear in the hairs should be within your capabilities.

Every set of four different aspects in a row grants one extra die to that pool. The sets do not overlap.
I will point out that we haven't crafted this yet, so this'll be my vote for our second charm.
[][Breakthrough] Qi is beauty
Qi makes the world vibrant, a feast for all the senses to experience. Could there be a more noble calling than preserving even a small facet of its beauty to share with others? The artistry and elegance of a raven in flight, the sound of ice cracking on a lake, the grace of a friend lost in meditation - the allure is something you could lose yourself in without any regrets.
[][Breakthrough] Qi is wonder
The world is vast, and full of adventure and mystery that calls to you on a primal level. With Qi, there's awe in even the most mundane of places and tasks, and nothing could ever stop amazing you. From the motion of the very heavens themselves to the simple life of an insect under a rug, nothing is trivial to the mystic power.
[][Breakthrough] Qi is safety
You know that hardship is temporary, and time spent in toil means comfort later. It's an intrinsic promise between you and the energy of the world that your efforts are rewarded, and so long as you sense Qi, you won't shy away from any task, no matter how daunting.
Whilst Qi has helped keep Rei safe, I don't see her thinking of Qi like that at her core. She first wanted to go to Hogwarts because she felt there was more out there (and because of her mother, but that's irrelevant to how she sees Qi).

There is some overlap, but IMO beauty is what an artist can create, whereas wonder is what inspires an artist to create. I lean towards the latter but I wouldn't mind if the former wins.
[][Location] The lake and near it
Watery beings and things characterized by change.
[][Location] The infinite labyrinth of castle Hogwarts
Industrious, metallic Qi characterized by everyday usage to immortals.
[][Location] The sunny plains towards Hogsmeade
Fiery, temperamental go-getters characterized by the desire to act.
[][Location] The Forbidden Forest
Woodland critters and hermitic beings, characterized by a drive to create.
[][Location] The dungeons and caves carved into the cliff underneath Hogwarts
Earthen burrowers and things that stay in the dark, characterized by calm stability.
The way I see it, we either want a spirit that matches us (Forest and creation), or one that complements us (Labyrinth and everyday usage/industry, or Caves and calm stability).

I might be being unclear, but supposing we take an action to open meridians, and we get a total result of 491 (the same as this breakthrough). We'd open four meridians, right, not just one for one action, yes?
This is correct. Progress is saved and carries over, just like the usual subjects.

... Okay, I've worked out the error there, but you might want to specify that you're using radians, not degrees. I also need to wonder when I put my calculator in idiot mode.
Will add a note :D even if I (not so) secretly agree.

Legends tell of a once-in-a-millenium talent taming a phoenix in his fifth year. Others whisper of a second once-in-a-millenium youth forming a contract with a basilisk at the same age. Clearly, there can only be one once-in-a-millenium happenstance per millenium, so stories about basilisks are entirely unfounded lies.

Out of three great options, this is the best attitude to have, in my opinion, but we can't go wrong with this vote.

[X][Charm] The proto-bludger
Mobility and combat uses in one package, and arguably the best option, mechanics-wise. Makes a lot of sense from a narrative standpoint, as well.

Honestly while all of these can work Qi is Wonder makes the most sense as the reason Rei went to Hogwarts involved learning about her mother through doing what she did, and make sense given her thoughts when she first set eyes on the place. Furthermore she had fun on her first adventure, and

That being said safety has some interesting character ticks, and I'd speculate might have some resonance with the parts of the world that Irene has influenced in her passing. Because love in Harry Potter is a powerful magic, and I imagine even a few lingering specks of Qi will move mountains if that is what is needed to safeguard that whom is loved.

[][Mythical] Yes

Nargles and wrackspurts, will-o-wisps and fairies, living coal and gnomes - decidedly weird and strange beings. Things that lack a physical form altogether, or aren't flesh and blood, that might walk and talk even without the intervention of Qi. Although not yet, for example a troll or a fire elemental would be in this category

[][Mythical] No

Cats and rats and toads and owls - a beastly bent. Note that a housecat and a cat with Qi are still two very different beings, so you'll still get more than a common pet. Although not an option at this stage, for example a unicorn or a gryphon would also fall in this category.
I'm inclined toward Mythical as a fae would serve Rei for being a source of inspiration to make wonders.

For a more physical companion the obvious choice would be a Raven as they can fly, are very intelligent, and are often know as tricksters something that would go well with Rei using sleight of hand.

For Fae the obvious option would be either the Forbidden Forest, or the sunny plains. For a Raven they're found near civilization so Hogsmeade would make sense, or I suppose a Forest would as well for that matter.

Do charms count for the meridian system as well, then, @Karf ? And they go in the same priority list as techniques, not one of their own?
Yes to both. You'll find that the first time you go for the opening, Rei's meridian count will most likely explode to a point where you won't have anything to do with all of them. That said, although I haven't gone over it in detail, I suspect you'd want to modify the pool first, so charms should come first.

Whilst Mythical includes incorporeal creatures, it's not just made up of them. If people want something they can hold we can still find one here.

A Nargle would be cool! Most people can't see them, they cause wooly thoughts, which would help in a fight, and then the best reason: Luna!

Edit: I'm thinking of wrackspurts, obviously. Nargles are the thieves. Also potentially useful.

A spirit beast is either a spirit in truth, think wisps or fairies or the Grim Reaper on the high end, or Qi sensitive forms of animals, from rats, cats and toads to dragons and phoenixes.
Emphasis mine. I wonder how much truth there is in the tale of the three brothers…

As per your edit. That second line of "roll 99-200" doesn't happen. In more mathematical notation: if x1 = [50, 100] then x2 = [x1, 200-x1], use x2.
Do modified rolls of over a hundred count as Nat 100s for the purpose of generating extra meridians? Or is this a case of 'try it and find out'?

I'd say try it, but it's not like you can try any harder. For consistency, extras are generated when you roll within 1% of a given maximum, once every mod has applied and the dust has settled.

I think change locks us in less than creation, and it's good for our current state of being, which is undergoing fairly massive changes.
