Hogwarts Sect of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Opinions in no particular order:

-We are 171 points away from the next spiritual realm and stage, which is part of our goal. That's great! We'll be rolling 6d20 next turn, which is fantastic as well. I'd rather not invest actions in History for now, then, see if we can get the final milestone through Boons and stuff. We have many months before the deadline, anyway, so waiting won't hurt, from that point of view.

-If the switch to d110 is permanent, that's by far the best boon of the three, and it's not even close, which makes me doubt the possibility. If it's not, that's around 35 points of progress, since we're currently at an average of slightly more than 7 successes. A level in Charm, though temporary, would take that average to a bit over 8, so 50 points of progress or so. 2d100 is better than that (being, to continue rounding numbers, around 100 points), but it's for a subject we can't train in right now, so if we fail to get the milestone, we'd have to rely on future boons to offer something similar.

-I don't think we should use our extra action on a social option, rather than more training. At least not yet.

-Pretty sure the bag of holding has not come up at all, so far.

-We currently have 5 sect points, and like it has been mentioned or hinted at multiple times, and very clearly in this last update, snowballing is absolutely massive, which is a great incentive to use them. Also, it would be good to know what 2+ points on the same action do. Let's say that 1 point equals about 1d100 of progress. Wouldn't you like to know, earlier rather than later, if 2 points were closer to 4d100, so to take better advantage of that?

Honestly if we get to Late Qi Gathering I'd rather put two actions each into these classes. The Transfiguration bonus alone would be a big help, and there's probably benefits to doing some of these classes before breaking through.
It's a good idea. Gonna plan for four Charms actions next turn tho. Focusing on one class a month seems good for points.

Seriously why the interest in getting a familiar?
I can't help but feel we need to use a lot of social on it to increase bonding level and pay for its upkeep as looking after it would have costs attached to it.
There's so many interesting people Rei could interact with and activities to join.

[X] Plan: Befriending
-[X][Boon] A wet candle
-[X][Training] Transfiguration (x4)
-[X][Social] The only Ravenclaw you haven't properly met yet is Sue Li, and you're determined to fix that. Track her down and gain some insight into the mystery that is Sue.
-[X][Social] You're invited for tea with Lavender Brown - she says it'll be a small gathering, but that it should be fun.
-[X][Social] Tracey Davis offered to be your friend... or was it the other way around? Regardless, you wouldn't mind another lesson on immortal customs, and her straightforward manner can be refreshing.

Really want to befriend Sue Li, Lavender is quirky to interact with and got to lock in Tracey, so let's get those friendship lock in!

My main concern is that I want to get every class to at least Basic before breaking through, and considering they all help with cultivation in some way we want to do them first, and I don't want to spend 1 month on each class? I have a vague plan in mind of doing 3 actions on each of Transfiguration, Charms, Herbology and Potions over the next 3 months, after which we can do a month of Physical cultivation.

Edit: 6d20 DC15 done 3 times gives us 5 successes on average, and 5d100 (avg of 252) should still pretty confidently allow us to get Basic level.
I'm aware there's the points to consider, but time isn't infinite either, and this update showed we can get points for general progress as well.

Edit2: Swapped Su Li for Mandy, and put the points there instead.

Fair. Tho I've got my own plans to level up Transfiguration and Charms as our Apprentice classes (since their bonuses aren't just lowering thresholds for a different class) and doing one action each of the other three the month after next.

Also I swapped out the Tracy social in my plan for a fourth Transfiguration action.

Hi, I edited the plan right after posting to change the boon from wet candle to galleon. Do you mind changing as well, or if you don't want the galleon can you change the plan name?

Shouldn't we try to get apprentice in two of the main subjects before getting basic in the others:

The goals are more abstract. By the start of your second year of seven, you would need to reach the Qi Condensation stage of cultivation - the second stage, which makes a certain amount of sense. You're also expected to reach apprentice level in at least two of the five other subjects: herbology, potions, charms, transfiguration and astronomy.

"Your peers can often be a source of inspiration or aid, and you'll find that unless you're truly blessed by the heavens, you'll need to specialize to meet the exam requirements.

Sure we can bring the other subjects up to basic before breaking through, but we should be pretty close to breaking through in physical cultivation as well before we do that.
We need to score 2359 on training rolls to pass the exam. Assuming we get ~300 each month (not counting transfig bonus and eventual increase in die pool due to charms) we'd get 2700 between dec-aug. Getting basic for three of the subjects we don't get apprentice in will be 450 of those points, so we're cutting it close if we don't get the transfig/charm bonuses as soon as possible.

I had missed that 'two to Apprentice' requirement, but I still stand by my plan (though I've swapped the Sue Li social for Mandy/familiars).

I want to get everything to Basic before we breakthrough, but I also want to get Herbology and Potions to Basic before we do our next big month for Physical cultivation, which necessitates a tighter timeframe than is being suggested. I'd settle for getting Transfig and Charms to just Basic, then hold off on Apprentice until after we've got Herbology/Potions to Basic and hit Late Physical for the 5th action.
That 5th action is what I think our next main goal should be.

@Karf how many more months after this do we have for the 2nd year deadline?

I kinda got lost in the mechanical bits, as per usual, but I wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for the update itself.

The training scene, in which we advanced our understanding of Qi and the world, is my absolute favorite of this quest so far. It managed to capture very well the sense of wonder that such a revelation should bring, hints of the still-long path up ahead included.

I also loved the Dumble-err... I mean Santa cameo, and the scenes with Tracey and Daphne were both informative and intriguing.

So thanks, @Karf !

@Karf how many more months after this do we have for the 2nd year deadline?
January-February-March-April-May-June for the best-case scenario. So 6 months to go, but it's not quite over if Rei doesn't make it then.

July and August can be used to catch up, but it'll get harder without the Qi rich environment and resources available at Hogwarts.

That said, I'm more confident than ever that you won't need those two extra months, and Rei can rest easy, pursuing her hobbies or... uh, spoilers.

Yeah, after this last update, there's no way in hell we don't make the goals, unless we manage our turns/actions terribly. Just go for Transfiguration, then Charms, then Defense (physical) and we won't have anything to worry about. All other subjects are not needed, and less optimal than the two skills.

I'd leave Defense for last because, HP increases aside, its next benefit is 688 points away. And sure, that benefit is an extra action (flexibility and/or an additional 6/7d20), but the other skills have lower-points milestones (150 and 200) that it just makes sense to knock them down first.

@Karf , did our dad ever reply to the letter we sent him in November? Also, is it safe to assume that going home for Christmas will not affect our training, unlike going home for the summer will?

This is a solid plan given its highly beneficial for us to focus right now - 4 actions on Transfiguration this turn, then 4 on charms next turn. @Karf - will any bonuses we get from lvljng Transfiguration apply to the d100 rolls for CoMC?

For the socials getting to know our roommates better makes a great deal of sense, as does heading home. I've always felt its strange that kids would spend their holidays at school, rather than going home to see their family/friends for the first time in 4 months. We can also get more information on the Greengrass situation which furthers that plot along nicely.

An alternative with different socials, mostly for those who don't want to go for pets yet. Progress in Care of Magical Creatures is going to be difficult to get in the near future, since there won't be a training option for it for quite a while (possibly third year), and for all we know, it might even not count for the awarding of sect points.

So this plan picks the Boon that most benefits the Training actions we do get right now, for a higher chance of winning points for Transfiguration and overall.

[X] Plan More Transfiguration
-[X][Boon] An inky bottle
-[X][Training] Transfiguration x4
-[X][Social] You're invited for tea with Lavender Brown - she says it'll be a small gathering, but that it should be fun.
-[X][Social] Terry has heard that you know the secret to accessing the kitchen. He's promised you cookies if you take him and another of his fellow chefs to it, with implications of more bounties if you help them out further.
--[X] Use 2 points
-[X][Social] Given how often magical portraits seem to come up in your brief time at Hogwarts, perhaps you should learn more about them. A tiny part of your mind also whispers that it would be cool to bring your doodles to life.

For the socials:
-the last scene with Lavender was fantastic, and the prospect of more Divination-related shenanigans excites me.
-while we've been told about the kitchen, we have yet to actually visit. Also the option promises bounties on top of cookies, which sounds useful coming from an aspiring Celestial Chef, if we help further, hence the points.
-I won't give up on the dream of becoming a magical artist quite yet.

He did, but the life of a salaried clerk is a bit less interesting than wizard hijinx.

They will not.

@BlackCoat13 your plan has 1 too many actions and if you don't mind, could you edit it to have dashes in front of every [X] other than the top line? That way the tally picks up the whole thing at once, rather than spitting out each line.
