Malfeir Quest

I don't think it's a good idea to leave multiple hostages with him.

Should probably warn him that the guard saw us on the way out and if the kid doesn't return by midnight they'll alert the parents. He can keep Clicker, but the rest should come with us.

It is an idea for the Negotiate vote. I am looking for feedback before I make it into a vote.

My goal is to get Opal out of here.

Well that puts a damper on opals Pre birthday present but Nervels right we can try and Negotiate this.
[X] Try to negotiate
-[X] Meantion how the Guards saw us leave town and will be suspicious if any of us are missing, Mention the big event happening soon and Offer to leave Rations at a neutral place during the Event. If hes really desperate for a horse offer to leave the location of the stables with the rations

This gives info, turns down the plan and offers a alternative Plus a missing Horse is way more obvious than missing food. He has Most(all) of the power if he pushes the issue we don't have a lot of wiggle room.

I agree on negotiating, but I think this write-in is a little bit too bold. We have no leverage at all, except the leverage we can gain with our persuasion.

I believe getting Tiana and Opal away is at least reasonable.
I made a write-in, but if I don't see any support for it, or a better vote shows up, I'm liable to change it yet.

[X] Try to negotiate
-[X] Mention how the Guards saw us leave town and will be suspicious the more of us are missing. Explain that it is to both our benefits to remove Tiana and Opal from the situation, for they are additional variables, they must be prevented from escape and require attention, they may be noticed as missing by someone randomly. Honestly agree to get the horse and rations.

Edit: btw, sorry if I missed this earlier, @SyRikka but can we slot skills now? should we already have? are there skills like performance or persuasion already slotted by default?

Skills are semi- already slotted, with d20 rolls and the appropriate modifiers added when rolls are made. However, with the Learning Curve you can practice certain skills to gain proficiency, then advantage with them.

I can create and add a character sheet to the Informational threadmarks, if that would help?

The Learning Curve system is very simple. Each character has four available 'slots' in which they can 'put' skills, abilities, or spells to learn them. All four may be filled with non-magical abilities or skills, but only two may be taken by spells at any given time.

I was referring to this part of the informational post. I guess when you said the character would "put" the skills into the slots, you didn't mean players could decide which abilities, skills or spells to apply the Learning Curve to, but that the character would decide based on what the character would put time and effort into. Did I understand correctly?

These all sound like kind of shitty options but I guess I'll just go for trying to live.

[X] Negotiate
- [X] mention the guards saw us leave and will be suspicious if only one of us returns
-- [X] Go towards the town and get the stuff, but let the guards know what's happening. Try and get them to form a perimeter, so once he runs off he'll find himself surrounded, and you'll have time to flee

Oh! My apologies! I misunderstood!
So, it's a bit of both, the players can and will decide what to apply the learning curve to, as long as you can come up with a reasonable idea that would spark the character's interest in that thing. So by applying the learning curve to something, that dictates what the character puts time and effort into.

While I think negotiating with the Lizardman is a smart thing to do I don't think we should try and raise the alarm at this point he has our friends hostages and can easily kill our friends before he gets captured, plus while I don't know how many guards are available but it would be pretty suspicious for traffic out of the city to increase after he sends us in.

No the idea is we go tell the guards and get them to form a perimeter out of sight. We give him the horse and the rations and he runs off, we immediately sprint for our lives while the guard encirclement closes in on the lizardman. Honestly all we need is a couple good archers and to wait for him to run away once we give him the stuff

He went for Opal in the first place. She is a more convenient hostage, small, easy to move, and having control over her also means having control over her sister. Teenagers are dumb and prone to unnecessary risks (case in point); meanwhile few will dare to endanger a 8 year old. He'd likely prefer swapping a teenage boy for someone who can not break out and run at the first opportunity; it isn't to his benefit to remove the most vulnerable link unless we provide some additional incentive.

Meantion how the Guards saw us leave town and will be suspicious if any of us are missing, Mention the big event happening soon and Offer to leave Rations at a neutral place during the Event.
Well, he isn't going to believe us we'll do our part out of the goodness of our heart, and he is probably right. He needs to keep someone as an assurance that we'll get what he wants. Should we imply the guards will be suspicious if any of us are missing, he'll just keep all of us and negotiate with anyone who will come looking.

[X] Try to negotiate
-[X] Mention how the guards saw the girls leave town and will alert the parents if the kid doesn't return by the end of their shift. We'll get him what he wants, but he'll have to let the two of them go.

well, I guess I'll change my vote in order to get a majority. Nevill's vote seems pretty close to mine, so I'll go for that.

"Okay." You say, taking a deep, shuddering breath. "Okay. I'll get you the horse and rations, but the girls can't stay. The gate guard saw us coming out, and if we aren't back by the moonset for the shift change, they'll tell their parents and come out looking for us. That'd be bad for you, right? So just… let me take them back with me, okay? They won't say anything, I swear."

Yellow eyes narrow at you, then flick toward Tiana and Opal, calculating.

Persuasion Roll: 5+2=7
"No." His voice is a soft rasp. Almost like a knife against a whetstone. "No, these three'll stay here with me. You'll just have to hurry. Or come up with something to tell the guard. I'm sure you're smart enough to figure something out."

"You—!" Opal bursts out, a bit tearfully, "You jerk! You're just a big bully! I bet you wouldn't be so tough without your knife, huh? You better let Clicker go! His dad's the captain of the city guard, and if you hurt him you'll— mmmph!"

Tiana's hands clamp down around Opal's muzzle, but the damage is already done, and your blood runs cold as you see the lizardfolk's yellow eyes turn consideringly down toward Clicker, who gulps softly.
"The Captain's kid, huh?" He says thoughtfully, and you wince as the knife digs harder into Clicker's scales, drawing a bead of blood. "Your daddy's been a pain in my ass for years now. How… fortunate."

Clicker gulps softly, his eyes flicking between you and Tiana and Opal, though he says nothing.

"It's not," Tiana says recklessly, and you can see her shaking as she forces Opal to keep quiet. "It's really not. There's a delegation from Silsharn arriving tomorrow. All the guards are on high alert. Do you really want to deal with the entire weight of the City's guard coming down on you? Hunting you just for one kid? That's stupid, and you're not stupid, right? You're from the group earlier today, right?"

"That's right," he nods, looking displeased, and Tiana barrels on.

"So take me instead. Clicker can get anything past the guards. They all know him, and he can get you a horse easy enough. Let Opal and Sil go with him, and I swear I won't try anything."

Persuasion Roll: 9+0=9

The lizardfolk's eyes narrow irritably, and his voice is a low hiss. "Or how about I just keep you, your sister, and your friend right here with me. I like that plan better."

[] "Take me instead. I'm worth more than Clicker, if it's money you want. My mom's the main diplomat here. She can pay you whatever you want to get me back."

[] "Take me instead. I'm way less important than either of those two, and nobody'll miss me enough to send out a search party. Clicker can tell the guards that I decided to stay out for a while longer, and no one will bat an eye as long as the girls get home safe."

[] Tell Tiana to shut up and rush to gather the materials the lizardfolk has demanded. (You will have about forty minutes to do so before the guard shift changes.)

[] Something Else (Write In)

[x] Tell him that he is making things too complicated. You can't sneak a week's worth of food and a goddamn horse past the guards without arousing suspicion. If at any point something goes wrong, it will go wrong for everyone. You have a better idea. Your mother is the main diplomat here, and you were chosen to greet the foreign delegation tomorrow. He should be taking you instead and let the girls go grab your mother, since she has a much better chance to get him what he needs before the guards get antsy and decide to act on their own. No one wants a diplomatic incident. so they'll just pay him off to get him out of their hair.

The problem is to convince him that it may be in his interests to get the right adults involved. He wants to be sneaky, but that raises more complications than it tries to avoid. Too many points of failure + panicked kid =/= a recipe for success.

In for a penny, in for a pound? we're sure giving him a lot of leverage this way, and i really don't like that. He might just decide that we're collectively too hot to handle and just decide to kill us all off. But I don't see any remaining good options, to be honest. Let's hope he really wants that horse...

Guys hes the left over from the battle that happened outside our city yesterday he has no desire to get involved with the Authority who just got his friends killed its why he was waiting in the middle of the forest for rando's to come by because he doesn't want a spotlight on himself more people means he has less control of the situation. He Needs a hostage to have any sort of leverage lets take our friends place and let Clicker get his stuff.

Mmm, I dunno. I can see your point, but he also likes having additional assurances that multiple hostages provide, even though it increases the risk of discovery. Having "nobody important" as a hostage risks the guards deciding to force the issue since if things go sideways it'd be a shame, but no great loss. In that regard having the captain of the guard's kid is a lot more secure.

Essentially there are two paths, to downplay our importance and have him count on that we are important enough to Clicker and the girls and that's why they won't blab, or to play it up and have him escalate his demands to the authorities since he has the leverage and the situation favors him. The question is, does the man put more stock in friendship as a motivation than in a good honest blackmail?

While there are 2 paths im currently hesitant to push him towards negotiations because he seems like a low rank soldier who wants to get out of here ASAP.
He doesn't seem like a general or a commander so trying to get him in contact with someone high ranking on our side does nothing but set him up for execution. I don't know how much stock he puts in friendship but he knows enough about relationships that anyone who would come out here together at night are close enough to not want each other to die and for a lizard who just wants to escape that's enough.
