We need the steel! For the Motherland!

And we do a good deed (taking in orphans) and we benefit ourselves from it (increasing our manpool in the future), what a deal!

If we're plying our alchemical knowledge towards producing base metals then it'd make sense to begin building ties with skilled craftsmen. It could open up new possibilities for advance machinery and metallurgy that might not even occur to us. I'd expect a Tradesman to be the sort who would look at the knowledge we have on hand and realize how it might be used in an economic and industrial fashion. Having someone that could do that could earn us a lot of money.

I do like that we're going into alchemy. I like it since it's a fairly 'scientific' branch of magic.

Ah, but there's no diversity in ideals as opposed to the open mind of children
The "open minds" of children are a draw precisely because they are going to be filled by things we put in there.

The main benefit of taking that option is having a pool of fanatically loyal and malleable followers... that could probably be used to infiltrate the lower rungs of society.

Also, we can always eat/experiment on the orphans if they proved to be annoying and/or get rid of them without much issue (yup, its dark but i've read how some russian nobles hunt people for sport before the Revolution, though lets not forget the Cannibal island that Stalin made to "clean up" the streets of moscow.)

So steel, huh? Works for me, and further research into the subject will likely open all kinds of paths in the future. On recruitring side of things, leaning towards just filling our ranks for now. Broadening our support base can come later.

Okay, voting seems to be going well… I'd say six more hours on the clock? Seems about right.

Alrighty then, the time is night, but I haven't had a shower or eaten anything, so... one hour on the clock.

That's your courtesy warning and the tally above hasn't changed enough for me to generate another one.

Voting has one hour remaining!

Well, that's interesting! Didn't really see Orphans pulling out a win as an option, but I suppose votes can surprise even the QM now and again.

Truth be told, going so hard after steel was a bit unexpected as well, though not totally out of left field.

Well, next update will be something special since you decided to pursue that choice in particular.

Specifically, Elizabeth's death looms large and Peter III's ascension is upcoming.

The question becomes... do you want to divert the course of history?

If we picked predictions, will we have knowledge of Elizabeth's exact time of death and did something about it to gain more power and influence?

You'd have strong hints that would point you towards the possibility of her death soon, yes, and would potentially allow you to get in league with Catherine pre-coup.

Now there will be a different choice. Specifically, whether or not you'll give Peter III the keys to your reverse-engineered alchemical process when he comes knocking.

They'll probably be calling it Ivanized Steel given the origin in this timeline, though.
