"
...The Headmaster of Hope's Peak, my own father, is likely controlled by a Yeerk, hard as it is for me to admit. If Fukawa and Yamada have been captured and taken anywhere, chances are they're inside our school" I strained to voice those words.
Leon, throwing any respect to the wind, burst into laughter and said, "Typical, knew getting into this damn school was too good to be true. 'You're the best students ever and the hope of the nation', bullshit, the freakin' Principal's an alien puppet".
Yet I still preferred that reaction to Byakuya's, who narrowed his gaze and bent down to look into my ear, before he said, "If you expect me to take your word that your own father is Yeerk-enslaved, then how am I supposed to trust you aren't one too?".

"Yeah, um, sorry for ganging up on you like this, Kyoko, but from the sound of it, you can't tell a Yeerk Controller and a regular person just from looking at 'em" Aoi reluctantly chimed in.
I tensed, but quickly countered their suspicions with, "Elfangor wouldn't have let us anywhere near the Escafil Device if he knew there were Yeerks among us".
"Yeah, plus he was a war veteran against the Yeerks, right? Wouldn't be a stretch for the guy to have had advanced Yeerk-finding tech, I mean, he could travel through space and all" Junko argued as she stepped in.
"Huh, expected that you two would put so much faith in this Elfangor. Infallible he was not, he wouldn't currently be Yeerk-food otherwise" Byakuya snarled and crossed his arms.
"Also, dear Kirigiri, I must say you're already quite suspicious yourself, even before you told us your father's with the Yeerks," Celestia said those words while smiling, "You're one of the few students at a school all about Talent to not reveal yours, and my my, why could that be? SHSL Nepotism Beneficiary, perhaps?".
I had to mentally withhold myself, hearing this girl who didn't even go by her real name say that to me. "My Talent has been kept private for confidential reasons, it is mine and the faculty's concern, not yours, Ludenberg".
Byakuya let out a chuckle at my words. "So you are saying that you have a secret arrangement going on with the school board, at a school that may already be Yeerk infested. You're clearly no Super High School Debater, whatever you are" he said.
"Hey, Kyoko probably didn't know a thing about Yeerks or Andalites or whatever when she chose to hide her Talent," Junko spoke up for me again, "And 'sides, you wanna actually do something 'bout all the Yeerk guys, or do you wanna just waste time around here arguing?".
"Determining whether one of us is an alien infiltrator is hardly 'wasting time'," Byakuya huffed, "Furthermore, even assuming Elfangor was correct in there being no Yeerks controlling us, that doesn't rule out Kyoko becoming infested by one on the way here. It could even explain how she knew her father was with the Yeerks".
"Um yeah, I call bull on that," Junko said and crossed her arms, "I was with Kyoko the whole way here, no aliens or whatever got anywhere near her brain. Well, except those freaky blade-monsters, but like any of those guys could slither inside someone's brain".
"Hey, that could just mean you got Yeerk'd on the way here too, for all we know" Leon butted in.
Junko gritted her teeth, but then turned to Celestia, "Hey Celes, you saw how I morphed into your cat, right?".
"Why yes, and without my prior consultation, I. Might. Add" Celestia snarled at that topic being brought back up.
"Listen, you think your cat would ever let us touch him if we were Yeerk puppets?" Junko's point came across. I myself tend to avoid any emotional appeals, but I could see what Junko was going for.
"...What do you mean by 'us'?" Celestia's expression grew worse.
"Seriously? A cat of all things is meant to determine whether or not you are now Yeerks?" Byakuya sighed, but was then approached by a fuming Celestia.
"Do you dare badmouth my Grand Bois Cheri, is
that what I'm hearing?" she hissed at him.
I took a deep breath as I was about to bring up another point, a point that could shift the subject back away from Celestia's cat, of all things. "Listen, by no means am I on close terms with my father. While he dedicated himself to Hope's Peak, he left me alone with my grandfather. Collaborators with him I am not" I told them probably what I should've said from the start.
Byakuya groaned, but said, "Fine, I'll take you on your word, for now, I've likely missed the entrance ceremony already thanks to you lot. But don't think I'll be letting my guard down". He then stomped off into the school.
"Well hey, um, if Touko and Hifumi are still missing, us trying to find them should come first. Like, being Hope's Peak students makes us pretty well-known throughout all of Japan, so do we really need to tell everyone our talents at the ceremony when they know them already?" it was Aoi who made the remark.
Though she meant well, I could've frozen hearing those words. "Yes, all of Japan... knows who we are..." I was left mumbling.
"Great, our identities being plastered everywhere gives the Yeerks an instant lead on us! Ugh, why did that 'El-fang-or' guy think entrusting us with stopping this invasion or whatever was at all a good idea?" Leon snarled.
"Hey, the guy had been shot down and was dying, like, I doubt you'd do any better if you were in his situation," Junko told him, but sighed as she admitted, "Still, you've gotta point. like, I wouldn't know the first thing about guerrilla warfare, um, which I think is kinda what you could compare all this to, what with Elfangor. I can definitely see how our identities being
this famous could totally screw us all over".
"Let's just get inside," I put bluntly, before this argument could continue, "We shouldn't leave Fukawa and Yamada hanging".
My father believed in Hope's Peak as a school for the best of the best, an academy for the most talented students in their fields, who'd shape Japan's if not the world's future. He'd neglected to add back then who'd that future would be shaped
for, his Yeerk friends.
Walking down the corridors of Hope's Peak that day was an experience like never before for me... but not in the way the school advertised. It dawned on me that I had no way of telling whether any student or teacher I passed in the halls was fully human anymore, that any schoolkid at their locker or a teacher gathering notes could be an alien invader for all I knew. Various incidents in the past had made me suspicious of certain people before, but never just... anyone.
One student that particularly stood out to me was the pompadour-sporting, trenchcoated Owada Mondo, the Super High-School Level Biker Gang Leader, as he was currently being reprimanded by none other than my own father.
"I expect to see you in my office, Owada, given your behaviour as of late," my father told him vaguely, before... he had to turn around and look at me, "You two, Kyoko, I expected better of you on your first day at your own family's Academy".
"Tch, fine, whatever fuckface," Mondo snarled at my father, before he glanced in my direction and had to smirk. "Aw how cute, Headmaster's daughter thinks being late is enough to qualify her as a rebel" he had to mock me.
I gritted my teeth, but did ask my father, "I was late with a group of others, so I'd like to inquire why you are singling me out among them?".
He sighed, then said, "Those who missed the entrance ceremony will be questioned in due time. But Kyoko, you all of students should know better, hence why I'd like to speak to you personally".
Mondo's own 'rebel' credentials were immediately called into question when he still followed my father back to his office, all the way up on the fourth floor. "Kyoko, wait outside until I'm done with this young man" my father looked down and instructed me to sit.
Normally someone like Owada Mondo would launch into a stream of profanities upon being reprimanded like this... but that wasn't what I could make out at all. Already suspicious, I thought to morph cat again as there was nobody outside the Headmaster's office right now. Just to be safe however, I tested out if I could concentrate my morphing to just my ears, and while it took some time to get my morphing centred on them, I did feel my lobes changing to be furry and pointed.
My father's conversation with Mondo was far less muffled now, an while it was definitely Mondo's voice I was hearing, his tone now sounded entirely out of character for him.
"-Agreed, then the scheduled return to the Pool tonight shall proceed as normal?" he asked my father in a monotone voice, with me doubting he meant the regular school pool.
"Yes, while capturing any Andalites who may have arrived on Earth remains our priority, we can not risk showing them any weakness. The regeneration must go on," my father, or rather his controlled vocal chords, said more stilted than usual, "I shall entrust you to wrangle any Hork-Bajir in-between reinfestation, your host's strength may come in handy for that".
"Provided I don't snag this vessel's skin on any of their blades" came Mondo's Controller's attempt at a joke. From context, I took it the Hork-Bajir were those bladed, lizard-like foot-soldiers in Visser Three's retinue.
"Ah, Kirigiri Kyoko, there you are" a voice said out to me, as I turned and saw Kiyotaka had approached, "Called to the Headmaster's Office already, I see? Suppose that'll teach you to miss our opening ceremony, hmm?".
I could've spat out. "Ishimaru, you know all too well why I'm late.
Aliens have already invaded Earth, and you saw the being who gave you shapeshifting powers get eaten alive before you, yet 'being late' is your biggest concern?" I hissed at him.
"Well, um, still, no reason to flaunt school rules," Kiyotaka tried to come back with, "Also, um, you're aware you happen to have cat ears now, right? A-Anyway, did the others make it back safe? I'm afraid Miss Maizono's still terribly shaken about this whole experience".
"Yeah, everyone except Fukawa and Yamada have made it back," I told him, before I also brought up, "By the way, you know about Owada Mondo, right?".
"That Biker Gang Leader, the very student being knocked sense into right now? Yes, I'm afraid I'm all too familiar with that brute's name" Kiyotaka said.
"Well he's currently controlled by a Yeerk" I told him flat out.
The normally resolute Kyotaka twitched on hearing that, "Oh, how unfortunate. As little as I approve of Mr. Owada, I-I certainly wouldn't have wished that fate upon him. You don't think..." he gasped, "That Headmaster Kirigiri's at risk of being infested right now?".
"...I'm afraid he's long been," I forced myself to say that. I had no idea how to break that news to Kiyotaka, hell I was still processing it, so I decided to get to the point. "Not just our Headmaster, my father... slave to a Yeerk".
"What? No, impossible, that can't be true!" Kiyotaka exclaimed, so loud I was worried he'd alert the Yeerks in the other room, but he then had to ask, "Wait, ahem, the Headmaster is your father?".
"Well yeah, how many other Kirigiris do you know?" I stared at him.
"Ah, I'm sorry, it's just I didn't wish to assume, that was all" Kiyotaka said.
I had to sigh at that, all while this talk of 'Yeerk Pools' and 'regeneration' threw new complications on everything.
[ ] Finding wherever, or whatever, this Yeerk Pool is should be my priority. There's ten of us, so I can send others to find Touko and Hifumi.
[ ] My mission of finding Hifumi and Touko hasn't changed, I'll just send some others to try finding this Yeerk Pool.
[ ] I'm not much of a people person, but I should go see Sayaka and how she's handling all of this.
[ ] It's likely where Touko and Hifumi are and where the Yeerk Pool is are one and the same.
[ ] Before anything, we need to stock up on Morphs. It's possible Byakuya or Celeste, with their fortunes, might be able to find us some rare animals.
[ ] Write-in.
